In the u.s. a lot of people are coming around. The pet store near me currently won't even sell a mouse to people unless they have a 20 gallon long or larger and they ask for pictures of your setup before you buy. They started getting rid of all the small cages and now market them correctly as a carrier.
Well just depends on what your cat likes and doesn’t like. Cats are not supposed to be fed milk they are lactose intolerant. Water is mainly fine. And they like to eat meat, the fresh meat you’d eat like chicken and fish from the grocery store. Most cats I’ve played with loved feathers long stick toys that you move really fast in their face or on the floor. Or how laser pointers they like those. Anything that requires you to have quick agility cause they like to chase stuff. I had kittens where I would train them to play fetch like a dog with tin foil I’d roll up into a ball and they would go nuts over it. Also body language is important. For example purring is a good thing, while you see it growling or hissing or wagging it’s tail is a bad thing. Meowing depends on the cat, some do it cause they like to talk others do it cause they need something important.
I’m pretty sure domesticated cats are illegal in New Zealand. You have to bring in a cat from a approved Country. She lives in New Zealand so I think you have to find a different channel if you want to learn about cats.
This makes me really miss/appreciate my mice I had as a kid/early teenager. I kept them from 2003 to 2009 (age 10-16), and it's nice to see a lot of the stuff we did to care for them was actually accurate and correct (given that pet information on mice was limited at the time). The 192L tank enclosure, extra bedding, large non-wire wheels, owning groups of mice at any time, toy rotation, DIY "lid" with mesh, offering fresh varied food constantly... etc... was all stuff that friends and extended family presumed wasn't required and would often ask us why we bothered.... all because they presumed the tiny wire cage and 1 lone mouse on seed mix was all you needed.
For my old mouse Buttercup, her eye was infected, and her legs weren’t working. We spent $1200 on her treatment, and we did all we could but she did’t make it. Shortly after her sister Chika stopped eating and died of depression.
I’m not a mouse owner, but I am pet-sitting a rat. His owner (my sibling) said that he would most likely never take food from me and would be very skittish. But in just two days he’s already taking treats from my hand letting me rub in-between his ears on his head and he even plays with me! honestly I’m so happy that I’ve gained his trust and it’s given me a whole new understanding and love of rats.
*a* rat? As in one? I hope this is not the case, but rats should ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS be kept in pairs or groups because they are very social and can become quite depressed if they are alone. Male rats are not like male mice and must always be kept in groups as must females. Even if you could be with a single rat 24/7 they still would not have the same quality of life as a rat kept with other rats, because they don't get the same kind of enrichment from a human. Also, because of stress from being kept alone, they can very easily develop health problems such as respiratory infections, which rats are extremely prone to. Emiology on TH-cam has 2 great videos on why rats need to be kept together. I really hope that the rat you are petsitting for is alone because a cagemate is going to the vet, or has just died or something, but if the rat truly is alone I would highly suggest getting him a cagemate(or 2 or 3 or 4...).
@@margalothegreat_hams she’s adopting another one, but she had just got him when I was petsitting. Actually she might already have another rat haven’t checked up on that yet
Research shows that you are totally wrong about habitat size. They are more stressed in larger habitats than smaller habitats. The ones sold at stores tend to not be safe, but the size isn’t the issue. Clean and cozy bedding is also shown to be really bad for mice because it doesn’t control ammonia. It can be good for nesting material though. The rest of the information is accurate. The fresh produce shown can cause gastrointestinal distress if they aren’t used to it. They absolutely don’t need fresh produce, since their natural diet is made up primarily of grains, with seeds and insects also. Produce is naturally used as a water source and not needed if you give bottles.

First day I gave him treat and he hid it in his house. Hey! I just found your channel as it got recommended to me from my extensive axolotl research! I’m really enjoying your videos!! I also thought I recognised that accent! Hello from another kiwi!
hi, i love your videos~! they've helped me learn so much about animals :0 thank you for making content like this and giving advice! i liked this video!
We've got a disabled wild mouse. It looks like his back leg has been broken or paralysed. Very tame and happy to be in the tank. It's an old fish tank we had. I'm not sure what the wee fella will be able to do but I'm still going to get it a wheel to explore. Once it's settled I'm going to check if it's a male or female. Mouse has eaten and drank well the last two days. X
I used to use those horrible big but skinny cages, I realised my mistake and got a really big one + I attached my 2 cages together and now my 2 mice have a giant cage.
I used to go to this pet shop and just visit the animals lol and they used to have this small little cage cramped with mice I felt so bad like it was piling mice in that tiny cage
I'm so glad to hear that I really didn't make many mistakes xD I got mice as my first ever own pets when I moved out and I would hang out in so many forums, read about literally everything and figure out the best way to make their lives as good as they can be. The only problem was that I got my mice from a pet store which really was a bad decision. I didn't know though, so I guess it's not really my fault.
I adopted two male mice a while ago and they have been doing amazing, it does always depend on the situation though. You know your mouse the best obviously so it is always dependent on the owner and the mouse.
can u please do a special video talking about advices for new fish owners or people who wants to adopt a fish? for a long time i want to adopt (if it’s possible) a fish but i’m really afraid to do something wrong for them and i really trust in ur experience so it would help me a lot pd: i love ur channel and i hope u can growth more
I’m from California and used to own a male mouse from Petco… He wasn’t aggressive nor skittish, never bit me & yea, he was a pretty chill mouse lmao. Loved his cage which I found odd, like don’t chu wanna come out 😂 Nah, he’ll go back in. But he was a good boy. After him, I didn’t get another mouse till like a year later, today, matter of fact. Two babies, SUPER CUTE ! When I just just got them, ofc they hopped out of my hand, kept running off but they adjust quickly. It hasn’t even been 24hrs & they already let me handle them more. They met me today and have not bitten me. I’ve actually NEVER been bitten by a mouse. Only hamsters. Hamsters are more aggressive cuz they actually do bite & not only that but they can be super protective of another hamster as well as territorial (with humans as well NOT JUST OTHER HAMSTERS) 😅 I’ve had hamsters before & honestly, mice are way better. I had two hamsters, male & female when I was a kiddo & it was really just the male that was a total jerk 😭 I wouldn’t even be tryna mess with him cu I know he hate being handled and all. Bu like, he straight up said “paws off” from the female as well 🤡 If I tried to handle er he’d go to my hand & bite it. This dude was always tryna bite me. & idk if it’s cuz he’s just super protective of her or if he didn’t like me or trust me but yea, he was the only one like that. The female “brownie”, she was nice 👍🏻 She’d bitten me before but was nice later on along the road. I still did handle her even with the male being the way he was. It was just a matter of tryna get er on time b4 he get a snip of me 🤡 The mice I purchased today were $2.50 (cheap AF) and from Pet Palace. I like Pet Palace just cuz it has more options as far as animals go. So, more birds, reptiles, they have BUNNIES (pet co and pet smart don’t sell bunnies/rabbits), Guinea pigs is same as any other place, MICE !! + RATS !! 🖤 Tons of bby mice, super cute, different fur coat color (not just the typical white coated feeder mouse) The rats are cute too, I’d never seen one irl before going to Pet Palace. I agree that they should spread out the mice / rats just so they’re not so bunched up but it’s so not so hard to understand why they do. Cuz in their minds they picture them being meals NOT PETS. I luv mice though & it’s honestly so hard to find em out here. The white feeders… some pet co and pet smart may have them but don’t expect them all too cuz that in fact is NOT the case. Pet Palace has an absurd amount of them which is why I said it’d be nicer if they were more spread out like in different enclosures. But I’m happy with my two new babies ! Absolutely in luv with them !!!
The thing is so you're supporting the store when you're buying them but they're not going to care if one stops buying them they're still going to sell them the mouses they're not going to stop this because one person stops buying them and you're just helping them houses a lot
First off, I love your cockatiels and the fact that they get to fly around free. I had a pet duck who had the run of the house. She died recently after 31 years of being my constant companion. She also had the run of the house. It's a lot more do-able than most people might think. She was very intelligent, self aware, and an absolutely wonderful companion. I miss her greatly. You seem very knowledgeable, and I'm hoping that maybe you can help me with a problem. I am having a problem with wild mice getting into my house. I've had people over to tighten up the house, and was hopeful since for all the years that I've lived here there have never been mice until recently. Unfortunately, all attempts at exclusion have failed, and I have had to resort to live trapping. Killing is not an option I can accept. I just can't kill or be a party to killing (yes, vegan). The problem is that I simply can't get out to the country to release mice every day, so I need to find a way to keep them comfortable while they await their sentence of transportation. I am using a bucket trap to catch them (see: th-cam.com/video/pHwvVPT202Y/w-d-xo.html for an a video of how it works). Since I can't get out probably more than once or twice a week, I need to keep them comfortable, well fed, well watered, and give them plenty of exercise. I was thinking of running a tube into a Habitrail or Crittertrail, or maybe just another bucket with a wheel, bedding, food bowel, and waterer, along with lots of bedding to keep them comfy until the weekend. Then I would simply detach the tube connecting the two and put them in the car for a nice safe ride to freedom. Do you have any suggestions or opinions on what items and brands I should have for this? There are so many on the market that I hardly know where to start.
Jeez I wish I watched this video earlier. When I first got my girls, one of them had a respiratory infection and I had NO idea. She passed away a few days after I gotten her and I got a new female mouse to live with my baby so she isn't alone. I def recommend Soda's advice ;-;
Thank you so much for this! I just rescued a wild mouse that my cat almost caught. We have an overpopulation and they're super invasive in my area so the options become kill or keep. I'm a big ecology nerd and I have several friends who are in the environmental sciences. It genuinely is at the point where I can't even ethically release due to their invasive nature, and they'd be suddenly dropped off so far away they may not even be able to integrate to the new environment. So, me and my partner are about to drop some fat cash to be able to give this one a good life. After getting to know them better and putting them through quarantine and a vet visit and getting them sexed, we'll introduce companions. Obviously s/he's an adult wild animal so, I'm not expecting them to be social or behave like a pet, but that's okay. Thank you soo much for this great video. Now we feel confident we're armed with the knowledge that we're doing the right thing for this little one.
Thank you for sharing . I am terrified of mice , but I had hamsters when I was young . I’m considering facing my fears and getting one (or likely more ) of these cuties. Thank you for your channel .
I got my guinea pigs from a pet store and I can say that my local area takes very good care for their animals in pet stores they hold them everyday and we can see the breeding areas they have very good size cages for them plus they don't sell critter trails (I'm in the UK) and have VERY VERY large cages for sale I got a 1m by 70cm for them there, a play pen and everything they needed, we got everything reccomended from someone who owns guinea pigs
Hi! I’m a new sub and I saw an old vid and I love it! It helped me a lot to notice how to really make sure my little puppy’s are happy 😊 thanks so much!
I made lots of mistakes with fish (not too small of a tank) but not testing the water, too much filtration for a betta, and had a heater, but not hot enough for a betta
Thank you I didn’t know you hade mice we are getting some tomorrow mainly because my sister that sweet and she started freaking out because she wanted one and my dad caved so I’m watching this to make sure they live good
My bf came home with a little mouse and he was hurt so I am taking care of it. Me and him have bonded so I’m thinking about keeping him. I had a really big cage from a bird I rescued. It’s a 60cm for 50cm. Thing is, I live in a country where people only have cats and dogs. There is nothing for mice or rats. I have been researching and trying to go to a LOT of stores to try and get toys for him, wheels, bedding and food…there is next to none. Stores only sell for hamsters..
Oh my this video is perfectly timed I was thinking months about getting a pet (I hate rabbits my whole life but I can´t get them here) so mices seem to be just perfect I "need" something that doesn´t stinkt (like rats.. I love rats but they just have a smell to them) and aren´t loud like birds so ... I think I´ll start my search :D
Ive seen some people talking about nice having their own smell as well. Most small animals have a musk of some sort. Some I’ve seen say boys smell more and others say their girls smell more.
I just got some the other day, been looking for many years, just can't find them in my area unless you go to PetSmart which sucks, but also if you have a cat the cat will try to get into the cage too, so make sure the top is very secure
7:14 I'm not saying it's good for them but... maybe a harvest mouse? I have a few and they are so tiny :> However, I don't think it would be good to use it on them
Oh no, I just went and brought one of those tall cages 🤦♀️ online said fish tanks weren’t good because they lacked ventilation. As for bedding the pet store recommended hay 😨
I have the tall plastic cage with the two platforms connected to two other cages with tubes and all sorts of toys and different bedding textures right now so from one end to the other its about a soild 3-4 foot length
Tysm for making this video! I owned rodents when I was younger but I haven’t owned any in like 6 years and have been wanting to get a mouse or two and now I feel really educated on how to find and care properly for them. One question that I do have is their diet, I remember I would just give them pellets and the store mouse mix or whatever it’s called but is this good enough for them or do they need other things like I noticed meal worms in the video
Making your own mix and scatter feeding is a good option, or at least good quality pellets, not just the store’s brand. I use oxbow pellets, mixed with dried greens, uncooked pasta, (small amount) mixed millet seeds. Since mice are omnivores they can have mealworms as treats or foraging opportunities. Hope this helps! :) Edit to fix spelling*
Thank you for all the advice. My 2 female mice are sisters and According to your info they have everything they need apart from having a male mouse with them and some more toys in their cage. Otherwise they are very happy and comfortable with me. Once a day I let them explore outside the cage on my sofa. One of them actually likes to cuddle a lot with me and comes to my hand to be picked up and get a treat or to explore. 1 question: how would you recommend to clean/wash a mouse?
Keeping two neutered males together can work but its usually better to also have females. Two females for every male is a good ratio so 2 males and 4 females is a good group. If you can't get your male neutered you can also keep him with female African Soft Furred Rats. Despite their name ASF rats are more closely related to mice than rats and make good companions for mice because they are very similar in care, temperament and size but are a different species and so cannot breed with fancy mice.
I got a pet mouse from Petco and they asked if it was a feeder mouse or a pet turns out there the same mouse so I was sad to find out they would not live that long
The only reason I am buying a mouse/mice from a pet store is because the pet store I go to actually does a really good job at taking care of the animals I see them feeding them almost every five minutes not the same ones of course and they keep them really well and they take good care of them it’s called animal city and yes the cages might be quite small but I think the ones in the back are quite nice and big and they seem to do a good job and the only way I can get a mice that’s open is the pet store
when i was 9 years old my aunt and uncle got me 3 mice, 2 boys and one girl they were like 9 weeks old they dissapeared 4 weeks later because my neighbors cat luna isnt afraid of entering random houses, and took my mice :( alot of years have passed im still sad about it, the cage was escape proof but it wasnt cat proof since we didint have cats back then rip. ive done alot of research now and will probably get a mouse in the future
I had to buy mice from a pet store becouse of how im still a minor and my parents wouldn't let me buy from a mousery/breeder. Owning mice with slavic parents is really hard, the more that they want me to feed them plain oat we just harvested :[ Unconcious animal abuse is really normalised here, it's really terrifying how no pet store gives actual good things. Im going tommorow to the city with my friend, the first thing im doing is looking for things for my two girls in a toy store or maybe a pet store if I get lucky enough to find one with quality toys
I had a mouse and man do they get out I had him in a 40 gallon tank and one midnight I woke up to use the bathroom and their he was running around the bathroom 3 doors down from my room luckily I had taught him to come when I call and he came running it was terrifying bc we had bleach in the bathroom and i was so worried he got into some but he was fine and lived for a year(I got him bc he was sick and wanted to make sure he had a nice short life)
Well I have 2 young mice together a male and female for breeding for my snake but they are pets themselves with aspen bedding and a nice house to hide in which is dark for their comfort
I actually have a pet store near me called Katie's. I don't know if this is bad or not but they actually have spme mom mice nursing their baby's in the actual pet store with no other mice in their while their nursing, does anyone think it's stressing the moms out? Also I dont think they come from mills because they have the mom mice in their nursing the babys.
Idk if you'll reply, but (idk how you feel about snakes btw) but like, would you be able to feed mice/rats to a snake? I'm personally not able to because I've had pet rodents.
Now I feel bad. I got my first mouse today and I messed up with her already big time. I heard of ppl buying in pairs but never really knew why and I only got one female 😞
I am WAYYYY to poor to afford a large fishtank. Ive got a 10 gallon tank. Im using the 10 gallon for my mouse. She used to be in those tiny crappy cages and shes happier in the 10 gallon. Im searching for a good price to get a larger tank. Her name is vanilla and shes very skiddish and im trying to bond with her
I just got the biggest deja vu before I realised what was going on lol
Same xD

I adopted two male mice a while ago and they have been doing amazing, it does always depend on the situation though. You know your mouse the best obviously so it is always dependent on the owner and the mouse.
can u please do a special video talking about advices for new fish owners or people who wants to adopt a fish? for a long time i want to adopt (if it’s possible) a fish but i’m really afraid to do something wrong for them and i really trust in ur experience so it would help me a lot
pd: i love ur channel and i hope u can growth more
I’m from California and used to own a male mouse from Petco… He wasn’t aggressive nor skittish, never bit me & yea, he was a pretty chill mouse lmao. It was just a matter of tryna get er on time b4 he get a snip of me 🤡
The mice I purchased today were $2.50 (cheap AF) and from Pet Palace.
GOOD INFORMATION, GOOD VIDEO, very nice person. ALSO THANK YOU for spreading kindness.
Allways go to a good breeder. (Or rescue)❤️❤️❤️
Hi! I don’t have a mouse but, Your birds are cute!
It’s a small world
The thing is so you're supporting the store when you're buying them but they're not going to care if one stops buying them they're still going to sell them the mouses they're not going to stop this because one person stops buying them and you're just helping them houses a lot
Jeez I wish I watched this video earlier. When I first got my girls, one of them had a respiratory infection and I had NO idea. She passed away a few days after I gotten her and I got a new female mouse to live with my baby so she isn't alone. I def recommend Soda's advice ;-;
Oh I was thinking I was glitching because I thought that it was the same video from last night
I saw that this was reuploaded at 1 in the morning and just kind of thought that TH-cam was broken or that I was losing it lmao
what about disk wheels? from the research I've done, its alright for them to be a bit smaller since they cant be bending their spind up.
But I haven't made any mistakes with minnows... and I want a mouse, though I don't have one right now
Thank you I didn’t know you hade mice we are getting some tomorrow mainly because my sister that sweet and she started freaking out because she wanted one and my dad caved so I’m watching this to make sure they live good
Question! Are black lights harmful to fish?
My bf came home with a little mouse and he was hurt so I am taking care of it. Me and him have bonded so I’m thinking about keeping him. I had a really big cage from a bird I rescued. It’s a 60cm for 50cm. Thing is, I live in a country where people only have cats and dogs. There is nothing for mice or rats. I have been researching and trying to go to a LOT of stores to try and get toys for him, wheels, bedding and food…there is next to none. Stores only sell for hamsters..
order online
I am really happy I have local pet store that breeds their own animals. She is amazing with them
I'm not sure I watched it the first time so cool.
Oh my this video is perfectly timed
I was thinking months about getting a pet (I hate rabbits my whole life but I can´t get them here) so mices seem to be just perfect
I "need" something that doesn´t stinkt (like rats.. I love rats but they just have a smell to them) and aren´t loud like birds
so ... I think I´ll start my search :D
Best of luck for you, hope ya get the mouse/mice you want. :D 👌
Really wish I had found this earlier.
Edit to fix spelling*
Thank you for all the advice. My 2 female mice are sisters and According to your info they have everything they need apart from having a male mouse with them and some more toys in their cage. Otherwise they are very happy and comfortable with me. Once a day I let them explore outside the cage on my sofa. One of them actually likes to cuddle a lot with me and comes to my hand to be picked up and get a treat or to explore.
1 question: how would you recommend to clean/wash a mouse?
My gerbil its in a 17 cm wheel, the only “problem” it’s the tail but he puts the tail outside, his back doesn’t curve at all,not even his neck
I am new to your channel and when I saw your bird I almost died that's how cute he is
Thank you so much for all this useful info!
I just watched the start of this video when it came out and I got so confused when I saw it uploaded again
How about 10 common mistakes bird owners make?
7:07 perfect for the ant in your life
Your chibi character doe ^^
Keeping two neutered males together can work but its usually better to also have females. Two females for every male is a good ratio so 2 males and 4 females is a good group. If you can't get your male neutered you can also keep him with female African Soft Furred Rats. Despite their name ASF rats are more closely related to mice than rats and make good companions for mice because they are very similar in care, temperament and size but are a different species and so cannot breed with fancy mice.
Right off the bat, you don't need a blow-dryer for your hair because you've constant birds flying nearby, overhead. Brava!
When I got my pet mice the owners of the shop said never get a wheel because it is very dangerous for their tails.
Thanks for reuploading, new subber and I am learning with two baby mice I found that were left by momma.
Left/probably lost by momma
I got a pet mouse from Petco and they asked if it was a feeder mouse or a pet turns out there the same mouse so I was sad to find out they would not live that long
The only reason I am buying a mouse/mice from a pet store is because the pet store I go to actually does a really good job at taking care of the animals I see them feeding them almost every five minutes not the same ones of course and they keep them really well and they take good care of them it’s called animal city and yes the cages might be quite small but I think the ones in the back are quite nice and big and they seem to do a good job and the only way I can get a mice that’s open is the pet store
when i was 9 years old my aunt and uncle got me 3 mice, 2 boys and one girl they were like 9 weeks old they dissapeared 4 weeks later because
my neighbors cat luna isnt afraid of entering random houses, and took my mice :(
alot of years have passed im still sad about it, the cage was escape proof but it wasnt cat proof since we didint have cats back then
rip.
ive done alot of research now and will probably get a mouse in the future
I LOVE your pet care
Do I own mice? No. Do I pan to? no. Did I watch full video anyways? Hell yeah
You are the best you're doing what peta should be doing
I had to buy mice from a pet store becouse of how im still a minor and my parents wouldn't let me buy from a mousery/breeder. Owning mice with slavic parents is really hard, the more that they want me to feed them plain oat we just harvested :[ Unconcious animal abuse is really normalised here, it's really terrifying how no pet store gives actual good things. Im going tommorow to the city with my friend, the first thing im doing is looking for things for my two girls in a toy store or maybe a pet store if I get lucky enough to find one with quality toys
I had a mouse and man do they get out I had him in a 40 gallon tank and one midnight I woke up to use the bathroom and their he was running around the bathroom 3 doors down from my room luckily I had taught him to come when I call and he came running it was terrifying bc we had bleach in the bathroom and i was so worried he got into some but he was fine and lived for a year(I got him bc he was sick and wanted to make sure he had a nice short life)
I would really like it if you did a one of bunnies please
Well I have 2 young mice together a male and female for breeding for my snake but they are pets themselves with aspen bedding and a nice house to hide in which is dark for their comfort
Question do budgies get lonely? My budgie doesn’t really talk much
❤I think they are so cute. I love watching them put their heads up
Do I want a mouse: no
Will I ever get a mouse: no
Do I Soda’a videos: yes >:D
I made the mistake of introducing a larger male mouse into my herd, they roughed him up tho and now all of them are separated
Oh no :( I didnt know about corn flakes passing
i have the first cage for my mouse but he isnt permanent, just keeping him over winter
Idk if you'll reply, but (idk how you feel about snakes btw) but like, would you be able to feed mice/rats to a snake? I'm personally not able to because I've had pet rodents.
Wheels should be bigger like mice reach up to 7 inches so I assume at least 8 inches longer than the mouse.
Good advice. Great video.
Now I feel bad. I got my first mouse today and I messed up with her already big time. I heard of ppl buying in pairs but never really knew why and I only got one female 😞
do pet stores even know what they’re doing?!
Ikr, it’s like they really only care about making money
(also your pfp is awesome)
@@starstruck2784 thank you!
i took a storage tub and cut some windows out of it, which i covered with hardware cloth :-) my mice love it :D
I am WAYYYY to poor to afford a large fishtank. Ive got a 10 gallon tank. Im using the 10 gallon for my mouse. She used to be in those tiny crappy cages and shes happier in the 10 gallon. Im searching for a good price to get a larger tank. Her name is vanilla and shes very skiddish and im trying to bond with her
what's your cleaning regime for keeping mice in a fishtank ?
I’ve found you again ,I’m so happy!
Oh lol I was like “hmm I thought I already saw this and liked it lol” then I realized it’s a reupload
