Fun fact: there’s no way to tell if a traded pokemon is genned, as if a pokemon is ‘legal’ the hack check in game does not catch it. 99% of DQs for genned pokemon have been because those genned pokemon were not legally obtainable in game; stuff like being caught in the wrong place or being in a pokeball they could not be obtained in.
@@foxpokemonforever4775 They literally have no variations like how ancient pokémon. They just turn them into robots, slap iron at the front of a name and call it a day. The ancient pokémon get cool unexpected designs and you never know what the name would be
Actually find the Violet paradox Pokemon to make more sense in the story. And for Violet to make more sense as a story in general. The professor creates an AI of himself for one. That makes way more sense for a future game than a past game. So much so that I genuinely assumed that the ending to Scarlett must be different. I was confused to find out its the exact same. I was genuinely thinking to myself there's no way that they create an AI in Scarlet it has to be something different. Also the robot Pokemon are much more "scary" and weird. In the context of the game where all the characters are freaked out by them and wonder if they're even Pokemon. The Scarlet paradox Pokemon are still very obviously Pokemon. theyre organic living creatures. Even if you've never seen one before you could still very much assume that they are Pokemon even within the context of the game. However the violet paradox Pokemon are literal robots. You look at them and wonder if they're even Pokemon or if they're just machines. Which makes way more sense for how the characters react to them. And it helps with the creepy vibe of area 0 that they were going for. Having basically just caveman versions of Pokemon isn't scary or eerie. And it really doesn't support the vibe that these Pokemon are extremely dangerous and unknown that the game tries to set up. I feel like you could very easily guess what Pokemon of the past could do. Pretty much the exact same thing that Pokemon of the now do if not slightly worse because they arent as evolved genetically. These robot Pokemon tho? Yeah we have no idea about these things. They exist far off in the future. we don't know what they're capable of. And if they're even alive. Which is what the game is going for. The game constantly refers to how it's extremely dangerous down there and they don't know what these Pokemon are capable of. Which is how arvin's Pokemon gets hurt while he's looking for his parents. So much so that a Pokemon center couldn't even heal it. I can't buy that for the past Pokemon because they're just Pokemon but ancient. But I can buy that for these future Pokemon that are literal robots. One of which according to the Pokedex is a literal death machine created from what used to be the real terrakion. presumably by team plasma when they say "evil organization" That we would have absolutely no way of knowing what they could do. Some of these are literal programmed death machines. It says the same for iron crown as well. It's not even a Pokemon it's a literal machine created by humans. That is far more terrifying than just a dinosaur Pokemon. And much more believable that it could cause irreparable damage to arvin's Pokemon. When I hear the battle music in area zero. The eerie vibe it tries to give off. I feel it in violet. Because these Pokemon are just weird. In Scarlet though? It's still nice music but it doesn't feel nearly the same because these are just Pokemon. In violet its like. Ok wtf are these things. Are they even alive. Which the characters do say and acknowledge in both games. So to me that just simply makes more sense in violet. Heck maybe these Pokemon are extinct in the future. Maybe that's why they are artificially created machines. We know terrakion is extinct now considering the only one that existed was turned into a robot by "an evil organization" that's a lot more interesting to think about
I mean , I'd say version exclusives are better than trade evos. At least version exclusives don't dangle half a Pokemon in front of your face unless you buy a second console and copy of the game.
Not only do version exclusives need to be dropped, but even Trade Evolutions. And funny thing is, Game Freak kinda has this sentiment already. It's still mechanically in the game, but through raids or even overworld encounters, NEEDING to trade for a Pokemon has become a thing of the past. Game Freak has even stopped making Pokemon that need to be traded to evolve with the last trade evolution Pokemon being Alolan Golem, and if we aren't counting regional forms, Gen 6 was the last gen to introduce trade evolution Pokemon. This proves that Game Freak does have an ear to the ground, and forcing ridiculous requirements like Gouging Fire and Raging Bolt is not only completely unnecessary, but a conscious decision. To not only have to pick the correct version, but the get the DLC and have the player catch around the ballpark of 300 Pokemon (because there is some overlap between dexs, thank GOD) is honestly ridiculous. I'm in the boat where Purple is my favorite color and the future Pokemon looked cool to me when I saw the leaks. Only to find out Flutter Mane is the best Pokemon since Zacian-Crowned AFTER the fact.
Version exclusives outside of the cover art legendary are literally pointless. Fun fact Heart Gold and Soul Silver removed this effect from the cover legendary Pokémon, get 16 gym badges and speak to a certain NPC and you can get both Ho-Oh and Lugia in a single game. This kind of feature is now removed by plot, sword and shield your rival will always get the other legendary Pokémon despite being a weakling and unworthy to be a Pokémon trainer according to themself. Scarlet and Violet the time machine gets butterfly effected out of existence so you can't use it to get the other paradox Pokémon you need. Honestly the dumbest one jas got to be Ambipom and Gliscor's lines being version exclusive Pokémon, basically unless you're trading spare shinies for legendary/Paradox Pokémon you need Nintendo switch online is virtually worthless in scarlet and Violet as they more often than not release cross version mass outbreaks that render the initial version exclusivity worthless as you can just literally wait for one of these to be announced and complete a Pokédex accordingly. They could probably fix the bugs in Scarlet and Violet with the space saved by removing several shiny locks and the stupidity of version exclusivity that they just ignore later anyway. So why even have bothered making the Pokémon version exclusive anyway if your going to go back on it months - a year or so from release? Heck you can even cheat the version exclusivity by using Pokémon home! Simply own any game interfaceable with home and drop the required Pokémon into Scarlet or Violet, you can even use Pokémon Go if you've caught the Pokémon your transferring in the game your sending it to. So many ways to simply ignore the rules built into the games, rendering many of them meaningless to have been implemented in the first place.
Idk if it’s the same with Scarlet/Violet, and I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if it was still the case. But in Sword/Shield I tried transferring a Kyogre from Go to my game only to be told I couldn’t do that until I had him registered in my Pokédex. Got super angry cause I already wasted a bunch of time testing a team on Pokémon Showdown and training 4 other Pokémon so I could potentially play competitive.
As i kid i hated version exclusives and trade evos so much. I had no way of trading before the DS era (because there was like no market to buy the link cables anywhere, and everything else was bought second-hand, until the DS games) and i had no friends who played the game or had a link cable.
I could only play the hacked version of blue on the family pc, or borrow my stepbrothers gameboy to play yellow or silver, and he never let me actually take his gameboy anywhere. When I finally got a nintendo ds and my own copy of pearl... none of my friends with a ds were interested in pokemon anymore.
@@suiway I had the luck that my sisters each had a DS as well, as well as some games of their own. But I could never trade from Gen 1 to 3, which is why I hate trade evos from the bottom of my heart
That actually is the reason, it's just a good chunk of the community are introverts and don't like socializing and thus they have to buy both versions if they want a complete pokedex.
Shockingly, it's possible for other people to not own nintendo handhelds and pokemon games, or even to have lost interest over time. It's really not that hard to just not have access to trading.
@@caiusdrakegaming8087By the time gen 4 came out and you could trade with out a link cable, i was the only one in my friend group who was still into pokemon. Lol at that point you were more likely to have no friends if you were still into pokemon.
Wow, didn't even talk about any other version exclusive things (like Team Magma/Aqua, Galar's Gym Leaders, or even how Unova has completely different locations based on the version)
Version exclusives were so bad in sinnoh, I mean they PLAYED anyone who bought pearl. Part of why I love gen 3 so much is because their version exclusives aren’t ones you’d want to seek out so it’s not nearly as bad as having say, both water psychic types in leaf green
Literally me. I got Pearl. No one to trade with. All my friends with a DS had lost interest in pokemon. I hated Pearl so much. Houndoom, the one pearl exclusive I actually like and one of the only fire types in the dex? Locked to post game. Hate Mindy. Completely killed my interest in pokemon for like a decade. I only got back into it during Sun and Moon era.
The most stupid one's are in xy. The megastones are version exclusive, but if the pokémon is a version exclusive and has a mega, you can only find its megastone in the other version. I want to send anyone who thought that was a good idea to jail.
6:44 At least in Scarlet and Violet, you can use Union Circle instead of trading and actually still get to go and catch version-exclusive Pokémon yourself. Even works for most Paradox Pokémon so you can get them with your OT despite their inability to create Eggs if you value that. I really liked that when I used it.
The other problem with trading stuff like Raging Bolt and Gouging fire is that you only get 1 of each per playthrough... With all the hoops you already mentioned... And Iron boulder is SUBSTANTIALLY less desirable to people than the others so if you got Violet you're extra screwed
Exactly this. If a Mon is going to be a version exclusive then they better damn well make it so we can catch multiples to trade. Otherwise it isn't encouraging trading. I happen to like my future robots (even if they all have uninspired names) but I like "catching them all" to try every option and I still can't complete the blueberry dex.
The other thing about trading is that the other person needs to have decided to take the time to get a good iv, correct nature version exclusive legendary.
Its worth mentioning that if you play multiplayer in scarlet and violet you can just get version exclusives that way. If you own violet and join a scarlet game of a friend you can catch their version exclusives because you exist in their host game. This became a full on feature in the DLC where some legendaries can only be obtained if you're playing in a group. For example in Scarlet. You can get reshiram in single player. But in Violet you get zekrom in single player. But if you play multiplayer quests you can get the opposite. This also applies to the event raids for walking wake and iron leaves. I just recently did this with my friend yesterday. They played on my game so they could get an iron leaves. And I joined theirs to get walking wake. This applies to any overworld spawn as well. If you want some Scarlet paradox Pokemon and you own violet. Just join up with someone who owns Scarlett go into area zero and catch them yourself. Because you won't be in your game anymore. You'll be in your friends version of the game. You'll be participating in their story and their version of the game. My friend and I discovered this when we joined each other for the first time and my friend was baffled that they could just catch one of my version exclusives
Really don't know why gamefreak didn't do the dlc paradox like that. In sun and moon, you could get multiple kartana, buzzwole, pheromosa and celesteela to keep one and trade for the other version. It would have been hell of a lot easier to get the paradox of both version if they did it like that
I was going to ask for Pokémon Sword when gen 8 was coming out, but the MINUTE I saw Galarian Ponyta I switched to Shield on a dime. It’s a pastel unicorn. Younger me COULD NOT resist.
Another problem you didn’t mention with trading Pokémon’s like Raging Bolt is that the people who got it legitimately will never want to trade one away with you and if someone accepts to, the odds that it’s hacked are really high. Now imagine you got a hacked one and the person who you traded with says it’s legit, so you bring that thing to a tournament and get banned from competition. Not worth it in my opinion
Yo not being able to get malwile or milotic in pokemon sapphire was one of the most frustrating things about Pokemon for me as a kid. And do not get me started on when i learned how you're supposed to catch feebas in the original sapphire
no version exclusives is part of the reason why i love pla no version exclusives no trade evolutions it was so good then to go back to the old way in sv was annoying :(
An example of version exclusivity that makes NO SENSE. In Pokemon S/M/US/UM You gain access to The Alternate World. It's basically the opposite version of whichever game you have. So, if you're playing Sun and you go through the portal, you'll be in a version of Alola with an Altar of the Moone and a Lake of the Moone instead of an Altar of the Sunne and a Lake of the Sunne. You are now playing on the map of the other game... however this only inverts the time. So, unfortunately, even though you are now in the world of Pokemon Moon, you can still only catch the Pokemon available in Pokemon Sun, and the Cosmog you will find at the alternate lake will NOT evolve into the other legendary, no matter how much grinding in the alternate world you do. It's BS, why not let the player have the other set of Pokemon? It's late game content anyway... Furthermore, in US/UM, you gain access to Ultra Wormholes. You can play a minigame of riding your box legendary, steering your Pokemon as you search for rare wormholes which will take you to places where you can catch legendaries... but only some of the legendaries... Despite the fact we are traveling through these Ultra Wormholes, which are basically taking us to alternate universes in different places and times... You are still limited. For example, you can only find Dialga in Ultra Sun by travelling through the wormholes... and Palkia in Ultra Moon. And you guessed it, Giratina can only be found if you have both Dialga and Palkia in your party while your travelling through the wormholes.
Considering every single game in the series has had trades, I'm 90% sure version exclusives are to promote interacting with other players. Which still boosts profits, because an active fanbase basically promotes the product for you. I doubt individuals buying both versions for themselves is the primary factor behind different versions.
I LOVE VERSION EXCLUSIVES I LOVE BEING BLOCKED FROM GETTING COOL POKEMON BECAUSE I DIDN’T BUY A SPECIFIC VERSION I LOVE HAVING TO GET A SECOND COPY OF A GAME JUST IN CASE I WANT TO USE THE OTHER VERSION’S POKEMON BECAUSE NONE OF MY FRIENDS THAT I KNOW IN PERSON PLAY POKEMON
IMO, B/W/2 should have been the last. I'd rather have options select like LEGENDS ARCEUS where the team you side with decide which legendary is story and which is post/boss battle.
I wish version rare was an actual therm, when I'm trying to look up what pokemon are more common in one game compared to another (or see what pokemon are concidered counterparts) I have no idea what to type, as it's not version exclusive, and everything else I try to type is either too long or just gives me version exclusive basically
I actually went through the effort to play scarlet and all the dlc twice so that I could trade Entwo and Raikool for Cobaltlion and IronRock… Only for Pokémon home (the thing I have to pay for) to let someone trade me a clearly hacked IronBoulder named with a website. My disappointment is grave, and if it somehow manages to punish me for daring to have a Pokémon it decided was legitimate in the future, I will SCREAM
I hate version exclusives especially when I was completing the dex when I was completing my dex in pokemon moon I needed to use my sisters copy of Sun it was an annoying experience and I don't even want to talk about the ultra games with the legendarys in the ultraworm holes
Atleast Game Freak do promote trading Pokemon among people through these tactics. Meanwhile in Pokemon Go, you really can't complete your pokedex (especially legendaries/shinies) through only trading. There are region exclusive Pokemon, meaning if someone lives in America and wants a mon that's exclusive to Asia, Niantic will expect them to either travel to Asia to catch that mon, or spend star dust (the in game currency) to be able to trade for it to complete the pokedex. Moreover, the stronger variants of regular mons (ie, shadow mons) can't even be traded, meaning that you will have to get them yourself only. Niantic can only actively discourage trading more.
Wouldn't it save production time and costs if they moved away from the multi version model. The multiple versions model just feels dated in the dlc era of things.
Tbh Scarlet and Violet fixes this slightly with union circles. If you know someone with the other version you can catch version exclusives in the Union circle
Yeah, it’s one thing to make Pokémon version exclusive, it’s another to make things like clothes, certain items, curry ingredients, & WHOLE LOCALES version exclusive.
Something I wish happens someday is that they sell 1 version, but then have something in-game plot wise allow for a player to choose their version. Looking at the western release of Yo-Kai Watch 3 for my example, because literally there's a plot check that's like "ok what's better Sushi or Tempura" (Japanese versions were Sushi and Tempura). Something extra nice is that there was another prompt or two asking again "do you like this or this" in an obvious way to change your mind. This makes it so players during the main story choose a version without needing to do it at purchase, and means they only need 1 version. You'd still need to play multiple playthroughs, but fortunately you can have multiple saves with switch profiles (although I'd love there to be even just 2 save slots in Pokemon, Yo-Kai Watch 3 has 2 and the previous ones have 3 slots, so I'd like Pokemon to catch up in that regard)
Gengar is one of my favorite gen 1 pokemon. The amount of time in between gengar being released and me finally getting to use it on a team is EIGHTEEN YEARS. And it wasn't even an official game, it was an emerald romhack.
When I first got sapphire version I thought clamperl was a nice little pre-evolution to shellder then down the line o found out it was a split trade evolution to gorebyss and huntail which left me really confused
I liked how Illumise and Volbeat got handled better, one is super rare but they both at least exist in the game normally, wish a few more Version Exclusives were like that...
I perfectly love version exclusives, sure the list can become extensive in some games RIP trading with my friends for 4 hours on Discord BUT it is still fun!!
"Where's the fun in that?" Trading literally is the one fun thing that let Pokémon stand out among mon games in the 90s and made it the giant that it now is.
@@TheEbrithil2 Unfortunately I don't have Nintendo Online as I don't have a job rn. I don't think Nintendo Online should even cost money, it didn't cost money on the 3ds or DS.
Personally for someone who never bought the other versions of Pokemon games, version exclusivity has become less and less of a problem. Mainly because of being able to freely transfer Pokemon from Pokemon Go or for example Shield over Home towards the new games, once the update was established. Something neat about Home, which I didn't know for a long time, is that you can actually "steal" Pokémon from the boxes of diffrent accounts on the switch system. So it is possible to obtain copies of legendaries to trade away in the GTS, but ofc its still quite tedious. And while the free home version only has 30 storage spaces you can technically have accounts on the switch made dedicated to hoard Pokémon in larger quantities without paying. So to me personally Version exclusivity has kindof become pointless. However I think a big reason to keep it around for the Pokémon Company is marketing. People discussing wether Koraidon or Miraidon is cooler is a good way to keep people thinking about Pokémon to ensure ther market dominance.
@@basecatXD Gen 7 had some really awesome designs imo, it got me back into pokemon after my experience with Pearl killed my interest for years. I greatly prefer regional variants to all the other "new form/evo" gimmicks because it adds variety with out overwriting the old ones or requiring some elaborate in story explanation for why its region exclusive. It makes perfect sense that there would be variants of pokemon based on location, same as real animals. Region exclusives I don't hate like version exclusives.
I admit they can get repetitive if you're not willing to expend a lot of time in the game, but I actually liked doing it. Also some were really funny, like Azelf having a jab at it's best move being explosion.
Wasnt as bad when the games were 30 bucks and no dlc since i always got the 3rd version which usually gave the ones i was missing but once they stopped doing that and raised the prices it became a pain and wasn’t worth trying to get them all I would just wait for the next gen to get the ones i missed or the wifi events. They really need to stop version exclusives and just make one game on release and invest more time into polishing the game.
@LPBvgc yeah but I shouldn't have to use a separate device to trade in general and it should just be in the game not one a separate app. You can't honestly defend that.
What are your thought in "light" version exclusives, where in the Sword and Shield DLC you have the choice of getting a different legendary over other? You still need to trade but at least you can get the Pokémon you want at first.
playing older pokémon games and trying to complete the pokédex hurts my soul. i’m a completionist and always try to complete everything a game has to offer. when i can’t get certain pokémon because of either past events version exclusives and Trade evos it physically hurts me and it really shouldn’t But it dose. i can trade but It’s annoying as hell and i’d rather not do it. i also have ways to get event pokémon though it’s also very annoying. version exclusives require me to straight up play a second game Just to complete the fucking game. Trading shouldn’t be mandatory. just like what you said with legends you can not trade and still complete the game Fully. it’s just a complete game with no events Exclusives and it even gave you a alternative to Evolving trade pokémon without Actualy trading. It shouldn’t be this frustrating to Do what the slogan of the franchise tells you to do.
I think the concept was great for gens 1 and 2. Since Pokemon was meant to be a game you can play with your friends and connect via the link cable, it wouldn’t have been as egregious to have a few that are exclusives in each version. But these days, the practice seems to have well over stayed its welcome. This is especially true when looking at legendaries like the genies, the regis, the origin trio, etc. whenever you need the other game’s exclusive to unlock the third one. I’m okay not having access to Glameow in Diamond because I already feel like I’ve seen more than enough with all of the Team Galactic battles. But needing both Thundurus and Tornadus to get Landorus? Seems a bit much (especially with how good it became in competitive). They should have abandoned the practice with Gen 3 and resorted to what you described with opposite versions having opposite encounter rates for certain mons.
The entire point of the version divisions was to encourage people to trade with each other, not necessarily to encourage one person to buy both versions.
The Problem with that: Raging Bolt and Scourging Fire as well as their violet counterparts are limited to one encounter per file. You can trade forth and back to fill your Pokedex while keeping your Pokémon (and letting your trade partner keep theirs) but It#s not that easy to get all of them on a single file, because who would actually want to send away their Pokémon without being able to get another one of the same species? Since Scarlet's paradox forms are way more popular than violet's ones, most Scarlet players probably won't be trading their "superior" paradox form away to get an "inferior" one. The whole system is just a big heap of bs. In order to get all paradox forms without trading, you would have to pay around 190 - 205 bucks (120 for both main games, 70 for both versions of the DLC and between 3 and 16 for Pokémon Home so you can transfer between files. Plus you would also need a NSO membership which costs up to 20 bucks (for a one year membership) or up to 40, if you wanna have the expansion pack as well. Paying around 200 bucks in order to get four Pokémon on one file... that's just crazy...
Ya but some pokemon fans also seem to have this delusional idea that if you have access to pokemon games you automatically have access to trading but like... it's actually super easy to have access to a pokemon game but not trading.

And that's another reason why I love PLA so much, you can do everything in that game alone, and without anyone else's help too.
They did violet so wrong with those iron pokémon
I like the future paradox pokemon, robots are cool 😊
@@foxpokemonforever4775 They literally have no variations like how ancient pokémon. They just turn them into robots, slap iron at the front of a name and call it a day. The ancient pokémon get cool unexpected designs and you never know what the name would be
Crazy how that’s basically the point
Industrial standard futuristic pokemon

Yes trade evolutions too, I forgot about that
Version exclusives outside of the cover art legendary are literally pointless.

@@caiusdrakegaming8087By the time gen 4 came out and you could trade with out a link cable, i was the only one in my friend group who was still into pokemon. Lol at that point you were more likely to have no friends if you were still into pokemon.
Forgot that trading is mostly unusable as the PC doesn't want to fix impossible, hack pokémon and ppl asking for stupid trades.
Wow, didn't even talk about any other version exclusive things (like Team Magma/Aqua, Galar's Gym Leaders, or even how Unova has completely different locations based on the version)
To be fair, those bring it closer to two seperate games.
I really liked that when I used it.
oh nice
I will just assume that is true
Thank arceus for legends arceus
0:37 I BOUGHT VIOLET FOR GULPIN NOT EVEN KIDDING 😭😭😭
Real one
Welp in pokemon go you have to travel to a completely different countries to get them
Imagine going to Alaska only for a pachirisu😂
Really don't know why gamefreak didn't do the dlc paradox like that. In sun and moon, you could get multiple kartana, buzzwole, pheromosa and celesteela to keep one and trade for the other version. It would have been hell of a lot easier to get the paradox of both version if they did it like that
4:40 i did not expect to hear aespa in a Pokemon video but i thank you for doing so
Pokémon Legends Arceus is proof that we don't need version exclusives anymore
I was going to ask for Pokémon Sword when gen 8 was coming out, but the MINUTE I saw Galarian Ponyta I switched to Shield on a dime. It’s a pastel unicorn. Younger me COULD NOT resist.
Solution: Put every Pokémon in either version except the Legendaries. Then they’d still be unique, only the Legendary is version-exclusive.

I thought I was getting an april fools vid D:
Never knew he lived I a closet in his mom’s basement
Bruh calling Koraidon and Miraidon "sandwich eating motorbikes"
Considering every single game in the series has had trades, I'm 90% sure version exclusives are to promote interacting with other players. Which still boosts profits, because an active fanbase basically promotes the product for you. I doubt individuals buying both versions for themselves is the primary factor behind different versions.
I think it was Satoshi who said that was the original reason. Don't quote me on that.

Well, the job application line hit me square in the face.

Wouldn't it save production time and costs if they moved away from the multi version model. The multiple versions model just feels dated in the dlc era of things.
As someone who tried to get a gouging fire from the Home gts, I would like to say it is nearly impossible, espocslly if you want a legit one
Tbh Scarlet and Violet fixes this slightly with union circles. If you know someone with the other version you can catch version exclusives in the Union circle

4:41 Aespa Welcome to MY World mention
ONLY IF they done it for a reason like SV,that encoureges actually playing the other version
I thought of a game with a $30 skeleton game, then your choice of $30 add-ons. Comes with three saves, plus an additional three for each DLC you buy.
If you think these are bad trade evolutions are in some ways even worse
Gengar is one of my favorite gen 1 pokemon. The amount of time in between gengar being released and me finally getting to use it on a team is EIGHTEEN YEARS. And it wasn't even an official game, it was an emerald romhack.

@@falcon_arkaig I agree on that. But isn't GTS trading in Pokémon Home possible without Premium?

You still need to trade but at least you can get the Pokémon you want at first.

Maybes it’s time they stick with one version of the games instead of two
Well this video technically had an intro.
April fools?
14 year old me: Buys both Diamond and Pearl
Me now: Uses emulators to play my older pokemon games
Black and white remakes releasing earlier it’s just barbaric! We aren’t even in gen 10 yet fans can be so dumb
