    Help!! I just found a tortoise a couple of days ago at our front fence...great video..question..being outside to they need heat lamps? And what kind of food..I got tortoise food at the pet store..and cut up lettuce and tomatoes. I love the idea of the tortoise being outside and not in a tank. God Bless you too!

    • @abramdebew8976
      @abramdebew8976 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      you should research into the species and the types of food they eat. Also, tomatoes are not very good for tortoises in general because of high phosphorus and low calcium and basically no fiber. Lettuce is not good either because it has low nutrients, and is mostly just water. Most species of tortoise like flowers, grasses, leaves, and weeds. Some like fruit though. I highly reccomend this website www.thetortoisetable.org.uk/home/about-us/#.W1c2ttJKjIU

      Follow Christ 1 you cant keep a wild turtle- they are wild. If it is native you must put it back in the same place it was.

    • @homefarmideas
      @homefarmideas  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s not necessarily accurate. You can get permission to foster a wild turtle or if you are rescuing it from a situation that could kill it. You’re still required to register it.

      Oh guys thanks for asking well it's a miracle I got her back only in June I cannot believe all that time I posted all the time through people's doors.leadfets The house next door was empty well it's quite a way away and new people moved in and a man came and said is it you that put this poster up as he spoke to a guy down the Road then he said come with me I have your tortoise I've only moved into the house a month ago and today she crawled out from under the shed. I was shaking I couldn't believe this, nearly a year and through the seasons looking under leaves terrified to drive up my drive incase she was there in the snow I felt sick looking for her but I never gave up hope ever! i prayed I could get her back. Mr Tort saw her and omg he ran towards her truly he didn't eat for a long time he climbed the walls of the pens I thought I might have to re-home hin. Thanks you for asking thank you I'm so happy I truly am. Miracles happen 😊 She's grounded for now hahahaha 🙂

    Im really hoping for a response. My daughter has a russian tortoise. We are in Pittsburgh so it isnt warm enough to keep outside all year long. I want to make her a super awesome enclosure but am afraid she will burrow out of the yard somehow,=. Should I be concerned? How do you keep yours from burrowing out?

      +Super Moon, hi:) I hope these answers help you. Just a note, you cannot get these tortoises because they are protected. I got this one by saving it's life.
      1. An adult desert tortoise can measure up to 14 inches (35.5cm) in length.
      2. No, they cannot take to cold of temps.
      3. They can live 35 to 40 years. They can live longer though:)

    Well done. Though it's been my experience that when rain gets in...A tortoise might dig deeper to avoid the water. At least that's what one of my tortoises did. The other one came out. For that reason, I have burrows above ground. With adequate shade of course. With that being said, great vid! Really enjoyed it!

      You should never release a tortoise back into the wide that has been in captivity, they contract many parasites and diseases while in captivity that they can spread to other tortoises in the wild. Once in captivity they should remain there for the health of the wild population.
