How can you not like this channel. None of us are perfect or know everything..It’s nice to see this lady take risks and give so much in everything she does.
Good morning Michelle Ernie from NYS. Best of luck to your husband Steve to make a full recovery from knee surgery. 6 1/2 years ago I tripped broke a femur, hip, and have made a full recovery. Steve should follow the Doctor and therapist instructions while exercising everyday. It took me almost a year to make a full recovery through aggressive exercise everyday which I continue to follow.
What you need is the angle brackets that are on a flat plane, instead of a flat bar bent at an angle. Then you screw to the stud and put 2x2 and screw it to the brackets where it is out on the floor. Then screw your plywood to those 2x2 (or whatever size) strapping. Maximum strength met.
Those vertical cuts with a circular saw are not easy. especially when you cant get enough of the saw table on the stud to keep it square to the work. great work as usual!
Greetings! I admire your willingness to tackle just about anything, and you’re creating good results. I would advise either a couple wooden 45-degree supports under the stove shelf, or a single metal brace similar to the current ones, but with its own 45-degree metal brace, located centrally. On your window issue, rather than shaving the downslope, consider shaving the center support. You’d have to figure out whether the center post or the window is out of square, but it might be the post, given you have a gap at the bottom but not the top. And if the window slides left, it solves tightness at the top. You’ll figure out some solution, and it’ll work, but some are easier that others! Good luck and well wishes for Steve’s knee.
I love the bluette power station, and the little stove. It takes two people to move my wood stove. I'm wishing Big Steve a complete and speedy recovery.
A good way to trim that top truss is too draw a straight line then set the skill saw to the depth of the line and cut into the line leaving thin slices of wood which can be easily chipped out hope this helps 😊
Love to help with your windows, as I'm sure would millions of people, but I'm in the UK. 😕 I'm sure you'll be sorted before the bad weather comes in. Hope Steve makes a full recovery soon. I bet it's hard to keep him resting. All the best from all your friends in the UK.
Love the new truck. Be patient. Been in commercial construction for 30 years. Nothing is ever quick or easy. You got this. Love your content. Sorry to hear about Steve.
My heart goes out to Steve, I know what he must be feeling. I managed to tear a meniscus in one knee and broke the other while I was in my 20’s. Now that I’m in my 70’s ... ouch! Wishing Steve a speedy recovery. Have you considered leaving the solar panels plugged into the battery system and having them inside, facing out the glass doors. Some power should be captured if only from reflection off the water. I hope you, Steve and your furry pack enjoyed a blessed Thanksgiving Day and another great week filled with gentle seasonally appropriate weather and restful evenings. Greetings from the southeastern shore of the Great Swamp Erie. Peace princess
Get well soon Steve 👍.The window test fit looks pretty close....and yes, it looks like a little shaving up at the peak might get it. Cheers from Georgia 😊.
I just want to wish Steve a healthy and speedy recovery! I can not emphasize enough what an amazing human being you are Michelle ❤. Progress is shining through with the cabin. Thank you and stay safe in your travels my friend, we are so very blessed to know you 🙏
You are good with handling pulleys. You can get heavy duty eye bolts to sink into window frame on two sides to pull window into place, building extra framing around window to transport down the hill.
My scheduled changed. Got on here and you have a new video! 😮😃👍 What a neat cabin in a beautiful location. Never gets old seeing the views. 🤤 My wife asked me if I'd seen the dog bowl. I said had no idea he did 😆 Speedy recovery Steve!
Greetings Michelle. You are quite the carpenter. And you know the importance of taking the time to figure things out. Hoping hubby gets feeling better soon. Thanks for sharing and have a grand and wonderful day.
That view looking down to the water from your cabin, man that never gets old. I could set there for hours and just enjoy the beauty of it all. If i lived closer i would help you with those darn windows. Tell Steve to get well soon so he can help you. Jay from central Pa.
For the cantilevered stove shelf, you should get flat L brackets rather than then bent ones. They will be better for your purposes and less likely to droop over time. Or use some timber screws to attach the horizontal supports to the inner side of the 2x4 studs. Just a suggestion.
I would use plywood panels for the windows for a temporary fix and get the higher-priority items in so you can stay in the cabin. They can be unscrewed when you're ready to install the glass windows and trim. Also a bit late when watching a video that you have already completed a task, but would it not have been easier to make the stove base a little larger or however you are going to mount it as opposed to cutting 2x4's? Just make it stout so the stove/fireplace doesn't fall.
Ha! Stop contemplating and just do it! I should say that to myself more! Love your videos, so happy you took us part way on the way home! Yikes that bridge didn't look wide enough for your new truck! And the tunnels. Very cool scenery! ❤ get better soon Steve!
Well Michelle I hope Steve has a speedy recovery, and as for you nice work on the cabin it's coming along nicely, and a head rub for all your four-legged friends🐶🐿, be safe see when you post your next video
Wishing Steve well with his recovery. Been thru that. Tore both my meniscus and my Patella tendon in Jan. Still recovering. Surgery was in March. Loving your cabin build!!
Love the videos, speedy recovery for Steve! A flat bottom bulk bag would be a huge accessory to the skyline. A bucket's handle is notorious for coming undone when overloaded.
My knee has been bothering me as well for the past couple of weeks. I had surgery on mine way back in 2000. I try to avoid working on my knees as must as possible. The pain was not going away so got a knee support and wife suggested aspire cream which is worked great so far. I hope it goes away so I don't have to go into surgery again
Hi Michelle. I'm a bit confused why you didn't drop the cement board behind the stove. You need at least 7/8" air gap behind the STOVE to the guard/shield. I would use gussets to support that stove shelf. If you're running out of time block the window holes for now. You can then at least use the cabin. If I wasn't 1500 km away from you, I'd be happy to give you hand. You are awesome! Poor Steve. Keeping up with you and his girlfriends is really playing a toll on him. Hope he comes around quick. All the best!
If it weren't for the distance I'd gladly give you all the time you need to work on all those projects, even though it's so damn awesome how you get to do so much. Wishing Steve a strong recovery, bless you guys much love.
Hey Michy, even if you may not accomplish all you had wanted before you both head off back to the boat, like always I find it absolutely stunning how much you do accomplish 🤩 all on your own out there on the cliff. Best of wishes to Steve's knee! Take it easy and take your rehab excercise seriously. Best of wishes from across the water! 😍
That sucks on the window opening😩I didn’t realize you had to drive over that bridge and through a tunnel in the mountain ? Holy moly. The cabin is coming along and looks amazing! Sorry to hear about Steve’s knee, but at least it’s done and will be 100% for the boat trip.
You put the window wood up on framing that was there. I talking about the ood you put up can be unscrewed and the hole would be bigger would it not?@@michygoss7148
Wonderful video I really enjoy when you do an off day video! You are doing a great job on that cabin. I hope Steve's knee is better looking forward to you bringing the boat to it's home port video as much as you can stay safe. MLR
Michy, Your ingenuity and "can do" spirit always inspire me. I wonder if using angle iron braces above the stove platform will stabilize it and keep you from needing to install anything below the stove? That would keep that area free for storing your firewood. I hope Steve mends fast knowing how much he is looking forward to getting back on his dream boat soon. Thanks for being you, it is such a delight to watch your projects and pets including wild cliff dwelling friends like Johnny and Cache.
Ya I’m still mulling over a few ideas and will keep reading peoples suggestions too, so I appreciate this!! Thank you! Steve is doing ok - he’s doing a lot though so is actually a bit more sore than he thinks he should be 😬
Michelle, best wishes to Steve for a speedy recovery. I had that same surgery 11 years ago, and it took about 3 weeks to heal to about 80%. Hopefully his recovery doesn’t impact your Asia trip!
Hope Steve recovers quickly. On another note...looks like there's a lot of wind up there. Have you considered installing a small wind turbine on a pole to charge your power station when you don't have much sun?
Hope Steve has a speedy recovery! On those little brackets, you definitely want a 45 degree brace under there. Whether it be wood or some other shelf bracket. Those "L"s will just bend once overloaded.
I have the exact same pull saw. It's a great tool! Hope Sreve recovers fast & you can get the windows installed. Old Dutch Ketchup chips are great. Have you tried the Miss Vickies Spicy Ketchup? Very good!
