Mike, there aren't enough words to express how grateful I am that you put so much effort into teaching Cakewalk by Bandlab. Unfortunately, I'd been dragging my feet for years about buying recording equipment and choosing a DAW. After picking Cakewalk about a year ago, I finally stumbled on to your channel and it's been nothing short of a blessing. I'm only sad that they're going to discontinue it. I'm learning more and more all the time and don't want to switch to another product. I think they've done a bang up job with Cakewalk and I'm thankful that you're helping to support those of us who don't want to jump ship. Thank you!!!!
man....there not discontinuing it.......sonar is exactly the same as cakewalk but with more stuff.........i bought the previous version of sonar in 2017 before it was bought by bandlab......so my version of cakewalk by bandlab is actually sonar cause it loads up all the pluggins and features from both versions on my computer......yes mike is, a god sent legend....i too have continued to learn about production etc etc because of mikes videos.....and no other software on the market has a guy like mike giving free tuition so extensivly ......its a no brainer!!!!
Have been using Sonar, then Cakewalk for many years and Mike's guidance and expertise have been invaluable- clear, concise, patient and always engaging. Thank you. I can understand some of the concerns expressed here about how convoluted the reactivation process might seem, but folks need to remember that this has been a FREE product which is capable of some very professional functionality, for which we should be grateful.
@@CraigHatmakerBXL I've bought several versions of Cakewalk through the last 20+ years, each of which cost me several hundred dollars. It's very frustrating that I'm still expected to pay extreme prices for updates to the system; updates which are very unlikely to be of use to me. Thanks to Mike for helping us navigate this unnecessarily convoluted procedure.
Thanks - greatly appreciated. I'm a long time Cakewalk user and intend to continue to be one as long as possible. Your assistance never fails to fill in the gaps, even for a veteran. Keep up the good work!
To chime in with many of the other comments - you don't need to go through the kokolores with the offline computer. To register, you do select the "register offline" option, but then just continue and register online. Follow everything Mike says except copying the files over to another computer and back. As long as the computer you're running Cakewalk on is connected to the internet (which most computers these days are), you do the whole process on that connected computer. But still thanks, Mike, for your kind help, greatly appreciated 😊
Thanks for this info Mike. Also, thanks for all of the things you have taught me about Cakewalk and recording in general over the the last couple of years. Cheers!
Hi Mike, i am well. I started in the late 80s Work with Bars and Pipes on an amiga500. I löst my Hobby and now i am back on it. Thank you for your great explanation. Made me very easy to continue. You are very good teacher.
Thanks Mike for everything you've done over the years to help Cakewalk Users and the Community. It is greatly appreciated. 👍 The Cakewalk ownership saga makes me wish I'd chosen Reaper as my DAW instead. 😢
Thank you so much for going into depth about installing on offline computer. This tutorial was exactly the way I like tutorials, hitting all the key points on my mind. Massive props and trust points for that!
Thanks Mike - you have a rare talent for explaining things in a logical and straightforward manner! I haven't got around to downloading the Product centre yet, so it's a timely reminder. Cheers!
Thanks a lot for this! I moved on to other Daws but i might want to open my old Cakewalk Bandlab projects again later. Your channel is the best Cakewalk channel imo!
Hello (Mike) Cakewalk Revealed: Many users were obviously confused about this video but I attribute that to people who just don't listen or do not see the whole video from start to finish. I understood you perfectly well and the new video where you supposedly clarify this confusion was very generous of you to post as well. But for the most part, this video here was clear and I understood it all. So thank you nonetheless for looking out for us Cakewalk users. I watch all your videos on Cakewalk (which are excellent) and appreciate your sharing your knowledge with us all for sure.
Thanks Mike. Thanks Cakewalk. I was worried about how all this would play out and I’m delighted to see they opted for the classy approach by allowing us to have a version of the DAW that we can continue to use.
I'm considering getting Studio One after seeing your last video, but I think I'll wait and see how this shakes out. After all, I've been using Cakewalk (formerly 12 Tones) since 1984! I tried Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Realband, and a few others, and keep coming back to Cakewalk.
At last! It was about time to do a channel on Cakewalk only!!! I love your past videos about Cakewalk and learned a sh** load of new stuff I never knew! Thanks, Mike!!! 🎸🎹🥁🎧🎤🎚🎵🎶
Already switched to Reaper. I was considering it for a long time but the Bandlab announcement pushed me to do it. Couldn't be happier with Reaper, very intuitive, stable, customisable. Wish I had done it ages ago.
Thank you so much, thanks to you i've learned how to get quality content in this daw; this has lead my projects to get hundreds of thousands of streams in platforms, thank you Mike!!
This is all good, but some time will pass (maybe two weeks) and Cakewalk will ask you to activate it again. And if there is no Internet on the computer, then the whole procedure will have to be repeated. For those who want to experiment, just fast forward a month and see what happens. I don’t understand the point of activation at all if the program is free.
We have worked and earned our money with Cakewalk professional for 20 years. After Gibson ended, we switched to Steinberg Nuendo, where we will remain. We simply need the specialized functions in audio postprocessing. But I can recommend Cakewalk to everyone when it comes to just making music. It is one of the best DAWs on the market. And Cakewalk has a long history and an insane range of capabilities when it comes to MIDI and audio.
Thank you so much Mike! For this very helpful video. I'm having concerns regarding my not being able to afford the new Cakewalk Sonar so having these downloads and being able to keep and install them is very important to me.
Thanks, Mike. I think I’ll check my desktop and laptop music PCs this weekend in the download center, and then save all of the download files to a usb stick for future use. I recently had to reinstall all of my old Sonar additional purchases on that new laptop, and that was a chore, getting access to the old Cakewalk site
Nice clear explanation, thanks. I need CBB for compatibility with music I produced in Cakewalk Sonar many years ago (paid version). And before that there was a free version I got from a magazine cover CD (can’t remember what that version was called, but maybe ‘Plasma’?).
Thank you for that. I can add that this process will let you install and activate the latest version of Bandlab on a Windows 7 PC. It's not officially supported but everything runs ok (so far) You will need a W10 computer for Cakewalk Product center and to generate the activation import/export files
Hello Mike, your tutorials are terrific and as a cakewalk user you have taught me a lot. I am seriously considering moving over to reaper because it is only $60, I have heard it is very versatile. I am waiting to see how much they're going to charge for the new Cakewalk sonar. That will certainly solidify my decision if I stick with Cakewalk or bounce to reaper.
Thanks for the heads up. I'm using Cubase currently and might have missed this, but I would be (will be someday, I suppose) very sad to lose Cakewalk given the files that I sometimes need/want to access going back almost 20 years. I transferred/converted my most essential files when Cakewalk was initially looking like it would die in 2017-18, so I'm mostly prepared if it does disappear, but I didn't transfer everything (too time consuming) and I've relied on Cakewalk a couple of times since... Like when my Cubase stopped working with my audio interface and no one could solve it for weeks but I needed a DAW that worked in the meantime... Cakewalk is more than adequate to fill in gaps like that and I enjoy working with it.
Thanks Mike, superb content as always! Have you thought about doing a video about recording a song using High end hardware and paid for plugins etc and then recording the same song using budget hardware and free plug ins to compare the quality afterwards? I think it would be informative and entertaining.
For anyone having issues with updating addons:

Thanks Derryl :)
thanks i had it installed but updated in case Cakewalk is old but nice, I use Cubase Pro now I tried so many DAWs Cubase is great
I've updated Cakewalk with Bandlab Assistant.

I've been using Cakewalk since 1989 (Twelve Tone Systems' DOS ver. 1.1 as I recall) and I'm not about to change now. So thank heavens for Mike!
Cakewalk 3 pro is still my favorite. I now have it working in Windows 10.
wow, and i thought pro audio 8 was ancient lol
Have been using Sonar, then Cakewalk for many years and Mike's guidance and expertise have been invaluable- clear, concise, patient and always engaging. Thank you. I can understand some of the concerns expressed here about how convoluted the reactivation process might seem, but folks need to remember that this has been a FREE product which is capable of some very professional functionality, for which we should be grateful.
Keep in mind, people like me paid several hundreds of dollars for Sonar before Bandlab took over - so no - it wasn't exactly free for us.

Thanks Mike for a great video and creating this channel. At 74 I am a newbie but you explain everything so well.
I can't get over how helpful this TH-cam channel is. I went from zero to one hundred thanks to Mike. Thank you Mike!
Thanks for this, Mike. Every user of Cakewalk owes you a debt of graditude. Cheers.
Thanks - greatly appreciated. I'm a long time Cakewalk user and intend to continue to be one as long as possible. Your assistance never fails to fill in the gaps, even for a veteran. Keep up the good work!
As always, a big thanks to you, Mike, you are always there when we need you.
I have wondered over the last few months how this 'Securing' process was going to be achieved , and as usual a succinct answer . . . thanks Mike.

Thanks so much Normg! Most helpful....and thank you too Mike, you are a true blessing.
Thanks, Mike! Very important indeed. I appreciate the heads up. Hope you're doing well.
Thanks again Mike from a longtime user, your value for us CbB users is immeasurable....
Thanks for this info Mike. Also, thanks for all of the things you have taught me about Cakewalk and recording in general over the the last couple of years. Cheers!

As always - clear, concise, excellent information. Mike, you are a great teacher! Look forward to exploring the new Sonar product with you.
Awesome, thank you!
Thanks Mike for everything you've done over the years to help Cakewalk Users and the Community. It is greatly appreciated. 👍
The Cakewalk ownership saga makes me wish I'd chosen Reaper as my DAW instead. 😢
Same here! Exactly the same thoughts on DAW choice - c'est la vie
Good deal, Mike! As always, we appreciate your help and knowledge.
Thanks for all your help through the years! you're a good man, Charlie Brown.
Thanks, Mike. Helpful as always
Glad you posted this, Mike. I wasn't aware of the need to set up the Product Center. Thank you!
Big Mike! You are the Bee's knees! Thank you so much, Sir! Continue to be well!
Cakewalk Product Center INSTALLED thanks to your perfect video. Thanks Mike!
Thank you so much for going into depth about installing on offline computer. This tutorial was exactly the way I like tutorials, hitting all the key points on my mind. Massive props and trust points for that!
Thanks a bunch for the great, precise step by step tutorial. Appreciate it.
Thanks Mike - you have a rare talent for explaining things in a logical and straightforward manner! I haven't got around to downloading the Product centre yet, so it's a timely reminder. Cheers!
Thank you Mike for your continued support to the Cakewalk community. Your Awesome!!
Thank you. Been using Cakewalk/Sonar since early 2000's.
Thanks a lot for this! I moved on to other Daws but i might want to open my old Cakewalk Bandlab projects again later. Your channel is the best Cakewalk channel imo!

I am so happy that I got this video in my inbox today, because when I opened Cakewalk I got this red warning sign. Thank you so much for saving me!!

Thanks Mike. I think I’ve already done this but I’m going back and double checking. Don’t wanna lose Calewalk.
Already switched to Reaper. I was considering it for a long time but the Bandlab announcement pushed me to do it.

thanks for helping ensure we can still access cakewalk in the future!!!
Mike, another great video clearly explaining a tricky process. Thanks!
Thank you! Very informative as always.
I already had the latest update but it was great to know about it and the offline activation. Great video, thanks
Thank you for that. I wonder if they are going to make any provisions for those of us who bought sonar under the old ownership.
Nice clear explanation, thanks. I need CBB for compatibility with music I produced in Cakewalk Sonar many years ago (paid version). And before that there was a free version I got from a magazine cover CD (can’t remember what that version was called, but maybe ‘Plasma’?).
