@@ldbsdk Thanks Lennon! We took local buses in Managua, as well as walked through neighbourhoods and felt fine. People also don't like you taking photos/footage in Managua either, so be mindful of that. We recommend spending more time outside of Managua because there are plenty of breathtaking places to visit across the country. Have a great trip!

Hi Jay and Jon, You have posted so many great videos which are very helpful for the travelers. Most people try to avoid Managua as it was very unsafe from mind, it seems very safe in the capital now from your video. Any recommendation for one night stay, the location and place for visit?
We are so glad to hear that you have found our videos helpful! Managua is not as unsafe as many would think, but there are still areas that are best to avoid. We also have a website that has destination guides for a number of cities, including accommodation recommendations. Here is the Managua guide: jjbucketlisttravellers.com/managua-nicaragua-destination-guide/ (the accommodation section is towards the end). It will depend on your budget and we have chosen a range across all budgets in the guide.
Expats will visit Managua around once a month for shopping as it has everything you need. There is also administrative stuff if you need to sort out residency / visa extensions. If you aren't going to be in Nicaragua for long then we would recommend spending more time outside of Managua.
Thank you @Patadeperro719, I'm really happy you mentioned this. I put a lot of thought into the background music and it is a beautiful and meaningful song.
I've been enjoying your videos, I think that you are lovely couple. FYI: since 2009 I made my first purchase on Amazon a MS kinet, most independent sellers from Amazon and eBay do ship to Nicaragua; either from the USA, Canada and even Australia. But it takes between 10 to 21 days to arrive, that has been my own experience. It's kind of funny that the mail delivery person even says hello in the street.
Hi Peter, thanks for watching and leaving a comment. That's good to know. We researched it when we were there and the best we could find was some middle man approach that added on a fair bit more charges. We also weren't sure of the postal service. Our only experience was getting a package from Australia 4 months after it was sent. It arrived, so that's the main thing!
We had looked at airbnbs and we found a number of decent ones for around US$30-US$35 per night. We would look around the Los Robles area, which is close to good nightlife and restaurants. Managua is very spread out, so to get to the Malecon you probably would need a taxi or take a local bus (for a fun local experience!). Have fun!
I'm sure it would work! It certainly helps knowing some spanish, because not much English is spoken outside of Managua, Leon, Granada and San Juan Del Sur.
HI guys! My son is dating a young lady from Nicaragua. (She is from the capitol city.) They are both college freshmen. He is bringing her home for the first time for Thanksgiving. What are some things I can do, to make her feel welcome? What are some important things to know about their culture. He said she is very shy, and speaks broken English, which she is self conscious about. I just want to make a good impression! Thank you!!!
Hi Amber, that is so thoughtful of you! One thought is to make some Nicaraguan food to complement thanksgiving. 'Gallo pinto' should go well as a side with anything and you should try 'Tres Leches' (made for special occasions in Nicaragua) as one of your desserts. It is soo delicious and isn't too hard to make! If you are able to learn a bit of spanish (duolingo is great with the basic vocabulary) that will also show that you are putting in an effort. For bonus marks, learn some Nicaraguan slang , e.g. 'tuani' and 'deyacachimba' both mean 'awesome/cool'!
Yay ! Vegetarian platter !? Looked yummy ! I was wondering if they've got any vegan / vegetarian friendly places in Nicaragua. Turns out there are more than I expected !! 👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎶✈️🇳🇮💞
It certainly was! Whilst we basically lived on Nicaraguan food while we were there, it was nice to be able to mix up the cuisine when we were in Managua.
Managua is hotter than Florida in our experience. However Nicaragua has a range of different climates - the northern highlands has quite mild weather but most other places in Nicaragua are generally hotter than Florida.
Hi Hellen, thanks for your feedback. You might be interested in another of our videos where we put together a driving tour that shows a bit more of the city: th-cam.com/video/uAs4zFeYBEg/w-d-xo.html
We didn't have any issues when we lived there for 18 months. Funnily enough, the only food poisoning I got was self inflicted, when I left my own cooked food out in the tropical heat too long!
Hi Dovy Goodguy, there's a lot of services that provide home delivery as a lot of people don't have cars in Nicaragua. Getting a driver is also very inexpensive or if you don't feel like shopping yourself there are people that will go to the shop for you (for a fee of course). There are also fruit and vegetable vendors that go door to door selling fresh produce that was bought at the markets in Managua. We didn't have a car when we were in Nicaragua and it was very easy to get most things.
@@BucketListTravellers Whew....that's interesting. That weather issue though can be a big obstacle for people who both don't want to live in the mountains and can't take the heat, unless they are confined to their home for weeks on end with their air conditioners. Heaven knows how mankind survived these regions before the invention of air conditioning and cars....... ;-)
@@dovygoodguy1296 you get used to it after a while... now we're home in Australia and we're wearing winter clothes in summer. We got by with just using fans and swimming in the pool a lot. Although when we were in the hottest region, Leon, we did make a bee-line for cafes with air conditioning!
@@BucketListTravellers Good to know. I always figured there had to be some kind of option for people who don't have a car and want more than Uber, i.e. a driver/someone to accompany you to handle pickups, heavy packages, bring them home etc. Probably especially in Granada. If I don't have much time, I'd want to be in Granada. I suppose expats have to also deal with the issue of import taxes on things they order that we generally take for granted like a laptop and tons of other stuff through Amazon (if Amazon gets to Nicaragua).
Hi David, thanks for watching. I'm assuming that you are planning to travel to Nicaragua, apologies if not. If you have limited time in Nicaragua, we recommend spending it outside of Managua. For those living in Nicaragua, Managua is best for shopping (getting things that aren't available in the smaller towns) and for a more diverse food scene, as we alluded to in the video. We have another Managua video where we talk a bit more about the town and history , that may appeal: th-cam.com/video/tsyk3-JLHBE/w-d-xo.html
It is hot and steamy all the time unless it rains, so wear something that breathes! You are going in the wet season, so have some wet weather gear on hand too. It typically rains in the afternoon so you have all morning if you want to head outdoors. Have a great time!
I like your content, but a bit disappointed with this specific video. I thought it would show more places of Managua that are worth checking out, but it ended up being a food review video.
Hi @robertchetwynd2038, thanks for watching! We filmed this during COVID, so it wasn’t surprising to find the restaurant quieter than usual. This spot likely has the best sushi in Managua, though it’s pricey for locals and primarily caters to international travellers. We also found another excellent sushi place in Managua called Sushi Excellencia, which is more affordable and has great quality.
Hi @mrbutch308, thanks for sharing your thoughts. Managua is an acquired taste and not for everyone. If you only have limited time in Nicaragua there are plenty more fascinating locations to visit.
expat from san juan del sur.---------. Is a fun day going to managua.. shopping, restaurants, movies. however, waking up everyday at playa marsella is hard to beat. i would not live in managua.
We were in Nicaragua at the beginning of the pandemic, when there was a lot of conflicting advice going around. At that time we were being extra cautious, as were many of the locals.
@@dovygoodguy1296 at the time we thought it was better safe than sorry... getting sick in a country where you don't speak the language is not fun - I got sick in India once and when I told someone I was sick they thought I followed the Sikh religion - the words sound the same, but the meaning is very different 😅
@@BucketListTravellers Whew....I get the picture.....I am starting to wonder whether we're getting to a stage where American and Canadian expats will be deemed political REFUGEES and get residency in various countries that way.
@@dovygoodguy1296 not sure about North Americans, but we're Australians and we got locked out of our own country for 2 years as borders closed. We contemplated whether we'd be able to get refugee status given our home country wouldn't let us back in. We were very grateful that Nicaragua kept extending our visas as we had nowhere else to go.
We were surprised at how much variety there was in Nicaragua food. There are some similarities to Mexican food, like enchiladas, but it generally isn't as spicy. Enjoy!
I travel the world over and I appreciate all these people doing content for others - however I have a question - how difficult is to learn how to say the names of these places in a more local like language? I feel like you should ask local people how to pronounce these names. I mean, there are a lot of people butchering these names ughhrrrrr. I know you don’t speak the language but try asking people for the right pronunciation. Trust me, it is easier than you think. Just saying.
Hi there, thanks for watching and your honest feedback. Looking back at some of our earlier Nicaragua videos, our butchering of the language was very cringeworthy. We do aim to get the pronunciation right but not always successful.
@@BucketListTravellersthank you for taking the time to reply. I live in the states and Americans hate when we (Spanish people) butcher names in English because of our accents so I feel it is only fair that English speaking people also try to say names correctly. It is simply respectful. Maybe I just think it is so easy to say names in Spanish that I cringe every time I hear Anglos saying names in Spanish. Thanks for the video of Nicaragua. I can’t wait to visit.
@@arjrpr11 We agree with you completely. Nicaragua is amazing, you'll love it! P.S. In case you watch more of our Nicaragua videos, apologies in advance for butchering the name 'Nicaragua'. It took 5 months living there to finally get it right. 🙄

Watched your video in the Intercontinental Hotel, and ate Sushi at Nau lounge. Very good and fair price, especial considering it is in a Luxury hotel. How could you recommend Cafe Sisu? Impossible to find, took me over an hour. Even the police had no idea where it was, nor did over 10 people we asked on the street. They don't answer there phone. I found it because I went to there web site which gave semi clear directions. It is located inside a complex where you have to walk through a phone provider store, and an out door theater to reach it. No signs outside. They only speak Spanish, the menu is on a chalk board at the counter. No waiter service you order the food at the counter and they bring it to you. Small portions, food was salty. Not expense, but most restaurants are 50 to 75 percent less expense then USA . You could of found a better place. You need to be more careful with recommendations as you loose your credibility as a travel blogger.
Hi there, thanks for watching and your feedback. Sorry to hear you didn't have a great experience with Cafe Sisu. We agree that it is a little hard to find.

@@BucketListTravellers yep, she moved to managua!!😀
@@meryfnaf1347 Ah interesting! Managua is an interesting city. Thanks for watching Mery. 😀😀
Any advice on a affordable Airbnb in the centre? I would like to be able to explore the town by feet, I’d like to walk the Malecon also.
Have fun!
I'm here for the STREET FOOD! Oh yea! Does my Tijuana Spanish work in Nicaragua?
I'm sure it would work! It certainly helps knowing some spanish, because not much English is spoken outside of Managua, Leon, Granada and San Juan Del Sur.
I love NICARAGUA❤❤❤❤❤❤🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮
So do we!🥰🥰
@@BucketListTravellers Thank you so very much!!
Beautiful city

Bella Nicaragua.
Muy bella! Gracias por ver Angel.
Yay ! Vegetarian platter !? Looked yummy ! I was wondering if they've got any vegan / vegetarian friendly places in Nicaragua. Turns out there are more than I expected !! 👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎶✈️🇳🇮💞
There are a couple of vegetarian/vegan places in Nicaragua, but they are still the exception rather than the rule.
Food looks so good !!
It certainly was! Whilst we basically lived on Nicaraguan food while we were there, it was nice to be able to mix up the cuisine when we were in Managua.
Been there a few times I really like Nicaragua
Nicaragua is awesome isn't it! Thanks for watching Brian.
How about the weather? Like Florida??
Managua is hotter than Florida in our experience. However Nicaragua has a range of different climates - the northern highlands has quite mild weather but most other places in Nicaragua are generally hotter than Florida.
are there any gyms there?
Yes there are plenty of gyms all around Nicaragua and heaps in Managua. If you search "gyms" in google maps you'll be able to find all the locations

Do you have to worry about getting parasites from restaurants in Nicaragua?
We didn't have any issues when we lived there for 18 months. Funnily enough, the only food poisoning I got was self inflicted, when I left my own cooked food out in the tropical heat too long!
How do people arrange delivery home if they don't have a car??
@@BucketListTravellers I should have included Australians together with Canadians and Americans....
Came here to know Managua but learned little except about food.
Here in the USA, I pay $7.00 dollars for a Nacatamal.
That is a pretty good price in the USA for nacatamal! Where do you live in the US?
@@BucketListTravellers in Maryland
I am going there in 2 weeks how should I dress it is June 2023
It is hot and steamy all the time unless it rains, so wear something that breathes! You are going in the wet season, so have some wet weather gear on hand too. It typically rains in the afternoon so you have all morning if you want to head outdoors. Have a great time!
@@BucketListTravellers Thank you for the heads up. I have been all over the world and this will be my first time south of Mexico
Great!! Did you visit El Crucero?, that town has a very cool weather, very different to the rest of the country.
Hey Jango! I think we passed through it on the way to Jinotepe. Unfortunately we didn't spend any time there. It looked really pretty though.
Great video... you are a very cute couple❤
Thank you Corinne for your kind words!🤗🤗
I like your content, but a bit disappointed with this specific video. I thought it would show more places of Managua that are worth checking out, but it ended up being a food review video.
Hi BonBonShrimp, thanks for your honest feedback and for your support.
Viva nicaragua
¡Viva Nicaragua!
Notice the sushi restaurant is empty, not much of a popular place
Hi @robertchetwynd2038, thanks for watching! We filmed this during COVID, so it wasn’t surprising to find the restaurant quieter than usual. This spot likely has the best sushi in Managua, though it’s pricey for locals and primarily caters to international travellers. We also found another excellent sushi place in Managua called Sushi Excellencia, which is more affordable and has great quality.
I spent a few days in Managua when I was in Nicaragua four years ago. Is it worth visiting? In my opinion ... no. I found it a rather boring town.
Hi @mrbutch308, thanks for sharing your thoughts. Managua is an acquired taste and not for everyone. If you only have limited time in Nicaragua there are plenty more fascinating locations to visit.
Im going
Have a great time!
Qué bonita vista se ve ahí donde ellos andan demasiado bonito verdad excelente el video 😸😻

expat from san juan del sur.---------. Is a fun day going to managua.. shopping, restaurants, movies. however, waking up everyday at playa marsella is hard to beat. i would not live in managua.
Hi David, good to hear from you. We tend to agree with you on that one, Playa Marsella is hard to beat!
Wearing a mask in the great outdoors with such circulation of air??
We were in Nicaragua at the beginning of the pandemic, when there was a lot of conflicting advice going around. At that time we were being extra cautious, as were many of the locals.
@@BucketListTravellers Interesting, because scientifically it has no significance....
Can't wait to compare to Mexican food.
We were surprised at how much variety there was in Nicaragua food. There are some similarities to Mexican food, like enchiladas, but it generally isn't as spicy. Enjoy!
@@BucketListTravellers thank you. the food dose look good. I was in the Philippines about a month and a half ago I don't really care for most of it.
@@MrDavidsuits We haven't been to the Philippines yet, but believe there may be similar food due to the Spanish influence.
You know maduro is a plantain, it's not a banana.
We did, our bad! Thanks for watching.

Not sure who you are referring to, but thanks for watching!
