Cant help but feel Porsche threw this one away, as Mercedes started the season with their older CLK GTR, Porsche had their 1998 car ready from the start the 911 GT1 '98 and they were quicker than Mercedes, for the first 2 races. However they failed to capitalise upon this, and incredibly Mercedes won both of these races with the CLK GTR, and of course when Mercedes, introduced their '98 new car the CLK LM it was game over for Porsche.
Right then on how many occasions were ether Riley w Ford or Elan power, or Panoz,, and-or James Weaver IE pro but non-factory driver the best of the rest? Where the best were billion-dollar car-making factory teams? Weaver was top prototype privateer in that Porsche-powered WSC - he would count as an Audi, Bentley and McLaren factory driver, by times

Best motorracing in the world.
Always went to the Silverstone round before going to LM, couple of times managed Spa as well.
Mercs were awesome ,but struggled at Le man's.
