The GT1 class dissolved because of the domination of the series by the Mercedes CLK LM in 1998 it was so dominant, that, nobody wanted to return in 1999, as such GT1 class was cancelled and the Championship remained for GT2 only...

Well, no. BoP is the devil, however.

BoP also existed during those days. For example F1 GTRs were restricted to 600hp while F40s ran 750hp.
