Marshall JCM 2000 - The Workhorse

- I bought this JCM 2000 because I've never played one. If you understand the concept behind it then it is a very multi-faceted amplifier. Very good clean and crunchy sounds for every kind of production. Except metal :-)

There was a Russian tube amp Builder in the 90s who were quite well known Called Petersburg Amps and Jimmy Page Played them from 1995 to 2001 and used them for some songs during the 2007 Zep Reunion show .
They sound great and are a cross between a Marshall Plexi and an old Hiwatt DR 103.

Crunch Channel Plus an SD-1 is a classic combo . Something about an SD-1 and Marshall that just creates that sound.
Yesterday Premier Guitar dropped the Extreme Rig rundown and this amp is what Nuno B was using.

I own a 2005 100 watter...great amp. Loaded with EH 6CA7's at the moment, decent tubes but I miss the tone of the EL34's in it. Great playing man, god bless.

Please help when you see this , any suggested setings ?? I wamt to try using the amp 100% first before going down the route of hitting it with pedala because the amp comes with a LOT of gain on tap i dont see how a TS9 or SD1 is really needed when the amp comes with distortion ? Maybe you can explain more. You sound just like michael schenkers tone and vibe here when you started to really rock out. Mine just doenst sound like this i dont get a " fat" hard rock sound in the room when playing at all its pretty harsh and bitey and thats with my 2 les pauls which arent insanely "bright" guitars wondering what else I could do ??

try to turn treble, mid and presence down. it‘s a fine line between to much or not enough. in an interview nuno bettencourt says he has everything on 2 only the bass on 4. and he uses the rat for tightness and boost. but the amp is realy cool.

I had one years ago. I found it good, bbut not great (My first Marshall was a plexy full stack in 1972).
I sold it to go through many other models, till I got a 1976 SuperBass. Great amp.
But in the years, having changed many different Marshall cabinets, I think I found the reason why I couldn’t get my tone with the DSL: SPEAKERS!!!
I had a 90s cab with those horrible standard Celestions. Greenbacks make your head sing (I also have another 1960 cab, the Jimi Hendrix series with special made Greenbacks. This one sounds even better!) I am curious to test a DSL head whith my cabs, but I’m sure it will be days and night
true, got a 70 cab wirh 30, every amp sounds better now.
