I'm American, and I'd never heard of Hicks....but I live in the Pacific Northwest, and criminal history along the Eastern Seaboard is rarely heard around here. A fascinating story (may Hicks be still burning in Hell), and you present your historic stories so very well! I'm glad I stumbled onto your videos..thoroughly enjoyable, and not dry mainstream stuff. As you can see we share the same name. I am told my great grandfather was in the British Cavalry and lost a leg in South Africa (he never did find it). He then came to the United States and worked as a livery man for the Pratt family. I am told he was something of a neer-do-well and abandoned my grandfather. My grandfather's name was Charles Hicks. My mother said of him, "he was a very nice man." He was a Master Mason (as am I) and both he and my grandmother were Order of Eastern Star. Sadly, my grandfather pass on when I was two years old so everything I was told about him and my great grandfather is second and third hand. My DNA reveals a large percentage of my background it English, Welsh, Scots and Irish. Oddly enough, it also showed 1.5% Italian and 1.5% Greek. That would figure to be Roman soldiers meeting up with the local girls in England, yeah.
As a history student at Uni I Love the content, reminds me of a more serious version of horrible histories, the way you tell stories and the knowledge u hold Kevin is brilliant and accessible for all ages, perfect for youtube videos.
Wow I had no idea this took place on Liberty Island! What an interesting piece of trivia. It really re-contextualizes that part of American History to me. I’ve always heard about the history behind the Statue of Liberty, but not what happened on the island before. Fascinating stuff, Kevin!
Good comment. I will throw in a trivia of Ellis island, next to Liberty, where arriving ship passengers got checked. Back in the 70's, during a period of awarding contracts to minority firms, a company was hired to refurbish the buildings. It was not finished but before they walked away, the copper roofs were removed and sold for scrap.
I almost didn't click on one of your videos when you got thrown into my TH-cam algorithm. I am glad I did. You are like the British Mr. Rodgers. I can't get enough of your videos. Much love from the Midwest United States.
Awesome video my friend. Don't fret about something a relative did long ago. We judge a man by his character and actions, not by something they had no control over nor anything to do with. I believe everyone has had at least one really bad egg in their family. Take me, for example....I'm almost positive I am related to Bonnie Parker (of Bonnie & Clyde infamy). I'm not the least bit worried about it as I wasn't even a thought back then.
I love the fact that you teach us history that was never taught in school. Keep the videos coming! Love the light on the wall behind you. Reminds me of a Knight's hood!

Just found your site and am hooked with the content 👌 if I had a history teacher like you it would of made school more interesting instead of a person droning on about crap. Wonderful storytelling you make so much more.
I am loving catching up with all your videos. They are very interesting and I love the way you present the information. You are a great speaker and storyteller. Thanks!🌺🌺
I am addicted to your videos Kevin!! you’re a fantastic historian and story teller and you should be thoroughly proud of the great work you’re doing. Well done sir! 😊👍
Wonderful story telling. It’s great to hear the less well known tales of the past and if they’re a bit gory then it seems so much the better. How about looking into the many stories from the rich history of The Black Country, town by town?

We've all got questionable ancestors, don't we. Some of mine were terrible, and that's just the few deeds that I know about! Great story Kevin and company!

BRILLIANT, thanks Kevin, loved listening to your story about Hicksy. I can't remember the last time I sat and watched someone tell a story, but you certainly had my attention.😂
Well Kevin, you and I are possibly related as well. My mother was a Hicks through her father’s side (my grandfather). Our Hicks line traces back to Queens, Jamaica, NYC and Long Island and to one of my gg something grandfathers Robert Hicks (born 1543 in England) who was a sea captain. I was born and raised in NC but 9 months ago moved to the seat of the Hicks family in SC, Chesterfield County, SC. Our Hicks line goes from NY (1600’s) to Chesterfield, VA, then to Granville County, NC and then to Chesterfield County, SC by the mid to late 1700’s.
Great story! Thanks a bunch as always. I have an ancestor for you to look at and see if you wanna do a film on. I'll get you the details in a bit. Cheers

I read part of a book that was written in the 17th or 1800's I believe on how it was law for British Military top brass to be Freemasons. It was written by a British military man and I so wish I could find that book again, he also stated it was British military policy to spread freemasonry to every country and continent we ever invaded. It can be devastating to wake up and realise who your related too, we can all only be responsible for our own actions! Your a brilliant historian i do hope you continue to do what you do best but I would appreciate a British military historical view of Freemasonry from your point of view. That is only ofcourse if your at a loose end for inspiration. In the mean time take care, thanks for being a great history teacher and God bless 🙏
