Nico's strong side was consistency. People say that he won with less poles and wins - yes he did. Some win due to talent, some due to hard work and some luck. His father Keke had only 5 wins in his career and still he was World Champion due to consistent driving.
Rosberg was genuinely talented. Just because Hamilton, one of the fastest drivers ever, had a little edge over him, doesn't mean Rosberg wasn't super fast. It's not black and white, most drivers would be a handful of tenths per lap off Hamilton and they wouldn't even give him a challenge.
Rosberg was really consistent in 2016.Even though Hamilton had bad reliability and luck,it was Rosberg who capitalised on opportunities unlike Vettel in 2018.

I always smile at the radio exchange between Nico Rosberg and his wife at the end of the race. Nico had pushed himself to new boundaries in 2016 and he got what he had always wanted, the championship. Hearing him and his wife share the joy was so emotional because Nico is a really nice guy.

Vettel actually shielded Rosberg from Verstappen who we know at that time would not have thought for a second before diving down the inside or outside of Rosberg taking them both out.
This should be obvious to everyone because, at that time, Vettel was the only 4xWDC on the grid and helping Hamilton become a 4xWDC as well would have meant that Vettel no longer had bragging rights as the then current most successful driver on the grid. Vettel clearly had zero intention of helping Hamilton join him as a 4xWDC at Abu Dhabi 2016.

Yea Lewis is a great driver and i do agree he is one of the best drivers, but personally if u ask me my answer would be Alonso. He consistently outperforms his car and teammate. But you can relate for Nico lil bit because he had to climb his way to his championship(not saying Lewis didnt, but lewis has a lil bit easier with most of his career in the best car)
Quinkos Vaine Alonso and Hamilton are magnificent, but the only time you can properly compare the two was when they were teammates, getting the same points, but in Hamilton's first season. I know the team favoured Hamilton, but Alonso played dirty tricks, like that of Hungary and the pitstop scinario. Alonso is certainly more aggressive and better to watch, but Hamilton I would say is faster and overall better, but it pisses me off when he has his down times, like so far this season.
I got the impression the other day that Rosberg admitted he wasn't quite as talented as Hamilton and that trying to beat him was super frustrating. But that just commands even more admiration and respect for the fact that he made it. At least from me. The fact that he could pull himself together with enough discipline to beat one of the best ever, and someone who he himself thought was more naturally talented than him. (Even though it was with a little luck, but so had Hamilton in 2008 for example). It's insanely impressive, and a huge inspiration to anyone. As one gets older, one recognizes that hard work and discipline is much more impressive and admirable than natural talent.
Watching this, I don't know how anyone can't be happy for Nico. Shame Lewis fan boys had to completely degrade him and saltily call him the "worst champion ever"

Going back to watch this after a few years really stokes the memories of that fantastic battle between Lewis and Nico. I was sooo happy for Nico; he fought hard to win that title and to be honest with you, I wasn't that surprised when he "retired" from F1. I would have too! That season was exhausting for me as a fan, I can only imagine how he felt! Pure joy at the end!
We're here 5 years later and there's a chance this could happen with Max and Lewis. The only difference, Lewis' engineer won't need to tell him to speed up if he's leading, he'd do it all on his own..

So i dont think hes saying that Mercedes helped Rosberg to a title, i think Hamilton meant that he still was the best driver out of the 2 if he won that race with all the pressure on Both drivers. I do still think its strange to see Hamilton have problems with the engine as the only Mercedes powered car in the field, whereas the german driver in the german car had none, which coincidentally would be very good for the team marketing wise.
