  • The Everest Base Camp trek on the south side, at an elevation of 5,364 m (17,598 ft), is one of the most popular trekking routes in the Himalayas and about 40,000 people per year make the trek there from Lukla airport. Trekkers usually fly from Kathmandu to Lukla to save time and energy before beginning the trek to the base camp. However, trekking to Lukla is possible. There are no roads from Kathmandu to Lukla and as a result, the only method of transporting large and heavy goods is by plane.

    In your itinerary you go both up and down via Tengboche for no apparent reason. There is a much more impressive High Scenic Trail on the opposite side of the valley which goes Namche - Mong La - Phortse - Pangpoche, and everybody should hike up using that route and return via Tengboche. The views are simply amazing from there and there is also a lot of wildlife like musk deer and Himalayan Tahr. Thus your day 5) would be Namche to Mong La, lunch, continue to Phortse for the night. Day 6) Phortse to upper Pangpoche, lunch, visit monastery, continue to Dingboche for the night. Mong La has the best views of any point in Khumbu, by the way.

      @@ChetanShende I have walked the Phortse High Route five times since 1998, the trail has been there for centuries. For some strange reason Nepalese guides and agencies ignore it and just offer the same same Tengboche trail to their customers, thus this better option gets no publicity. Recently some more progressive western agencies (some very famous ones included) have finally started using it on the way up when it is most impressive. Independent trekkers should look at paper maps also showing all the available trails, not just electronic ones which show only what everybody else has been doing.

    Thanks for this. Would you think, an additional night at monjo will help with the steep climb before Namche?
    How long did it take between phakding and namche?

    • @ChetanShende
      @ChetanShende  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you have spare days u can spend a in Monjo…or u can go Lukla to Monjo on same day…but going gradually is the Key for acclamatization…if your speed is good u can cover Phakding to Namche in 5-6 hrs or slowly slowly 7-8 hrs including lunch break…if you are planning Phakding to Namche I would suggest start early in the morning..

    • @ChetanShende
      @ChetanShende  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HemaDRealtor No I haven’t touch Diamox at all..Remember Diamox is preventive, and not for cure..once u catch AMS there is no use of taking diamox… only decent at lower altitude is the cure..if u think ur body can’t acclamatize quickly in mountains then u have to start taking Dismox 48 hrs before entering into mountains…

    • @karipintakivi9153
      @karipintakivi9153 ปีที่แล้ว

      Phakding and Monjo are at about same level and still too low to much affect acclimatisation. My recommendation is to hike Lukla - Monjo (easy in one day), that makes the next day climb to Namche easier. I have actually walked Lukla - Namche also in one day a few times, not impossible for fit persons.
