This song has the most profound lyrics I've heard. "And in my darkest moments, fetal and weeping. The moon tells me a secret, my confidant. "As full and brought as I am, this light is not my own and a million light reflections pass over me." The source is bright and endless, she resuscitates the hopeless. Without her we are lifeless satellites drifting." It just moves me man. Every damn time.
I agree wholeheartedly, it is a beautiful little piece. Out of the three, it is probably my favourite, even though it's not very long. There is something very rapturous about it, and uplifting, even though it appears relatively understated. My only criticism would be, that Reflection and Triad don't seem to be particularly related musically to Disposition. It had me feeling a little let down when I first heard the three, not because Reflection or Triad are bad songs, but because they are such a departure from the atmosphere and development Disposition laid the groundwork for.
I was fortunate enough to see these three played live during this album's tour, and then they closed the show with Lateralus. They had the supporting band's member come out and jam along with Triad as an ensemble. What a memory!
That's awesome. I saw Tool when I was 13 or 14 with my Dad on the Lateralus tour. They came to my home town a couple of hours south of Sydney, Australia and haven't been back since, we don't often get rock bands that big here it was kind of strange. It was my first proper rock gig and absolutly blew my mind along with the album when it came out. I feel so lucky I got to experience that gig.
@@deanwolfechannel The Lateralus tours had supporting acts from Meshuggah and Fantomas. I'm not sure about Fantomas but Meshuggah's drummer, Tomas Haake, definitely played along with Danny on a couple of the sets featuring the Holy Trinity.
@@TheChazz1225 I saw them that tour, too (with Fantomas supporting). Dave Lombardo did come out and play along on Roto-Toms during 'Triad' when I saw them. I can't remember if anyone else also came out during that song, but they might have.
You are so respectful to the music, I really appreciate your way of describing your thoughts without talking or pausing the music. I can't stand it when I watch reactors that have an attention span of a chihuahua and just talk throughout key moments and pause it every minute. Very good choice as well, this is one of my favorite Tool performances, just meditative and beautiful.
Triad needs at least a couple hundred listens before you really get it. One of my favourite tool songs, and I love how in this trio of songs it sits at the end and just rips your face off.
gods I forget how good this trio is. full body shivers like a dozen times throughout. "So let the light touch you, so let the words spill through, and let them pass right through, bringing out our hope and reason!"
Hey, Dean! I don't usually comment on your Part 1 videos, but I have so much to say about this particular reaction video duo. First of all, may I just say sir, that you mouthing the words "I love that" after Maynard's moon secret line in Reflection was sexy as hell. ☺️ Ahem. Moving on: Your comment about Tool's vocals often being recorded "naked", sounding humble and honest really nails the power of Maynard's emotional range in singing. To me, his vocal work as a whole (A Perfect Circle and Puscifer included) illustrates what it truly means to be a man. At times bold and strong, at times full of rage, yet at times also vulnerable, unsure, and in pain. He encapsulates the entire range from abused child to flippant teen, to horny man, to leader, artist, father, preacher, comedian, addict, teacher, farmer, warrior, lover, disgruntled asshole, friend, lost soul, and philosopher. He creates a mood and unlocks emotions you sometimes didn't even know you had. The raw, unashamed vulnerability he can portray is humbling. And yet he can also do sarcastic asshattery and bench-press-1,000 rage screams. One recent tune that shows some of that versatility is "The Doomed" by A Perfect Circle. I highly recommend it. 😉
I love watching what these 3 songs were doing to you! Towards the end of Disposition, it looked like you were in a sort of meditative state. In Reflection, it was like you woke up a different part of yourself. At the end, you were rocking out with Triad. Amazing!
When I was 17 I hadn't done mushrooms before and didn't know the proper dose, so I took 10 grams and pressed play on a CD that had this trio on it. I left this world about an hour later and found myself following Maynard through an endless blue portal that was intricate and covered in moving hieroglyphics for most of that night. He kept whispering for me to follow and I struggled to keep up. I never made it to the end of that shimmering blue portal but for years afterwards I certainly felt like I'd been transported to another dimension entirely. If you told me my body was missing from this world during that experience I'd have believed you.
I just want to reiterate (I think I've made this comment on some of your other videos) that I've totally enjoyed watching and listening to your reactions to Tool's catalogue. This trilogy is among the pinnacle of their work to me. It highlights one of the strongest things about Tool, in my opinion: they can do so much with so little. From just a handful of ideas they can put forth more than 20 minutes of music, and keep it sounding interesting, alive, and engaging. A truly gifted group of musicians they are, and they make the most of each member's strengths.
Triad is still one of my fave Tool songs, so damn fun to play live with a band; I would start playing this on open jam nights, everyone knows it and joins in, but whomevers half-stack I was using: "If you blow my amp w/feedback you're fucking paying for it, just know that!" -hahaha! [Mesa Boogie dual-rectifier does incredible feedback btw =]
I've listened to this song hundreds, if not thousands, of times. Not until today did I realize how similar the bass tone is to Weak And Powerless by APC. Thanks for doing this; love to see someone experience one of my favorites for the first time.
You have music and then you have Tool. ❤️ I feel rich to have this band in my life. Words don’t do justice to this phenomena. Earlier today I listened to the demoversion of Sober, dating back to the early 90s. Already then could you hear that this band is special. Such a tool for joy this band🙏🏻 Love this reaction! Thank you! A request; You’ve done At The Bottom, by the mighty Leprous. I would love to see your reaction to Rewind or The Sky Is Red (so many other good alternatives so feel free to choose). Being about as old as Dean I also went a while without listening to new bands... about a few years ago I did start listening and learned of many great bands especially that of the Doom Genre (Acid Mammoth).... that being said I have followed Tool since the early 90's and have seen them several times live which is also an incredible experience. The best thing to ever happen to me was the Lateralus album which changed my life forever. It introduced me to Sacred Geometry as well as other discoveries as I go off into a meditated state (I'm drug free) while listening and if I had to choose one song that changed my life the most if would be Reflection.... without that song I might not still be here now typing this. The Holy Trinity is amazing especially live. I wish one day that Tool would release live video but until then we are stuck with what we have. I would be curious to see Dean react to some of Tool's video's that they have released such as Parabola, Schism, Vicarious........
Hello, Dean. Thank you for posting this and taking the time for listening to this three part song. In times like these, our attention capacities are pushed to the extreme. It's interesting that this begins with a calm message. I would often use disposition to accompany a rainy day or a 'rainy mood.' I would love to see you talk about the prog greats and the shift to today's greats. Pink Floyd, Rush, Yes; you name it. But prog implies that we use and adapt music for our imagination. Sorry, I'm a tad drunk. Stay safe, everyone! We're going to see beautiful things come from this chaos.
I'm planning some video ideas beyond react. Maybe some in depth analysis and research etc. Including on topics like did the Beatles accidentally pioneer prog and concept albums?
