I love to make them their own treats. Last year I dried all my carrots from my small vegetable garden in the oven, it took forever, but now my mom got herself a drying machine so I can borrow that! I really love getting creative with my mice and looking for things for their cage. In my country, you don't really have hammocks for mice or hamsters so I made some from panholders lol.
I have a food dehydrator... Veggies some times end too crispy / hard. But there is also lyophilized fruits and veggies for humans, even at Walmart. They will love them!
Rodents are the best pets to get for recycling! Even if you're not mad into it. You can make great puzzle toys out of loo roll tubes! And boxes are always great! Stuff you'd get anyway can be used as chew toys and chewable hideys. XD I have guinea pigs and I swear that they have had much more fun with a plain cardboard box than they ever have had with expensive hideys!
One of my all time favorite rat hides that all our rats have always loved and I've had for YEARS is something I got in the dollar section of Target which is a chain of department stores. It's a small step stool made for children.
I normally use a seed mix from Asda and add it into their diet, I also make DIY enclosure like the IKEA Detolf and different boxes and other things from different shops like The Range and B&M
I absolutely love this! I'm finally looking into getting mice again because i miss them so much and i love just how postive and helpful you are! I love that you made an entire video with th mindset of "you don't have to be rich to own pets or give them fancy things for them to have a fulfilling life" it seems like that is how a lot of caged animal videos are and as someone who has avoided getting mice again mostly because of money restrictions this almost made me cry happy tears being told "yeah you can totally take care of these guys on a budget" because giving my fur babies the best loves possible has always been a top priority ❤❤
this is so amazing, thank you, emi! my four girls have just moved into their big enclosure after being in intros for just over a week, so this was really helpful😊
These are some great tips! I've also heard that apparently you can dehydrate fruit/veg in the oven too, although I haven't tried this myself so I'm not 100% sure how well it would work
Hi! I am new here (knew about you thanx to Victoria Raechel) I had hamsters.... I do not have mice... but my first ever pets were lab mice at age 5 (I hope my mother took good care of them) and my bff just adopted rescued lab mice. So here I am, trying to learn as much as I can from you. Thanks for loving and sharing your knowledge about mice ♥️🐭🐭♥️
Hello! I just recently got a couple female mice. I have two cats and a Betta fish already. Always wanted Mice. They are So stinking cute. I've only been watching your videos for a couple hours and I'm hooked and I am so glad I added them to our little family. My husband is a bad influence LOL, also they're names are Elsa and Anna because we got them over this weekend and it was snowing.
I like to dry my own herbs, it's so much cheaper. I also make my own little hammocks for my male mouse, he doesn't care that I'm not that good at sewing. 😂 Also, I'm getting my 3 new rat boys on May 5th! I can't wait! ❤
Boxes are awesome! My ratties love em! Cereal bar boxes are always a hit, I convert Dairylea boxes into foraging toys... and when it's Easter, my guys get a couple of extra rooms in their cage... as long as none of these items come in glossy boxes. Glossy boxes are a non-no, but they love chewing up cardboard, crazy lil creatures!
I was looking for long time for a good size hamster cage but I couldn't find one. I'm a huge Ebay fan but I had no idea that we could find an extra large hamster cage. Because of your video now I have found one. Thank you! you are awsome.🥰❣❤💛🧡💚👍🐹
I always dehydrate my rat safe veggie scraps for my food mix and treats, all the lil bits of carrots(and the peels) /celery/beet/peppers, broccoli/kale/collard stems, etc… I chop everything up real small and it only takes a few hrs to fully dry out. I have a few gallon bags full!!
This is helpful. I can afford to own mice but it’s trickier money-wise to get established in the first place so I’m researching as much as I can. I really want to build my own enclosure!
This is so helpful I’ve just got my 4 girls last week :) I’ve been trying to look up about growing sprays, millet etc for them at home, will check out victoria Rachel’s video :) thank you x
Hi Emi! I love your videos and this one is really informative and the mice are so cute!! I really want to have rats at some point but I love leaning about mice and other animals to! 😍
Also ice found out a really good way for saving money on a cage is using a large plastic storage box that clips up!! There are many sizes and u can get massive ones.. like mine is 79cm long and it was only £25 from a supermarket!! (Just remember to poke enough ventilation holes on top and at the sides of the box)
I have a wax warmer I don't use anymore and it's not being use d as a hide for my mice I also found spongebob's pineapple house as a fish hide that I got for them that I thought was cool
The buying bedding in bulk is really good tip thanks, the only thing is on rspca it said something about using non aspen. Have u had any problems using aspen bedding or not? Sorry I'm quite late to this video Also it's rally good cause I have 2 apple trees and a hazelnut tree in the garden so can use branches from them which I know haven't been treated with chemicals or stuff!
i searched for this bedding around locally and had no luck so i decided to go onto amazon and it was 130 dollars i wish i could get a smaller bag for less to not spend so much once
Next year I'm taking woodwork again. I plan on making stuff for mice. I have a few ideas for houses and stuff, but I could use more ideas. I'm open to any suggestions.

1. Rats should always have some food available. If you use seed mix, try to wait until they've eaten almost all, and then add more, otherwise they start picking the tastier stuff. If you use lab blocks that's not a problem and you can have more acailable all the time. + I give some fresh veggies daily & protein treat a couple of times a week 2. I wouldn't use fake plants, the plastic is probably not safe for chewing. 3. Breeders have their own breeding goals. Try to find a breeder that breeds the type you are interested in :) Usually any breeder only has a couple of different colours and types. I'm not her but hope it helps :D
