Filipino food has such a broad base underneath it, with native, Chinese, Spanish and American influences that there is going to be a wide variety of dishes that appeal to people. It certainly is a paradise for those who love fresh and varied seafood. I've been eating it for 47 years now, and can say that if you can't easily find at least a dozen dishes that you'll fall in love with then you have a heart that is already hardened and a mind that is impossible to open.

I live in the Philippines for 7 years now and I was really amazed with many things in this country. It really depends on where you live. My rent varies depends on my location for example. I paid 3000 k for house 1 story 2 bedrooms w/parking lot in cedar 1 in carmona cavite, also 18k in carmona cavite but this time was in Carmona Estate 2 story house 4 bedrooms with huge parking lot and washing area. In Metro area in varies, I paid 25k with DMCI The Red Woods, also 11k in DMCI Palm Groove. Security are amazing in Metro Area, I love the shut gun that the security guards hold all the time, makes you feel your family are safe. Yet, life is more secure in province and I mean by this, Carmona Cavite, even though technically its not a province but its not a part of Metro Manila either. What I hate is most of the properties are too expensive on average salary of Filipino Citizens. I feel like foreigners get the chance to explore luxury life than Filipinos in the Philippines. I see job post pays Foreigners higher than Filipinos even though both can do the same job, Example: A company looking for Spanish speaker, they hire foreigner for 100 k when they pay a Filipino who work hard on Spanish language and they actually speak as good as native but they get paid 80 k or 70 k. I am a foreigner but I think its not fair. Companies should reward those Filipinos who are thinking outside the box, especially if these companies opening and operating on Filipino land. Anyways Thanks for this beautiful vlog and all your vlogs, you take us to places and its really awesome. If I will say one thing about the Philippines, this country is not poor and this country needs more people like DU30.

Filipino food is awesome and I like that each region makes certain dishes in their own style. I have told many people that crime is not exclusive to the Philippines. I had my wallet stolen on my second trip and people said you would go back and I said it could happen in the city I live in here in Canada. As a truck driver I am thinking driving especially in Manila could be scary. They seem to have a honk and go system without looking. I have been in Manila, and Pasay and think it is a nice place to visit and explore but not a place I want to live. I am going to be looking outside of the cities for a place to live when I move there. Many people say the Philippines is a 3rd world country which in many ways it is but it is also becoming and developed country and that is a good thing. I traveled coast to coast in Canada and eastern US and Scotland and even though I have seen many awesome things and places in these travels the Philippines is my favorite and after 3 trips there it is my retirement destination.

Yeah the traffic and road congestation in Manila and other parts of the Philippines is shit, but that is more a third world problem. Same could be seen in south east asia and in India. Best way to experience Philippines is in the provinces, Manila don't give you an authentic Filipino experience but westernized one.

Interesting video. I’m also a foreigner who has been living in the Philippines for 5 years and these are my opinions on the points in your video…
    *1. Filipino Food is bad*
Like you guys, I enjoy and eat a lot of Filipino food. However, l understand how the Philippines got a reputation for bad food. You really have to go looking for that good food.
Most travellers come to the Philippines after having visited countries like Thailand and Vietnam, where you can find cheap and delicious street food on every corner for less than the equivalent of 100 pesos. People come to the Philippines with the expectation that it will be like that. It’s not. That cheap street food and those carinderias are easy to find but the food is generally not fresh, 90% bone, and bad taste. To get a decent Filipino meal, you have to really seek out a good restaurant and pay at least 200-300 pesos for a dish for any kind of consistency.
My experience of many families home cooking has been great but for some reason, this does not translate to restaurants.
Filipino food isn’t objectively bad but I think it’s reputation is somewhat deserved.
    *2. Philippines is unsafe*
Definitely a misconception. The Philippines will look sketchy to a foreigner but once you have adjusted your expectations of how things look, you’ll realise it is actually very safe.
Sidenote: I don’t think the excess of guards is a sign of a place being safe. Actually, it’s quite the opposite.
    *3. Philippines is just beaches*
Misconception - there are great cities and different kinds of beautiful landscapes as you guys pointed out. It’s quite nice that these are not well known though as it feels even more special when you discover them.
*4. Can’t get around without Tagalog.*
That’s not a misconception. Philippines is well known for good English.
    *5. So many islands*
Again, not a misconception. People think of the Philippines as lots of islands.
*6. Philippines is hard to get around*
Not a misconception. It really is hard to get around. That’s one of the biggest things holding the country back as a tourist destination. The main tourist spots are very far apart - the only way to get between them is to fly - but there are no flights between them (or sometimes very expensive ones on obscure airlines). To get between the main tourist spots, you have to bounce in and out of Manila or Cebu.
    *7. Philippines is mainly farming*
I get your point but Manila is just a small part of the Philippines and BGC is just a tiny part of Manila. 90% of the Philippines really does revolve around farming and fishing.
    *8. Manila isn’t worth seeing*
Big misconception. Metro Manila is a great city. The info available online is bad though (this has changed for the better since you and other TH-camrs have been making informative videos) and most people get stuck in a bad part of Manila for a day and write it off without experiencing any of its great parts. You can’t conquer Manila in a day or even a week. I’ve lived here 5 years and still have so much to discover. It takes time to get a feel for it but the rewards are huge!

About the food thing, there are many food stalls or carenderias who have a great food. You don't have to pay 200-300 pesos just to have a good food. I think you just went to the wrong stalls or carenderia.
Philippines is an agricultural country. But, to say that 90% of the country only revolves around farming and fishing is a wrong idea. If you travel to a few cities here in the Philippines you can see that many places here are urbanized. In my opinion, maybe around 50-70% will do.
But again, Im happy that you love our country 💕

I don't know, but having securiry guards around, doesn't mean that those places are not safe because they are there.. And they are everywhere, Malls, fastfoods, stores, condominiums, etc., not generally because these places give you troubles as if expectedly, but more of giving safety to people, and the thought of being assisted immediately by these frontliners just in case the need arises. Though yes i understand that foreigners are scared because they are wielding guns, but to us locals they are actually far from scary, or we just got used to them around.

Yes pickpockets are normal in these places and yet very visible in Paris! But one thing i appreciate in Phils. Is that you wont have a communication or language barrier. All the signs are in English. A large population dominated by young ages who can fluently understand English. Also, its more fun here as a new things always surprises us like new resto, coffeeshop, malls, events, etc.

The reason why the older generations are fluent in English is that during their time the Americans spread the language so fast in order to eradicate Spanish as lingua franca. The older generations may have thick accent but their grammar is on point. Unlike today we might sound a bit Americans but are struggling on grammar. Some can't even express their thoughts clearly in English.

Her parents (Mom is my aunt and her dad is an Italian but a Canadian Citizen) told us that my cousin was becoming bratty and bitchy plus a cry baby when they were on their way here coz my cousin thought there was no TV, no A/C, houses are very tiny and she thought that everything is about dirty water and jungle or purely sand and no sceneries. But when they landed here, she was surprised I had my PlayStation and I play better than her. 😆 And she then cried again coz she became tired going around SM Megamall and Shangri-la Mall when we decided to go shopping. 😆 Now my cousin has been traveling back and forth from Canada and the Philippines. She keeps on coming back and she even said she will buy her PS5 here coz it's gonna be cheaper. 😆

We really appreciate you guys in helping to promote our tourism and food industry the way you feature it as your content. Our country ain't perfect like any other country and some misconceptions have slight truth to it but its not as bad as what others think. 😊🤔🤗❤
I worked in the call center for 17 years so I have been given a lot of opportunity to talk to a lot of nationalities ( Americans, British, Australians, other European countries and fellow Asians too) face to face and over the phone. I must admit that I get emotional sometimes when we're looked down as people because of our race and 1st thing they will ask is "Where are you from?" for those who aren't fond of talking to a different nationality and the issue would go on a different path. But I am already used to it, just sharing. 😂😂😂

If our mainstream and social media had praticed responsible reporting i don't think it will lead to misconception. If the media do not function what they should have be then we, citizens of of our country should step up and do what these organization supposed to do. Thank you for clarifying about Manila. I feel sad everytime the people from provinces always said Manila is dirty and dangerous. I grew in Metro Manila and although I love provinces I can always say that living in Manila has huge advantage. So yes don't underestimate manila. Good job George and Lucy. I agree with everything you said.

Enjoyed the video. I've been visiting the Philippines since 1994 - about 20+ visits. I retired in Thailand, but get to the Philippines several times a year. I love visiting a new island on each trip. My favorite island is Siquijor. When I first visited I had a bit of difficulty with the food, but after a few visits had favorites and added more as I traveled about - still a few I have steered clear of, but here in Thailand there also a few dishes I avoid. Am looking forward to coming to Manila again as soon as it is allowed. Have enjoyed being a subscriber since you first visited the Philippines and might be one of your oldest - in my 82nd year. Tom Rice, Lum Lu Ka, Pathumthani (had lived on Phuket for my first 17 years in Thailand).
