    Got advice from an auto body expert because I didn't want to drill holes into my trunk lid to install the spoiler. First thing you need to do is to use sandpaper and rough up the bottom of the spoiler, Then you need to use a degreaser like R-M 900 to clean off the spoiler. Once that is done you need to use an adhesion promoter like 3M 4298 on the spoiler before sticking on the double sided tape. Make sure you try to cover as much of the spoiler with double stick tape as you can. DO NOT use the tape provided with the spoiler. Make sure you use 3M Super Strength Molding Tape it will say ideal for attaching vehicle body side moldings, trim and emblems. You also need to do these steps on the trunk lid. Use sandpaper or a brillo pad to rough up the paint on the trunk lid. You don't want to take off too much paint. Just scratch it up slightly. Clean with a degreaser, then use an adhesion promoter. Peel off all the double stick tape covering and place it on the trunk lid correctly the first time. Its best to use a second person to install because you only get one chance. Once the spoiler is on the trunk lid press down firmly and use a microfiber cloth to push down and move along the top of the spoiler to fully seat to the lid. Use a heat gun or blow dryer to heat up the tape along the edges of the spoiler. Wait 72 hours for the tape to fully cure before you drive in the rain or carwash. Your spoiler should stay on permanently now!!

      I am a molding specialist. I have installed over 5000 pieces in a 15yr time span. There is nothing wrong with the way this guy said to do it. The guy said to sand the clear coat or something like that don't want to go back and read what he said again LOL. That might be better than just putting the adhesive promoter but I never ever had sand the clear coat that would have been an extra step. It would have cost me more time but the other reason was all the cars that I worked on was brand new I work for several dealership and had several account so I could not do that yes it might be better to do that but in my opinion there is no need to do that. Using the adhesive promoter is good enough it should be good enough I have done thousands of cars sometime without the adhesive promoter and some time with it whenever I use the ahesive promoter I never rarely had problem. I highly recommend using the adhesion promoter. I will try to help you guys out and tell you how to do it if it was me. Using alcohol would not be an option for me it does not take off the grease and wax off your car. I use a grease and wax remover like prepsol clean the surface and then put on the adhesion Promoter on the surface off the trunk where the molding will go. Only put the adhesive promoter(ap) where The molding will go because you will see the ap if the spoiler is not covering where you put it on so only on the spot where the 3M tape will be making contact. Number two the hotter the better it will activate the 3M tape in my opinion anyting above 65 degrees is ideal. If the car trunk is facing the sun you can get away with even 55° cuz it will heat up the sun will make the trunk hot. So do it on a day where it is warm. Other than that you can follow the video he did pretty much everything I would do in the video except towards the end I will take a wet rag and put pressure as I slide it back and forth on the entire rear spoiler. One of us I would like to give is to not skip putting on the AP the AP really really really helps a lot to improve the bond. Also make sure the surface is clean and free of wax and grease very very important that is the reason why I use pretzel alcohol does not remove wax and grease like prepsol does. I do not know when I will come back to as a any one of your guys questions but if you do have a question you're more than welcome to ask me again I have installed over 5000 pieces in a 15-year. Working on mostly brand new cars out the showroom and some cars that was delivered. Now again there is nothing wrong with the way that the gentleman said to do it there is nothing wrong with sanding down to clear coat I believe that will make it stick much better but that is not necessary you do not need to do that that he's a promoter and the 3M tape is very very strong as far as in contact and they should hold the molding in place if done properly it can stay on your car for 10 years or 20. Now as far as the tape I believe the gentleman also set you can use a different type yes he is absolutely correct there are tapes much more better then the tape that is on the spoiler and I'm pretty sure I have a roll of the tape that he's talking about 3M makes many many different types of tape but to be honest I always use the tape that came with the molding it's good enough to use that take the only time I use the special sticky tape is when I'm doing a repair. Meaning if I worked on the car or someone else worked on the car and the molding came off when I take off the 3M tape off of that molding I put a fresh 3M tape on and the tape that I use is the one that he's describing. I usually call it the black 3M tape because the color of that tape is black vs Grey

      You don't need to really do any of this literally just get some 3m automotive double sided tape. Cover the whole thing in a few rows. Stick it on hold it down for a few minutes and boom you're good

    if your doing this deep in winter, with temps in the garage at under 4.0 degrees celcius (40 deg Fahrenheit)
    do you recommend using a hair dryer or a heat gun to go over at the end to help the glue on the double sided tape? or will that actually weaken and shorten its lifespan by doing so?

      @sgt-willkillu 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know this was a year ago but,
      I would heat up the boot lid metal to indoors summer temps(20°c) before fitting spoiler on, oh, & use a laser pointer style thermometer for accuracy. To hot might be as bad as to cold.

      on top of the double side tape, use 3m emblem and trim adhesive. put a nice line right down the middle of the spoiler. right in the middle of the double side tape. this will allow you to put the spoiler on the car while it sticks AND have about 20 to 30 seconds of very very slightly wiggle room to make VERY fine adjustments if you are a perfectionist like me. after about 50 seconds, it's about 75 percent dry. overnight, it's on their like cement. you can only take it off with a heat gun on high, so be sure you do this correctly

      There are types of sealents called a “neutral sealent” it doesn’t have the acids regular sealants have. I don’t know if that’s what they used, but regular silicon adhesives that aren’t a neutral type will eat paint and cause rust.

      3M adhesive tapes are about the best you can buy. The adhesive and material will last 10+ years in most conditions, and potentially longer in many cases. Many factory/OEM auto glass features installed on vehicles at the factory use 3M straps and adhesives.

      mnc365 Not if you install it correctly by first cleaning the surface with alcohol and then using pure silicone with the adhesive tape. And if the spoiler does fly off, which I highly doubt, it'll be at least 20 years down the road and you will have gotten rid of the car by then.

    • @chriscabrales2557
      @chriscabrales2557 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think that's the point of these new lightweight NO DRILL spoilers. They're pretty light and the 3M tape holds up securely. Some people just want to play around with their car's looks and sometimes change their minds on the style of spoiler they want on the car. Drilling would just leave ugly holes on trunk if you one day decide to go spoiler free.
