true, mostly because they were always smart and had interesting things to say, they could have 3,4 minute monologues and you would listen because you would know that it is that good

probably the best duo, so grateful that they got to travel for this few episodes at the beginning of season 5 and show us how smart they were, how much they started to trust each other and man, just how good advisers they were

Everything that varys described to be an ideal ruler doesnt apply to bran. I really dont know how anyone could think that bran is the best choice.
Entirety of the time Bran was playing the game of thrones. He warged into Dany to burn down Kings Landing. He even said to Tyrion “Why do you think I came all the way to Kings Landing?” All other were puppets in his game.

They were drawing from a book only plot that they never did, likely because they wanted to finish the series quickly. They did not have time to introduce the characters that would make varys intentions with these statements make sense.

Thinking back, this was the start of the end. Removing Aegon who is becoming a huge deal in the books and trying to make Varys's plan about supporting Daenerys meant D&D had to keep writing the clever characters themselves. And they are not clever writers.
It was downhill from Season 5 for sure.
There is no mention of jon as targaryen in books

I just started the recovery process. House of the Dragon is amazing, and prompted me to rewatch old episodes. The first two (4x9 and 4x10) made me cry (tears of joy). I see good times ahead. We are back to Westeros. It feels like home. I like being there.

Even knowing how it ends, I get chills when Varys says "Who said anything about him" and the music starts.
Then of course Tyrion's deadpan reply (he did NOT get chills) 😂

It was Varys who wanted Danerys to get the Iron throne and it was him who realized that this was a mistake
These two used to have top , quality conversations....
This scene is what keep me invested and hoping that it would be Tyrion who ends up being the King at the end. A poetic journey that will prove his family and those who underestimated him.
He was a brilliant character but not really the one who should have been the King. Sitting on the Iron Throne wasn’t about who deserves it or as a reward to the character being good. It was about who is capable to rule. Tyrion has a great potential but lacks many things to be a King especially how they butchered him from an intelligent man to a fool in season 7 and 8.

The way Varys spoke- it sounded like he was serving a higher power. Would’ve been cool if it was revealed he was a many faced man, or a secret red priest.
But in reality, he did serve a power grader than himself. Though it was not a God, it was the entire lowborn population. They suffered the most under the reign of cruel, lords, and even crueler kings.
The only reason why Lowborn individuals would care who would sit on a throne or be their lead Lord, as if they get something out of it.

Now I am convinced Varys is one of a few positive characters
Varys was a true patriot. He is a pragmatist, willing to do terrible things when nesseceary.
But he was one of the few whose intentions were truly selfless.
You can say that varys is the real mvp in game of thrones he orchestrated all and know what gonna happened next.

I did like Varys and his powerful presence with worldly wisdom, he played the same game as little finger but had honourable intentions that cost him his life.
Which is absolute nonsense considering how deep Varys' game is in the books. He is the true incarnation of slyness. He basically is trying to distablise the realm so that his own pretender gets the throne, nothing more.
They turned him into a do gooder in the show, because he was convenient in such a role in the plot, a man who has knowledge about any political situations and no direct affiliations with anyone
we'll see if he survives in 'Winds of Winter' hopefully

Tyrion would never be the cause of Varys death, the bond of this two is more than friend, but brotherhood, the writing really off the rail when they decided to make Varys died because of Tyrion snitching him.

Gods the writing was still strong by season 5. It was real dialogue. Not the characters believing lies openly.

Varys was the cold, calculating, logical heart of the entire story. Everyone else allowed their emotions to cloud their judgment, ultimately leading to the avoidable deaths of thousands.
Funny how this played out - Tyrion did outlast every single one of Danys advisors, and was the key player in putting Bran on the throne, finally achieving some semblance of peace. Meaning, Varys made the correct choice here!

Good dialog writing, good drama. Good cinemagraphics... but the drama gets written into a corner and then some miracle happens and all the ice walkers drop dead, etc. It's even in the books... Suddenly ever faction has a dragon except the Iron Born, who have a magic dragon horn.
Man, the writing was SO good back then.

Varys is pretty wise and has his spies everywhere. How could he have been so wrong about Dany?
Varys is smart but he is somewhat blindly loyal to the Targaryens. Blackfyre or not.

For me, I enjoyed the slow burn of the series. Not rushing through dialogue, always wondering what the other was up to. Having characters be fleshed out so you were more interested in them. The series could have gone 10-12 seasons and I would have been happy if they kept it that way instead of killing off characters they spent 7 seasons building.
Funny how after Tommen jumped and Stannis died, Cersei is the usurper of Dany/Jon who have the strongest claim based on closest relation to house Baratheon
