  • Education in rural India always has been in a precarious state, but with rising school enrolments things were looking better≥ However the ASER 2023 Survey - spanning 26 states and touching close to 35,000 students - has a grim story to tell.
Indian rural youth in the 14 to 18 age bracket .... the same youth who will become the backbone of the labour class - is struggling to even do class 2 level academics and even the most basic of life calculations. If India has to capitalise on its 'demographic dividend' - then there is no getting around solving this problem of rural education ..... here's why

"Technically" this episode makes no sense to do - this topic is not in the "Trends" - this episode may never get the "Views" .... however one promise to Deshbhakt Family - in 2024 - expect to see more such topics on the channel. Will make more from the heart and less from the head - will make episodes that matter to India - not what may 'work'

My father has worked as a teacher and a principal in a higher secondary school (government) in Gujarat for the last 35 years and according to him there were 8 teachers in the school and slowly all retired in the last 20 years and there have been no requirements so far. So now the school is running on temporary teachers only. The case in tribal areas is even worse. I have visited schools where the entire school is running on only 1 teacher, now you can only imagine the education children are getting when 1 teacher is managing 3 classes at the same time.

Hey Akash, today's episode hit close to home. Coming from a privileged background, I had the chance to attend one of the state's top schools. I want to share a story from my school days. In our Telugu class, a friend from my Hyderabadi community, though from a Telugu state, struggled to translate due to our Nizam-influenced background, which wasn't inherently Telugu.
The Telugu teacher made him a laughing stock in class during my 10th-grade year. Despite being in a Telugu-speaking state, many from my community faced language challenges. Frustrated, my friend boldly expressed, "I spent a decade in this school mastering Telugu along with other subjects, yet I struggle to translate a simple Telugu sentence. The remarks made are a reflection of the school's shortcomings, despite its top-ranking status in the state." Unfortunately, his outspokenness led to a month-long suspension for perceived disrespect.
Afterwards, his parents intervened, and he was compelled to apologize to continue attending the school. This incident highlights issues within our education system and the challenges faced by Indian parents, even in top schools in India's fourth-largest city.
It's a reminder of the disparities that may prevail in India's rural areas, where a significant 60% of the total population resides. Despite challenges, stories like this one shed light on the complexities within our educational landscape.

Education has been spread worldwide by religion and its institutions but seldom by kings. In India also, this responsibility since Vedic times was given to Btahimins, Pandits, and Prohits, but unfortunately, they let Hindu society down as we are the most uneducated community in the world today. Brahmins of RSS have made the situation worse ever since they came to power.

Congratulations for doing this episode. I am an avid follower but have never commented. However, this is too close to my heart to let it pass.
In my opinion this issue should not be taken only with reference to the present report. As a teacher and author who has been observing the changes for the past 28 years, many points need to be considered and resolved in tandem to bring about a positive change. Though not exhaustive, here is a list of some problems and remedies:
    1) Teaching should not be considered as a last career option by meritorious students. If it is made competetive and lucrative, it will attract excellence.
    2) Excellence should not be judged by marks alone but also include evaluation of behavioural skills.
    3) The no detention policy has led to dilution of excellence, complacency in students and disarming teachers. Several batches of children have passed out without basic knowledge.
    4) Accountability of teachers with respect to the results may also have triggered unfair practices.
    5) The role of parents in upholding values and methods taught in school is also important. What is taught in school should not get undone at home and vice versa.
    6) There is immense need for investment in infrastructure of schools. Unless all facilities are provided, recognition should be reviewed.
    7) The strength of classes is too high for even the most sincere teachers to do justice to each child. Better infrastructure and hiring regular teachers should be helpful.
    8) Teachers should be actively involved in making changes to policies regarding education, as they are the ones who can judge whether they can be implemented or not.
    9) Additional duties unrelated to teaching given to educators hinders their motivation and efficiency.
    10) Very importantly, people who genuinely have a passion for the profession and can practice what they preach, should become teachers.

As an UPSC student, your every video is working as a revision video, especially education, health, unemployment, and government schemes. If I say it in layman's terms, you are doing a tremendous job. In your recent video, you discuss obligarchy government with Dr. Raghuram Rajan, which is really concerning.

So true... as I am a student myself in 10th... quality of teachers nowdays is getting worse...some new teachers joining in my school and others as well are like... some of us 10th students know better than them... and even in my batch there are students who could not read and do basic maths because of some teachers who don't pay attention to them becuase they think as Everybody goes to tuition they can learn there.
Everybody says to students how do you don't even know this but "jab tak sikhaoge nhi toa kaise aayega!?"
Even me, although I can speak, talk and write proper english but I cannot speak in front of stage because of my stage fear, I tried to participate in events to get rid of this fear but the teachers...rather than teaching us they choose the best same students every year to show the glory of school ...😔
Now education is not a sacred work or about teaching but a business🥲

My cousin who studies in our village school is in 7th but he can't even count numbers above 20. When I asked his teachers why they had been passing him to next class, they told me that they passed him because of 'no-fail' policy of govt. Similarly, CBSE has been continuously reducing the syllabus for 3 years now so that more students would pass. Overall quality of our school education is falling down day by day just to boost the numbers.

Thank you for addressing this problem which has been ruining the quality of education standard in our country especially in primary and below elementary std. Atleast in some of the states the govt is trying to do away with no detention policy but it has already done a serious damage in our country’s quality of education. It’s very pathetic, the quality of education, in most of the public schools. Elementary school students of 5th and 6th std some even 7 th and 8th pupils don’t know how to write all the alphabet properly 😢

Hey AB! Good one! Politicians normally thrive on social engineering models, one of the not so popular one being keeping the population busy to make their ends meet- so that they seldom have time to raise questions as they keep moving from one existential crisis to another!

1.We never become a 5 trillion GDP if INDIA rural area peoples are not educated.
2.Employment:-If there is no job after studying because educated people have the greatest hand in our GDP
3.Farmers issues:-In these days Farmers are attending suicide and there are no helping aid to aiding our farmers but our politician for vote saying 'Jay Jawan Jay Kisan'.
4.Religion conflict:- In these days our godi media just focus upon hindu Muslim , mandir masjid but no media talking about our main issues.

I am from Odisha, our High school teacher recruitment came after 4,5 years, in which almost 25,26k vacancy filled with 3 stages within 6,7 months with urgency..There was no minimum qualifing mark, SC,ST cutoff was in single digit out of 100... Situation is like 1 post per 1.5 candidates available... If such quality teachers got posting in High school that is matriculation, then think about our Quality of education one student will get in our Govt High school.. Last few years our School infrastructure is improving at a rapid pace in Odisha, but quality teacher is absent in our schools...Now a days almost 80pc Students are going to Intermediate college after passing matriculation but the main issue is quality of education they are getting...

Hello Akash sir, I'm from Chhattisgarh ( North Bastar) always watching your informative videos and this not just a report it's a reality of our Rural India especially here in 'Bastar' where I can see the clear difference between the students of 'South Bastar and North Bastar' ( not comparing )and my elder Sister who is a teacher in South Bastar region more than 16 years has always told me about the ground reality of South Bastar's education and how and why the system has failed over there just for votes and their sakes.
And I'm requesting to you please make a video on ' HASDEO BACHO' protest.
    Thank you.
