  • The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic provides another opportunity to familiarize ourselves with the gift of the Daily Office, whereby Christians are able to pray liturgically "together" as the body of Christ, even though we may be physically separated. We hope this introduction and short guide from Fr. Doran Stambaugh can help you in your prayer life.

I am an Indonesian Roman Catholic but I say both mp, ep, and try to say noon and compline. And this devotion has tremendous impact to my spiritual life.

@ContriteBlackCatholicYes I think the 1979 Episcopal BCP is very easy to follow. Now I create my own MP and EP, based from 1979 but adding materials from several BCPs on the internet. I use ACNA 2019 daily office lectionary.

Today I learned: I've been saying "collects" wrong. I've never heard anyone say it out loud!

Thank you!!! My parish is saying Morning Prayer on Sunday’s using the Eucharistic propers and I’m glad I can share this with them to explain better what we’re doing as we’re feasting on the word.

Thank you I’m reading/praying through the 1662 page by page at the moment but nice to have a clear explanation of how it was intended for use.

I admire your efforts to popularize the Prayer of the Hours, a/k/a Divine Office. One issue I would take: you seem to assume the Prayer of the Hours is done privately. In Jewish tradition, the Prayer of the Hours can only be done by the community, or at least a minimum of of 10 members (a "minion") of the community. Granted Jesus may have reduced the minimum number to two or three: "Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there in the midst of them." But the Prayer of the Hours is, by definition, communal prayer, not private prayer.

Thank you for the explanation. I’m trying to push past a rather dry season I’ve experienced with prayer, so this seems like a really interesting way to go. Plus your friendliness convinced me! Thanks again 🙏🏽

Learned about "The Daily Office" from reading the book "The Vow" by Ed Gungor. Great video. I didn't know what The Daily Office was.
