@@ripsterhipster5948 Dang you're so cool. So, please, tell me... When will you be uploading your interpretations of art in a vulnerable form such as this? It's awful convenient for you to mock a creator when you yourself have done nothing of value. I can only hope that when you become an adult, you stop trying to be such an edgy shell of a human.
Eva's theme is universal: loneliness, depression, self and awareness. It is also a lesson we can take away to be a better person once we are aware if we are struggling with these issues.
@@aarocka11 there are other languages in the world and ppl who use them. For example "eve" has different pronunciation and even different spelling in other cultures including mine so I think its kinda pathetic to be grumpy over that in a global social communication and media platform such as youtube. As long as u get what he tries to say thats all it matters. the world doesnt revolve around u but u have to revolve around the world u live in and explore to understand things as well as adapt to the differences & change
1:10:49 "to be human, is to fail, to be terrible, to learn from your mistakes and shortcomings, to self improve" My favorite quote from this video. Loved it alot
I fundamentally disagree with the conclusions drawn by both the anime and the guy explaining the anime. There are things in life that are far far worse than loneliness. There are emotions there are things that can happen to you that break you so completely that literally cause you to suffer for every single second you are still alive. Whether that's physically or emotionally. There is suffering that is so strong. Suffering that goes so bone deep. That the strongest happiness life could bring, does not even begin to make the suffering worth going through. Thankfully most people don't have to go through that type of suffering. But many do. And that's what always frustrates me about these types of media where some government or entity gets rid of emotion to stop suffering and the "hero" brings emotions back because happiness and love feel good too. Like no sorry. There can be no happiness for someone suffering in the beginning stages of dementia or Alzheimer's. Where you're trapped in a healthy body as your mind betrays you and you forget who you are and who you were and everyone you've ever loved. You look in the mirror and see someone you don't recognize. You genuinely see a stranger. You wander out of your house for hours searching. Lost in the city you've lived in all your life. Trapped. You know what the cartel do in mexico? They stuff and tie someone in a bunch of rubber tires and then set the tires on fire. Because it kills them slowly. It can take days for the person to burn to death. Because it's the tar that slowly eating through their skin. It's agonizing. It's a pain you can't imagine. It's a pain no one can imagine unless they've gone through it. And there's no way you can tell me that the fleeting happiness of the world makes pain like that worth it. Because that's just a lie. If the worst thing humanity ever had to go through was loneliness or sadness or grief I could see your point. But those emotions are shallow and nothing compared to the real thing. True despair and true hopelessness and true pain. There's nothing worse than the certainty that the pain will never get better. And that's a lot of people's reality right now. The morals of this show are f****** dumb. And wrong. Sure it may resonate with all of the privileged people who never had to experience real suffering. And I hope those people never do. I hope they only ever experienced the mundane sadness that comes with being a human. Right now someone is torturing a baby to death so I mean are you really going to tell me that, the baby's suffering is worth it so the rest of humanity can experience happiness LMAO no it isn't.
@@WhitneyDahlin I understand what you mean, but those things don't happen to everyone. the feelings shown here are able to happen to anyone, and because of others, or not having others, they occur. Those things are some of the worst possible feelings, but the meaning of both this explanation and show are that true loneliness is the worst emotion, and if it doesn't get better, it makes every human experience just another dreadful day to live. I agree, that depression and loneliness aren't the worst things that can happen, but they rip away humanity from those who undergo those emotions. (Sorry if I repeated things lol)
@@SteveBufz So! The universe is cruel & unfair. There so much pressure. What are you going to do about it? Are you going commit suicide from that pause? Hell, you have luxury to pick your own death unlike the victims such as patients with terminal illness, war factions, extreme zones, etc.
Kawaru is the single best written plot point and character In any show. He’s in the show for barely an episode but creates one of the most lasting impacts. He hits emotional and pushes the show forward perfectly.
Honestly, I was both astonished and impressed by how they made a character go from “The new pilot of Unit 05” to “Shinji’s boyfriend” to “Plot Twist Enemy” in the span of 1 episode. An absolute roller coaster of events lmao
I thought it was interesting you saw the mass produced evas as doves, to me they were infinitely more similar to vultures, with how they circle above and only truly come in for the kill once their opponent is down.
I agree that they act like vultures, I felt the introduction of them jumping out the plan gave them a dove, savior like look, but they quickly become vultures, circling their prey, picking them apart.
I think one thing that made the series so loved is the fact that even if you can’t understand the series completely there’s something deep in everyone that makes people understand it one way or another.
Ye indeed. I doubt I can never understand the series fully because I never (luckily) had to go through these issues that the series characters have or what the show's creator had. I bet ppl who went to such deep end in their lives/heads can maybe relate to the series and its characters lot more but even so its very thought provoking anime for anyone to watch. Even to someone like me who doesnt really care that much about anime in general. I just wish someone had told me that watch End of Evangelion first before watching last two episodes but on the other hand it was kind of interesting to went through that "what the hell" experience 😂

The video was spot on, but just a small correction, all of the evas are based on Adam, except 01 which is created from the lower half of Lilith, hence why Lilith's body is missing both legs
Ok one question I didn’t seem to get answers anywhere is when 01 went berserk why did it ran on all 4s, it being made from lower half of Lilith doesn’t explain it

This anime helped me figure out my relationship with my father more than any amount of therapy. My father and I are two extremes of human nature : he fears loneliness so much he doesn't mind sinking in a spiral of miscommunication, manipulation and betrayal, as long as he's not alone. Me, I fear the pain of opening to others, letting them in and making myself vulnerable to being betrayed and hurt. So I shut everyone out, reject love and relationships, and I accepted the pain of loneliness because it's the lesser evil as far as I'm concerned.
I don’t know much about my dad but the few times I’ve met him, he’s exactly like me now that I think about it :/. Lowkey made me think about how I hate dead beats in anime so much lol
Random religion wiki fact: Longinus is the name given to a Roman soldier that mercy killed Jesus on the cross. His lance in some circles also is called the Spear of Destiny. I know pretty much everyone knows this, but a few might not :) so many easter eggs in NGE
I know this is an old comment, but I just need to correct you; the Roman soldier we call Longinus used his spear to ensure Jesus was already dead, not to mercy kill him; Jesus then bled "blood and water" from the spear wound, indicating He had been dead long enough for his blood to begin to separate.
This is the definitive Evangelion analysis video I've been searching for for decades on TH-cam. You are the only one that has actually made my all-time favorite anime make sense to me. I always knew Evangelion was brilliant, but never knew how to explain it even after watching it for the millionth time. I understood Shinji and other characters and the philosophy of this series, but never understood the minute details of why certain things happened and its oftentimes complex lore. It's like I've known about all this deep down, but you somehow brought it to consciousness without breaking a sweat. "Congratulations!" 👏
without taking away anything from this phenomenal video, i just want to say that you do not need to understand all of the connections and storylines to appreiciate evangelion. The series takes its own lore very lightly and is more interested in building a bizarre campy world with depressing undertones where people value things very different from us. at no point do any character / story-arc seems to be written in order to relate with the viewer or even to give us the conventional satisfaction of storytelling of premise, conflict, resolution
As someone who has watched Evangelion but failed to understand the story it was trying to tell, only being able to capture the bare minimum, this has been very eye opening, at the very least I can say that this show has been something that changed my mentality.
@@njogusznI view the concept of reality differently now. We don’t share one reality, we all have realities that we share with each other, intimacy is sharing a reality.
sonder n. the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own-populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness-an epic story that continues invisibly around you like an anthill sprawling deep underground, with elaborate passageways to thousands of other lives that you’ll never know existed, in which you might appear only once, as an extra sipping coffee in the background, as a blur of traffic passing on the highway, as a lighted window at dusk.
Came here to say this. I was so engrossed in this and then looked at the playtime and realised it wasn’t going to go into the rebuild era of the timeline. I hope they plan on a part two as I would watch the hell out of it.
I fucking love you, man. You made me cry with the ending. I love you. And just in case anyone needs it, you are wanted, you are needed, and people love you, regardless of what you think of yourself. Try finding joy in life, try seeing life in a different perspective. You'll be stunned by how strong you are, even stronger than you think.
This video not only helped me to understand Eva + End of Eva more cohesively, but in doing so sparked something in me that i hadnt felt since originally watching them. As someone that constantly battles with similar problems as Shinji, even into my 20s, I sometimes lose sight of the message - that all of this is worth it. Life is worth it, not intrinsically but due to the opportunities it presents. Locking yourself off from life because it hurts ignores all of the good that can come with it, if you so choose to put effort toward it. Thank you for this video, you've earned a sub. ,✌️
Wow, what a stunning recap. This is award worthy work. This is the kind of thing you can only make through passion. No amount of commisions or money gets this video made with anywhere near the same feeling. Please keep making passionate work in any way that speaks to you!
I cant believe how deep this show is and how Shiniji still chose to deal with the pain he suffered even after all that happened and how the story is built theres no words to describe how much i loved the story and how hard it was for Shinji and all of these characters dealing with depression I’ve watched this like 3 times allready😅
About the Third Impact and its objective: it becomes apparent once you see what SEELE means: it's "soul" in German. The unification of all human souls into one being.
I noticed this too! I thought it was an interesting meta thing with SEELE being Soul, NERV being the mind/brain (NERV like nerves), but I wasn't sure what would represent the body in this case. Reality, I guess? The Soul wants to unite all souls The Mind wants to unite two specific souls (Gendo and Yui) The Body wants to uhh, understand, I guess? To exist and feel, both good and bad? That's the conclusion Shinji gets at the end with the post-instrumentality clarity. Though I suppose in terms of goals pre-instrumentality, Shinji wants to not exist at all, so I guess that would be the initial wish of the Body, assuming Shinji would represent the Body.
This video deserves 10x the attention it currently has. What a fantastically edited viewing experience and beautifully written script. I look forward to more videos from you!
The fact that shinji is sort of, the one who ends up being with the choice for individuality or instrumentality, is almost satisfying, i cant explain, but shinji finally having a choice that actually matters, makes me happy to see him have, at least in some part, a little bit of power
The shock on Ritsukos face when her mother over rules her self destruction code was heart wrenching. Honestly, one of my only gripes with the ‘new’ movies was the omission of the creation of the Magi and the various hacking attempts. I thought the whole premise was very well thought out
Like seriously, imagine you and your mom both get manipulated and used by the same guy, your mother literally ending it all because of the same man’s creation saying what he said, and yet still being betrayed by her. It sucks man. Especially since her brain is what’s powering the machine as well
I was going through so much in my life at the time I fist watched this series, probably about 10 years ago. I knew a related to a lot of of it but your video really broke it down and made me realize I needed a show like this at that time. Please make a part 2.
This got recommended to me out of nowhere and I must admit, I am happy with the discovery of this video and you as a content creator. Amount of effort put in this video is worthy much bigger numbers in terms of views and subscribers! Keep up the good work, it will pay off sooner or later ✅
I think the best way I could describe Evangelion's storyline.. and more or less Shinji's story is one of self growth and how depression stunts that growth. We see how Shinji does grow, but his depression keeps him from making any particular progress. He makes friends, he builds bonds, he sees pain and loss, he experiences rejection both from his father and his first love. He tries to come to understand what growing up means, where sexuality comes in and how that bond ignites. This entire tale is how one can make mistakes, be hurt, and needs to move forward despite all the pain. Shinji believes placating and helping other people. Following orders is far better than just being left to his own devices. But he doesn't realize that his blind obedience only orchestrates his downfall and digs a further pit into his soul. He fails to see he's not the only one in the world who is lonely, who is hurting, who desperately wants someone else to care for them. He is so consumed in his pain of self loathing and the pain of rejection; he fails to see the love offered by others. Only experiencing tastes of it from the angel of free will who gave him a bit of answers to his problems.
I have been pondering this story for 20+ years. It is an amazing work of art that dives deeper than I was ready for as a teenager. You laid out that crazy story masterfully and made clear so many things I still did not understand.
As an evangelion fan of the last 20 years, I deeply approve pf this video essay. It is by far the best and most eloquently produced summarization of the events of the series. I know this took ALOT of work to put together. Cheers to you.
After watching NGE and End of Evangelion i came out not understanding some things. This video gave me what i was missing. Thank you Sock Sensei for this beautiful video. And please do continue your work on Evangelion. I wanna know everything there is to know about it, it's such an intriguing and meaningful story.

Holy Shit.... this is literally the first time i understand evangelion and it's so amazing. I'm sorta speechless and in awed of the scope of both your project and the story itself. Also reliving the visceral feelings of watching nge's brutality but with much more clarity of their significance makes them so much better. What an amazing piece of media, cryptic and touching the human experience so deeply!
I put this anime off because of how many people would say it’s confusing and I honestly never had an ounce of an idea as to what it was about, but this video has actually left me rather speechless. I’m so happy to have watched this as this has shown me just how deep and interesting this anime truly is, I also love the story of Adam, Lilith, angels, souls, and machinery as I’m super passionate about anything of the sorts. I’ll definitely be giving this series, as well as the movies, all a watch in hopes of interpreting it in my own way!
I just finished the movie two hours ago, I was so confused I hopped onto TH-cam for an explanation. I felt like I understood the message of the series, but not fully. Your video really helped me to piece things together. This is a fantastic video, great work.
It's kind of funny looking back to about an hour ago when the most uncomfortable thing I knew about this show was the hospital scene with Shinji and Asuka. It almost feels unremarkable after hearing a summary of literally everything else.
46:58 i always assumed Misato was the off-screen character who killed him on NERV's orders and that her listening to the voicemail is just her grieving.
I think the reading is a little off. I assume it's just a random suited goon that we often see in the background (government or Seele) or if you want to say it was a named character it could have been Fuyutsuki but there isn't much to go off since he came to the rescue of Fuyutsuki earlier. During imitate scene between Misato and Kaji he states he has "one last gift for her", this could just be info or that she is no pregnant with his child (given some context because of the rebuilds), this was the last time she saw him and eludes to the fact he knew what was about to happen. We are also shown her getting picked up and taken to the lock up and given her gun back and told they don't know where Kaji is - it is implied at this point they took her to either use her a leverage against him or to stop her getting involved. She probably knows what is happening but can't keep it together any longer after she listens to his message. The theory that Misato killed him was also shot down by Anno himself during an old interview
I REALLY don't comment much but yooooooo. Your editing, vocal delivery, and script-writing are TRULY phenomenal. As someone who hasn't actually watched the whole show through since I first saw it in 2003 but who has never forgotten the way it made me feel, you managed to both remind me as an adult of why I need to revisit this show ASAP and also make me feel the same horror and immense depth of emotion that I first experienced in my childhood home's basement all those years ago. It's rare for a narrator to capture the vibe, story, and theme of a project so well it both supplements and adds to the experience of watching it yourself. Truly a masterclass in delivering a video essay and I'm so excited for the next one.
I’ve watched and rewatched Eva over the past 20 years now, every time I do i find something new or perceive it differently as I age and gain new perspectives and experiences, it’s a very complex watch and this video was masterful in your explanation of it, i even learned something new from your video. Bravo
Breathtaking synopsis. I've never seen the show because of how insane it all seems. But although it's still complex, you made it digestible. I think I have a series to see now. Thanks
I've never watched this anime, nor do I like animes like this. But this has awoken something I've hid from everyone for the fear of being see as weird or over the top. The story telling, the characters backstory and trauma, what everything means to each character and how they handle it with the help of each other. This is a beautiful work of art I've never thought existed outside of just my thoughts. Overall, I plan to wach this anime as soon as possible. I'll cry if I can't this year.
This is such an intense story and genuinely I don’t think I could stay sane while watching it on my own, thank you for making this video, I’m so glad I could in some way experience this story
Damn; like a cotton candy vendor, you spun all of the thoughts i had while watching Evangelion into a beatuiful creation. Looking at it all wrapped up like that, i feel more at peace with this show than i have in a long time ♥️ Thank you!!
I’m a huge fan of this series, I even got a half sleeve of unit 01, and I gotta say this is probably the best analysis of eva I’ve seen on TH-cam. Literally has all the best parts of the other analyses I’ve seen with some even new ideas thrown into there. Top tier
Thank you for this amazing review/explanation video. About 2 years ago was when I watched Evangelion for the first time and I remember crying at the end of the final episode because Shinji reminded me so much of myself and I was so happy to see him find happiness. I still struggle with having an insane fear of rejection and intimacy with others, even those in my household. But seeing this reminded me why I was so touched by this series in the first place, why I do what I do. Thank you. ***Please do a similar video on the Rebuild movies, it would be awesome if you do 🙏🏽
One of the coolest aspects of this video is the editing choices to revisit previous clips when mentioning the effects of that scene to keep things clear and easy to keep track of all the information that is being thrown at us. Well done.
I never really understood evangelian till now. I knew it was depressing; once I finished it, being left to feel its emotions, rationalize the ending and reconcile its views on existentialism with my own. But damn. You’ve brought this animes brilliance to a whole new light for me. Thank you.
Only 10 minutes in and this is undeniably the most thorough explanation of Evangelions lore I’ve ever come across. Excellent work and thank you for the video.
After watching this in its entirety, i’ve gotta say this was as good if not better than most popular channels in terms of production quality, pacing, story telling, editing, and all that other good stuff. I was super surprised to see that you had less than 10k subs. Great job man, keep it up and you’ll be big someday
I know Anno and his staff weren't christian, but I believe they were able to reach down into the human condition, namely the Total Depravity (Tulip) of man via Shinji, and depict something that was a mirror into the heart of God's creation.
The creators actually spoke about all the Christian symbolism. They thought it looked cool lol. Their own words- none of them are Christian and there was no deeper meaning, they literally just thought the imagery looked cool 😂
I wanted to watch something while i played games but i was so invested i stopped everything and watching this beautiful video made by you thank you make another part ASAP ❤
The prose writing here is deeply engaging and your recital has factual and objective feel to it, pair that with the choice of tracks that are somewhat quiet and subdued and you get style that's simultaneously calming yet enterrtaining.
For now I found only two videos that actually explain the story This video and a video made by Evangelion Analysis Project Edit: Also thanks for the video This video is a great way of explaining to new fans the story of the original Evangelion series
My first impression was that Misato was the one sent to end Ryoji. His reaction is that its someone he knows. She listens to the voicemail because she is in denial, then sobs because she cant escape what she's been forced into doing by Seele. I think i got thst impression because the scene before, shes released from her interrogation and handed back her sidearm - then we hear a gunshot in the next scene when Ryoji gets it. My brain wants to see that as "Checkov's Gun" and its difficult to see it any other way now.
Wow, I clearly had not understood EVA at all - thank you for it. I feel like my appreciation of the series has increased so much. Please make a sequel for the rebuild!
this struck such a deep cord with me. i tried so hard to understand the show but i only came up with lonleyness and pain and the similar thoughts and emotions of not wanting to be a burden so i push ppl away, while i want some kind of acceptance and affection. not willing to try out of knowing ill just disapoint, but also wanting someone to come along and lay down with me to lift me up gently. now for me after 14 years its muddied into why even body with affection when i know im going to be betrayed and hurt again and it all just be a negative experience to add to the list of memories. i never got to really understand EVA beyond the torment and mental instability that i thought was being caused by the angles like they was the chapters of doomsday. this work you have done has brought it all into perspective and focus that i understand on a deep level and connects with me and my past self of unexplainable feelings and thoughts of how this reality just isnt how i hoped life would be. i guess deep down i am simply depressed and lonely. i dont feel understood because of who and how i am is beyond just those words of, im lonley and i am depressed and i dont feel good enough for affection. i feel like i have no value to off someone to receive their affection. ive always had a weird draw to EVA, just wasnt able to put the peices together till now. years and years later. i guess happy late birthday to me, 35 really does suck, its like its all down hill from here, well really down hill from when i turned 25. it is what it is, bills gotta be paid, taxes gotta be surrendered, at the end of the day, who really cares if 1 in 8 billion disapears
i watched evangelion years ago, understood nothing except a deep feeling of disgust, the same feeling you get when you see someone die. recently, I saw this appear in my recommendations after years of the series being nothing but a lingering memory in my mind. when I decided to rewatch this, I remembered that feeling, a feeling of dread, disgust, and horror. the feeling still writhes in my gut as I'm writing this now. I can say, I understand the series a lot more post watching this beautiful take on this work of art. I want to scream. I want to throw up. I want a pet penguin that lives in my fridge. I watched the animated series in my local language in the Philippines when I was 14. I remember how the early episodes that featured battles against the angels were easy for me to understand. However, as the series explored what was happening in Shinji's mind, I became confused. I wasn't sure if I was still watching the same show or if there was an error in the episode, as those psychological themes were quite challenging for a 14-year-old, especially with the edits made by the local channel. I became a fan primarily because of the characters, Rei, Asuka, and Misato, not so much Shinji, whom I found frustrating. I viewed him as a wimp, someone who couldn’t be counted on. Now, 24 years later, and almost 40 years old I stumbled upon a video that prompted me to reflect on my journey. I realize that perhaps I’ve gone through my own character development, facing challenges and victories that have deepened my understanding of real-life struggles. I’ve come to empathize with what Shinji was experiencing. I am truly grateful to you, Sock Sensei. I was once a blind fan of EVA, captivated primarily by the characters, without fully appreciating the intricate story. Today, I can say confidently that it is my favorite anime, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you for making my EVA journey more meaningful after all these years. I genuinely appreciate it, my friend!

My favorite quote from this video.
@@WhitneyDahlinbro missed the point 💀
@@WhitneyDahlin I understand what you mean, but those things don't happen to everyone. the feelings shown here are able to happen to anyone, and because of others, or not having others, they occur. Those things are some of the worst possible feelings, but the meaning of both this explanation and show are that true loneliness is the worst emotion, and if it doesn't get better, it makes every human experience just another dreadful day to live. I agree, that depression and loneliness aren't the worst things that can happen, but they rip away humanity from those who undergo those emotions. (Sorry if I repeated things lol)

This anime helped me figure out my relationship with my father more than any amount of therapy. My father and I are two extremes of human nature : he fears loneliness so much he doesn't mind sinking in a spiral of miscommunication, manipulation and betrayal, as long as he's not alone. I'm a Christian and I didn't know this, so thats cool to know
I know this is an old comment, but I just need to correct you; the Roman soldier we call Longinus used his spear to ensure Jesus was already dead, not to mercy kill him; Jesus then bled "blood and water" from the spear wound, indicating He had been dead long enough for his blood to begin to separate.

The Soul wants to unite all souls
The Mind wants to unite two specific souls (Gendo and Yui)
The Body wants to uhh, understand, I guess? To exist and feel, both good and bad? That's the conclusion Shinji gets at the end with the post-instrumentality clarity. Though I suppose in terms of goals pre-instrumentality, Shinji wants to not exist at all, so I guess that would be the initial wish of the Body, assuming Shinji would represent the Body.
This video deserves 10x the attention it currently has. What a fantastically edited viewing experience and beautifully written script. I look forward to more videos from you!

I would count this as episode 27 just because you covered almost every aspect of importance to understanding this show.
This may be the best video of Evangelion I’ve ever seen

That just stupid.
same here!
I doubt NERV could trust Misato with killing Kaji

As a Christian, I gotta say that their use of Biblical concepts is very interesting and makes me happy
For real! And it isn't in an offensive way to us. And it also isn't preachy. This is really how religious symbolism in fiction should be like
I know Anno and his staff weren't christian, but I believe they were able to reach down into the human condition, namely the Total Depravity (Tulip) of man via Shinji, and depict something that was a mirror into the heart of God's creation.
@@yagopone7404 I think that's why he used christianity as its baseline or metaphor. The Bible is poetic and it fit Anno's poeticism
The creators actually spoke about all the Christian symbolism. They thought it looked cool lol. Their own words- none of them are Christian and there was no deeper meaning, they literally just thought the imagery looked cool 😂
I don’t think you understand Christian theology very well if you think this story has anything remotely to do with Christianity.
I wanted to watch something while i played games but i was so invested i stopped everything and watching this beautiful video made by you thank you make another part ASAP ❤
second parts on my channel if you're looking for it
The prose writing here is deeply engaging and your recital has factual and objective feel to it, pair that with the choice of tracks that are somewhat quiet and subdued and you get style that's simultaneously calming yet enterrtaining.
For now I found only two videos that actually explain the story
This video and a video made by Evangelion Analysis Project
Edit: Also thanks for the video
This video is a great way of explaining to new fans the story of the original Evangelion series
thank you!
Phenomenal editing and pacing, had me hooked through with the straight to point and smooth narration. Beautiful video
this struck such a deep cord with me.
i tried so hard to understand the show but i only came up with lonleyness and pain and the similar thoughts and emotions of not wanting to be a burden so i push ppl away, while i want some kind of acceptance and affection.
not willing to try out of knowing ill just disapoint, but also wanting someone to come along and lay down with me to lift me up gently.
now for me after 14 years its muddied into why even body with affection when i know im going to be betrayed and hurt again and it all just be a negative experience to add to the list of memories.
i never got to really understand EVA beyond the torment and mental instability that i thought was being caused by the angles like they was the chapters of doomsday.
this work you have done has brought it all into perspective and focus that i understand on a deep level and connects with me and my past self of unexplainable feelings and thoughts of how this reality just isnt how i hoped life would be.
i guess deep down i am simply depressed and lonely. i dont feel understood because of who and how i am is beyond just those words of, im lonley and i am depressed and i dont feel good enough for affection. i feel like i have no value to off someone to receive their affection.
ive always had a weird draw to EVA, just wasnt able to put the peices together till now. years and years later. i guess happy late birthday to me, 35 really does suck, its like its all down hill from here, well really down hill from when i turned 25.
it is what it is, bills gotta be paid, taxes gotta be surrendered, at the end of the day, who really cares if 1 in 8 billion disapears
i watched evangelion years ago, understood nothing except a deep feeling of disgust, the same feeling you get when you see someone die.
recently, I saw this appear in my recommendations after years of the series being nothing but a lingering memory in my mind.
when I decided to rewatch this, I remembered that feeling, a feeling of dread, disgust, and horror. the feeling still writhes in my gut as I'm writing this now.
I can say, I understand the series a lot more post watching this beautiful take on this work of art.
I want to scream.
I want to throw up.
I want a pet penguin that lives in my fridge.
I want to say thank you.
thank you for this hour long video on the terror of God.
Jesus Christ. I'm going to watch something fun now.
have a trauma free day please please please oh God please
AAAAAAAAAA THOSE CHILDREN DID NOT DESERVE THIS BUT ITS A WORK OF FICTION SO THESE CHILDREN ARE NOT REAL BUT STILL AAAAAAAA MY HEAD HURTS HER EYE THEY FELT ALL THAT THE EVAS WERE JUST LIKE BIG GUYS PEOPLE ARE MADE OF GOD GOOP GAAAAH
Shinji, crank that Soulja Boy
THIS is the video I've been looking for ever since I became obsessed with Eva! This deserves so many more views. Just subbed and can't wait for the rebuild video!
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I really respect the amount of effort you put into telling the story of this anime. It made me appreciate it so much more than I originally had. This is gonna be the most watched explanation of NGE, I'm sure of it. This video is too well made.
full disclosure: I only watched this because yoko taro said NGE was the biggest inspiration for nier and I wanted to better understand that. this video made the story very easy to digest, so thank you.
glad to help
I've been trying to understand this anime for years. After watching your video, not only do I finally have some clarity about the story but it made me love the anime even more. Loved the video, I can't wait to see more of them.
Easily the best, most in-depth, and detailed analysis of this extremely confusing mecha...
You a legend to me and probably many others that were left confused after this brain fuck of a show. Moreover you did it in outstanding fashion.
This shit was gold, thank you
I appreciate it!
I watched this anime about 20 years ago when I was a teenager, I loved it but didn’t 100% understand the story. I’ve just rewatched it and watched this video straight after. You’ve done a great job at dissecting the story. I wish TH-cam was around back then 😅
Felt like I had a solid grasp on this anime through the countless viewings of the anime and analysis video's similar to this one. Yet, I never gave much thought about where the angels came from or why they do what they do. So not only did I learn something new about this series, I had a blast watching the whole video. Have a like and subscribe, well deserved!
