Lyrics:
First off let me say you look so tired
Rest your head and shut your eyes
Empty ambition blankets the sky
I'm thinking 'bout another world
Tonight, you're right, you're right, you're right
So drop the gown the game's over
Just push your face into the fight
And it breaks my heart
Like dancing up all night
Ride so high, we both start thinking
'Bout another world tonight
And it feels so wrong
Like nothing we've ever felt before
You're right, you're right, you're right
The stranger's candy takes you where you ought to be
In broken alleys, in the back of every street
Close your eyes tonight
Baby you can have it
Baby you can have it
Ooh baby, [Incomprehensible] me down to the bone
Soon you'll find I'm never gonna take you back home
Well, there's so much you never told me
And there's not much I wanna know
'Cause your pretty face will do just fine
You'll be the star of my every last show
Let's go for a long ride
I'll show you places you won't ever wanna leave
The stranger's candy takes you where you ought to be
In broken alleys, in the back of every street
Stranger's candy, broken alleys, yeah tonight
We could bring it all down
We could bring it all down
They think this body's a dead note
Dancing to the beat but they'll never see this corpse
Coming 'til it kills them
2004 was an amazing year for metal
The world never deserved a band this amazing
A-fuckin'-men
YOU’RE RIGHT!!!! YOU’RE RIGHT!!!! YOU’RE RIIIIGGHHHHHTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!
@@LexTNeville wut
You either die a hero or live to see yourself as a villain. I'm glad they left while on top
Nobody deserves to have this exist. Nobody is that evil.
One of my all time favourite songs.
The guitar work is insane.
The everything work is insane
Definitely one of my favorite songs by The Dillinger Escape Plan.
The Dillinger Escape Plan deserves to have their own genre. Definitely one of my favorite bands. More unique than just about any other band there is.
They're Mathcore and one of the bands that helped make it a genre so they kinda made their own genre in a sense.
They are not Jazz Fusion metal at all....Bands like Animals As Leaders are Jazz Fuzion Metal. Dillinger fucking rock tho!
(Verse 1)
I became for you what you had asked
you're too young to ask outloud
I'm too old to not know that
I can talk like you've not heard
I know weapons
you think words I exposed you to these terms
you still chose to roll unheard
that could work but
not so fast
you're so open
I'm so crass
I'm to weak to hold that back
you still think intrigue will last
you can't imagine of my past
I just can't explain all that
I wish I could trad you're place
so romantic full of faith
I must spare you
I must learn
I refuse to be your first
first to put you in your place
first to make you speed your pace
I'm a man now (good or bad)
you're a girl still, (good for you)
don't think this don't make me sad
this is something I must do
Hook:
keep you own time (leave me be)
trying to spare you (trying to be)
god melodic (man on fire)
coward long gone (all desire)
fuck you raw now (it's my fault)
fuck you raw dog (I can't stop)
should have listened
should have left
I can't stop unless you're dead
it's so simple...open head
I will knit my savage thread
help me help you (walk away)
leave this un-amazing grace
you don't know you from pure disgrace
you still think I'm here to save
I'm not even really here
I can't give what I can't take
what a ride
what a slide under the door
what a score
you think I'm a genius?
I know I'm a whore
what a time
what a climate for our lives
what's in store?
you see live forever
all I see is war
I will pull your hair back
fuck you on the floor
pour myself into the act
poor myself (boo hoo I'm bad)
cause I know that these moments end
but telling you the truth is sad
you deserve the ignorance and bliss that I still wish I had
don't you let me keep you here
don't ignore my greatest fear
I need you to not need me
you need not beleive just flee
I will put myself in side you
find some way to run and hide you
I can't be responsible
do as I say, not as I do
Hook
this is not my ego talking
I know I'm no perfect draw
and I do love the way you lat there
and I do like the way we talk
maybe I'm just condescending
maybe this thing isn't wrong
maybe you should lay right there
put your hands up in the air
[Fades out:]
You still think I'm here to save
this is my type of religion
If you slap all the genres that they make up they become math-progressive-experimental-post hardcore, which i guess you could call the dillinger genre
Too bad they worked with jarron Benton and not el-p right?
I love these guys. It's not often you can elbow some stranger in the face and he hugs you afterward. Weird energy. I love it.
His voice is amazing
So good! Shame so many people didn't accept him for this album initially, right after Dimitri.
Lmao noooo 😂
Yes! I thought Mike Patton was featured in this song the first time I heard it. Greg has some pipe.
My favorite jazz band!!
DEP are one of my all time favorite bands but I'd say this was my favorite album.
Me too. It's just SO solid the entire way through
metal comes in many different forms, Black Metal, Super Black Metal, Progressive Vegetarian Scandinavian Grindcore, and... Lounge uwu 1:47
jajaajajaa Cierto pelo!!
If nothing else, you can’t say they were ballsy in experimentation.
@@copperdragon9214 drum beat is 4/4 with 7/8 guitar. That is experimental.
Yeah I thought that was intriguing.
Lt. Magnum he meant “can’t say they weren’t”
Love how the record label has listed the lyrics as [Incomprehensible], specially at one of the parts which is actually comprehensible :P
The lyrics book is apparently a joke 😂
How I lived 20 years without hearing this??
The sounds in this song gives me chills every time man.
greg looks like a nerd from the suburbs who has to be home by 6 and then one day got buffed and started screaming in some band and stuff
He is actually a really dorky guy but also an extremely hot and buff one hnng
hahahahaha!!!
I think what you meant to say was "and then one day got buffed and started shitting in a bag on stage in some band and stuff"
And I'm f'n here for it
This was too specific bro
My two favorite albums are Calculating Infinity and Miss Machine. They also both had the coolest album art.
King Infinite Ire Works is where its at for me
King Infinite I love the artwork of Calculating Infinity, yesss, looks so badass
I love Disassociation's artwork! It has a nod to Calculating too. Awesome!
That fucking jazz break though
You would like twelve foot ninja
It reminds bossa nova as well
Why had I not heard of these guys? Song absolutely slaps.
Their live performances were otherworldly. I miss them...
Check out twelve foot ninja if you like these guys
I always thought Greg was channeling Mike Patton on this song :/
honestly, that dude is ALWAYS channeling patton. not that its a bad thing.
I thought 2:09 was Mike Patton guesting on the song the first time I listened, sounds so like him
linguo76 That's because this was the first album that came after the godly Mike Patton ep, give it a listen or 2000000, it's great.
@@owenmordid2446 He was channeling frank zappa
Nice incendiary profile picture
I love the Mike Patton influence of this song
1:47 gets me every time chillz Bossa Nova style out of no where Man Pennie was such a sick ass drummer
i just discovered these guys
i like them
i cant figure out wat i would call their music
progressive insanity done with precise timing?
"Ooh baby, [Incomprehensible] me down to the bone"
The word you're looking for is GNAW.
This album is their best
This song is so Faith No More/Mr Bungle. Fuckin LOVE it.
Well ... there is the influence of these groups ... and the genius Mike Patton.
Damn straight!!
Joan Saag I believe Patton sung on one of their EPs
+Trey Milton I was about to post the same... Patton's a genius, and these guys form an awesome band.
That's exactly what I thought at the first seconds: "Wow, sounds like a Faith No More song".
The Dillinger Escape Plan é maravilhoso, cara 🤘🏻
The breakdown riff you can hear throughout the song is the one DsO likes a lot, the apparent influence TDEP had on them becomes more obvious the more I listen to this band. Good shit!
Greg looks like a ripped version of that guy from Lonely Island in this video
True!
Andy samberg? Lol
Steroids gave us this beautiful anger music 🤌
This video is perfect for this song. Period.
I find kinda funny how people complain about this song, but still it is really elaborated and quite complex to do a more mass, pop appealing song, when you're used to abuse dissonance. It's not as easy as it seems to come up with a great melodious idea, yet not repetitive.
Luv the jazzy bridge
Glad I'm not the only one picking up on the Mike Patton similarity in the vocals. Can hear it in the song Phone Home too.
Are you kidding, every one of their songs sounds Mike Patton influenced
2018.... Casi 2019..... From the best album of DEP
Man I listened to dillinger escape plan alot in high school and now I listen to the black queen more. It is such a drastic change in vocal style and I'm here for it lol.
Well, I listened to this when I played Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, before I get into TDEP. Damn, i didn't even knew that they're been on Guitar Hero setlist, when I was a kid.
That "Guitar Hero" game was awesome.
I love this song !!!
Luv these guys
Thank u :)
Love Patton's influence in his vocal patterns
dudes, REALLY??!!! DEP is one of the MOST talented AND original bands in the last 20 years! Yeah, ok sometime their jazz scales and cord progressions along with odd time signatures make the music maybe not what you were expecting, but that dosent make it any less melodic(in their way)or less awesome or even beautiful.
if you dont like them, you dont like them. thats cool and TOTALLY ok, but WHY bash them??
P.S. this song is SO badass
i've never seen Greg with hair like that. It's so weird.
Chris' spaz out at 2:30 always gets me
I wish they made more songs like this
Agreed, This song really hook me up to them from the first time i heard.
Rittiron Sontimaung agreed
Yeah apparently Greg hated this album so they drifted away from the sound unfortunately.
@@jeffreybeaumont4542well I think milk lizard is pretty close to something sounding like this
Yeah absolutely, was so disappointed when I found this to be the only one with this vibe, song is so fucking masterfully crafted with a mix of different genres.
great production! Greg is amazin'
my favorite dep song
The Dillinger Escape Plan 🐐 of screaming and still sounding 🔥
Wow...does this song have a Faith No More vibe to it!
Cheers for warriors of rock guys
the best song.
DAT MUSHROOM CUT THO
Definetely right man DEP is THE BAND OF BANDS, their vmusical and theme variety is so amazing, romance, violence, trippy music, DEP is definetely alognside Every Time I die mMy favorite bands, theyr lyrics and music are so deep you identify almost imediately,
Good sounding music.
Always Excellent
It's like... It's like... I don't even know!
Frigging Dillinger Escape plan are too frigging schweet!
God I fucking love The Dill Pickle Escape Van
what
@@thatawkwardbean bruh 2 yo comment cmon
Dill Pickle is awesome!
Peak hydrocephalus.
bruh 5 yo comment cmon.
1:47 Faith No More mode activated
2:10 Mike Patton mode activated
If you did an album of all the songs they played straight forward you would still have a better album than most metal bands out there!
Anyone who's doubting this band's slot as the headliner at Summer Slaughter has obviously never scene them live and has failed to thoruoghly explore the diversity of their discography! They are a cut of a different cloth and have the most energetic live performance I've ever scene!! The guitarist Ben and singer Greg spend the majority of the set in the air or in the crowd :D

For those of y'all asking if its jose mangin in the video it is him I just found an old blabber mouth article about it from 2004
Yes.
Guys, thanks for this HQ video. Gread band, great song! ))
Such an awesome song :D
LOVE.
holy.. fuck... Why haven't I heard this yet
"there's no way to replace the absence that you called. Finally, there's a light over the dark one's illuminated."
Think about that from a Christian perspective. What a powerful lyric. Whether or not he meant it this way.
Is that guy at the bar Jose mangin from Sirius xm?
The dude is Jose from SiriusXM radio, and the woman is, at the time, a police officer. Jose talked about it on his radio show, he said she was totally cool and let him and the band smoke weed.
best song!
Two things brought me here:
1. Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock
2. The lead singer used to bang Jenna Haze
My favourite Emo band!
Try understanding 7 Angels 7 Plagues: f'n brilliant. Much love to The Dillinger Escape Plan.
EARLY MASTERPIECE OF METAL!!!!!!!
I think the [incomprehensible] lyric is gnaw, "oh baby, gnaw me to the bone". Come on Relapse youre slackin
I don’t usually like metalcore, but I gotta say DEP is hitting different
Id never, but if i ever went on a murderous rampage, id have this song on repeat!
Greg is the man!
Guitar hero? :D
YES
Warriors Of Rock!
Yes
Is the actor guy at the bar the annoying guy from Sirius Radio?
Can anyone tell me if M Shadows from AX7 was featured on this song?
Back when it came out this song misled me to believe it had Mike Patton in it, and today I found out that there is actually an ep they did with him. Life is weird.
Because life isn't all rainbows and sunshine
Farewell Mona Lisa is pretty damn progressive...If 11/16 time isn't progressive enough for you I don't know how to help you.
Just cuz it’s technical does mean it actually sounds good
@@vonbeaver99 it sounds amazing, my dude
At the one part, he says "Ooh baby you gnaw me right down to the bones"
My mistake, it's "you gnaw me down to the bone" not right down lol
Ahh... sweet memories
I love the DEP because they are versatile. They can destroy your ear drums and rape your soul one minute , get down and groove the next. You can't accuse them of sounding samey (is that a real word??) One of the best live bands I've ever seen \m/
The most underrated metal song in the world
actually not metal, more like hardcore
@@c95060 I don't know, it's hardcore basically punk metal or metal punk. Most people would agree that the quintessential hardcore band is DRI. And I would totally describe DRI as punk influenced metal if there waas no genre called harcore. And the first harcore band is of course Bad Brains, whom I'd call metal influenced punk. What they all have in common is the metal,,, /punk thing. So I don't think it's wrong to say DEP is metal. It's some f the heaviest yet listenable music ever imo.
@@buckemptieri’ve always considered them mathcore

@@thepaleprinceofruins9203 thanks bro, always love finding new music
I always saw Dillinger Escape Plan as a version on steroids of Faith No More and Dog Fashion Disco ... I mean if you really like music, you are inevitably going to love DEP
They put on the BEST live shows. Before I saw them last Friday, I could not have said that I saw a moshpit on stage, let alone have been in one.
Now I can. To both.
Shit was tits.
kazuma kiryu drinking in a pirate ship bar while the Dillinger escape plan films a music video.
My man Jose Mangin!
