I think it's important to mention that you mix their food with regular "petshop food" and pellets, since mice (and rats/hamsters etc) select their food which usually results in them not getting all the nutrients they need. Petshop foods are usually just fillers (like corn) which isn't gonna keep your mouse healthy in the long run. Whereas pellets contain e-ve-ry-thing they need. So mixing them gives them the best of both worlds; treats and food at all times! :) (Not educating you, just telling your fans in case some people don't know a lot about mice/rats)
My favourite part is when I’ve cleaned and anti-backed their cage and add a layer of absorbent pellets, paper shreddings and then hay! So satisfying to see them all clean and smelling fresh. Nothing nicer than seeing them investigate their new setup!
Actually it is the worst one can do. Mice need the smell of their group to feel home, without that smell they are stressed a lot and it can even couse fights among them. Maybe not in a very tiny enclousure like this one but as soon as you keep them in a real cage you should only clean sections and never everything in one go. Also mice will pee much more to get their smell back to "sign their home" and it will smell way more because of that. They don't do that if you only clean a part of it and leave them some used bedding.
I just brought home a male mouse for my current female to breed with (I have a ball python) and named him Monkey. Unlike some other breeders, I love my mice. I'm working on moving my snake from her 40 gallon tank to a 75, and moving my female mouse into the 40 gallon tank so she's completely comfortable when she lives with Monkey. I'm also cleaning out a 10 gallon tank for a temp cage for Monkey until he settles in with Minnie (the female) since he's currently in a glass carrier. I took him out of a stressful situation. He was at a pet store (not a chain one) as a feeder, and he was in a 10 gallon with 20+ more adult mice. Poor babies Edit: Monkey and Minnie are now living happily together in a 40 gallon tank!
I love how many items you have for them to explore. They will not be bored! (I typically create a “starter” peephole in the middle of a toilet paper roll, as they typically want to gnaw the hole larger, and it is fun seeing the fuzzy snout peeping out.
