Seeing the radiated tortoises move around gave me the following idea for a video: timelapse of the different reptile enclosures to get an understanding and appreciation of their behaviour during the day! This could also be amazing b-roll to fill your intros and outros with.
I wish this video was out last year when I had two sulcada tortoise, I did so much research on building a proper home n all I would see was the underground ones so I built one n unfortunately they didn’t survived our California winter I’m still super sad and feel super guilty about this
Hey kenan, maybe you can grow a succelent or gras or other plant carpet on the flat roof of that new tortoise house. Could make it look really natural. Keep up the good work!
You're on a roll with all the shelters. I you gotto get a patent for prefab tortoise shelters. People would go nuts for them. Not only are they great for your tortoises, they look awesome for any variety of reptiles/mammals.
Put a 2 inch PVC tube strapped with tie down to the piller on ur house next to the cabin so u can slide ur roof holder in and have it accessible when u need it

You could probably hinge that prop rod to either side of the roof albeit a smaller version and it would give you safer way to get in and out of the Rad Shack. Almost makes me want a tortoise myself.
Your tortoises are moving into some high class digs now! They look cool sitting around the property..adds a little something to the "yard". Are you building any more? Lizard add ons, maybe?
Wish I could go back 20 or so years,. Always wanted a one of these guys never realized that came small . My daughter, and friend take care of our sliders so maybe we could invite a new friend into our home 💖

Nice. Have you thought about a tortoise & Iguana feed garden? It is a cost effective way to supplement, and super easy. All lettuces keep on growing, so one seed packet can last for years. I make baby tortoise grazing trays and set them right on top of it.
Still waiting to see Buttercup again. I just love her. She is so awesome. If she were mine, I would make her a huge, giant, enclosure out there near the pond, with lots of vegetation. But, that is me.
I’m building a small shelter for my baby sulcata’s indoor tank. Wondering if plywood is a safe material for them to be around, finding a lot of mixed info on message boards 🤷🏼♂️
How do you get your tortoise to actually walk in/out on their own? I live in Sacramento, CA and I built a shed for my tortoise but he doesn’t like his shed. He rather would hide under different crap in the backyard.
I will try this. What I need is an enclosure inside an enclosure because I lock my tortoise in "the shed" every night but he really needs a corner to bury himself with substrate to get comfy. Right now he is outgrowing a plastic upside down container that I cut one end off. I am concerned because he is scratching the concrete floor in an attempt to bury himself and he has worn his claws down to the point where he rarely walks around, I assume he might be in pain there. He's still very shy so I sense that he wants to be hidden and buried when he's ready for sleep. Someone recommended top soil, coco coir and a little sand for the substrate as I am allergic to hay. I hope someone sees this and recommends some tips - question: he sleeps in the corner, do I have to build log walls where the concrete walls are or can I just make a frame on the floor and create two walls with an opening on one of the walls? I still need to make a insulated top for the winter time. This is for a growing Aldabra. He just had a 5 year birthday and he's not that big yet so I'm not sure how large to make this. Kennan, I have a sulcata who’s about 5 and a half now and ready to live outside. I live in Kansas City MO so he stays inside in the winter. But I have built him a new outdoor hut and it’s pretty nice for the hot weather we get here. I was wondering if u had any suggestions to make his outdoor enclosure predator proof
@kenan Harkin good thing you know where your turtles and iguanas lay their eggs. Otherwise you'd be over run with lots of *"Godzilla"* babies in the yard. And I don't think Mrs Kate would too happy about it nonetheless 😅
I'm going to make my baby sulcatas a cabin with Lincoln logs for fun 😝 since mine are to small to build them something like urs but u did a great job and very clean looking .They r going to love it especially with those heat pads u put inside to keep them warm. Ur doing a great thing for the animals it feels great doesnt it I feel at one when am with my animals and caring for them. I zone out and in my own world so stress free when am feeding or cleaning and adding to my reef tanks and reptiles and birds.

The one thing I'd suggest is drilling a shallow hole for the pole to sit in when its open. Knowing myself I'd knock it over all the time lol

Beautiful, may want to put a latch on it to hold the roof down during hurricane season so it doesn't fly open and break your house window.

Question. You only insulated a small portion of the roof. Can you explain why and why just a portion vs the whole roof and walls?
If those are sulcata tortoises, that's only good for about a year or two until they outgrow that.
That should keep them nice and toasty.

He should have had the top open the offer way and make a rope go to the inside so you can open it from inside to see if they are all in there
