- AS WITH ALL MY VIDEOS I TRY TO GIVE THE MOST INFORMATION IN THE LEAST AMOUNT OF TIME AS POSSIBLE SO I DON'T WAIST YOUR TIME. IN THIS VIDEO I GO OVER AN OUTDOOR HABITAT THAT I MADE FOR MY NEW RUSSIAN TORTOISE THAT WE RESCUED. THIS VIDEO INCLUDES A DEN BUILD AND A POND BUILD THAT AUTOMATICALLY FLUSHES NEW WATER INTO IT 4 TIMES A DAY.
i appreciate getting to the point on your video and not wasting time with a bunch of filler and fluff (like so many YT video's)! Good enclosure build and I liked how you would go over what you would do differently on each part if you had to do it all over again. I'm sure your tortoise is happy!
Wilma is one very lucky tortoise. What an incredible outdoor habitat you built for her - the pond is amazing. I will NOT be showing this video to Clyde, my Russian tortie. He would demand the same living conditions immediately.

With a den it will NEVER get too cold for a Russian tortoise in Arizona. Here in Virginia we have had single digit nights that the tortoise gets through just fine in her deep den below the freeze line..
This is an amazing habitat! Careful of predators, especially rats as they commonly hurt tortoises.
Rats are a big problem. I bought some pepper mint spray at home depot that deters them. But my tortoises are sleeping in garage this winter in plastic bins with coconut bark

Making enclosures and such is actually a lot of fun. You can imagine pretty much anything you want depending on how much space you have.

Nice job on the enclosure, definitely a nice large space for that Russian. Good job on the little pond. Russian tortoises are often called Horsfields (Testudo Horsfieldii) especially in the UK.
Oh yeah. going to use some of your ideas next year. We have a Cherry Faced Red Footed tortoise. We are guessing she/he is 2 years old.

Thanks I think I’m gonna build a shade cover for the pond to help prevent some algae buildup and help prevent some of the birds from seeing it in the near future

Wow Wilma's a very lucky girl. I have a Horsfield who's 5yrs old. You'd be looking to get x5 plus females and a male if you wanted to increase your Horsfield numbers, and not let the male pester them to the point of illness. X
So I run a turtle rescue/sanctuary and that’s how I found you. That said, I am also a father of five who tends to DIY everything, so I can definitely use your channel!
How has it worked out? I just say, they can climb much better than people think.
No issues as far as her making it out she has flipped on her back twice since we have had her she is a bit of a dare devil and drops off of her den
@@diydan7019 yeah, they’ll do that. Horsfieldi/Russian tortoises are a bit of a specialty for me. I keep and breed all 5 subspecies. There is a conference every November in Mesa that I attend and I actually spoke on Russian torts in 2022. I know a ton of turtle and tortoise keepers in AZ I could connect you with.

Fantastic enclosure! Will definitely try the pond build. I currently have their sprinkler filling into a rock water bowl I purchased, and just flush it out as needed. But now I’ll def look into it draining into one of the plants 🪴 instead! Wilma is a
