    Evolution (not ingame that is basically metamorphosis, but actual evolution), could be the answer: Charizard is a recently evolved reptile that hasn't adapted enough to have a different type than Fire, and can't get rid of Flying type to have its wings functional.
    The other option, is thst maybe it was Fire-Dragon like Turtonator, but given the evolutionary circumstances, the growing of wings and the capacity of air control that gives Flying type, was better suited for their recently developed wings.

      I think that has to do with the fact that the concept of a Dragon in Japan is different then what we use in the West. For example, Ryū is Japanese for "dragon" and can be found in the Japanese term for "dinosaur", kyōryū. Meaning a Dragon in Japan is basically just a giant reptile, hence why most Dragon-type Pokemon are just that, giant reptiles. Could explain why so many reptile Pokemon are in the Dragon Egg Category despite not being dragons.
      The reason why Charizard isn't a Dragon-type despite being clearly Dragon-like is because it's main charactaristic, is that it's a flying fire creature, hence the Fire/Flying types. It's the same reason why Serperior is also not a Dragon-type despite being reptile in appearence. It's basically just a living vine that looks like a snake.

    True, it's extremely specific and not likely to happen very often, but there's already been coding in the games for *exactly* such a trio-type combo since Gen 6.
    Use Gourgeist's signature move, Trick-Or-Treat, on a Heracross or such, and voila! You now have temporary access to a Bug/Fighting/Ghost Pokémon.
    (Although this particular setup is not availavle in Gen 9, similar trio-types can be made by adding the Grass type instead, using Trevenant's signature move, Forest's Curse, which actually is still in Gen 9.)

    I'm a firm believer that there used to be more "anatomical" types in the early game design. Most notably beast, fish, and bird. Which is why we have so many normal/flying types. They were all supposed to be normal/birds to contrast the legendary elemental ones and make them seem even more powerful.
    Tinfoil hat still on, this is why rock and ground were two separate types, because rock was the anatomical type and ground was the element type. In this tinfoil hat Charizard, Gyarados, Aerodactyl were all supposed to have dragon as the second type(flying had yet to be established) and Dragonite was a pure flying type.
    Then at some point, maybe they were trying to curtail how powerful Charizard, Gyarados, and Aerodactyl were since they were all easily obtained early on, or maybe they were trying to save space, or maybe simplify the already complex type chart, they created flying type, gave it to all the dragons (dropping the dragon type from the 3 that were already dual type) changed the birds to flying, and stuck it on every other monotype that had wings i.e. Butterfree, Zubat, Golbat, scyther. Since all the fish types were water they just dropped that type completely (tough cookies Chi-Yu) and beast type probably didn't have any remaining meaningful interaction so it was canned.
    Again though that is with a tinfoil hat, so take those thoughts with a grain of salt

    Types are related to Typed Energy. This is canon. It's a soft magic system, and not literally what they are. Fire Type moves are not quite literal fire. It's Typed energy with Fire-Like properties. Same reason how Ponyta can burn something they want, yet magically choose not to burn something.
    So types are really just what energy a Pokemon has flowing through them. Being capable of Flight does not make you a Flying Type. Having a lot of Flying Type Energy, as Typed energy, within you makes you Flying Type. You can also lose access to a type, or have your type change completely.

Especially when there is a lot of "flying" pokemon and "bird" pokemon that are the same, so they would be a "flying bird" pokemon, which is redundant if you have flying, which is more versatile as well(until they introduced levitate and severly underutilized the flying aspect that it can give).

      The Typing generally refers to the Energy that the Pokemon can harness, Like fire pokemon, can harness Fire.
      Dragon Pokemon, can harness Dragon Energy.
      Not Everything that LOOKS Like a dragon, can harness Dragon Energy. Therefore, it can be a dragon without being a Dragon Type.

  • @ianvandijk840
    @ianvandijk840 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    Mikey, it's a good video with clear explanations, but I think the reason why Charizard is a fire/flying type is much simpler. If Charizard had become a dragon type in Gen 1, it would mean that it would be mega overpowered. In Gen 1, dragon types had only two weaknesses, ice and other dragon types. Since the Dratini line are the only dragon types in Gen 1, you would need a Dragonite to stand a chance against Charizard. However, if Charizard were also a dragon type, it would mean it could also take out that Dragonite before you do that with Charizard. Then you have the ice types, the problem with them is the fact that they are weak against fire types. With this, they would also have little chance against Charizard, the only Pokémon that might have a chance could be Dewgong but for the rest very few. The reason Charizard is a fire/flying type is simply to maintain balance in the games. With Charizard as a fire/flying type, you have access to multiple Pokémon that can take on Charizard. That's I think the main reason Charizard didn't become a fire/dragon type.
    PS, you forgot Garchomp as a Pokémon with wings but without the levitate ability.

    • @charizardpropaganda
      @charizardpropaganda 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      In gen 1, fire/dragon Charizard would be weak to ice type because fire didn't resist ice back then. And Blastoise can learn ice type moves so it wouldn't be an issue in gen 1. It's a different story in gen 1 remakes though.

      Garchomp is an especially weird one, because while they are used as wings, it makes more sense for them to simply be find, as the Gible line are sand _sharks_

    Meanwhile, there's Iron moth and that jellyfish thing (Niheligo?), which are capable of levitating but have a double weakness to ground and can't have levitate due to their group's abilities.
    Conclusion: Iron moth is a non-iron moth which can't moth. (Why poison? I get that the materials for solar panels/ the ways to get them can be dangerous, but still, why not flying?)
    Niheligo isn't often used for a reason, and it's not because of its stats. (You could tell anyone, who doesn't know wth is this, that it is a water and electric/poison, even a Flying type pokemon and they could believe you, But rock poison just seems absurd)
