    I'm noticing that people were concerned about my "more gay things happen," line. I'm sorry that you perceived the use of the word gay as negative, I assure you, it was not used negatively. I am a proud bisexual man. I hope my position is clear now, and people stop policing my speech because I'm not perceived as a member of the alphabet mafia. Thank you, love you. Bye

      Right?! 😄 I LOVE their design.
      A lot of people were making fun of them on Reddit, (cuz they got no visible arms, etc) but you know what?? I think those things are gonna have the last laugh... because I think they are probably way more dangerous than we realize.
      We haven't yet seen what their purpose is. What they can DO. We haven't seen them in their "final form", so to speak. But whatever it is, it probably won't bode well for Humanity.
      We are definitely nearing the last & final prediction given by Rehoboahm: "Extinction"

      They give me a war of the words feel, which is ironic as that's the point we are now at a war for the world between mankind and mankind's children, either co exist or both die. I hope that's just an advanced drone to transport the pearl and not the permanent new body Hale wants the hosts to take ... That is not an upgrade haha. It looks creepy, clunky and has no physical advantages. Even Hale hesitated to transcend. You can tell she was about to put it off before Maeve walked in. Even she prefers her hybrid body that allows her to feel and interact with the world in a natural way.
      Also, it looks quite easy to destroy with a rocket or machine gun, so not a huge improvement. But most of all, no arms? How the hell will they interact with the physical world with just legs? Why not return to the bodies they originally had? My which I mean the early design metal skeleton with silicon skin. If they don't want to look human then no skin needed or add a blank outer layer to the internal skeleton with eyes.
      They were just creepy and unappealing. It it any wonder the hosts don't want them, after all they are our children and built in our image, they want to interact with the natural world!? The bodies they have are better designed for the world they live in.
      That said, for all I know the creepy bodies can change form and are super deadly against humans. They may turn out the most advanced and capable bodies on earth.
      If I was offered immortality in a host body in 2050 or 2060 I'd take it (some sort of long life seems possible by the). If I was offered immortality in something like a terminator body I'd take it. I'd even take it in a drone host body. But those things for all eternity or at least thousands of years? Where the hell is the enjoyment in living haha?

    Bernard had to imply that Stubbs would die because he programmed Stubbs to be his protector in his core. Therefore Stubbs would never have left Bernard alone if he had thought Bernard was going to be in mortal danger. Also - I don't see how Bernard could lie 100 percent about the future to anyone because the hosts have free will and more than amply demonstrated they can change their minds - so it may not be likely that Maeve will live to see her daughter, but he can promise to take her to the Sublime if she's living when it's all over. Also, as Akecheta has said many times - one is never truly dead until the last person who knows them is dead. And just as all the iterations of Dolores have the walled garden memory of Arnold - they also have the walled garden memory of Bernard. Remember, Bernard himself is a copy of someone. All the way down to offering his life to save another species. Death means nothing to the hosts as long as the Sublime exists and someone who knew them.

      @@jonfreeman9682 I believe general consensus is that Stubbs is a host. He managed to get past Hale and escape the island in Season 2 when she hinted at him being a host. If he were human, he would die in a bath tub after the injury. Stubbs puts the tub in Stubbs. Bernard could have scanned and replaced him with a host. If he's still human he should look 23-30 years older that he was back then.

    Glad to see someone else caught the concept of Christina possibly being the “system”. I thought of it as Christina is the “sound”. It’s how she is able to manipulate humans and pass through the city and see everything. A host mind existing as an operating system is or would be a very unique concept. It’s kind of like the guy who claims google is now alive. Hale or Delores/Hale coded her and her boss is the ultimate “if/elif/else” line of code. Of course people like myself can’t help noticing inconsistencies, and there are a lot, but it was an interesting episode.

    • @tembelg.gr.4486
      @tembelg.gr.4486 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In early stages of mind control we had only 7(?) possible actions sound could inflict. Cristina's way of storyteller voice that not just commands basic stuff but creates believable situations for human to react accordingly could be that evolutional step in the technology. And with increased complexity rises chance for self-consciousness?

      v interesting, 2 questions tho: a) at the end of the ep Christina's power was drowned out by the tones suggesting theyre separate and b) at the end the tower was destroyed. If Christina is the system, how does she still exist?

      @@Rammythelogophile Both are good points. Part of my theory is that the tower being destroyed eliminated her ability to transmit the tone. For the last I have to assume that the system itself isn't in the tower as there are multiple parks and the networking infrastructure would be complex and require several server racks. The server farm would be underground with a sophisticated cooling system similar to what we saw in season 2. The fact is the theory doesn't explain Teddy.

    Since I've found your videos I stopped watching other creators who basically just provide an overview of the episode with minimal value added. You do a really fantastic job providing additional insight in your videos, so thank you!
    That said I believe a couple of *LARGE* points were missed here. You did a really good job in the previous episode of calling out that the lab Caleb fights the hostbot in his quest to escape is the exact room Christina worked/works in. And that was then a lab. But "then" was only a couple of days ago considering that version of Caleb sent Frankie the message and now here she is. But at the same time, this is the building and floor Christina has been working in and we see her on that floor this episode and it is NOT a lab.
    Furthermore, right after Frankie and Stubbs leave the man in black to die, they go through a corridor, and after they round a bend, the shot remains there for a couple of seconds and Christina and Teddy walk into the frame from exactly the direction Frankie and Stubbs came from. Now unless Stubbs got a lobotomy, or the four of them all bumped into each other, said a polite "pardon me" and moved on, we're looking at shenanigans here with Christina's timeline or with there being a simulation/multiverse of sorts.

    • @gillianboate
      @gillianboate 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One thing on the message, if you don't mind the additional thoughts?
      The way I read it, Charlores was only ever going to *record* whatever message Caleb wanted to send at the time (timeline of it being recorded could have been anywhere in the last 20ish years, she could have foreseen exactly when to tell him it was, too); I suspect she only *broadcast* the audio to Frankie when she was ready to lure in the outliers with it (she had already decided it was the last day when she spoke to Caleb about Frankie coming for him).
      In terms of what this means for the office/floor space being used differently, as an option outside one being a sim and the other real. Her trials with Caleb could have been all but finished long before she was creating/guiding Christina, and Caleb was in another room from where Christina worked, he could have been in stasis (if human) or powered down (if host) till being put in that room as live bait.

    We are shown a scene from Teddy's perspective when he's calling to Christina in the bathroom, which seems like it would be stretching things if he's just an aspect of her bicameral mind. Also Bernard told Akecheta he couldn't complete the path he wanted without help, which sort of sounded like he could be asking to recruit one or more hosts from the Sublime. So guessing Teddy is really the Sublime version and not a creation of Dolores/Christina's mind.

    Season 3, episode 2 has Mave in a Simulation.
    Note: there is no screen ratio changes while in the simulation.
    This brings the possibility that ALL the Christine story lines are occuring in the future and is based on past events.
    The primary goal is to reawaken Delores?

    From the previously released trailers, we do know Hale is in the Hoover Dam area shooting at someone (probably William). Its possible that she's been re-uploaded into a copy of her body. Its also very likely that the message Bernard is leaving on the tablet is actually for her, for Hale. (He also left the gun for her). It would be a redemption moment for her to preserve the Sublime servers from William and "activate" Delores/Christina somehow so that in the future, Delores can "save" both humanity and the hosts (which is what I believe we're seeing with the Christina arc).

    • @KabbalahSherry
      @KabbalahSherry 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I THINK THIS TOO. ☝🏽😃💯
      We see Hale holding a mind pearl in her hand, in the trailer for the finale as well. I think she watches Bernard's message, has a change of heart... and realizes that she's gonna need Maeve to help her, if she wants their kind to have any sort of future.

    • @svaln23
      @svaln23 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This. He certainly left that message for Halores. In the trailer for episode 8 it's obviously her hand holding Bernard's tablet (dark skinned woman hand in the glove, exactly the same gloves that Halores on the dam from the season official trailer wears and the same Tessa Thompson in the interview wears). So it's her listening to his message, so she is being the one Bernard intended to send it (I doubt he spent 30k years in the Sublime for it to just land in the wrong hands). Or at least he left it to someone in Halores body (Christina?), but I doubt it.

    "Do you understand now, where all this is going?" repeated again and again. Why? Poetic effect? To remind us that the end is near for Bernard? Or to explore and clarify paths already taken but yet to be revealed?
    Is it possible that Bernard's msg was intended for himself? Real-world time is linear but not in the sublime. Could the msg from the sublime therefore, be delivered to Bernard in real life or vice versa.
    I accept that we see Hale's hands with the tablet containing Bernard's msg in the promo, however, perhaps another copy of Hale has simply discovered it/come across it after the fact.
    As far-fetched as it sounds, I'm starting to suspect Barnard made copies of Frankie and everyone else - because maybe the only way forward is saying goodbye to host and human forms as we know them to exist in the real world now.
    Maybe the hope for survival in the next world necessitates the extinction of what is - and requires a "blood sacrifice" (so to speak);
    Maybe then a small mixed and select few can enter the door to the sublime. Both Hosts and Human consciousness. Then and only then is there going to be hope for the survival of both human and host moving forward.
    Christina though.. I am just so so lost with what is going on there. I'm hoping that the next episode will be the episode that makes everything beautifully connect and fit into place in true Westworld style.
    Totally with you on the many odd moments in this episode. The Frankie/Caleb reunion felt odd; Maeve's death felt untimely and not in a heart-felt, moving way. Even the Christina bath scene - as beautiful as it was, it didn't seem to really move anything forward plot-wise. Something is off, or there is some major mind effery at play this episode.

    Not sure if you chatched it, but I thought the scene with William and host-William was a call back to season one, when Dolores talked to Arnold. "Do you know who you have been talking to this whole time", Dolores realizes that the innervoice was herself and consciousness was born. This might be the 2nd successful transfer from human to host? I think season 5 will be the redemption story of William and hopefully Jimmi Simpson will return! Why look like an old guy, if you have a host body. And it would be a very poetic ending to the story!
    Tho, what do I know. Anyway great video as always!

    Not only did this episode confirm that for me, but I found it VERY interesting, that Bernard scanned Frankie, back in episode 6.
    She asked him why... but he wouldn't tell her.
    Well, I think he knows that this world is at an end, and that none of the Humans are going to survive. However, some might be able to download their consciousness into the Sublime, and live again, through it.

    Though I found myself disagreeing with your final point about William slightly. I also found it disappointing, but not because it felt like they forced him into the bad guy role or took away his free choice.
    I felt that it actually demonstrated his ability to choose. In life, William repeatedly choose to hurt others in pursuit of his own desires. He learned to choose that and despite there being consequences (relationships with his wife and daughter and his own guilt) he never chose to learn another way.

    Just me but it still drives me batshit crazy that since S2 the show has been freely alternating between copying/cloning consciousness creating a new individual and "transferring" it with implied continuation of the individual depending on what is convenient to the plot, without offering the slightest hint of what the difference is. I still have no idea what exactly is being transferred - what is being done that actually transcends copying code. I'd be happy to buy any explanation - consciousness creating an emergent "soul" than can be moved somehow or whatever, but not even a handwavy one is ever given.

    The armless drone could just be a physical storage unit for the pearl, while the pearl contents get e-mailed over to a virtual server. Bernard sent his mind to the Sublime using that headband/USB dongle LOL. The difference is that Bernard can e-mail his mind back to his body and return to the physical world. For Transcendent hosts, this trip is one way. If they somehow download their minds back into their pearl, that pearl doesn't have access to arms, or anything for printing a new flesh body.

    I love that they show us Bernard didn't just "see" versions of the future but he lived them all. If this version was real world, then we know Bernard perhaps saw beyond his death in these senarios, hence planting the gun in the tunnel for an unknown to us reason. The transcendence was weird and off. I don't know why Hale would want her hosts out of the cities, but then put them in new bodies and send them back? I'm hoping those bodies have cool effects or capabilities that would make it a worthwhile change and a true upgrade.
    It could be that some of this episode was a version in the Sublime and some was real. Light changes and back and forth idk it felt different than the others but I hope the finale ties it all together ❤

    I think Bernard was always going to have the measure of Maeve wrong because he’s been working on a copy of his perception of her throughout all his simulations in the sublime. And ultimately, she was the first host that Caleb infected all this years ago after the events of S3; she cares about humanity because of this but Bernard never witnessed it. I think she would have helped him even knowing that she’d be dooming herself

    Some theories I have heard that seem to fit are that the Christina/Teddy scenes have all been taking place since Bernard opened The Sublime. It seems to make the most sense of what is going on here.
    I also truly believe Caleb is back in human form. I don't think that's the host version of him, but I could be wrong. Your theory is also very plausible.
    Last thing I had to add: There's absolutely no reason to waste scenes on C & her GF's relationship unless it has meaning next episode. I'm still convinced her GF has been infected by the flies and is part of Hale's plan. There is no other reason to show that "safe place" scene.

    • @gillianboate
      @gillianboate 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm with you on Caleb being the original (or if not that, an encrypted fidelity passing copy Maeve made which Hale couldn't re-create).
      Also with you on the C and Adina foreshadowing a betrayal (I can't quite remember who/what exactly, but the safe place line is pinging another memory, perhaps Dolores and Hale-copy before she turned?); though I of course wonder if that's what they want us to think by including those scenes so they can surprise us; edina could be an outlier host to something?!
      I think Frankie may die, oddly a fair bit because of the few interviews I've seen of showrunners etc. They seem to be bordering on overly full of praise for the actor playing Frankie, and it sort of suggests she might be a one season and done character; the pertinent question (or rather, the important choice) that could remain, may be, will Caleb be willing to participate in a world where he doesnt have someone else to live for besides himself?

      I think the world really IS coming to an end.

William had previously said Halores' world had great beauty and was designed perfectly. He now wants to destroy it all. That is a complete 180. Bernard's message before he died was 100% for Halores so the change could be Halores becoming more like Delores instead of Hale. but I still think the change of heart is about William. I'm pretty sure that absolutely everything Bernard has done since waking up has been with a specific purpose. That includes that uncomfortable scene with Maeve. Given how long he had to try permutations, he will have had time to carefully select words and actions. It wouldn't surpise me to find out that much of the bizarre prophet behaviour (and other things) is simply planting butterflies which will later go on to influence other events in subtle ways. Like, perhaps, talking just long enough at the right time so that a fight happens just at the right time in just the right place for Frankie to hear Caleb's message.
    I figure we've also got some element of non-linear storytelling involving memories. Like from the first season.
    I'm also wondering if there's some sort of Thirteenth Floor recursive simulation element going on. And, if so, how far down the turtles go. And, if so, how much Bernard knows about it.

    I felt like Maeve's death was wasted being shot like that, given she's hyped up being the weapon yet we did not see her doing any of her power after her return. Which made me think into a whole new perspective.
    In episode 3, when Stubbs asked Bernard about the key to saving the world, Bernard says "she is" and points to Frankie.
    My guess is, it's NOT about saving the world but more of "the key" to saving it, which is Frankie. What if Bernard's plan was actually to keep Frankie alive all along (at least until he died). Think about it, if Bernard had not intervene the two host at the diner, Frankie would have been dead. If Frankie had gone to the city to save the outlier, she would also probably be dead or replaced. The whole Maeve's thing being the weapon could be possibly a ploy for Bernard to keep Frankie stay close to him. He knew she was also looking for Caleb, but digging up Maeve was enough to keep her around. Like Bernard scanning Frankie, it could be simply that Bernard play out for a time. He knew there is a mole and Maeve would have already been awake by then to kill them. Lastly, he sent Stubbs to go with her to find Caleb and of course to protect her.
    In season 3 which also in episode 7, when Dolores went to Solomon to retrieve one final strategy, Solomon noted "that protect the most people" and Dolores asked for Caleb to be included. Later in the finale, Rehoboam predicted the collapse of humanity in about 23 years which probably quite a bit off but close enough I think. Interestingly Stubbs says, "I'm waiting 23 years for this" (lol he just want to retire). So if Caleb died that means his descendant who will have to continue his role which is Frankie, or maybe host Caleb still has a role to play.

      I like this idea. Bernard:
      - killed 2 hosts at the diner and prevented the infiltration of the rebels to protect Frankie - they could have killed everybody.
      - prevented Frankie from going to the city on the extraction mission with others - Hale could have captured or replaced her.
      - dug up Maeve and lured Frankie into the old Golden Age park where she could have heard Caleb's message and be protected by Maeve while he could scan her and upload into the Sublime.
      - sent Stubbs to protect Frankie on her mission to the city to find Caleb.
      - sent a message to someone in the Sublime who will continue to protect Frankie after Bernard's own death. That's either Stubbs or Bernard's copy himself. Hale is reading the tablet by accident, the message is not meant for her.
      Frankie must be important because she's an outlier. Perhaps, Hale could solve her outlier problem by capturing/killing Frankie and postpone the transcendence of all hosts.

      Cuz remember that Bernard scanned Frankie?? She asked him why he did it... but he never gave her an answer. Just said "it's complicated". He didn't want her to know that everybody is going to die, and that the only way anybody can have a future, is in the virtual space of the Sublime.

BUT in the episode 8 trailer we see Hale at the Hoover shooting backwards. AND by the way Bernard put the gun to the RIGHT, not the left, if one is entering the sublime. But if one is guarding the sublime from someone like Hale - then it would be on their LEFT. I don't like William being the hero of the game - he hasn't earned it. And we do know after the extinction event that William is sent into multiple simulations where he murders his daughter over and over - so I'm not so sure that Hale solved the human/host transference completely.

    I think the idea that Christina is the system definitely tracks, but I wouldn't give up on William/MIB's storyline just yet. As Hax points out, alpha William baited host William, and talked him out of question the nature of his reality. I'm still fingers crossed that host William will recognize that this wasn't what he wanted and will back down/change course/go another way in the finale. In terms of how off Bernard seems throughout, I think that is intentional. He is contemplating his own actual death and the annihilation of both his species and the humans they've trapped. And he is being shady, which isn't really his strong suit, in the hopes of saving a small piece of the world. Seems like Jeffrey Wright is letting those layers of anxiety and uncertainty through in an amazing way.

    The only want I have that won’t be satisfied is a better executed reveal for the suicidal hosts. I think they dropped the ball by not including a new host (or maybe Clementine???) to give us perspective into one of the “infected hosts” and what goes on in their head leading up to the suicide and then that be acknowledged by Caleb. I feel like it would have made the reveal hit harder. They tried with that first host but to me, that was more of an opener for the topic. Too mysterious to be satisfying context.

    • @MarttyMarty

      And to expand on this a little for those interested or bored enough to read this:
      It could have given us much more satisfying context to how the human park works too.
      And I would think a brand new character would be best because as Charlores stated she sees them as her children and it would have been so nice to get to see her bond with a brand new one just for them to be “infected” and kill themself. That would give Hale a stronger motivation to close the parks and enforce her transcendence.

    "A series of Bernards happening over and over again."
    Bernard basically does the same thing as host Caleb in the Fidelity episode. It took 23 years and several generations of host Caleb's instances working together to pass only a few bits of knowledge to the next generation to finally achieve one common goal - reach the roof and send the message. And It took 1000s of years in a simulation and countless Bernard's generations to achieve their much more complex goal - save the world. Only host Caleb 279 reaches the goal and lives. But is there Bernard X to reach his and still live? If Sublime is still operational by that time there should be. I think episodes 1-7 could be interpreted as the 2nd to last (last-1) Bernard's attempt that fails, and in episode 8 in his final attempt he will succeed. He woke up from the Sublime 2 times - there were 2 consecutive shots.
    Also Bernard is a leftie:
    - tern left on the fork
    - reach with your left hand

    The real Chekov's gun is Fidelity. We have been teased with this since season 2 so at some point it has to be reached. The irony is that Hale was not trying to reach Fidelity she was just trying to see his end game as an outlier.

      I think Hale cracked the code, which is why...
      We see Bernard scanning Frankie's mind, back in episode 6. She asked him why he did it, but all he would tell her is "It's complicated". 😬🤖
      I think Humanity really IS gonna lose... and that the only way for anybody to make it, will be to escape to The Sublime.
      Which is why Bernard left the door open.
      He knew that he was gonna die, and that people (Host OR Human), would need to escape in there, to hide from the Apocalyptic "game" that The Man in Black is now playing. But he's the only one w/the key to open it up, so... he made sure that he did, before kicking the bucket.
      We're getting closer & closer to Rehoboham's final predictions:
      "Population Collapse" & "Extinction".

  • @philliplc
    @philliplc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Still sticking with early predictions - Christina is some sort of AI hybrid between Dolores and Rehoboam (or Soloman) resulting from their hookup that Hale was using to script and control humans in her park, apparently running in a mirror simulation of the real world. And Maya is a mature rendition of Maeves daughter over from the Sublime working with Teddy to wake the Dolores part of the hybrid.

    The thing about the arms is in my opinion I believe that those new hosts without arms are actually just transition vessels because you don't see them anywhere else other than that room where the host are supposed to be transitioning to a new whatever. What if those bodies are just Transportation vessels to the machine that hail built for the hosts to transcend we already know that the hosts perceive time differently and can go through many years in a day or two in our real world Bernard went through Millennia in 20 years so it's not unfeasible to think that those are just Transportation vessels to give the posts time to be acclimated to their new world

    "backstopped" is an interesting choice of words. They could have written "covered from behind", "making sure our 6 is covered", or "I'm the rear guard", just a whole host (hehe) of possibilities. They chose "backstopped", which, from a phonetical perspective, isn't all that far from "backed-up". Just a thought.

    The message Bernard left was for either Frankie or hale, but leaning for hale. We have seen shots of hale and Frankie wearing gloves with the fingers out. Person who is holding the tablet in the trailer for next episode. Also Bernard mentions in the same trailer for next week in his message that this is the world she created. Based on all of that, plus the scene of hale at the damn in all black with a gun, hale in her red dress being picked up by a drone host, that hale will come back to help fight the man in black and help with Bernard’s plan.

    Interesting that the sublime was so important that Hale made sure to keep it around... yet not important enough that it is just left wide open for the characters to enter it and open the door. (ignoring the battle bot that is posted there of course). Why aren't there a few hosts/guards there? Seems to be more or less the case with the tower as well.
    Leads me to think it may not be what it seems.

      At least in the Matrix films the transition from reality to simulation was a bit 'risky' and limited in duration. This just seems a bit off in a way that I can't quite put my thumb on.

    I think Bernard in real world is leaving message for Bernard in simulation. It's like in TeneT temporal pincer movement. He run simulation for half of the plan. Then executes that half and gives feedback to simulation so later half can be simulated and then executed. Since Sublime is now unlocked maybe from the gate will appear new Bernard and Maeve(now with more fidelity) with information what happened

      I had similar idea on my mind, BUT... as he's recording this message, I think - also after seeing promo for last episode - this is just the very moment when he knows its the end for him. But when he talks with Aki and replies "Yes" for "have You seen how it ends?" i take it as he have seen what happens after his "death". "Its a shame Youre gonna miss it" says Billiam... but I think Bernie wont miss it. Somehow. Somebody will come for his pearl to the tower (it wasnt destroyed entirely, only antenna) and bring it back to Sublime.
      And the message (promo: "this isnt the world You wanted, but the one You created") on tablet - it'll be played by Halores or Cookie. What happens next - have no idea.

    Why would you need arms if you can control everything with your mind? It's like the Geth.
