there definitely is a watch order for stay night. keep in mind that in the vn you can't play the ubw until you complete fate, and you can't complete heaven's feel till you completed ubw. watching the anime with no order is mind is dumb too, because (especially heaven's feel) they all rely on stuff you'd know from previous routes. watching zero first is not a good choice either, because it's intended as the sort of prequel you watch after the main show. it directly spoils quite a few things revealed in heaven's feel and some other routes. it's best to go fate -> ubw -> hf -> zero
Agreed but i would recommend people watch a walkthrough of the fate route on youtube if they don't want spoilers for Heaven's Feel from the anime adaptation.
It's a real shame not to touch on Oath Under Snow, as its thematically in line with F/SN despite being part of the Prisma Ilya universe. A truly fantastic movie that i've shown to people only casually aware of Fate, and that had no interest in Prisma Ilya.
Thematically, yes. But not chronologically. The OUS timeline (Or Miyuverse) had a very different Kiritsugu that never met the Einzberns nor fought in any Grail War. In fact, there is no mention of the Einzberns in that universe, the Ainsworth taking their place apparently in the making of that world's grail system for a very different motive. Kiritsugu finding and adopting Shirou in a ruined city was either a complete coincidence or Alaya messing with Shirou's fate at a multiversal level, but the latter is just a theory of mine.

Oath Under Snow is a travesty to the peak that is Prisma Illya, it did not do the story justice and the animation is subpar bordering bad. If he ever decides to continue Prillya it should be by the manga instead.

Like the animation for anything Prillya related has never been GOOD, it's just been decent enough that you mostly don't notice the hiccups. I know this isn't a character analysis but one key thing about Kiri rejecting the Grail which I thought was kinda fire was that the Grail essentially saying it'll bring about peace by the means for which kiri would have done so and acted out till that point (sacrificing the few for the many). So many more people would have died as a consequence of his ideal and sorta saying his ideals were wrong from the start regardless of its End goal
We know the Grail was all good until Angra Manyu was forced to be summoned. Angra Manyu is the literal incarnation of evil. This corrupted the Grail. The Grail is a literal Monkey's Paw. So no, nothing to do with Kirei.
Yeah that was the argument The Source of All Evil made and fit in the show. But the Grail was going to try destroying everything no matter what wish or who touched it. Its honestly kinda stupid that these Mage families keep trying to get it. Third Order magic isn't even that impressive

They're a blast, and I love them, but without that grounding, they're a bit confusing.
I think thats because you really aren't supposed to watch Heavens Feel first. I think he was totally wrong with saying the order you watch in isn't important, even though they're all separate timelines. The release order is really the best way to watch the whole series because you can see how much Shirous character evolves from Stay Night to Heavens Feel that culminates in him wanting to live at the end of HF.
Shinji made me want to drop the last route. Especially after finding out everything he did to Sakura and the attempt I liked the fight against Berserk and I liked the chase from the first movie even more

I really disagree that the watch order isn't that important. I think there is an overarching narrative in the three routes that lead to the end of HF. In each route, we see Shirou's ideals being tested more than the last. His ideals are basically useless in the Fate route because he can never go back in time to save Arturia, he just has to wait until they meet again in Avalon. In UBW, he has to reaffirm his ideals against a version of himself that has suffered because of those ideals, and in HF he has to abandon those ideals to protect the person he cares about the most and in doing so he finds a reason to live instead of something to sacrifice himself for.
Fate/Zero is chronologically but you should do Fate/Stay Night first, Fate/Hollow Ataraxia is another route in Fate/Stay Night that follows a different protagonist, then ya got alt timelines in every other series that kinda just stand on their own and alone.

The biggest hurdle most people get caught up on is Fate/Stay Night the 3 routes havetheir own adaption. Basically each route roughly takes place during the same event however what characters do and their decisions are very different from each other. Why is it like this? Fate Stay Night was a visual novel, basically a book, and you read and complete one route to go on to the next story or route. Each route has their narrative focus and elaboration. The first route, the Fate route, has Saber as the main heroine and sets the setting and ground work of what is to come. The Unlimited Blade Works route focuses more on the characters, looking into most of the characters drives and motivations why they are in the war. The Heavens Feel Route, takes hard shift, it shows the underbelly and true nature of the Holy Grail War, what you thought before of the Holy Grail War, wasnt quite accurate. What I am trying to say is from each route you get a full story but not everything is elaborated and covered, it isnt until you play or read each route until you get the complete picture. I played the fan translated Fate Stay Night VN before most of the anime shows were out so I always just see the 3 routes as one, most people now see them differently- as 3 separate stories.

They knew that the lesser grail they made was not the "real holy grail" and they intend to fuel this lesser grail with the other mages as sacrifices. The founding families intended to reach the root while the Einzbern specifically wanting to attain Third Magic. But it wasn't a success as you've said because only one of them can obtain it, ensuing a power struggle not only amongst the four outsiders but within the the founding families as well.

As a Fate fan just read the Stay Night VN. There's a version without H scenes and it's genuinely better than the anime, which is pretty much garbage compared to it because of how much context and details it leaves out. Angra Mainyu became the Source of All Evil because that was what his people believed him to be and the form he imprinted on the world was that as the Source of All Evil. He produces Evil even though it wasn't his choice. He's as much of Evil as any other Servant are themselves, the product of myth shaping the collective awareness of Humanity.

As a Fate fan just read the Stay Night VN. There's a version without H scenes and it's genuinely better than the anime, which is pretty much garbage compared to it because of how much context and details it leaves out. Fate is genuinely a lot less confusing if you read it how you're intended to. That being said, now talk about Tsukihime, KnK, and Mahoyo. Loser.
Not to mention how ufotables rewrites ruin literally every moment.

Fate isn't complicated. You literally watch the main three storylines based on the FSN Visual Novel, watch order is inconsequential then watch the others at your leisure.
