It's been years since I last saw that scene and I still think about it. It really does say everything there is to say about that feeling without anyone saying a word.
Only issue I have is that it is never indicated that spike and vicious didn’t get along when they were both in the syndicate. If anything the show indicates the opposite. They got along quite well and were likely even friends . The show also indicates that prior to meeting Julia spike was quite a bit more ruthless and cutthroat. This is part of why vicious is so mad at him. His best friend not only betrayed him by taking his lover but became a completely different person at the same time. “I bled all that kind of blood away”. “THEN WHY ARE YOU STILL ALIVE??!!!!”
Bebop is a comfort show for me. Even named my cat after Jet. Something about Bebop feels so unlike any other anime. The tone, the characters, the style, the soundtrack, the storytelling. Such a special series, as short as it may be.
In highschool I used the mushroom samba episode as the buildup to when we did shrooms cause when it was close to over we were almost always feeling it And then giggling as how unlike shrooms was to how the episode portrays it
Having watched the show many times and knowing most of this information is condensed into single episodes, laying it out chronologically certainly puts some new perspective on it. If someone who has never watched the show watched this video and then the show, they'd likely be very confused by the pacing and non-linear nature of it. Great video.
@@socksenseiSensei, I just finished watching Cowboy Bebop today, and your video. It was an amazing summary to this amazing anime. Made me understand how deep the emotions run with every character. You've earned a sub. Thank you so much!!!
Growing up, I immaturely took Spike as a role model, someone to be. Now, as a grown man, I realized he's supposed to be a cautionary tale. To not let the past hold us from forming meaningful connections in our present, to make it better for today. _To carry that weight..._
He was able to walk away from a past, but when that past came back to haunt him, the thought of a happy ending caused him to go down the rabbit hole, because he wanted to believe he could still make it happen. In a way, Julia's last words could suggest that this is the end of Spike's dream in a sense, that the thought of him ever being with Julia again is now long gone. When he disappeared, he knew she was still alive, so in the back of his mind he held onto that hope that maybe he could achieve that happiness but sadly when he took his chance, Viscous snatched it away from him. It is sad he let the past hold such a tight hold over him when he could of continued to make those new memories with the crew of the Bebop but I think Spike also understood that it's not so much he gave up. He knew that Viscous would continue to chase him, even if he went back to the Bebop crew, Viscous had already shown that he was more than willing to kill Jet and Faye, make them collateral damage. So sure, he could run away but then the past of Viscous would remain. You could say he went down a tragic hero, because it's completely plausible that he wasn't just blinded by revenge in killing Viscous but also as a means to protect those friends he had made on the Bebop. He sacrificed his own life so that he wouldn't hold back Jet and Faye who had carved their own path, while of course they would of welcomed him into the family they had made, I don't think Spike would want to live with the fear that his comrades could become targets of The Syndicate especially with the power grab that Viscous had taken.

I finished the show for the first time last night. What a masterpiece!! One thing I liked about Bebop was how it doesn’t hold your hand. It tells the story through the music and the visuals. Instead of exposition dumps, there are many quiet and atmospheric moments. However, the cryptic storytelling can leave the viewers a little confused, so your video was very helpful for me.
This is the first video I've seen on Bebop that actually wrapped all the plot points in the episodes together good work sir. This is one series that hits differently when you are young and you really don't under stand the weight until your older. The the scene that effected the younger me was Spikes first brush with death when he was shoved out the window in episode 5. Spike being excepting while Vicious was totally opposite. I wondered for a very long time how I could get myself to that excepting state of mind. It wasn't until much later that those other episodes off loosing comrades really got to me.
What I see from cowboy bepop is that you should never give up regardless of what's going on. We should try to do good even if you're world is chaotic and even if you don't want to you should at least try. (which we can all do as well.)
for people who have read my comment let me ask you, what did you do that was good for yourself AND people around you? More importantly are you satisfied with the amount of goodness that you bring to this world? That is a question that we must ask everyday.
One of the best animes ever made, fighting for top spot with other old but gold like Berserk and Evangelion. Strange how the best animes are the ones that are already 2~3 decades old.

He knew Jett would kill him and he was trying to atone for his betrayal all those years ago. Cowboy Bebop is a fucking masterpiece, and I'll say it anytime it's brought up.
The last episode of Bebop was actually the first one I saw by accident, channel surfing in the of the night. I knew I had to watch the rest of the series, and watching it through the lens of knowing that Spike was a walking dead man really impacted my understanding of the story. Still one of my favorites.

Hey man, just wanted to let you know that I spent all morning watching your videos on Evangelion, Rebuild and Cowbow Bebop - series which I've watched and liked, but struggled to appreciate in their gestalt. I found your summary and explanations of all these to be the best videos diving into these series that I've seen, possibly ever. Thanks a lot

I never got into bebop when I was younger as I thought it was long drawn out and boring and omg, I was so wrong. I don’t think I appreciated the nuance before, watching it now, it was crazy that Faye’s backstory literally made me cry and I couldn’t quite explain why… very few shows have done that to me. The way the characters are so nuanced and never express their true feelings, but also do in their own cryptic way is phenomenal and is the only way this story works, truly masterful. Also the “im not going to die, I’m going to see if I’m alive line” was incredible and one of the best one liners I’ve seen in anime. The work is truly a master piece, I get it now.
Looking at cowboy bebop as a very convoluted love story is my favorite perspective. Born into a bad life, knowing nothing but bad things. Accepting it all until he met a woman, fell in love. And started to realize the life he was living.. wasn’t a life at all. He tried to escape his past with the woman to begin a new life.. and failed. And when they were separated, he drifted between two worlds. One in the past, one in the present. Then, cowboy bebop begins… the real story of the tiger striped cat..
Mann u deserve to be paid for this breakdown. I love how u connected the sessions like they are just one long movie.. also I would like for u to have touched on the movie.. I doubt it's cannon tho. Again thanks for this breakdown. So hard finding any bebop reviews.

Well articulated my friend. I did really enjoy this. 10/10. It'd been 11/10 if the movie was also included in this awesome timeline. Thanks for this
This is so well made. Thank you for explaining something from my younger days so perfectly. So glad I came across your video :)
I watch through this show at least once every 2 years or so. The church and syndicate scenes are some of the best in all of anime.
what a great video essay. Cowboy Bebop is probably my favorite show period, maaayyyybe second only to adventure time. and that is a BIG maybe. The jazz, the aesthetic, and the characters are so lovable to me. I really enjoyed how you structured the events of the story, which aren't super clear time-wise, like the gate event and when spike was born, for example. I love all your comments on the themes and how Spike is the one stuck in the past. Thanks for making this :)
You seen Samurai Champloo or Gurren Lagann? Both are very also good, imo classics like Bebop…
You're gonna carry that weight never had so much meaning until you said it
Loved your Evangelion video it made so much sense and helped so much bro
glad to hear it! While this show is no where near as confusing, I hope you liked this one!
I love cowboy bebop so fucking much
It is a great show, period.
I just finished the show and damn the tears rolling down my face as I screamed, Faye is your present spike! She is literally choosing you! And then when I saw Julia I had such a visceral reaction. It was anger, sadness and joy to see who she was finally. I know this show is going to stay with me for a long time
I hope that someday you'll make sense of Trigun.
Great video, btw.
I'll have to rewatch it and see what there is I could make a video out of, glad you enjoyed this one
Just finished the series and this video helped me find closure. A better summary I couldn't have imagined. Chefs Kiss
Thanks a lot
i reember being a kid and seeing this show on tv late at night sometimes, havent thougt of the show for years and years until today, now watching all this...idk i appreciate the show for what it is/was. . .i didnt know as a kid that i was watching something that my future self would connect with so much..
Watching this made me realize how much influence this series had on me when I was young.
Mann u deserve to be paid for this breakdown. I love how u connected the sessions like they are just one long movie.. also I would like for u to have touched on the movie.. I doubt it's cannon tho. Again thanks for this breakdown. So hard finding any bebop reviews.
Great job man.
This was my first time watching your content and it felt cohesive and well delivered.
Subscribed!
Ed & Faye are my favorite characters. Such a well scripted and plotted series. Worthy of a novel.
I've watched bebop probably over a hundred times and still finding new information in videos like this is so awesome. Thank you for your work my dude.
Thanks man, wished the makers of the live action had just one ounce of love that you showed in this video
Damn I cried at the end of it again! I love how you broke all the plots down. Thanks for this masterpiece!
I don't care what anyone says, it's a goddamn masterpiece that shaped me as a young female anime lover and human, for Better or for worse.
It is! I made a video about Spike Spiegel's origins. I created my channel just a month back, so it would be great if you could watch it and share your feedback. Thanks, and sorry for spamming.
The episode with that clown who seemed immortal scared me as child
I remember my mom would be driving us down the road and I could've sworn I seen him standing under the street lights
Faye shooting at the Ceiling was such a great emotional Scene
Had me almost crying
Gosh darn it ya made me watch Eva and now you're makin me watch Bebop
Had to do it to ya
This really hit a string and waterd my eyes this isn't an anime its a beautiful story of how the past is the only thing that can keep you from living
And sometimes can be a thing that comes back and bite you in the ass
I love this show, I've watched it so many times and when I'm feeling out of it, I'll still watch an episode. Thank you for the video!
Ein, short for Einstein, pronounced like the beginning of that name...
The mushroom episode and the one ending at the carnival with the guy scared of the cat ..are what made me go from liking to loving this series
my goat…spikes story resonates with so many people because of how realistically flawed he is. even his most “cool” aspects are signs of his most undesirable traits.
I have watched this show about 7-8 times… your video helped me to understand it fully only now! I thank you
"YOU'RE GONNA CARRY THAT WEIGHT."
You son of a gun, you got me. And you're damn right-I am.
Ed leaving still makes my eyes water. I love that episode
welp now I know which anime I'll be watching next. You're 2 videos on Evangelion pushed me to end up watching it and really enjoying it and now I'm gonna end up watching Cowboy Bebop as well all thanks to you.
This is one of the best TH-cam videos I’ve ever seen. Like ever.
Loved the way you wrote and structured this!
As someone who has watched this show multiple times it actually cleared up a lot of the confusion I had about certain parts of the timeline
and to think this entire series is only 26 episodes, still one of my favorites to this day
A very very good synopsis. Excellent summary! Thank you for sharing your insights. I will ALWAYS be a fan of Cowboy Bebop.
Man I love Jet, Eddy and Fay. I feel sorry for spike.
Just found this channel and started the video but I already know I will binge all videos on this channel

In his prime, Samual L Jackson would have been a great choice for Udai in a Live Action adaptation
I have literally said the same thing to my friends!
I made a video about Spike Spiegel's origins. I created my channel just a month back, so it would be great if you could watch it and share your feedback. Thanks, and sorry for spamming.
God tier writing man. Great job. Joey the animeman would love your channel.
In the end just make sure that you remember to clean out the fridge every couple of weeks.
