    I love that you came back to ice dance. Ice dance is such an overlooked event and deserves so much more recognition 🫶🏻

      100%!! Ice dancers make it look so effortless on TV and a lot of time I feel like it's under appreciated because people don't think it's as difficult because they don't see all the crazy triple and quad jumps but in fact ice dance is insanely challenging in it's own way!

    Ice dance is the event that has always made me want to learn skating. I adore Yuna and Yuzuru just as much as everyone else, but for me, it was watching Virtue and Moir for the first time that really drew me in. I’ve always wished that I could do a fraction of what they do. 💕
    Unfortunately, my nearest ice rink is three hours away lol, and I assumed that it would be too late for me to start even if I did have access to one (I’m 22 now). But since I’m looking at grad schools in the Midwest and New England… and since TH-cam continues to recommend me videos of skaters who began to learn as adults… I’m starting to believe maybe it’s not so impossible.
    Keep it up! I’m sure I’m not the only one who has been inspired by your content 💕

    Ice dance is definitely harder than it looks, and I have to say, you did a great job. I would have been too scared to do ice dance. I know my mom one time wanted me to do ice dance as my specialty instead of free skate because ice dance has no jumps (she didn't want me hurting myself), but ice dance is still dangerous in its own way. Looking back at it now and now that I've been back in skating for 8 months after a 4 year hiatus due to the pandemic, I can see ice dance is beneficial for making sure my basic skills are strong. It's great you have a former member of Team USA helping you, because there's a coach at my club that specializes in ice dance and is also a former member of Team USA.

      Definitely agree- ice dance is so much harder than it looks! Especially when the olympians make it look so effortless on TV. And it is 100% also more dangerous than anyone thinks. Congrats to you for starting to skate again after the hiatus! Glad to hear you came back to the sport (:

      @@cathydingg Thank you. I hope to be in freestyle or free skate soon. Once I make it out of basic skills, then I plan to focus on free skate and ice dance. My basic skills were not good to begin with, so I’m really making sure my basic skills are sharp enough now with my group lessons and private lessons. I’ve passed USFS Adults 1-3 and ISI Pre Alpha - Beta.

    Your intercollegiate story is basically the same as mine 😂😂 my team was 6 girls including me and we placed 5th our first competition so then we decided to max out everyone’s events for the next comp to hopefully make it to nationals. I was only skating for a year at that point but ended up learning the canasta tango in 3 weeks

      Great questions! Yes I definitely have shared a lot of discussion around this! I went into detail on this topic in both my "Skating Q&A" video as well as my "How to Start Figure Skating" video! Feel free to check those out for more detailed insights (:

  • @chearyxllev

    Do you have to be already a (good) figure skater in single skates to start with pair skating or can you immediately start with pairs? Personally I love skating in general and I have skated in single skates for one season now but I’m not sure if it’s good enough to start with pairs

    • @cathydingg
      @cathydingg  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@chearyxllev I will say it’s definitely easier and safer for both partners to have a baseline level of edge control and familiarity with skating before attempting pairs moves! I personally would recommend developing your individual skating skills up and for whoever your partner is to do the same if they are also new to skating! Just because pairs is riskier and just want to make sure you are safe- I think consulting a pairs coach in your rink to assess if you are ready may be a good idea!
