    Remember the 2008 Brit Open, at age 53 Greg lead the first 3 days, & finished 3rd. How many golfers have done that at that age. The man looked so fit, at 53, & today still looks way fit for his age.

    The Shark was snakebit more than any other great player. Yes, golf happens and it happened to him more than any of the other big names for whatever reason. Still a fine player who was dominant for a lengthy span in his prime. I do believe with better luck he would've been mentioned up there in the top 10 group instead of just on the cusp.

    Other reasons: Greg started golfing at 16 and he was a foreigner

    Ha! Typical ignorant US golf analyst....describing the Open Championship as "nice" but not the ones we care about.

      Well, its true. The masters and US Open are the two most prestigious. The Open and PGA Championship are great, but not as good as the other two. Every golfer wants a master's or US Open championship before the other two.

      In America the open is the third most prestigious major it's not a shot against anybody in Europe or the UK. Just in the US the Masters and the US Open mean more. It's more important than the PGA I think everybody agrees that's dead last

      Sports are so important in America that you end up with a lot of people commenting on golf that don't know the sport.

    His short game was no good when it really mattered. Look at the 1996 Masters - going short at Number 9, 3 putting from 6 feet at Number 11, water and Number 12 and Number 16.

    I agree .. It was mental #right miss under pressure ... And over and over made errors by being way to over aggressive . Loved watching him but damn the shark ain't no tiger or jack ..

    Norman is the most unlucky golfer in the history of the game. I'm not buying the rest of the list however. Bigger issues for Norman was he played that Tour Edition golf ball in the 80's that spun completely out of control. He couldn't control his wedges with that ball and it cost him several victories. Another issue was Greg's course management. He got overly aggressive at times when he didn't need to and it cost him wins.

    Terrible failure: 2majors, 83 tournaments, fame , fortune & wine , women & song. Non entities (except Jack !) queuing up to disrespect him. Norm’s a legend, plain & simple.

    Stopped watching when that clown said nobody cared about the open. It’s the biggest and first major. I’d rather win the open once than 3 pgas.

    Greg Norman was not good he was great & I’m a US Golf fan. He’s not a choker cause he had bad luck Tway & especially Larry Mize drilled legendary shots he did nothing wrong in those cases & everything right he lost it happens.

    Probably the most talented golfer we've ever seen, but he had a head problem. And yes, he should have won multiple majors, and yes, he is entirely to blame because he choked again and again and again.

  • @andrewrobinson8305
    @andrewrobinson8305 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I never liked the tight, flat, rounded swing that Butch Harmon gave him.
    It was efficient & repeatable, but his swing lost its natural flow & rhythm - and that was a problem in high pressure situations.
    Norman himself admitted in late-96 hat he had never felt entirely comfortable with it.

  • @lazydynamite88

    Disrespectful to 'THE OPEN'...Disrespectful to 'Nick Faldo'.......yes Faldo was difficult to play with under pressure because he was bloody good....Not because he was slow.He wasn't going to give you any help or make you feel better.Now I like Greg Norman and of course he should have won more majors.However talk of 10majors and him being up there with Jack and Tiger is nonsense.You are what you are .Greg won two fantastic Open championships which in my opinion IS the greatest major of them all.He is not even half the player Faldo was let alone Tiger or Jack.

    • @andrewrobinson8305
      @andrewrobinson8305 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’re right about Faldo’s pace of play being a non-issue.
      You want to play fast to get your momentum going? Too bad - your playing partner has no obligation to go at the speed you want!
      However Norman, despite winning four fewer majors, was undeniably a better player than Faldo.
      I like Faldo, but Norman had 330 weeks as World No.1 (to Faldo’s 97). And Faldo arguably got gifted most of his majors - Norman never got the good breaks Faldo got.

    • @lazydynamite88
      @lazydynamite88 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andrewrobinson8305 Saying Faldo got gifted his majors is lazy and wrong..Just about every major has a player with a huge 'what if' story.Majors have always been the supreme test.That's why they define a career.Also Faldo played his prime years on the European tour and it was much harder to collect the required ranking points to be world number one.He eventually went full time in america when he was on the decline...You could argue that Norman was a more gifted player than Faldo but not that he was a better player.Because he was not.

    • @christopherfranklin972
      @christopherfranklin972 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lazydynamite88 Well said Mark,this whole thing characterises the way that Norman was viewed in America yet he simply played himself out of contention on so many occasions,his destiny was in his own hands and he blew it.
      The Faldo 'slow play' thing is a joke when you look at Jack Nicklaus who was possibly the most 'deliberate' player ever and Tiger Woods who has done as he pleases and spent eternities preparing for shots.

    • @johnr9528
      @johnr9528 ปีที่แล้ว

      He's definitely more than half the player Faldo was historically. Faldo was great...so was Norman. The 3 putt Scott Hoch made at the Masters in the playoffs to lose to Faldo - specifically the 2 footer that lipped out which would have won it for Hoch - it would NEVER have happened if Hoch was in a playoff with Norman. Hoch would have either hit it in the cup from 200 yards out, or birdied it from a 6 foot deep sand trap with the ball moving 20 MPH as it hit the flag to drop in for birdie...

    My top 3 favorite golfers. Arnold Palmer , Tiger, and The Shark. When I make my avatar I favor the Shark by far. He is the best golfer in my lifetime.. If you wan't to call me a chock master, call me Greg Norman. My best score while cheating is a 99. He is fun to watch. He is human, all my avatars , wear Newman's clothes. The Shark!

  • @craigbiddy

    Firstly Greg's swing looks nothing like Jacks, having one of the most power hips in golf, & more upright. The man could drive a 3 wood regularly over 300m. The only person who could match that nowadays would be Stenson. When you lose 2 or 3 Majors to basically lucky shots, there never is a defence against that, you just have to suck it up & move on. This man was consistently in the top 5 at most of the tournaments he entered. No Jack, Tiger, Snead, or Palmer have achieved that. To do that in golf is a feat no other has achieved. Tiger took Greg's record of consecutive weeks at Nº.1, which he did because he had won more majors in that period. However if you look at all the other tournaments Tiger entered, he was not consistently staying in the Top 10 even. Majors win you more points basically. Greg's consistency is by far the best of any Nº.1 golfer there has been. Sometimes luck just doesn't go your way in the majors, & that is golf. Like the guy said Jack lost the Majors 19 times for him to be able to win 18 Majors.

      Norman wasn’t even as good as guys like Els and Mcilory. To suggest he is even in the same league as Jack/Tiger should put you into a mental hospital.
