Not including Parental bond is crazy. This was THE ability that changed the trend “what if we gave an exclusive busted ability to a bad pokemon” to “what if we gave an exclusive busted ability to any pokemon”.
I'm guessing the main reason he didn't is that it literally doesn't exist anymore as it was exclusive to a pokemon form that is currently unobtainable and we don't even know if the return of megas will affect vgc or if every previous mega will return to begin with

I came up with a fun new ability. "Ultimate Homie" mixes Intimidate with Friend Guard so that your opponents basically can't hurt your partner while you're on the field. I feel like we should give this to a niche Pokemon. Maybe the possible Mega Incineroar in Pokemon Z-A. Yeah, I feel like he needs it.

Don't get me wrong, having intimidate+friend guard sounds busted, but the whole purpose of intimidate is cycling that, and friend guard's purpose is to stay on the battlefield as much as possible, so they kinda clash

I think they deliberately chose that not for game balancing purposes but because they thought the joke was funny. It's akin to getting the 100 Korok seed reward in Breath of the Wild.

The reason Pure Power is different from Huge Power is because Huge Power is a rabbit pun in Japanese (hence why only rabbit-like Pokemon get it)
Also, shoutouts to Orichalcum Pulse and Hadron Engine. Weather/Terrain-setting abilities are already extremely powerful, and this is just that but it also makes them hit higher Atk/SpA than the Mega Mewtwos (and that's not even factoring in the boost from the environment)

We've gone from abilities that do literally nothing in battle, like Illuminate, to "Pokémon will ignore protect, ignore stat raises, +6 atk spd when pokemon are KOd, and KOs enemy on contact moves"
Yes urshifu does all that with its ability and totally not just the first part of that
The 2 illuminate pokemon I can think of are Illumise and Lanturn. One also has Prankster, the other has both water/volt absorb. Why talk about Illuminate like its the only thing those mons would ever use?

I love how there's an ability that only protects you from status IN THE SUN, and now there's two abilities that protect you from status unconditionally. One of them also makes you resist Ghost attacks... And the other completely blocks Defog on a Pokemon that already is immune to Rapid Spin AND Mortal Spin.
Leaf guard is the one ability that I think should just be deleted due to it ruining potential good pokemon by doing practically nothing *cough cough meganium cough*
Leaf guard should increase defenses in sun, leaf armor.
@@aronspiker72 I'd throw a couple other abilities onto that pile. The big offenders to me are Plus and Minus, Heavy and Light Metal, and the "information gathering" abilities (Forewarn, Anticipation, Frisk).
Good as gold doesn't protect you from status conditions inflicted by attacking moves like nuzzle.

Yeah. Like they didn't have to amazing, but at least something unique rather than stapling "Pressure" onto everyone's head.
That's where you're wrong. Mewtwo got Pressure which is so good it even got banned to Ubers for that reason. Raikou, Entei, and Suicune got Pressure, Pressure, and Pressure, respectively, to make sure you're wasting your PP attacking them. Lugia and Ho-oh, on the other hand, got Pressure. Kind of refreshing seeing Legendaries with some new abilities, if you ask me. Dialga and Palkia really stood out with their new ability called Pressure.
Gen 6, you could argue Gen 5, was the start. The Gen 5 boxes have Mould Breaker, the genies are the genies, and the Swords kill everything after switching into Knock Off
then reshiram and zekrom got something cool and unique called mold breaker

I think the joke behind Purifying Salt is that not only does it remove impurities from Garganacl’s salt (status effects), but Garganacl’s spirit is also pure of evil spirits, hence the ghost resistance
A circle of salt is also a traditional way of repelling evil spirits.
Also if you have watched Mob Psycho 100 then you would know how salt is connected to spirits

History and documentation: very deep and nuanced explanation of how salt is connected to ghosts and spirits

I've always wondered why they've never made Intimidate for Special Attackers. Physical Attackers in general get a shorter end of the stick with thing like confusion using Physical Attack along with burns (even though Legends gave us frostbite which is 10x better than freeze but of course we can't just have all the good things from one game to the other). I feel like giving a few good Pokemon Special Intimidate would even the disparity a bit. We could call it.....idk Mystic Aura. Name is a work in progress.

The first two are only seen in OU/Singles and almost never in VGC/Doubles
Also Unseen Fist is amazing in Smogon singles cause it makes Gliscor and wish passers Clefable and Umbreon think twice about Protect spam.

In terms of box art legendaries’ abilities, the creation trio (minus giratina-o) and the tao trio really got the short end of the stick. The light trio’s signature moves even have mold breaker/turboblaze/teravolt built into them
Even the light trio didn't get anything unique
Solgaleo got clear body
Lunala got multyscale
And necrozma got filter
Aside from ultranecrozma(he had a built-in expert belt if I remember correctly) they weren't that original with them either outside of the fact that mold breaker doesn't work on them(at least it's something)

tbh shadow tag chandelure in singles still would have been out of this world broken. but most of the other ones are hilariously tame compared to what we're getting nowadays, yeah, hahaha
i think -ates (glaciate, aerilate, pixilate, etc), poison heal and guts deserve some attention for just how much they end up doing for a mon with them
also triage but considering only comfey has it it's easy to forget about it

The thing is that, apart from Mega-salamence, who's should not even exist, is the only one that breaks the balance with an -ate ability imho.
The others, are very good, but have some drowbacks, like the need of an item.
Also, they just make some Pokémon reliable, when otherwise would not be.
Gliscor before without poison heal, was good just in gen 4 ou, and not even that.
Flareon is still useless even with guts. Same goes for Luxray.
Breloom, without poison heal, is just good for nothing.
The real problem is giving broken abilities to broken Mons. Like unaware on Dondonso

Wonder what kind of abilities will be introduced next gen. I always wanted powder to return as a weather condition that increased bug type Pokémon’s accuracy on top of the effect it had on fire.
This is just an old ability from when Megas were in meta, but do ya'll remember Mega Rayquaza's Delta Stream?
It summoned "Strong Winds" which was active so long as Rayquaza was on the field, completely removed the weaknesses of electric, ice, and rock it and other flying types had, couldn't be replaced via most abilities or moves, and the two abilities able to bypass it were Cloud Nine and Air Lock (both of which are abilities meant to suppress the weather). Not even Mold Breaker could bypass it.
I am /so/ glad that this crazy son of a gun got banned.

I’m horrified since megas are coming back, that there is even the slightest chance that Mega Ray’s coming with it.
I mean, it only halved the Super-effective damage dealt to Flying-type Pokemon. I think it still left Rayquaza with a x2 weakness to ice as a result of being a Dragon-type.
If anything, I was disappointed other Pokemon didn't get access to the "Strong Winds" weather as it seemed like a neat take on a weather.
Whilst the ability was great and helped keep Mega Ray alive, the biggest reason for Mega Ray's bustedness was simply because he didn't need no mega stone to mega evolve. You could slap a choice item on him, you could give him life orb, you could give assault vest if you were feeling spicy.
The primals could overwrite it, but they might not come back, here.
One day we'll have a legendary trio of:
-can learn 5 moves
-can select 2 moves per turn
-Can hold 2 items.
5 moves already exists, thats basically z-moves.
2 moves a turn sorta exists, but only in the legends arceus game, so sorta doesnt count.
While 2 items doesnt exist yet, some abilities replicate the function of specific items, oralloes berries to be used multiple times.

I think it's because of the combination of the ability + being on a steel/ghost tank
It blocks defog (used in singles) unlike magic bounce which would remove hazard either way.

The only other abilities i think would be on that level of all-importance is the weather abilities. Drizzle, drought, sand stream, snow warning, and of course the primal weathers

Speed boost is one of those bosted abilities. In singles it can make a pokemon uber worthy. The only reason why it has almost never seen usage in doubles is because there are no speed boost pokemon who are good in doubles (blaziken, scolipede, yannega and ninjask)
(Also, maybe a change to as one could be to boost special defense and defense respectively instead of offensive stats)
This channel is single handedly helping me to use Pokemon efficiently in-game.

With that 105 base attack, it could surpass even the hardest hitters in the game like Deoxys Attack or Mega Mewtwo X

The fact that literal GODS like Palkia, Giratina and Dialga still only have pressure and telepathy and not something unique is so frustrating.
The first true worthwhile signature abilities were the Gen 6 legends since gens 3-4 Groudon and Kyogre
Turboblaze/Teravolt is a glorified Mold Breaker, whiling Full Metal Body, Shadow Shield, and Prism Armor (which all came after Gen 6 btw) are all glorified Clear Body, Multiscale, and Solid Rock respectively with the only difference being none are affected by Mold Breaker
Every other box-art/mascot legend either only has Pressure or a signature ability that’s batshit insane

I'm suprised weather setting abilities were not mentioned. These are like the Tapu's Terrain before it existed (sort of). The things weather effects can do, especially when combined with Weather boosted abilities like Swift Swim is crazy in both doubles and singles alike

Here's an idea for a Pokemon I got that has a possibly busted ability: Thermolope. It's a Fire/Electric-type antelope whose horns are a thermocouple. It gets the ability Thermocouple, which if it gets hit by a Fire-type move, its next Electric-type move has 50% more power, and if it gets hit by a Electric-type move, its next Fire-type move has 50% more power. Here's what I'm thinking for a stat line:
Total: 480
HP: 90
Attack: 70
Defense: 50
Sp. Atk: 85
Sp. Def: 100
Speed: 85
Now here's the movepool. For Fire STAB, I'm thinking of stuff like Flame Charge, Flare Blitz, Temper Flare, and Blaze Kick on the physical side, while its special side gets Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Heat Wave, and Lava Plume. For Electric STAB, its physical options are Wild Charge (which I want to buff to 120 BP) and Supercell Slam, but as it's an Electric-type, it wants special moves, so it gets Volt Switch, Thunderbolt, Thunder, Discharge, and Rising Voltage. Pokémon Cloud and Soil has a Bug/Dragon Pokémon called Pymotha with a pretty nutty ability called Ember Wings
If it’s hit with a Fire move, it restores 25% of its max HP and gets burned instead. Then it boosts Atk and SpA by 50% if the Pokémon is burned (ignores Burn attack drop)

With all the unhinged abilites Gamefreak has been releasing every new gen, I'm surprised that they still have not made the obvious ability that sets up Trick Room and/or Gravity when the Pokémon switches in. We've had the primal weather trio with improved versions of their own weathers that also negate their weaknesses, the Tapus that set up the special terrains, intrepid sword raising Zacian's already massive attack to ridiculous levels for absolutely free, and As One wich as you've said, is two excellent abilities just mashed together and given to an already busted legendary mon, but somehow, there is one person at the game balance team who is aware of how the game would be completely warped for the worse around those hypothetical abilities and fights their hardest to not let them happen.
Idk how good they would be in vgc but Fluffy/Fur Coat and Ice Scales are also really good abilities that are just on mid mons. In singles, Poison Heal and Magic Guard are def up there too. Good vid for sure.
