      I bought a 2tb Kinhank 2T HDD from Aliexpress a batocera one and it didn't work. The drive only ended up being 5gb and no games wouldn't even boot into batocera. Hyperspin is a NIGHTMARE to install. In fact I ended up getting another HDD and creating my own retro gaming harddrive using the roms and with better emulation. Almost everything was wrong, from the button mapping to the screen scaling, it was just horrible. Not to mention the amount of times it crashed Windows and I would have to reboot, absolutely hated Hyperspin.

    • @Madlittlepixel
      @Madlittlepixel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Hyperspin can be amazing, but its also annoying as all hell lol. One reason I did this video the way I did was to explain without making it an hour long video that even a prebuilt hyperspin setup is not so easy to get going and can require more work than you would think. I will be porting this particular build to launch box as I have defaulted to using launchbox over the years myself. Id imagine people with no experience with Hyperspin may have a lot more difficult of a time with this build than I have. I mean I spent maybe an hour doing setup then reconfiguring things... which someone not having done it before would probably spend a lot longer doing so.

    • @ncf1
      @ncf1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Madlittlepixel well stated! The way you described it in the video was just right, some things work great instantly, others are fiddly, other bits just a confusing nightmare. Maybe its worth persisting getting everything perfect but damn... that takes a lot of time, at least with the build I had.

    This was a really great deal for a 4tb build! I’ve been looking around in the US for these and people are easily charging $300-500 bucks for these drives. You are really paying about $50 bucks for 25k games and you could go a lifetime trying to play through them all.

      @@FuZZbaLLbee It's not up to the buyer to know about the copyright.
      Just like when I buy a bluray I just assume they have the copyright, do you actually do any legal diligence on one? I doubt it.

    I'm Team LaunchBox and suggest that anyonr who wants to go a PC retro build to give LB a change. It's become much easier to setup ROMs and artwork and the BigBox front end is much more streamlined as compared to HyperSpin. There still is a small learning curve in the setup process, but after that, it's smooth sailing. Another suggestion would be Batocera flashed onto an external drive, but configuring PS2 and Dreamcast emulators do require some extra steps

    I use coinops next 2 because it's easier to add games. yeah sure it doesn't look as good, but that's actually better because it means to add a game all you need is the icon, roms and a jpg screenshot as a minimum. but you can add a vid if you make one or find one online and have gigs of free space available for unnecessary vids. It's a whole lot easier to update coinops next 2, whereas most of the other frontends require you to be a master with photoshop and since we are not that results in you not being able to add games. I prefer a simple frontend because remember, it's about the games, not a flashy frontend.

    So the drive already has the games on it.
    Do you have to have a gaming style PC to use it?

    • @Madlittlepixel
      @Madlittlepixel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most stuff on the drive wont require the highest end pc, but somethings will benefit from you having a setup with decent cpu/gpu and ram. If your pc is fairly old or has really low specs it may require you to fiddle with emulator settings to get some stuff working better.

    Seems most everyone is moving to LaunchBox myself included. I tried a new HyperSpin last year and just couldn't do it. Removed it completely and said goodbye. I spent 7 years on HyperSpin. Had a good time. Community was great back in the day.

    I was watching another gaming channel and they had a video called "my problem with emulation" it was basically an entire video lamenting the fact that there is a learning curve when it comes to emulating and how they want everything to just be plug and play. They were also talking about how having to set things up was a turn off to emulation. My thought was, then just pay someone more knowledgeable to set it all up. Minor inconvenience solved.

      Before even recording this video over the past week I went through the entire drive. Nothing malicious is on it, also pretty sure its just a duplicated build from some other Hyperspin builder.

    I wouldnt recommend a Hyperspin HD unless you know what you are doing. It looks great but the problems soon start piling up. Look for Launchbox drive or my recommendation a Batocera drive which is truly Plug in and Play as its Linux so you boot from the drive and it really is one of the best ones out there

    As much as I liked hyperspin back in the day I much prefer launchbox these days, it literally took me 50+ hours to get my hyperspin setup working properly, the one thing that is annoying as hell is if using Rocket launcher as well the updates sometimes break systems and you have to troubleshoot which is a pain in the ass. Great video as always MLP 👌

      I used to use BigBox but now I prefer Batocera. I like Batocera so much better. Just drop the files into the roms folder and backing up saves is just moving one save folder (the main one) and you can put the saves on handhelds as well. So much better.
