When royal said it was a realistic game my very first thought was "oh maybe they will actually make realistic sharks that don't attack humans" and I couldn't have been more hilariously disappointed by the most unrealistic shark behavior I think I have ever seen in a video game.
there will never be sharks in a video game that don't attack you. :( Otherwise what's the point of having them? :( :(

@@zach4279 not as far as I recall... you are a shark, jumping over obstacles, to eat humans. Getting progressively larger with each kill. But I only played the Initial release, the first update may have added other sharks...

When I saw the leopards I knew this game was a joke….but when you made an engine out of two sheet metals and no gas, I was shocked
Maybe they could let him scavenge it from one of the wrecked small boats and use sheet metal to repair it. It still would be meh, but in some universe it's more plausable.

Game has very cool mechanics but severally kills the atmosphere with the book and ease of building things.

Kimono = formal woman's attire in Japan. Komodo = first part of "Komodo Dragon", which is the correct name.
After hearing him say Kimono I decided to google Komodo in a Kimono and the internet did not disappoint. 😆
I was both annoyed and amused by that flub. I had to test myself to see how similar we American's say them, and they are painfully similar and would definitely be tough to determine which we're saying to native speakers of Japanese, or other languages in general. I'm from the opposite corner of the north contiguous states from where Royal is from too, so different word whiskers, cadences and accents apply as well. Kih-mo-no (Kuh sometimes) for the dress and Kuh-mo-do for the dragon is how I say them. But TECHNICALLY there's still a SLIGHT difference haha. Still, I too enjoy eating a well cooked Kimono as my preferred underrated source of fiber in my diet. It's a colorful snack, after all.
I love the simplicity of building, it is easy but everything else with the food and everything evens it out. This game seems right up my alley

I'll go further and say that an island that small wouldn't be able to support a leopard.

There is a very similar story, about a man who crashed landed on an island, only that he was on a dogfight against a japanese dude with a katana, and there was a giant monkey too.

@@sw33tpwny nah really, there were some giant ass lizards that came out of the ground and the monkey killed them, but than the amerikan army came and started bombing the island and the giant monkey started throwing trees and shit at their helicopters.

Honestly it looks more like it will be a chore than fun. I mean diversify your diet... Cool for people who like hardcore survival realism but it might be too much for me to handle.

At 20:18, actually you can shoot arrows with a bow underwater in real life, tho, to be effective you'll need a strong bow thats kinda small and waterproof. A horn bow would very effective at first, but the water will liquify the glue thats holding it together after a for hours. A yew bow (longbow) is too big... But an an oak bow could work and i know there are a bunch of jungle woods that are great too, but im not familiar enough to tell whats best.

Kimono - a long, loose robe with wide sleeves and tied with a sash, originally worn as a formal garment in Japan and now also used elsewhere as a robe.
Komodo - big ass lizard
The constant "low on vitamins" thingie is probably inspired by scurvy that sailors and pirates used to get unless they had access to fruit.
That and rickets. Rickets, what a fun disease to obtain from lack of diversity and vitamins in one's diet. That's a whole different kind of depression though! _wheeze laughs in 1930s murica_
I agree, but that is after a LONG amount of time of just dried meats only. He was eating different meats, coconut, banana, and even an energy bar which usually has vitamins added all within a short amount of time in game and it still happened to him. These devs are taking features from other survival games with nothing new. The survival game, "SCUM" has an insanely complex vitamin/amino system forcing you to diversify your diet, but you can see every one of these nutrient levels in game and all of the food and drink items have labels that tell you what they contain so you know what to search for and ingest. This game just dumbed it way down, turned up the severity to super-max speed, and gave you no way of knowing what you are lacking. The human body by itself makes us crave the things we need. Such as salty, sweet, savory, liquids. (HINT to the devs).

it's funny how in stranded deep with finish with getting into a plane and fly into the horizon, while is Project Castaway we start in a plane, it just feels like a sequel, unless it is, idk if they are from the same creators

watched this whole thing, got excited about the game, checked steam.... SINGLE PLAYER. WE DONT WANNA PLAY THESE TYPES OF GAMES ALONE DEVELOPERS D;
This is a lot like My Island, which came out on Steam a while back. Anyway, much further along. Backpack and Crafting mechanics are better implemented. Grow crops. You can smelt ore, make gunpowder & craft yourself a rifle pretty quickly. Several biomes to choose from at start.
Cost is $15 right now. Beautiful music. It's a very engaging island survival sim from a single developer who's still actively updating the game.

I wouldn't call it hardcore, but it does have difficulty settings and I've been killed fighting crocodiles more times than I can count. I know she's added animals which can be trained to help you travel or fight predators. The raft steering is much easier too 😉
Also, I like the Dolphin Sharks.
Nothing beats stranded deep~ but def seems promising :)

I can't tell if these islands are supposed to be based off a specific real world island chain, if it is supposed to be based off a mix of different ones, or if they're mostly fictional with minimal real world counterparts. Initially I was assuming the Cook Islands, but then that rocky islet with the lighthouse remnant on it defied that, and the Aloe did after, so I figured that guess didn't work. The Komodo Dragon confirmed that suspicion. So... Ryukyu Islands maybe? Are Komodos that far south though and did they swim to farther flung chains or... how did they get there?
What would be cool is to run an experiment where you can test how realistic they've really made the game. Things like tides (high, low and king tides) where you build your shelter initially where you did, at one of the lowest and least protected points on an island and then as you play, you get to see if and thus when the tide cycles hit. Another good little experiment for fun would be to have deforested rather heavily around the Aloe Vera plant to see if it then would slowly desertify that half of the island over time or not. Because if it did, not only would that itself be realistic, alongside rather rapid erosion, but also seeing the spread of Aloe Vera plants would also be realistic at that point, too. Though it obviously would be unlikely they went that far, it certainly would still prove a fun test to be sure. Additionally, it could also inspire them a bit more to implement these things, even if it was as little surprise easter eggs for their more dedicated players to find.
For me, if they truly did make it so that your ultralight aircraft would slowly make it's way up to the beach with the tides and eventually winds, then they have already implemented a mechanic far more realistic and intuitive than any others would have even considered, let alone thought to. That takes a certain genuine dedication, attention to detail and love for what they're doing and the outdoors/nature. Therefore if they did indeed add that in, it would no longer be a stretch to consider the potential for those other things to have in fact, been implemented into the game as well, or perhaps may be in the future.
It DEFINITELY needs to tame those health mechanics though dear lord. Way too rapid and aggressive with the sleep to death as well as the vitamin deficiency stuff. Or if they really hate that idea because they want it to be really punishing/challenging, then at least add different difficulties, or, a menu to customize the gameplay to the players' liking.

Wow, this popped up randomly in my recommended and from the thumbnail I was positive it was Stranded Deep.
I thought the devs must have finally updated it and fixed it or the community released a mod to fix it. But this game looks amazing, maybe even better.

I do always find it funny/frustrating when you become deathly hungry within hours of starting the game! I am too overweight but I could go a week or more with no food and still be fine, I do get the water though
