I fear that if Mario & Luigi get revived, we won't get Paper Mario RPGs again, so if i were to pick between having a new Mario & Luigi game and let Paper Mario return to being a zombie series with bad games again or let Mario & Luigi die so we get Paper Mario RPG games, then i choose the latter 😭
@@leomassafm160 Yeah but Mario RPG isn't gonna be a main stay, that's a one off remake, Paper Mario HAS to stay and be an RPG moving forward, if Mario & Luigi revives Tanabe will just make more shit Paper Mario games and tell us to play Mario & Luigi if we want Mario RPG games again 😭
Tbf Mario & Luigi already got remakes, only missing partners in time but I think it would be kinda weird to remake that one, if anything I'd say remake the one with the best chance of having success which would be Bowser's inside story again... which would also be weird since it's the most recent one... idk, if Mario & Luigi comes back id say it would be with a new game, not a remake
What I truly love about this reveal is that they revealed it as the last big title to show at the end of a Direct. Remember back when Color Splash was first revealed where it was just casually mentioned and talked about for like less than a minute before they just moved on like it was nothing. Now, here Nintendo is treating this like the huge deal that it actually is by saving it for last. They now KNOW that us fans love TTYD and just how important the Paper Mario series truly is as a whole.
4:26 “Sticker Star is sleeping in his grave, Chuggaconroy is piecing out next to it, Arlo is hitting the gritty on Color Splash’s coffin, I am JIG DANCIN all over Origami King’s den.” Bruh where do you come up with this Wordplay!?!
On the boss rush idea, it'd be awesome if the Glitz Pit functioned as that in the post-game, with Prince Mush as a secret boss at the end being even stronger than the Shadow Queen. Maybe not stronger than Bonetail, but stronger than anything before post-game.
I 100% AGREE! Nintendo absolutely knows how big this is... Like you said, this is the best opportuniy the fans have to show OG Paper Mario is SUPERIOR in almost every way! THIS IS IT PEOPLE! WE HAVE HAVE HUUUGE HOPE ONCE AGAIN! I still can't believe it... this paper mario journey has been a WILD ride! BEYOND excited for the results of this...
I felt bitter for years about the series, I accepted that nothing good would ever come of it again and Bug Fables was the next best thing we'd ever get. Even though it's just a remake, I couldn't help but shed a tear of happiness for the glimmer of hope Nintendo handed us. When SMRPG's Remake got announced I had it in the back of my mind "If this can happen, Paper Mario can too", and I was right! After this TTYD announcement and seeing all the reactions I went around and found some creators who were very in to SMRPG and they had reactions just as emotional at their game being brought back to life and I felt for them, I really hope this is a sign of Nintendo finally listening.
I love that the art style of TTYD is staying intact. PM 64 & TTYD were very pop-up book stylized. SS CS & TOK took a much more paper craft approach to the world. (SPM did it's own thing) So exciting.
I just want to say.. this was the only direct that ever made me cry and it was for TTYD remake. This game is so special to me and the reason I got into gaming. Playing it every time I’d visit my dads house and see how far I could go before going back home to my mom for months. This game literally was my childhood and brings back such great memories when my dad was alive. Playing it late at night with my sisters until we got in trouble for staying up. I remember when my sister got a orange Yoshi on her file and I got mad I got green- so many wonderful memories.. Literally one of the greatest games in my opinion. I cannot wait to replay this and see everyone else experience this game. I feel like a kid on Christmas.
I will gladly support the innitiative of bringing back OG Paper Mario, even if I'm not too familiar with the series myself. It feels like some people value this game equally to their lives so now I am too curious to see what the hype is about.
We won everyone... we finally won. TTYD HD IS REAL!!!!!😂🎉🥳 The greatest game of all time is finally being made accessible to modern audiences. Finally, the old guard fans and younger generations can finally unite on common ground and understand the true heart and soul of Paper Mario. Finally, Nintendo has accepted that embracing creativity outside of the mainline platformers matters and that it's important to the overall franchise health. Finally, Paper Mario is GREAT again!!!! And most importantly, they resisted the urge to neuter the atmosphere and presentation to make it stand in line with "modern" Mario games. Female Toads besides Toadette are back, and by extension kid Toads and proper Toad families. NPCs other than generic Toads are back, be they neutral members of enemy races, Doogeys, or anything else. The f*cking battle system is back with no dumb forced gimmick to make it "unique"!!! An E-rated game still has a noose in its central hub!!! Nintendo admitted that perfection should not be corrected and that this game deserves to be remembered as it always was! Everyone, seriously, BUY THIS GAME on its 20th anniversary! The sales figures of this game need to absolutely obliterate that of TOK for Nintendo to be certain that this is the proper path for the future of Paper Mario. Let the Mario RPGs be creative again! Let them innovate without restraint based on what the platformers are doing! Let Mario be known for conquering any genre, not just dabbling in them!!!
14:58 Or even just harder post-game boss rematches like Super Mario RPG is doing. I still can't believe that Nintendo actually remade Paper Mario TTYD - at most I expected a port or a remaster and even those would've been incredible in every sense of the word -... now it really is up to us to show that we care about it first and foremost by buying it (I've already preordered it), but also just by talking about it before and after it comes out! By the way, some additional details about this remake I noticed that you didn't mention: - the map in Mario's house being the Paper Mario 64 one; - being able to see the back of Goombella and Professor Frankly; - all the current partners on the blimp; - the effect when Mario gets cursed; - TEC with a red camera like in the Japanese version! Speaking of things you didn't mention, let's not forget about the Mario vs. Donkey Kong remake since it's of the first game in that series, i.e. with the same gameplay as the already phenomenal Donkey Kong '94 on Game Boy unlike all its sequels so I'd argue that's a renaissance as well if a smaller one!
This really gives me hope that the next paper mario could be a return to tradition. I loved Color Splash and Origami King, but we really need a modern paper mario game with a lot more creative freedom like The Thousand Year Door
I can safely say, this is easily the best position the Mario franchise has ever been in in its entire existence. We're truly looking at a Mario renaissance like no other. Between this, the Mario RPG and Dark Moon remakes, Peach's new game, Diddy and Funky finally getting into MK8, and literally everything else about the series right now, especially considering the nearly year-long drought we went through regarding new content for the series between mid-2022 and mid-2023, the series has never been in a better state, period.
As a non Paper Mario I can never understand what this means for you guys. But I have seen the love and passion (and toxicity but lets not talka about that) that og Paper Mario fans have and I'm willing to give this game a chance and see what all the hype is about
Well let me put it like this, imagine one of your favorite franchies's. It's putting out consistently amazing games in a row and it seems like the skies the limit for where it can go. Then the next game comes out and it completely changes the entire dna of that franchise and then the developers insist on doing that for the next few games despite it really pissing alot of core fans off. That's basically how Paper Mario's been treated for a long ass time now, that's not to say a series can't try new things but the idenity of it should always remain intact no matter what. I'm not a person who will take my dislike of decisions so far I cross boundaries, but if I need to call something out I damn sure will every time. Thousand Year Door had this series set to soar big but that came to a screeching halt that's been so frustrating to deal with. Intellegent systems lazy excuses and willfully ignoring people's critiques only made it more infuraiting. I don't know what changed but it's such a breath of fresh air and if all goes well this will get the series back on track.
@Cloud-dt6xb Even though I'm not a fan, I think the best example someone gave to acknowledge the change in trajectory is this. It was Paper Mario, but it became PAPER mario. Meaning that after the Wii game, they just focused purely on the paper aspect and not the Mario aspect
@@jcg7609I’ve always liked a metaphor that references Zelda, another popular and beloved Nintendo franchise: imagine that the release order was Zelda 1 (solid start); Link to the Past (absolute masterpiece, perfects formula); and then Zelda 2 (debatably still good but objectively worse than 1 and 2); then imagine the franchise just continues on with the new, inferior style forever. It would be a travesty, and destroy fans’ hearts. That’s exactly what happened with paper Mario
One of my Pipedreams is that they is play Luigi’s Story with the Marvelous Compass as a side quest or separate campaign, they got me good as a kid teasing me with Luigi’s Quest, I would read how his adventures went and I remember going into game stores and even asking if they had a Paper Luigi, however playing as Luigi in SPM was the next best thing.
I enjoyed all 6 of the games in the series, but I'm very happy for the people who hated the new direction the series took with this announcement. It's great that a whole new generation of people can enjoy this game now!
It's still truly unbelievable that how insanely timelines have managed to shift this much since about... 9 hours ago? Whew. A little tiddy from me, if you may: For as much as I've shown so much love to Paper Mario-series, and held them high inspirations on my personal way of exploring simplistic characters with more unique personalities and backstories than they seem alongside _sincere_ storytelling next to Duckverse-comics... I've actually never got to clear TTYD fully. I had grown with 64, and got my hands on Super many, many years later as well as clear it. Latter's gameplay was pretty mixed bag, which I kept enduring due how gripping the story and the characters in it was. Meanwhile I got to explore TTYD much later even after that via managing to hack my Wii to play GCN-games - where I'd played it a little bit up to Hooktail's castle, before setting the game down. This was still somewhere back around 2013:ish, before Sticker Star was announced, and ended such a huge wave of change to come for me so enthused to Mario's verse and open lore before. With how many games so settled on the "Mario Mandate" alongside Paper Mario changing so much before my eyes - and my personal woes of it falling on deaf or even dismissive ears on some social media platforms, it got only harder and harder for me to revisit TTYD in full, due how I kept feeling more depressed about the prospect of even playing throgh sweet romp through one of best Mario-RPGs, and maybe one of the best Mario-games ever made - on a series that was so, DEAD, *SET*, on never returning to form. With how I had also lost another beloved Mario RPG-series alongside it's developer making it, this was all the more set in stone. I wasn't really sure what'd have made it easier to do a full revisit. This was what I had long been used to along so many other old fans of Classic Paper Mario. Until now. I gotta say, it's like my birthday, about under two weeks from now, came very early to bring it's gifts for me with this Direct: an unexpected reunion with one of my childhood classics from DS's earliest days, my MKWii/Double Dash-main returning to Mario Kart after more than a decade of wait - and perhaps most of all, a long embittering memory gets a chance to be rebirthed to a more happier one. It's nothing short of miraculous. Can't really wait to pick this game up and finally experience all what it has to offer, especially with just how this picture-perfect remake polishing it to be the best it can be.
Oh man, where to begin with this... I suppose first of all, there was some initial confusion when we see the book and the music, then switching to the main theme from the first Paper Mario as we see a scenario that played out the same way in both the first two Paper Mario games, before getting a hard confirmation that this is, indeed, a remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. That music still perplexes me, though; Paper Mario 64's theme isn't in TTYD's OST, so why is it here? ...Could it be that this is actually a remake of the first two Paper Mario games?! Dare I even dream of such a scenario?! It makes some sense, given that Mario and Luigi's house resembles how it did in PM64 more than it did in TTYD (if you look at the two side-by-side, PM64 house had the back half with the blue roof, while TTYD's house doesn't) Next, I'm actually not one of those people who is angry about the white outlines on the characters in newer Paper Mario games; yeah, I prefer the old style, but it never bothered me THAT much. That said, thank GOD they didn't go that direction with this remake, the layered look from the original game looks so much better, especially with this level of detail. Same goes for the environments; while they already looked good in the original, this one really bridges the gap between papercraft and pop-up storybook aesthetics they were originally going for but didn't fully pull off. And I really appreciate the lighting shown off here, as opposed to the more static lighting the original had, particularly when Hooktail shows up. Speaking of detail, the characters aren't just dolled up for this remake, they made new sprites with new expressions for certain characters, and we even see certain characters backs as well! This makes the scene where the camera spins around Mario, Goombella, and Professor Frankly look so much better than it did originally, and it's just overall better attention to detail in general. It really is all about the details with a game like this, and some details I noticed were some changes in lines of dialogue, like Goombella being a junior in the University of Goom rather than simply being a student, Frankly saying the line about the Thousand-Year Door, and Bowser saying "lunkhead" instead of "airhead". It makes me wonder just how many changes are they going to make with this... at the very least, it doesn't seem like they're going to cut back on the darker details, since there's still a noose hanging in the middle of Rogueport, which really helps make this game feel unique and special among Mario's many games. And hey, there's also that one purple Toad in Glitzville that wasn't there in the original game, and I can't stress enough how adding this detail and design to characters is something I SORELY missed form modern Paper Mario games. The final thing the trailer ends on was the tease at Peach's subplot with TEC-XX, which honestly is one of the oddest aspects of TTYD that I don't think has aged all that well. We'll see how people react to how creepy things get with them, but for now, I'd like to point out that TEC's "eye" is red, like it was in the Japanese version of the original game; they changed it to green in all other version, presumably because they didn't want to remind people of the HAL 9000 with this character. This makes me wonder, will certain elements exclusive to the Japanese version of the original game be preserved in all regions with this remake? Dare I say, will Vivian's transgender status be more explicit in versions of the game outside the Japanese one (and apparently the Italian one)? I kind of hope so. I'll save my thoughts for the future of Paper Mario for another video. For now... God it feels good to see this classic get remade, not just so I can re-experience it again, but so that newer Paper Mario fans can finally see what people like me, SuperMarioT, Arlo, Chuggaaconroy, etc. are talking about whenever we talk about what Paper Mario *used* to be.
I'm 30 years old, and my first ever RPG was SMRPG on the original SNES that my older brother let me play, and then I went to playing the Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi games. So I've seen the ups and downs of Mario RPGs as a whole. After Bowser's Inside Story, nothing ever clicked for me, not even the Rabbids. But now we've come full circle. Two remakes of some of the best game in the franchise coming this year and next year is insane!! I hope these two games become the best selling games to send a message to Nintendo, Intelligent Systems, and even Square Enix that this is what we want!
Hopefully moving forward all future PM games will adopt TTYD's formula and expand upon it rather than just trying to reinvent or reject it. IF IT AIN'T BROKE
The oddest part about the trailer is the inclusion of the title theme from Paper Mario 64. Which makes you wonder, are they also simultaneously working on a 64 remake as well?
SMRPG remake gave me hope Paper Mario would return to form and even the new Peach game gave OG Paper Mario vibes and then TYD got revealed. This gotta mean the series is returning to form!
I mean this is good news and all I'll admit it but I cant say we've won yet. Just because TTYD got decent remake doesnt mean the next original game will be a return to form.
The Switch really has been just a bastion of dreams coming true, hasn't it? New Sandbox Mario, New Prime, Pikmin 4 got there eventually, new Luigi's mansion that's a return to form, Ridley, K Rool, Banjo, AND Sora in smash bros, New 2D Mario with more charm and originality than Mario has had in a while, The Mario Movie was actually good, Super Mario RPG remake, Super Mario Strikers, Full 3D Kirby game for the first time ever, New Princess Peach game, And now, For the first time in years, Paper Mario's future is looking brighter than it has in some time and there is actually a chance for it to come back. The Switch had it's droughts and it's ups and downs but now that we are seemingly reaching the Switch's swan song so to speak, looking back, i can't help but notice, all these things that during the Wii U era, i thought were impossible and Nintendo would never do again, and then the Switch came around and, even if some of them took a while and we had moments where it looked like my doubts had been confirmed, in the end so many of them were proven wrong in the best possible way.
8:50 I liked Color Splash very much, too. It had an interesting kind of exploration. You unlocked levels in different areas, but you often couldn't progress in one area until you made progress in a different one. It felt almost like a metroidvania. The battle system was only decent at best, I didn't really like it. But it's still the best in the modern Paper Mario trilogy. The ring based battle system was just the worst. When I did it right, it didn't feel like an accomplishment. It only felt bad when I wasn't able to solve a puzzle. And the punishment for not solving the puzzle was really bad. You didn't only attack less enemies, you also dealt less damage. A double punishment for not solving the puzzle. It would probably have been much better if there wasn't one perfect solution, but the enemies were sperad randomly, and different attacks were able to deal damage in specific ways. Even the rotations might be a special attack to line them up, but not the main gameplay. I'm sure this would have been much more interesting. It would have been a strategy game. Should I rather line up the enemies correctly, or should I do an attack, which attacks a whole ring, or an attack which attacks a whole line, or one which hits a 4×4 block, or one which randomly hits 8 fields, and I get the chance to rotate the lines during the attack to hit as many enemies as possible? At least in my mind it seems like a fun concept, which would work way better.
This is great for all Paper Mario fans really...once everyone actually plays TTYD they'll realize it ain't nostalgia or whatever and there will be more unity. And on the flip side, now TOK, Color Splash, and Sticker Star can be redeemed in a sense, since they can be appreciated and criticized for what they are rather than what they aren't. What a great day!
If it makes you feel any better, the Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door trailer is the most watched and liked video from the direct!!! I’m so excited for this game!!!
I’ve never even played TTYD but I shed tears during the reveal. Never played TTYD but I adore Super and the original and absolutely despise Origami King. I think it’s too early to call this a win for Paper Mario and we’ll just have to hope and pray Paper Mario 7 turns out well, but this is still monumental.
Wow I can hear the excitement… I heard Conroy & King of skill screaming from here. Despite already owning GC myself but what the hell you convinced me!
It’s also sad when IntSys couldn’t get permission new Mario character designs, when they are clearly capable of hiring great character designers with WarioWare and Fire Emblem (even the hated Fates has fire and memorable designs).
Although the SNES and N64 were my first systems, I still very proudly grew up in the GameCube/DS/Wii era. Sunshine, Double Dash, and TTYD are my trinity of nostalgia for not just games but basically media. This really does feel like a "too good to be true" announcement. The kind where you imagine it happening for fun, but never think of it actually happening. At least that's how I felt. Seriously can't wait to visit one of my biggest childhood THINGS ever. There's so many memories there, and (although most people would point to SPM for this) it has my favorite story in a Mario game as well. Also the visuals look incredible. PS: Spread the word, the Rogueport noose is still there.
I hope TTYD remastered has some new thing like Prince Mush SuperBoss, more Old Partner cameo and even Paper Luigi and The Marvelous Compass Expansion Pack, also i hope TTYD sell better than last 3 game so next Paper Mario game can goes back to RPG style with Unique Characters.
@@Yoshiinite I hope so, but it could just be they replaced the house theme with the main theme instead. Or it was done just for trailers (I can't imagine anywhere else it'd go). Or maybe it's a sign you can use the original partners in some way.
@@mrshmuga9 The original partners had scrapped content in the original TTYD, but it was like them appearing in places, i hope they at least give us that scrapped content, even if it's basically breadcrumbs
Like you I've been very critical of how the series has been handled since the release of Thousand year door. Oragmi King softened that a bit I did genuninely enjoy that game cause it seemed to have alot more effort put into it, but I still found myself giving up on the idea of every getting that classic style of paper mario back. So when I saw that book I was in shock, I did not expect it to happen at all and now it's like I see a future for Paper Mario. The only hurdle left is sales and I'm not worried Thousand year door was already an amazing game to play before getting a remake and now their adding alot of little touches to it that'll make it even more fun to play through.
I was able to get the original version from a flea market for about $20 back in 2009. That was an exciting time since I had only played the game as a demo at various Walmart and Meijer stores back in 2004.
(Sorry for the long comment, hopefully this isn't a pain to read) The mandates thing never made any sense to me. Miyamoto personally greenlit Mario + Rabbids with NO fuss and let Davide and his team do whatever they wanted with the Mario chars and enemies. They let Luigi dab and turned DK into a damn Rabbid. Miyamoto saw that and said "that shit is tight, let's do it." LOL. Whats more likely is that a combo of 3 things made IntSys wanna change the formula: 1. Fire Emblem sales skyrocketing with Awakening made it more profitable than Paper Mario. While Nintendo mostly owns the IP, IntSys is a actually a third party company (they're not even a SUBSIDIARY of Nintendo) and Fire Emblem is their own creation. It's the exact same situation with HAL Labs and Kirby. Paper Mario was likely always a way to keep Nintendo invested in IntSys and also use the Mario IP to help make money that could be funneled into Fire Emblem games. We can see this in action because as SOON as Awakening became a hit, Int Sys ramped up development of Fire Emblem mainline titles, remakes and spin offs, while they only released Paper Mario in FE's off years. Reminder that Awakening outsold PM64 and TTYD individually, and Three Houses outsold them both COMBINED, and then some. FE Heroes outlived EVERY other mobile Nintendo game and continues to be a success, too! 2. The team likely got tired of making the games creatively after TTYD. Super becoming the best selling game in the series cemented that they should use PM as a sort of quick, easy to make experimental franchise. 3. It is actually VERY expensive and time consuming to make high quality sprites. That probably became unsustainable especially in the move to HD for the very modest or even outright low budget these games receive. The reason they recolored the same body shape of Toad is cuz of that. Why spend all that time making an entire highly detailed handdrawn sprite sheet for 1 NPC Toad most players will forget about? Simply recoloring a Toad would give them time to work on other stuff like the level design and the aesthetics of the environments! And, once again, scaling back on the amount of unique sprites that need to be crafted aids in point #1. Spending less money on each Paper Mario likely means Nintendo would be more willing to increase the budget of their next bread-winning Fire Emblem installment. Not saying this justifies modern Paper Mario's lackluster aspects, but I think this is WHY that stuff happened. The BIGGEST reason any of these games "lost their charm" is cuz of time and budget constraints tightening as time went on. Even poor Alpha Dream succumbed to this, they stopped being able to cook up crazy sprite sheets for their games cuz they were running out of cash and Nintendo wouldn't help give them bigger budgets cuz of the dwindling sales after BiS. Hopefully this remake sells well and convinces both Nintendo and IntSys' board of directors that putting more money into Paper Mario is a good idea. I imagine if it lands around 3 or so million, that could do it
Say what you will about leakers I feel Pyoro deserves massive respect for not leaking or even slightly hinting at this just that the last announcement was going to be big and it was!😊😊
I would have liked a PM64 remake in addition to this as a collection of sorts, but I am still excited for this! Even if they add nothing new to the game at all and just have it be a straight port, I'll be satisfied. The fact that this game doesn't need anything added to it in a remake should say something about how polished it is.
I think it needs to at least outsell Origami King, which sits at 3 million. I think it's possible but every single person who has ever complained about the new games needs to buy it. I know I am. I still can't believe it!
I would be asking for too much but I'd love it if they implement the Paper Mario 1 partners to some form. Seeing that they all had unused data and sprites in the original (except for Parakarry and Bow), but I would DEFINITELY throw my money and pay DLC if they added them as extra partners you can purchase to use in the story. Or at least see them as mini bosses you can fight. I could see them stealing the major league ranks in Glitzville after you revisit the place later in the game.
Man getting an smrpg remake and now a ttyd remake thats insane. THEY COOKED GOOD LORD 🗿🗿🗿 Really looking forward to playing this game again and the graphics are very nice holy shit does this game look crispy 🤯🤯 Now as for mario & luigi...just please bring back the series. I doubt they'd do it rn for the switch but cmon if pm and smrpg can return then m&l can sure as hell can return as well (ik alphadream filed bankruptcy almost 4 yrs ago but they can still find a new studio). Perhaps they might consider bringing them back if smrpg and ttyd do well? I have trust in these remakes idc what yall say. Lets have all four rpg series coexist together
I really hope people buy this remake, I better not see 11 years of complaining, fighting and arguing just for it to sell a million or 2 copies. This should sell 5 million plus, no excuses. While I still think Paper Mario is in a crossroad, this is a huge W.
Hopefully it will sell really well, lots of new fans only have old fans hear say over this classic so I think most of them are very curious to see if this game lives up to all the hype compared to the new Paper Mario…which it definitely does!
I find it funny that you mention that corrin video because first time I watched it didn't subscribe, thought it was one of those random videos from channels those I never see again, if anything that video was the first time I saw you, while one of the Paper Mario videos was the time I met you.
Aaaand now I'm forcing my mom to beat Paper Mario 64 before this comes out so I can buy this one for her. I still think I'm a little too fresh off my last TTYD playthrough to want to buy and play it right now, but I still want to support this release as much as I can.
I still can't believe that Paper Mario the thousand year door is getting a full blown remake let alone even going back to its original form after everything this series has gone through technically starting with Super Paper Mario but sticker star and so on is what really changed Paper Mario for the worse but after so long it finally back to it classic forms that we originally loved it for. I have not been this hyped for a game since Mario Odyssey E3 Trailer and I could not be happier! This remake NEEDS to sell well for we can finally get a new Paper Mario in it classic form with no bullshit gimmicks being forced down our throats. If you haven't played this game yet, PLEASE BUY THIS GAME! TTYD isn't one of the best Mario RPGS ever made for nothing despite its biggest flaw being the backtracking which is roughly in about half the game but beside from that this game is amazing! And I could NOT recommend this game enough to anyone that interested in Mario RPGS in general. Really hope this game sell well even tho I played this game many times already DAY 1 INSTANT BUY for me!
I'm pre-ordering this game AS SOON AS I CAN, i can't freaking wait dude, and it's been an honor following you all these years, i remember going through all the downers with you, remember those awful interviews when Color Splash came out and then the Origami King interview with Tanabe? we had some DARK times. The Mario & Luigi series dying gave us this, and i'm sorry to the fans of that series, but i'm happy with Paper Mario being the main Mario rpg series, it should've never stopped being in that spot in the first place. I really hope this is Nintendo putting the effort to re-introduce Paper Mario as an RPG, and that all future Paper Mario games return to the original formula, PLEASEEEEEE.
Yknow even though i really m&l to return if paper Mario gets to go back to its roots as being a classic rpg like 64 and ttyd id take that. Still crossing Fingers for m&l to return despite the current Status it has 🤞🤞
This is a day one buy for me! I love this game so much, easily in my top ten favorite Mario games. It still feels like a dream, but it's not, it's real. An actual remake of TTYD! I will say as someone who loves Origami King, that game just doesn't compare to how godly TTYD is, and I implore anyone who's a Mario fan, or loves a great RPG to please check out this game. Best Direct ever and best game announcement ever revealed at a Direct! I don't care if that's biased, I'm one happy Mario fan! :)
i wonder if remake thousand year door held any sway over this if so thank you everyone who helped with that now if only i the boktai series could get a collection as well as megaman legegns/starforce collections
“Arlo is hitting the Griddy on Color Splash’s coffin” wasn’t something I knew I needed to hear until today.
All these remakes…. Mario and Luigi RPG’s I HAVE FAITH you’ll come back!
@@YoshiiniteI mean we're getting both Mario RPG and Paper Mario, so Mario & Luigi isn't completely out of the question.
Partners in Time is the perfect game to remake

“Sticker Star is sleeping in his grave,
Chuggaconroy is piecing out next to it,
Arlo is hitting the gritty on Color Splash’s coffin,
I am JIG DANCIN all over Origami King’s den.”
Bruh where do you come up with this Wordplay!?!
Ya'll better buy this game.
On the boss rush idea, it'd be awesome if the Glitz Pit functioned as that in the post-game, with Prince Mush as a secret boss at the end being even stronger than the Shadow Queen. Maybe not stronger than Bonetail, but stronger than anything before post-game.
Genius, big brain. Love this
I was convinced Prince Mush was a secret character the first time through. Went through the whole glitz pit expecting to fight him.
You just predicted what Nintendo did with Mush in The remake.
I hope this sells so much and Nintendo realizes that nobody wanted Sticker Star or Color Splash

It feels like a bit of a mixture of both styles which I think is the best of both worlds.
Spm is geometry and math, very yucky
I love how the stage props unfold like a pop-up book. It's so visually pleasing.
We won the battle, now I hope we don't lose the war.
This was a quote from SMRPG
I’m proud to be a not only a Mario fan but a paper Mario fan! The thousand year door is a masterpiece of a RPG!!
I will gladly support the innitiative of bringing back OG Paper Mario, even if I'm not too familiar with the series myself. It feels like some people value this game equally to their lives so now I am too curious to see what the hype is about.
All I need is Mario & Luigi RPGs to return and the triangle of Mario RPGS will be together for the first time. 🎉❤
We won everyone... we finally won.
TTYD HD IS REAL!!!!!😂🎉🥳
The greatest game of all time is finally being made accessible to modern audiences.
Thanos: *Plays Sticker Star and Color Splash* The fuck is this shit?! *grabs his gauntlet* Nope! *snaps away the bad new game and says, remake this!
mario fans are FEASTING right now :)
Now all I need is a Minecraft story mode season 3
14:58 Or even just harder post-game boss rematches like Super Mario RPG is doing.
I still can't believe that Nintendo actually remade Paper Mario TTYD - at most I expected a port or a remaster and even those would've been incredible in every sense of the word -... now it really is up to us to show that we care about it first and foremost by buying it (I've already preordered it), but also just by talking about it before and after it comes out!
By the way, some additional details about this remake I noticed that you didn't mention:
- the map in Mario's house being the Paper Mario 64 one;
- being able to see the back of Goombella and Professor Frankly;
- all the current partners on the blimp;
- the effect when Mario gets cursed;
- TEC with a red camera like in the Japanese version!
And an actual unique 2d Mario!
TTYD and Mario RPG both getting high profile remakes spells a bright future for Mario spinoffs
I honestly can’t believe we live in a reality where we’re getting a remake of thousand year door! I almost lost my voice when I saw Paper Mario
This is going to be my daughters first RPG, and it was mine when I was about her age! Coming full circle and I’m so excited
This gives me hope when the next new Paper Mario game comes out we will get a big step in the right direction instead of small baby steps.
I would love to see you stream that sh!t. Whitebeard is now saying THE THOUSAND YEAR DOOR IS REAL
Hopefully this game has influence over the future of the series instead of just being a remake where all the lessons are self-contained.
My favorite part of this video is "arlo is hitting the griddy on color splash's coffin" omfg
It's still truly unbelievable that how insanely timelines have managed to shift this much since about... 9 hours ago? Whew.
A little tiddy from me, if you may:
For as much as I've shown so much love to Paper Mario-series, and held them high inspirations on my personal way of exploring simplistic characters with more unique personalities and backstories than they seem alongside _sincere_ storytelling next to Duckverse-comics...
When I saw this announcement, I of course freaked out. But I also immediately thought of Arlo and you!
It makes some sense, given that Mario and Luigi's house resembles how it did in PM64 more than it did in TTYD (if you look at the two side-by-side, PM64 house had the back half with the blue roof, while TTYD's house doesn't)
Next, I'm actually not one of those people who is angry about the white outlines on the characters in newer Paper Mario games; yeah, I prefer the old style, but it never bothered me THAT much.
I think they flat out had to remake it because TTYD is not a game that works well forced into widescreen.
I really want to know what made them change their minds. Like they’re actually making good decisions now. What changed?
Hopefully moving forward all future PM games will adopt TTYD's formula and expand upon it rather than just trying to reinvent or reject it. IF IT AIN'T BROKE
The oddest part about the trailer is the inclusion of the title theme from Paper Mario 64. Which makes you wonder, are they also simultaneously working on a 64 remake as well?
SMRPG remake gave me hope Paper Mario would return to form and even the new Peach game gave OG Paper Mario vibes and then TYD got revealed. This gotta mean the series is returning to form!
Now for Mario & Luigi...
I mean this is good news and all I'll admit it but I cant say we've won yet. Just because TTYD got decent remake doesnt mean the next original game will be a return to form.
I knew that a TTYD remake would happen eventually… just wasn’t exactly expecting it to be now
i cant wait to hear crumps' speech sound
GUYS WE HAVE TO BUY IT, maybe theyll do super next!
There's no redeeming sticker star. That game is straight up bad.

I wonder if this remake means that they will start making new paper mario games with the old styles
I'm definitely taking edibles soon to celebrate
WE ARE SO BACK BRO
Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door was one of the few games that I actually 100% on the Gamecube.
Just checked. The original still goes for 150 to nearly 400 on Amazon.
I like that Nintendo knows how to smell money. We get great games out of it.
I was able to get the original version from a flea market for about $20 back in 2009. That was an exciting time since I had only played the game as a demo at various Walmart and Meijer stores back in 2004.
Now we just need the Switch revival of Metroid Prime 2!
toooooo excited to have this one back!!! I’ve still got my GameCube copy but can’t wait to add this to my switch library as well
(Sorry for the long comment, hopefully this isn't a pain to read)
The mandates thing never made any sense to me.
Whats more likely is that a combo of 3 things made IntSys wanna change the formula:
I imagine if it lands around 3 or so million, that could do it
Paper Mario is back and better than ever!
Im happily buying both mario rpg and paper mario. Wonderful year.
It clearly has some added stuff
I'll be honest, this was the first time that I popped off from an announcement.
I think it needs to at least outsell Origami King, which sits at 3 million. I think it's possible but every single person who has ever complained about the new games needs to buy it.

THEY COOKED GOOD LORD 🗿🗿🗿 Really looking forward to playing this game again and the graphics are very nice holy shit does this game look crispy 🤯🤯
Now as for mario & luigi...just please bring back the series.
Nintendo fans please help us get our Paper Mario back! It's such an amazing rpg, I dont want them to mess it up again.
YOU, MY BOY KNUX AND I HAVE BEEN EATING GOOD TODAY
AND I KNOW YOU PEEPED THAT ODA CONFIRMED SEASON 2 OF OPLA
I really hope people buy this remake, I better not see 11 years of complaining, fighting and arguing just for it to sell a million or 2 copies. This should sell 5 million plus, no excuses.
While I still think Paper Mario is in a crossroad, this is a huge W.
Think bigger. We need over 10 million sold.
Hopefully it will sell really well, lots of new fans only have old fans hear say over this classic so I think most of them are very curious to see if this game lives up to all the hype compared to the new Paper Mario…which it definitely does!
PAPER MARIO IS BACK BABY!
I find it funny that you mention that corrin video because first time I watched it didn't subscribe, thought it was one of those random videos from channels those I never see again, if anything that video was the first time I saw you, while one of the Paper Mario videos was the time I met you.
I mean Origami King was willing to tackle grief twice in the game.
THIS CANNOT BE I THOUGHT I WAS HAVING A DREAM LAST BUT THEN I JUST WOKE UP NOW AND ITS REAL!?!?
This is one of my favorite game of all time. I will be getting this game for the switch and super mwrio rpg for the switch too
I'm pre-ordering this game AS SOON AS I CAN, i can't freaking wait dude, and it's been an honor following you all these years, i remember going through all the downers with you, remember those awful interviews when Color Splash came out and then the Origami King interview with Tanabe? we had some DARK times.
Still crossing Fingers for m&l to return despite the current Status it has 🤞🤞
I'm still dreaming.........is this freaking REAL!!!???
😊 it is luckily!
Yeah yeah game looks pretty and all but..... THE MUSIC IS GOING TO BE SO DAMN GOOD
Hopefully we get a new game sooner than usual. It's been too long to just play a remake of a game I already own for 4 years
This is a day one buy for me! :)
For some reason i still dont belive this
Nah bro, I'm in a comma, and I DON'T wanna wake up
i wonder if remake thousand year door held any sway over this if so thank you everyone who helped with that now if only i the boktai series could get a collection as well as megaman legegns/starforce collections
