    trapped infancy
    what was lost in you
    found in solitude
    I've seen that all the fun and games
    aren't that fair to play
    I've seen that all the fucking games
    aren't that fun to play
    you should say everything you wanna say
    leave nothing unspoken for the early grave
    still you stay frozen when you need to leave
    it's only through death or love that we'll be free
    death or love and we'll be free
    a fortress crumbles from inside
    no fix when you're building on the broken
    and happiness is just a smile
    there's no way to replace the absence that grew cold like a sunset
    finally there's a glimpse of light cracking over the dark once illuminated

      to be fair - _fuck_ Spotify. it's a dogshit service for music discovery.
      TH-cam's predatory recommendations algorithm - the one they use to keep you glued to your computer for as long as possible - happens to be a _phenomenal_ resource for music discovery, on the other hand.
      that said - this track was never on an album. it wasn't even released on an EP - it was literally just a one-off track. it'll probably never be on Spotify.

      The Dillinger Esc Plan always managed to create a lot of scale/size through rapidly switching between high and low frequencies, and that style's complimented here by a punchy and compressed/tight production. The drums are fat, and the guitars, fatter!
      It might not sound like typical Dillinger, but it's one monolithic slab of alternative metal, all the same.

    • @dougclendening5896

      I think the slower tempo and rhythms really add to the beefiness too. It lets the thickness breathe and own its space .

      it kills me that this is just in drop D. i've got 7s and 8s and nearly all of my 6s are downtuned - i love these guitars and i try so hard not to think about how much it really doesn't even fucking matter, at least tonally rofl

    I get goosebumps from how much the musicality resembles something siphoned from my very own veins. I think anyone with anger issues will appreciate this track to various degrees. Musically it flawlessly follows the oscillating waves of pure rage and momentary introspection perfectly, which build a complete portrait of an exhaustive tantrum. As many of us know; these can be triggered by anything.

    The production on this is KILLER.
    The drum sounds, the guitar tone, the chugs, Greg's voice is clear as day... man.
    Probably the best-produced Dillinger track. Certainly the most metal sounding (from a production standpoint).
    Good job, boys.

      @nigelmacquillan7211 10 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      ***** It's an electronic kit. There is even some electro resonance on the kick. It's the 'style' of the song. I don't mind the song, but it's more industrial than metal.

    These guys are playing live in Tilberg, Netherlands on the 8th of August.
    They split just before I got into them, so I never expected a chance to see them until now.
    I've got just 2 weeks to get over my fear of flying, oceans, or tunnels, in order to see my favourite band (by quite a long margin).
    Lads, if you're reading this, I'm the guy in Scotland that has a ridiculous amount of song plays by yourselves.
    My pleasure - trust me.
    Hope to see you in Tilberg, or crash/ drown/get crushed trying.

    The production seems to be a problem for some people... Ire Works was a production-heavy record. Anyway, this is just a single, and at least it sounds different. A fun track to please the fans instead of having them wait years for a new record.
    Also, it has a NIN vibe. More NIN vibe than the last 20 years of NIN discography.

    • @getmad8748
      @getmad8748 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends what you call a NIN vibe. I think NIN is always changing, but they have have fundamentals that influence their sound. What you're talking about are some of the earlier NIN fundamentals. But, The Fragile had much of that too and took a turn toward the more beat oriented and as well as brian eno type sound scapes. Yeah, some of what's great about this song that has some of the early as well as melodic NIN vibes is not found as much from NIN's second era (2005-2015), however since this comment was written in 2014, I can see that you were talking about The Downward Spiral and Broken. You should check out the NIN trilogy from 2016-2018. NIN has revisited its early version and given it an innovative twist. Check out songs like Burning Bright, The Idea of You, Not Anymore, Shit Mirror, Ahead of Ourselves, Over and out and finally The Background World.
      The ending of Happiness Is A Smile reminds me of Tool's Ticks and Leeches. But def some cool NIN & even Deftones influence here. Awesome song.

      This is a one off B-Side from the Option Paralysis tour that they wrote on the road and recorded in 20 minutes with Evetts via email on the bus.
      Billy wasn't even playing Drums. They released it as a single EP and have it away on the final leg of the tour to anyone who was buying merch.

    Hold up everyone. I have been listening to TDEP since calculating infinity, and to anyone who is familiar with their discography, comparing them to pantera is fucking silly as shit. But now imagine you've only heard this song, and only heard like idk, Walk, by pantera. To me, the guitar sound on this track is much closer to a dime bag tone than anything else TDEP has done before. The slower pacing and open chugging is sort of dime baggy too. IDK I think its a fair comment from someone who doesnt know anything about heavy music.

      I got to see them, but it was before Greg when they opened for Mr. Bungle all the way back in 2000! Great show, didn’t know who the fuck they were at the time, but I’ll always consider them to be the LOUDEST band I’ve ever went to see! Lol...they were mind-blowing, but that was before they wrote any of the tunes with Greg, which for me, are the cream of the crop! 😉

    Too much Meshuggah, not much dillinger. This song is catchy and groovy and great, but not as messy and mind blowing as the old dillinger. I'm a little disapointed but thrilled to hear a new and another creative song from them

    I have been listening to God awful heavy music since 1991, and this is probably one of the heaviest, sick as fuck songs in the existence of mankind. As intricate as most of their stuff is, this is so simple its just what the doctor ordered., 🤟🤟

  • @Psyfonify

    The sound of this bass during the first main riff reminds me of Admiral Angry's guitar tone (yeah, they tune low as HELL) and its awesome!
    (if you like TDEP, and you like Meshuggah, maybe a little bit of sludge metal, youd like Admiral Angry)

    • @Psyfonify
      @Psyfonify 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Psyfonify also, the electronic drum samples on this song, reminds me of admiral angry as well (in a good way, not a bad way.)

    This is as close as these guys get to a melody huh? I went through a phase where DEP was all over my work out mix but fell out from them a bit. The news of there break up brought me here. Dig this song

    • @DaSlothMaster
      @DaSlothMaster 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Currently, I guess. One of us is the killer, nothing's funny, and paranoia shields are all very melodic. This song is somewhere in the middle of their abrasive mathcore and their melodic tendencies.
