I might be biased as a distance runner, but I think distance running is, not necessarily the hardest, but the most painful. It's not hard to run a 5K but racing them all out is far and away the most painful and brutal thing I've ever done in my life

AGREED 100% true, I feel like even while I was ranking, I felt like even if it's something I tried once, I have a whole another perspective of how hard it really is
As a figure skater, I will accept that I am extremely biased towards sports that have an artistic component to it to be harder than ones that don’t. With that said, I absolutely love watching artistic gymnastics and believe it is the hardest sport because not only do you have to use your whole body, but you also have to look good doing it, which is a different category of hard. It requires, strength, agility, flexibility, endurance and stamina from your upper and lower body. I recently came across the 109+ men’s weightlifting event from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics recently and weightlifting became a new sport I like to watch. Lasha Talakhadze lifts world record weights with so much body control that it actually inspires me on the ice. I want to have as much body control and grace on the ice as he does lifting weights. He is considered the goat in weightlifting going for his 3rd Olympic gold in Paris. I cannot wait to watch him and get inspired again by how easy he makes it looks, how calm he is and how humble he is accepting his results. I agree with you Cathy on the other sports you put in S tier as well. Diving is so pretty to watch as well
I totally agree! I think I am also biased towards artistic sports as well- really cool connection also with the weightlifting! Hidilyn Diaz was also a weightlifter and really inspiring last olympics when she won the first gold medal for the Philippines! Proof that inspiration can definitely come from athletes in all sports and not just your own!
As a former swimmer, tennis player and a currently adult figure skater, judging only by my personal experience every type of sport that includes artistic component is super hard as I personally always forget to keep my artistic image and try focusing on the technique only which is 👎🏻 so maintaining both feels like mission impossible to me)) Also, court sports and all the aquatics are super hard because you have to keep your breathing stable + technique and strong will & nerves. Also, I really like mountain biking as it seems unbelievable! I cannot even ride a bike safely on a completely flat surface; surfing is something I love so much but it seems so scary sometimes and super difficult. But respectfully, every sport is super difficult and super intriguing in its own way! Thank You for the video Cathy!
@@heleezu I totally agree! For the Olympics to thrive the IOC should want to maximise the countries competing and the number of events they compete in. The current method of ranking countries exclusively by gold medals discourages less wealthy countries from competing in a broad range of events. A common sense approach to ranking nations is to assign points to each medal - bronze = 1 point, silver = 2 points, and gold = 4 points. This will provide a much more representative ranking than gold only ranking.
I agree! I think the Olympics should definitely be in support of having as many athletes and countries represented as possible. I think athletes from smaller countries should definitely be able to have the same chances and opportunities to shine at the olympics.
I think the “easyier” a sport is, the harder it is to win a medal. Most people that are in good health and not very old can run a hundred meters, so you’re basically competing to the whole world.
