@@tonychavez2083 not really, there were many "peaks"..... GT1 is one, But there was CAN AM series which was prototypes on steroids and crack. The 917k was peak endurance racing.... Group 5 in the 70s and 80s were the most extreme GT cars..... Of course group B, of course group C was the second coming of the 70s prototype war 956 was the "real" banned group C car, group A era DTM had some of the best one to one dog fights In all of motorsports with the most race successful touring car e30 M3...... Pikes peak when it had dirt still, targa Florio before it was banned. 24hrs of nurbering( or track at least) killed more touring cars and F1 cars then any track back then. There were so many highs in the last century of motorsports.......
That pickup truck on the track, getting the debris was very stupid, but it was hilarious hearing the commentator's outrage about it during the race hahahaha
Nice to see Simon Taylor in the flesh at the start here - his commentary was incredible for this season, while I prefer Martin Haven's voice they were (and still are) both superbly professional and knowledgable.
@@grimm6jack Exactly. LMP1 from a technical standpoint was much better than GT1. Sadly it's now dead and replaced by embarrassing neutered and BoP'ed crap prototypes full of spec parts.
Jean-Marc Gounon must be in the Guiness book.... Crash not one but both teammates in the same turn, and in the first lap of the race... A very unsafe return from a man that can't assume his own mistakes.
10:35 pretty sure those aren’t flames but the front of the car sparking since it’s bottoming out so hard. They definitely didn’t have any ride height restrictions like they do these days.
@@Lex24HD not really the McLaren F1 won a good chunk of the races and was close in points.......... Don't forget the McLaren is still a road car underneath..... It took Porsche and Mercedes to build god dam prototypes to compete with the McLaren....... McLaren lost the championship but it gave a good fight until the end..........1997 was the last year it competed.

I was looking forward to this race specifically just to see what happened about the Gulf/Davidoff Mclarens all crashing into each other.
