    Hi,
    Have you tried the new H4 essential mic by zoom? I dont know much about audio but the audio quality from zoom internal mic is not crisp clear as it is advertised. It sounds like it is compressed and not clear also when I upload to computer the audio levels are too low
    I would share the files If you have the time to check them

      I haven’t used the H4, only the H6. For amateur video recording it’s OK. For music related audio recording, I would go with the ZOOM R8 as its recorded audio quality is considerably better provided you use an external microphone.

    Great job. I do disagree with the KSM32 not being good for vocals. It has the smoothest sibilance of any of the mic's I use. I haven't tried the AKG C414 XLS for vocals yet, but I plan to do an A/B against the KSM32 sometime soon. Again, great job. Thanks for sharing.

      First, thank you for leaving a comment. It’s very much appreciated. You are right! However, you and I are actually both right, depending on the context of course. That is to say, although the KSM-32 might make some voices sound very pleasant and warm in a stand-alone track, the vocal track gets completely lost if it’s placed into a musical mix, making the recording significantly less usable if you want the vocals to come out to the front. This is because the KSM-32 is rather (dark and) flat in terms of its frequency response.

      Maybe so, especially for big songs with lots going on. Could you give me a few recommendations for a primary vocal LDC, where quiet, up-close, yet textured singing could cut through heavy mixes ? Something very present but not brittle or harsh, still having a smooth top end. Probably $400 to $1400 price range. Thanks !@@ZPJ_Studio

      @@steverok67 Wow! That’s a tall order. The SM58 can do it if you're on a tight budget. (I find the Beta series to be brittle.) May even get better results with a soyuz launcher. The AKG 414 xls comes recommend (I find the XL2 can be harsh, but with an Avalon 737sp it can be magic; same with the TLM-103). Effectively, harsher mics can be tamed with compression and the right type of preamp. The right de-essers can help as well. I assume you have a total budget. EQ boost at 8,000-10,000 Hz can help as well. It all depends on the mix; the type of instruments in the mix. Maybe get a UAD Sphere modeling mic; many mics on a budget. I am afraid there is no silver bullet for this task, at least not on a tight budget, but the Sphere might be your best option considering the range of mics you can get for your price range. Also, if you're using a condenser mic with switchable polar patterns, switching between cardioid and omni modes might make the difference. With the Sphere DLX ($1,499 on Sweetwater), all of this is possible post recording as it’s a dual capsule mic and the software does it all for you with the click of a mouse. With traditional mics, these settings must be set prior to recording. Overall, my highest recommendation would be to get a UAD Sphere DLX as it could very well cover ALL your basis, with only $99 over your intended $1,400 budget cap.

      @@ZPJ_Studio Thank you for the reply. I've used an older sE Electronics 2200a, effectively, for this sort of thing in the past, and I still have it. Just looking to upgrade to something that does a better job with sibilance but still cuts through, and I prefer to achieve this at the source, i.e., with just my voice & the mic, plus post-compression, EQ, and FX.
