- I just recently had a septoplasty with Latera implants and a turbinate reduction. I was very nervous before my procedure and did as best research on it as I could but there were still a lot of questions I wish I had answered. So, I made a video for those of you who might not feel like you can find the right answers, reassurances and information. Check out, let me know how yours went!
Thank you for your testimony, mine is very similar. I had a knee replacement in July and developed a blood clot that was discovered in my right lung. Nobody but Jesus. So I was very abrehensive about the procedure. Like you I couldn't breathe or sleep. Long story short, the Lord surrounded me with believers. This is my 3rd day with minimal pain, I don't have splints, no packing, and I can breathe. TGBTG.

I'm having mine done on Friday. Watching videos has helped with what to expect. The pre-op meeting was yesterday, so all I'm waiting for is Friday morning.

Had my Septoplasty and Turbinate reduction done yesterday.. I have no pain and slight swelling. The worst part has been the stuffiness and cleaning up the discharge.(like you have with a sinus infection) I have the splints in, no discomfort or pain..Today I feel fine, still dripping a little.. For the best success and lowest risk of ENS/exterior membrane damage to the Turbinates have the microdebrider procedure done, the cauterize/radiowave methods have a history of issues (have a complete understanding of each method)...I don't regret having it done..Do your research on the Surgeon and the way they reduce the Turbinates and you'll have success ..:)
It's been the 4th day of my septoplasty as of now. My surgery was performed on general anesthesia. The post-surgery pain was very less compared to the effects of anesthesia on me. I also bled a lot after my nose was unpacked/un-stuffed the next day. The surgeon has put splints in my nose which are super irritating. He said he would remove it after two weeks. I still can't breathe through my nose.
My tips for those have just gone through this surgery:
1) rinse your nose with saline water at least three times a day.
2) Keep your head straight (even if the rest of the body is not)
3) Use a liquid paraffin to keep your nose libricated and avoid irritation.
Agreed, awesome tips! 👌 ya my nose was stuffed for probably a good month in a half! I've heard the stints account for a majority of the pain and swelling after the surgery for those who get that technique!
Oh good I was worried I’m 2 weeks post op splint out and my deviated side is still stuffy and I feel like it’s swollen inside cause I can see the cartilage still blocking it I hope that’s just the swelling I hope I can sleep better soon and not mouth breathe anyone else have the same issues ?
Thanks for your video. i actually almost made my own due to the lack of content out there. Glad i found yours. my ENT gave me a septoplasty in may last year. made me take a bunch of steroids for about 7 months and i actually lost partial vision in my right eye due to the steroids. Doctor who prescribed it to me said it was unlikely, but an immunologist said it is the most likely cause. Went to a different more competent doctor who explained my turbinates were swelling on the opposite side to try and match the work done on the left half of nose. just had latera about 36 hours ago with revised septoplasty and turbinate reduction. My original doctor i thought was really good, but made me feel like i was insane. i told him in my last appointment that i was having breathing issues that were cauing me anxiety in the night.. he said i dont deal with mental health and recommended me to a psychologist . Most disrespectful thing ive ever had happen, glad i went to a new surgeon who helped me right away.
wow just saw u say ur anxiety regarding breathing right after i commented this ^. my doctor is a POS for saying i need a therapist.
Sorry you had so much trouble with this! Breathing is an essential function to the body so when you feel like it’s inhibited or strained naturally it’s going to affect your quality of life. After surgery was quite nerving for me too, especially a few days to a week out, I had issues with panic and anxiety. Hopefully for you it clears up and you start to feel less anxiety and enjoy better breathing. I’m glad your new surgeon was much better!

@@theplancks7618 I was quite worked up under the pain meds (sorry) but ultimately what I wrote was true. I had complete blockage on my right side and now that my stents are out I breathe much easier unassisted. I have complete airflow to both nostrils and my right side collapses with heavy breathing (even with latera implants) but i do not care. Now that turbinate is reduced again in right nostril I can breathe well. The only other thing that bothers me is my sinuses pop a lot but i've been able to remedy that with OTC medication so i'm very happy compared to say a year ago. Second surgery was with a plastic surgeon with fellowship training instead of an ENT.

@@muhammadamsari4082 have had 2 septoplastys, latera implant, FESS, and sinus nerves frozen. still wake up unable to breathe most nights with large milky white snot clots . im debating one more surgery but feel feel pretty defeated. in a better place than a year ago though.
My husband is getting the same exact surgery as you described here in 3 days! Great tips on the gloves used with ice! I’ve stocked up with nasal sprays , gel and a nasal rinse! I was debating on buying him a humidifier but after watching this I think I will buy one ! Would love to see an update on your post surgery !

Good advice on the cough drops and surgical gloves for icing. Surgery next month for me.
I have EOE too! Im also getting this surgery on the 30th of September. Im a little nervous. I experience the same exercise intolerance as you do regarding or being able to breathe. Thank you for making this video!!!
I rarely meet anyone who has EoE, hopefully yours is not as severe as some cases. I know mine is pretty mild right now, as mild goes lol!! I hope your procedure goes well. I was very nervous myself but I’m sure you’ll do great!
Just had mine today in So Cal. Pain isn’t too bad. Just very uncomfortable rn. I’m planning on hitting the gym regardless the day after tomorrow 😂

@@theplancks7618 how are you feeling these day, I have a terrible sinus infection and they said if the antibiotics don’t work I may have to get surgery and I’m very nervous. Would you do it all over it again, did your sinus infection leave quickly since you had surgery?

I struggled with tiredness all the time starting as a teenager that slowly got worse until last year at age 25 when doctors noticed I had a really bad nasal valve collapse on both sides of my nose. Nothing caused it it just happened naturally and was causing sleep breathing issues

I'm basically in the same boat as you man lol.. Bad anxiety, Esophagitis, panic attacks when I felt like I couldn't breathe lol. I had my septoplasty done 2 days ago and I've have a few small panic attacks because I can't breathe at all through my nose. Felt terrible day of surgery and day after, throwing up, sleepy, fatigue, no real pain though, I haven't had to take any pain pills. Weird popping sound in my nose(especially when I drink water), pressure in my ears like I'm in an airplane lol.. Face and head felt hot for the first couple days also. I actually went to ER the day of surgery, that's how bad I felt 🤦🏽♂️. Are you able to smell or taste? Great video man!!
Sorry for the very late response. Ya I felt pretty lousy and had a few panic attacks because of the breathing issues. However, it eased as the time went. I'm sorry all that happened to you, man. I hope everything is going well at this point!!

I'm seriously looking into surgery atm. After a full year, would you recommend?
@@UnoDosTraitz I would recommend it, everyone is different so you may have a great outcome.. I'm a year out and no change for me. I still get nasal breathing issues.
@@UnoDosTraitz just dont do turbinate reduction at all tell you doc to no touch em at all and that in writing from him
Small bag of frozen peas also works well to ice the nose.
I have mine in a month, so nervous!!!!!!!!

Great video! Thanks for all the helpful info. Would you be able to expand on your sleeping issues? And did they say how bad your turbinates were?
So my sleeping issues caused me to wake up from apnea, snoring, and overall really poor sleep. Really fatigued and tired throughout the day. I had trouble getting to and staying asleep. My tirbinates were pretty swollen. The Dr. said he was surprised I made it as long as I did because I virtually had no air flow through my nose.
@@theplancks7618 wow sounds exactly similar to my symptoms and I was apprehensive about getting the surgery not knowing if the turbinates were truly the issue. Mine completely obstruct at night when I lay down.
How are you sleeping now post surgery?
@@riverascourtesy5 I'm doing great now! I don't even snore, however, sometimes I do still get stuffed up but thats because as much as they can fix it structurally they can't fix the allergies lol. So I still deal with some swelling at night but it's nowhere near how it was. Even now almost 2 yrs out for me! They don't remove even close to the whole turbinate because they're important to smell, taste and moisture in the nose so they usually just trim them a tad now a days!

I am in day 5 post op..my splints are removed..still I can't breathe through my nose and I have congestion..does it go away fast?
Same mine... Last Saturday my surgery and splint removed 4 days before. Still i cant breath... I think surgery is not heppend in right way...
How is your nose and breathing now? I had surgery to shrink my turbinates 3 weeks ago, and I didn't wear a splint... But now I feel my mouth is a little drier and my sleep time is disturbed because I often wake up every 1 hour, 2 hours or 3 hours. And it could happen up to 5 times while I was sleeping. Do you feel the same or much better? I'm afraid of ENS
Thanks for making this video. I also have EOE, and had a septoplasty/turbinate reduction 2 weeks ago. Likewise, I also developed a sinus infection during recovery. I wanted to ask how long it took for the congestion to go away after surgery? When my doctor removed the splints 6 days after surgery, I could breathe great for a few days, but then I started getting very stuffy. I am hoping this gets better. Thank you
Hi Eric! Ya that’s tough, I’ve read and heard that getting the splints are the tougher way to go. Hopefully it wasn’t too painful. It probably took me a month and a half to fully clear up. From what I am understanding, yes it fixes the structural issues, but then you may still have the allergy issues if you’ve had them which can still cause stuffiness. I did nasal rinses for months after and drill do them occasionally and they seem to help quite a bit. I would ask your doctor for any questions if you’re concerned it’s not getting better.

In ct scan of pns shows
I have mild deviated septum towards left side
And also mild inferior turbanate hypertrophy on right side of my nose
From 2 months I can't sleep properly in one strech

I hear ya on that! I had been doing that for at least 3 years before I said enough. In the mean time while you wait breath right strips are a great way to help keep your nose open at night. Also, I used nasal spray and benadryl. You'll be glad you get it done!
Septoplasty for mild deviation? No.
Turbinate reduction for mild, one sided enlargement? No.
Do saline nasal rinsing daily. Use Mometasone steroid daily. Use desloratadine or loratadine daily (or as needed).
If you want to treat your turbinate on one or both sides, go and get a day procedure turbinate ablation. Literally topical and local anaesthetic, 10 minutes all up, then you wait around for an hour and walk out. You might need it done again 6/12 months later, then once a year after that, then maybe once every several years. There is absolutely no risk of ENS with that procedure.
Typical turbinate reduction by removing bone and tissue is old fashioned at this point, and always has the possibility of adverse events including the almost untreatable ENS.
Another surgery used instead (rare to need more than the previously mentioned treatment) is Turbinate out-fracturing, where the turbinate bones are broken and moved into a better position. Also no clinically evidenced manifestation of ENS has ever been recorded.

I would say so! All things considered my nose still has more better days than not, now. I can sleep better and exercise better so I definitely would say it was worth it for me!
it's been 15 days after my septoplasty surgery,I still feel congested and stuffy nose,is it normal???

Yes it’ll take about a month for your nose to completely not be stuffy. Make sure you keep doing your rinses. It helps tremendously

Sorry for being a little late, it took me about 1 month before I was completely clear. It takes a while for the scar tissue and build up fo completely come loose!
