In case you were wondering: The video was too brutal for the music channels back then. That’s why the band had to cover up the most brutal scenes with funny stickers . If I remember the story right: The fact that no verse rhymes is intentional. The band members only wanted to use authentic sentences that they had heard from their families before. So they collected many sentences and tried and moved them around until a singable song came out of it. 🙂

You can also find the uncensored version of this video on TH-cam, without the Stickers, Textboxes and with red blood.
Also: "Willst du dass wir sterben?" really means "Do you want us to die?"
It seems they just wanted the last part to have a rhyme.

It's not for a ryhme. It's from a prase some people really say. "Do you want to kill me / us".
      They heard it often.

To this song of them it gives a newer song of them as a perfect answer to there question here ("what should think the naibours") . That newer answer song of them i mean calls " lass reden" / "let speak"). ^^

"Go to college, get a day job, work there for 30 years, then retire" Man, imagine that, retiring at 50!
But in all seriousness, this is one of my favourite songs about generational conflict. I'm really lucky that my parents were never that hung up about what the neighbours thought. My parents were pretty chill in general, but I still had a rebellious phase, even though I didn't have much to rebel against. That's just being a teenager, but a lot of adults still act like it's worrisome if you don't have your life figured out by the time you're 18. Hell, I'm 26 and I'm far from having anything figured out. I get wanting to make sure your child will be okay, but I remember some of my friends' parents yelling at them for bad grades, punishing them for acting up, trash talking their interests, trying to force them in a direction they deemed "acceptable", telling them they won't amount to anything if they don't do what they tell them. That's no way to raise a confident, responsible person! Either they comply out of fear of punishment or a desire to please, keep stuff from their parents and rebel in secret, or lash out and possibly get into bad situations, just to spite their parents. Being a queer person, I know a lot of people whose parents really did a lot of damage to their psyche by forcing them in certain directions, even if they didn't do it from a place of bigotry (usually they didn't even know that their kids were queer, because they didn't feel comfortable coming out to them because of the parents' behaviour) Being overly controlling and trying to push your kid in a certain direction, nine times out of ten will just push them further away. I went off on a bit of a tangent there, anyway, love the song.

Your parents are probably close to my age. We learned hopefully what not to do from our parents. My parents when I was your age were definitely like the parents in this song. Fortunately as they got older they got more understanding about the things that made my sister and I happy

As always, a great reaction, congratulations to your really good understanding and spelling of German language by now! This song will always have a spot in my heart, as I went to a concert of that tour in 2007 as my first "real" concert till then, and my only Die Ärzte concert till today... Many other people already mentioned the "special" way to censor this vid for German TV, so I won't go there😉 The whole song is indeed a collection of the most common cliché comments of conservative parents in Germany, but I think all over the world, more or less... there are so many awesome songs from Die Ärzte out there to explore, so I hope to see more. For something different, maybe check out a band from my home state in Northern Germany, its name is "Fettes Brot" and their most well known songs are "Nordisch by nature" (by FAR) and most likely "Emanuela" or "An Tagen wie diesen" Greetings from the baltic sea in Germany!
