I ended up here even though I'm a Catholic 😅 The differences: Catholic religious and priests pray seven times a day (two of the hours in the morning were squeezed together). To them this is an obligation. A layman like me have no obligation to pray any of the hours. But because we work all day, praying twice is like "good enough" due to our state in life (we're supposed to work all day and sanctify our day doing our other obligations. Usually laypeople like me (when they have this devotion) pray morning (laudes) and evening (vespers). I usually pray the last one before going to sleep (called complines). This one start with an examination of conscience (to remember what sins you committed so you can ask God for forgiveness), and it ends with you asking the Lord to give you a good night of rest and a holy death in the end of your life. (The idea is that just in case you die in your sleep, you're in peace with the Lord).

I admire your efforts to popularize the Prayer of the Hours, a/k/a Divine Office. One issue I would take: you seem to assume the Prayer of the Hours is done privately. In Jewish tradition, the Prayer of the Hours can only be done by the community, or at least a minimum of of 10 members (a "minion") of the community. Granted Jesus may have reduced the minimum number to two or three: "Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there in the midst of them." But the Prayer of the Hours is, by definition, communal prayer, not private prayer.

Is this pre or post Vatican II Daily Office?

Loving one another and loving God are two sides of the same coin; thanks for this reminder.

God's love is not the "world's" version of love. We who are humble according to God's word isn't the same as the "world's" version. This division is not of God. But, the Bible tell us to pray always. ❤️
