My 8 times Great Grandfather Archibald Cameron of Lochiel was hanged and then beheaded at Tyburn in 1753 for his part in the Jacobite uprising. Thanks for an interesting video!
as a 17 year old, your videos actually made me enjoy learning about history again. I've always loved history and am able to memorize stuff pretty easily, thankfully lol, but highschool has drained my love for it. These videos keep me constantly actually learning things about our great ancestors, and the way that you are able to speak your words and flow the information into the watchers' head is pretty amazing. From the tiny state of New Hampshire, cheers Mr. Hicks:)

Mr. Hicks, your videos are amazing. You are a wonderful raconteur as folks from my part of the woods would say. (South Carolina). When most people use TH-cam for useless videos of people doing bizarre dances and crazy stunts your channel is genuinely entertaining and educational. My brother in law is a middle school social studies/history teacher near Charleston and ever since I sent him a few of your videos he tells me he has been showing them to his classes ever chance he gets. And from what he tells me the young ones absolutely love your videos and have even came into class with recommendations to him from videos of yours they have watched at home. Your a real deal English gentleman and all of us young and old thank you for the history lessons. I wish you nothing but the best and I just wanted you to know how much Mr. Sutton's social studies class and myself enjoy all of your content. God bless you sir. 👍👍
I'm watching for the first time tonight and I love the charisma of our host Kevin Hicks. You are funny, irreverent and sarcastic and I haven't laughed so hard watching history in quite some time. Beau travail, Mssr. Hicks. Mr. Hicks, you may know that the phrase, "not in my backyard," (or NIMBY for short) was first coined by the late, great George Carlin in the 70's. You use it with aplomb here sir. However, as an American I was stunned to silence by your editorial, expressed in all seriousness; "There is one law for the rich, and one law for the rest of us." Truer words have never been spoken, Mr. Hicks, bravo. I would happily exchange your sadness as a Brit for my disgust as an American. I've wanted to expatriate for decades, never more so than now. Kevin Hicks, you truly excel as a storyteller. Your presentation of the facts was not only meticulous but also profoundly engaging, guiding us through a spectrum of emotions-from amusement to sorrow to indignation. The caliber of your narrative skill is reminiscent of the legendary David Attenborough-a comparison I do not make lightly. Your exploration of the Tyburn Gallows doesn’t just recount history; it invites deep philosophical contemplation, prompting us to question the very essence of freedom and liberation. Your narrative prowess transforms a morbid chapter of history into a compelling journey of reflection and understanding. Such is the charm of your storytelling that I could listen to you all day long. You are amazing!
Where I grew up here in Sweden there’s this playground with a huge oak tree in the middle of it. We’d call the spot “The Frog” because the main attraction if you will was one of those ridable animals with a spring shaped like a frog. When I grew older I learned that the oak was used to hang people back in the day. From executioner’s grounds to playground. Quite the difference some hundred odd years make!
Excellent video. One of my forefathers was hanged at Tyburn for working with a group of highway robbers and house breakers during the early/mid 1700s. He was caught in Lancashire and dragged back to York. Its in record as several were hanged at once and one was a woman.

Completely disagree the problem is that criminals aren't punished equally and people are fully aware of which laws they can break with minimal punishment based on various factors involving sex, religion, race or even immigration status Justice is supposed to be blind what it has become is an actual mockery of real justice.
@@Alpha_Q_UpStill, "they" AREN'T punished heavily enough! Blacks, Muslims, sexual deviants....apparently they can do whatever they want with little to no consequences.
Every crime in England at that time was punishable by death and they apparently hanged many, many people. Yet crime continued. It is almost as if punishment is not a good deterrent to crime and the real issues may be much more complex than that.
Yes, because places like the worst US and UK prisons have done so much to reduce recidivism . . . You have a gift of storytelling ,when I was 5 or 6 yrs old I remember at school we watched a programme called "how we used to live" I was so fascinated with the Victorian period, respect to you and your knowledge, keep them coming.
Just found your channel the other day. Great films! Great teacher! Great outifts!!
Thanks so much!
Isn’t Kevin great
The story of Hanna Dago is hilarious and the way you said it Kevin! you got me rolling on the floor with tears coming out of my eyes! it was a scene out of a funny movie!
😜
I never liked history that much untill I found this channel, cheers to you!
Hello Mr Hicks, sir.. I relistened to your recounting of your life as a Bobby, and I remembered why I am proud of my ancestry of Wessex.
👍🏻
Human behavior can be so horrifying. Back then, they overly punished criminals, but today, criminals aren't punished heavily enough.
@@Alpha_Q_Up so, not punished heavily enough ?
Every crime in England at that time was punishable by death and they apparently hanged many, many people. Yet crime continued. It is almost as if punishment is not a good deterrent to crime and the real issues may be much more complex than that.
Yes, because places like the worst US and UK prisons have done so much to reduce recidivism . . .
OH, WAIT, no, US and UK prisons are OBJECTIVELY worse when measured against prisons in Nations that don't allow brutal treatment of their incarcerated. Gee, it is ALMOST like you are being emotional, and not rational !.
This was so entertaining! I was laughing at the Irish lady and crying about the 15 year old boy. Pls keep these videos coming. You’re amazing!
Thanks Marcy, will do 👍
Honestly it was a treat to watch a 40 minute long video. Well done, Kevin. Also I've a question. How do you craft those handmade models in your videos with such precision and skill? Much respect.
Haha, you mean my lovely horse 😜 he was quite a challenge, especially when his leg fell off.
I'm lucky enough to have lots of tools in my garage and have always been pretty creative. Thanks for your kind words 👍🏻
loved it kevin so interesting, i lived not far from there as a child. i could not stop watching it from start to finish
Good to hear John, thanks 👍🏻
Such a great storyteller. I think Kevin must have made a top bobby and Military Policeman, I’d have loved to serve alongside him.
Mr. Hicks, a great collection, very well presented, as usual. Thank you!
Stretched to forty minutes eh?. . . This suspense is indeed well taught & heading twang-worthy! : )
😂
I love these videos. Always informative and educational whilst at the same time interesting and entertaining.
This fellow really knows how to capture an audience and bring history to life!👏
Much appreciated!
Wish my teachers at school were as good as Kevin hicks, A great storyteller.
Thank you for that special episode of tyburn and all the history explained. The enthusiasm you show and the way you tell it is the reason why I watch your other films too. It's amazing thank you so much again.
Hooray! Ol' Kev has posted another banger.
😃
I could listen to this man for hours! 👏🏼
"I'm not gonna do it on a real person cause they don't tend to like that" I'm cracking up! I love your channel sir, you got a subscriber/fan here, keep up the great work and British humor 😂
Haha, I appreciate that. Thanks & welcome 👍🏻
I love this channel! And the fact that this man was a guard at the famous castle of London itself and his wealth of historic facts makes it even better than all other history channels👏
Hey Kevin, I wasn't a guard at London, but worked as a bowman at Warwick Castle & others for years. Thanks for watching and your kind words 👍🏻
@thehistorysquad oh I'm sorry for the mistake. Warwick castle is an interesting history too! Thank you for your videos sir, they make my day honestly.
My pleasure 👍🏻@@Newjerseyblows

Thank you for the excellent history lesson!! Always is wonderful hearing your stories!!🙏💖🪶💞✨️💜
I have read that the term, "on the wagon" derives from the trip on a wagon to the gallows. They would stop at the local public house and allow a drink to the condemned, but just one drink, because they were "on the wagon."
No, it was the water wagon.
My family and I love your videos! I can't always get my husband to watch historical videos with me but he will watch if you're on! I wish we could meet you in person some time but we live in TX. God bless you, your family, and your work. ❤
