The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). @@cooperc4060 It was a great show :) with pyro, screens, lights. I was right in the group in front of the stage, about 25 meters away, so I could see everyone well. Open air, in a concrete parking lot in Romexpo, an audience of around 10k, and the weather was perfect. Many young people in the crowd, that made me happy. My ears rang the next day :) luckily I had a set of earplugs. I took some pictures, plus 2 short video recordings with my mobile phone, which turned out surprisingly well.
Three years ago, they went into my playlist. Now they pretty much ARE my playlist. They just finished their 2022 North American tour- I saw them in NYC. Unbelievable!
I also have a playlist which lasts just long enough for my hour+ drive to and from work. It's on random so never in the same order. Also not sorry to anyone else in my car. My car my rules.

Every time I hear her ending notes I start crying and laughing at the same time. There is no one else who can match the Valkyrie Goddess of Symphonic Metal Floor Jansen as a vocalist. She has perfected her craft as no other Metal singer ever has.
Floor is truly a once-in-a-generation talent. She can sing anything…any song, any style, any genre…and make it her own. The band is very diverse…not all of their songs sound like this…in fact, no two of their songs really sound alike. Anything live by them, especially from 2013 until the present, while Floor’s been the singer, is can’t miss. But, from this same Wacken 2013 show, I’d recommend Song of Myself, Storytime, Everdream, and Romanticide. ☮️

Just in my country alone I know 20 female young singers in their 20's and 30's who are better than her, so nope, not a once-in-a-generation talent, your standards are just skewed because you're probably used to listening to garbage. She's great but not spectacular. 8/10 at best, but that's still better than all the 3/10's in the mainstream music industry.

Originally Floor was sent by Allfather Odhinn to Midgard to gather the souls of fallen warriors to Valhalla, but she got distracted and joined a series of bands. However, Floor still gathers souls by her grace, beauty and the sheer power of her vocals. Welcome to the greatest band on the planet. Six musical geniuses who see each other as family, who perform without ego. Tuomas, the keyboardist, composes about 95% of their music, and I consider him the greatest composer of my lifetime. His music is multi-layered, and he uses tracks recorded with the London Philharmonic that he triggers with his keyboards in concert, including vocal choir tracks. Each song is unique, but equally great. when they call Tuomas the Metal Mozart, it isn't hyperbole. My formative years were in the late 70's and 80's, and up until I found NW, I felt like Prince was the greatest song writer, arranger, composer in music history....Tuomas is right there with him. Combining metal with classical music (the symphonic part) can't be easy, and not only does he write great songs he knows exactly how to take advantage of everyone in the band's particular talents.

I've been listening to Nightwish since '97, and when I first heard her performance, uncontrollable tears poured down my face! It hit me hard because I've listened to them for decades, and to hear someone sing it with so much soul and emotion, overwhelmed my senses. It gave me so much nostalgia hearing an old, classic song being born again though her voice!🤘🏾❤
Greatest show I have ever seen in my life, when I saw them the first time a couple of months ago in NYC, at a much smaller venue than this lol. Floor's stage presence and voice are just spellbinding. She's the greatest active singer right now, imho. You should check out more from this show, but also a few others, live. They are all so good that they are even better live, which is a rarity. Truly amazing.
There are a few bands that I have seen that are similar in that they are better live, even when their studio stuff is amazing. I would put Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Genesis/Peter Gabriel, Grateful Dead, Santana and a few others in that category (each for different reasons). I also saw my first NW concert a few months ago, near Washington DC and it easily goes into my top 10 favorite concerts (out of well over 150).

They're touring as we speak , i had the privilege of seeing them in NYC back in May and im still shook , probably the best live band ive ever seen and ive seen alot of bands .

Since you were impressed by Floor's outfit, this would be another approach getting to know Nightwish: React to one song from different Nightwish concerts and you will see Floor wearing different outfits - Wembley Arena 2015, Tampere 2015, Buenos Aires 2018, Hellfest 2022, Deichbrand Festival 2022. Currently she has two outfits, I prefer the one she wore at Hellfest. The Wembley outfit is propably my favorite - with and without the jacket.

Nightwish Army North Texas division reporting for duty. Welcome to the wonderful world of Floor Jansen and Nightwish. This is an amazing, unique, and diverse band, that is well worth exploring. This is just the tip of the iceberg. This show was in 2013 and was fire from beginning to end. This was song #13 of 15. There were over 80,000 in attendance. They did a limited North American tour in May. US shows are at considerably smaller venues. They are currently on tour in Europe now, and even with a couple of personnel changes since, are still putting on amazing shows at huge venues now. I am also from the United States, and I hesitated watching this band because how good can they be because I have never heard of them. One of the greatest bands I have ever heard, and currently the best there is from all I have heard. Floor Jansen is the lead singer, she is from the Netherlands, the band is from Finland. Floor's voice is perfection to me, and she can sing any style or genre as well as metal. Her nicknames from us her fans are : Queen of Metal or The Valkyrie Goddess. She was trained in opera and was a vocal coach, but has been fronting metal bands since she was 17 years old. She is 41 now, and she and Nightwish have never sounded better or stronger. I liked and subbed for your journey.

Hello and welcome to the phenomenal band that NW is! The band is Finnish. The leadwoman is Floor Jansen (Yahn-sen), Dutch, their 3rd and current singer. At the time of this concert she was only ten months with the band. End Sept 2012 she stepped in halfway the band's World Tour after the 2nd singer left the band. Floor had to learn the setlist in 48 hrs. Ghost Love Score was not on that list but she knew the song and loved it so they inserted it to it. She added the last high note to it and since then it became an enormous succes! The goosebumps are called "Floorgasms"😅This song is but the tip of a very, very high iceberg. Thats our Valkyrie Floor... she captures your eyes, then your ears, then your mind, and then she takes your soul... but you know what? She gives you your soul back in the end, incredibly enriched... and that's why we go into it again, and again, and again! BTW, no two songs by Nightwish are same, so if you maybe think you now know Nightwish think again... maybe after the first 100 or so songs... they are among us since 1996 so the is SOME library to choose from... And they allways been best live, so going for live recordings from big events (like this Wacken 2013) is usually the best thing you can do... they have professional audio and video quality.

When I first heard Nightwish, many years ago, it was a pretty big emotional experience for me. I had not heard anything like it before, and mostly listened to what was on the radio in Iowa. So I was pretty oblivious music could even sound like this. Years later, I'm always looking for a new sound, and creativity. I listen to a wide variety, and it's broadened my mind, and perspective. Music is the sound of the soul.
I got to see them live back in Orlando, October 2012, Floor had just been called in to replace the former singer mid tour, and I got my tickets in the mail the exact day the announced the lineup change. I had to convince my wife(girlfriend at the time) to give the new singer a chance since I was very familiar with her earlier work and knew she'd knock it out of the park. There are a lot of concerts I wish I'd gotten to see in my life, but this one I consider a privilege to get to witness this legend in the making before she blew up and started to wow the whole world. Nightwish is my favorite band and I will never forget that performance for the rest of my life.

This is only a fraction of what Floor, and the band, can do. As you will find out, every song is different, but all are awesome. Formed in 1996, they've had 3 lead singers, 3 bassists, and 2 drummers. Founding members, Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards, primary songwriter and composer) and Emppu Vuorinen (guitar) still remain. @@JyngerSlapz The thing you haven't experienced yet is when Marko starts singing. He is the absolutely perfect match for Floor, with a deeper voice and longer beard 😂. (Just kidding about the beard.). The harmonies are breathtaking. The other two from the "Holy Trinity" (besides Ghost Love Score) are "The Poet & The Pendulum" and "The Greatest Show On Earth." I highly recommend the Tempere version of the latter. Both need a bit of background research to fully understand the incredible brilliance and meaning behind them. The first being a highly personal piece for Tuomas, and the latter being the history of our planet in approximately 18 minutes. The detail and passion in each of them is dripping, and even a grown old fart like me watches them through tear-filled eyes every single time. Get your feet wet on others before you go there, but there just isn't a song that isn't a thousand times better than anything else out there. I'll be around to accompany you on your quest.

Floor is a classically trained soprano and has a vocal range of more than 3 octaves (D3 to F6+). Floor is the third female vocalist that Nightwish have had (and my personal favourite), she was only with them on tour for 10 months at this point and officially joined the band in 2013, she is still with them today. The other vocalists are - Tarja Turunen - (1996-2005) - (Finland) - Very operatic focused vocals. Anette Olzon - (2007-2012) - (Sweden) - More pop-centric vocals. Floor Jansen - (2012-Present) - (Netherlands) - Extremely diverse vocals, from deep growls to full on opera. The other band members are/were - Tuomas Holopainen - Song writer/composer and Keyboards. (Finland) Marko Hietala - Bassist and vocals. (Finland) Emppu Vuorinen - Guitarist (Finland) Jukka Nevalainen - Drums (Finland) Retired in 2014 due to health issues Troy Donockley - Multi-instrumentalist and Vocals. She has her own channel here on TH-cam where she regularly posts covers of songs. The band was formed in 1996 by lead songwriter/composer and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen. The name of the genre they generally belong to is Symphonic Metal but their discography is EXTREMELY varied. The "Symphonic" backing tracks of their music is composed in the majority by Tuomas and performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. This was the 13th song in this particular set, Floor is belting notes like that the entire set. Nighwish are almost always better experienced with LIVE versions of their songs if at all possible. Most new reactors are better off sticking with the Wacken 2013 set to begin with as it offers a taste of a lot of what Nightwish has to offer, they have multiple concerts though all of which are superb. Some suggestions for more songs for you to continue your journey would be Storytime, Romanticide, Ever Dream, Ghost River, I Wish I had an Angel, Song of Myself, Dark Chest of Wonders, I Want My Tears Back and Amaranth all from Wacken 2013 (pronounced Vacken). Saying that, anything from Wacken 2013 is golden really to start, there's a reason why that set is pretty legendary at this point, 82,000 people were in attendance. Beware of some messed up slowed down versions of the Wacken 2013 songs as they can take the energy right out of the performances, just check the comments on them and I'm sure someone will mention if it's a slowed down version. Your choice obviously but I'd avoid Poet and the Pendulum and The Greatest Show on Earth for now until you are more familiar with the band and it's history, they will make a lot more sense and be more enjoyable for you that way. Ok Jynger - you've come to two paths in the woods. Reading the comments below, they will encourage you to take the Nightwish path, only you just reacted to penultimate live performance ever recorded though I do enjoy their version of Ever Dream from the same Wacken show. Yes, not sure at the moment where you're located but they did a US tour earlier this year. An interesting note in regards to Floor joining the band - that happened in the Fall of 2012 where they fired their then singer Annette mid-tour, called Floor and asked her to learn the 17 song setlist in 48 hours while she flew from Europe to join them. Her day job. She wowed the 80K+ Wacken attendees this night which really heightens the energy in the room. I, on the other hand, would encourage you to take the Floor solo project path which really began in 2019 with her inclusion on a show called Beste' Zangers where she sang songs in several languages, from Operettic (Vilja Lied) to stage musical (Phantom of the Opera - duet) to pop (Solo of Shallow). In 2021 she did a live show in Amsterdam with songs like Storm in a Glass (rock) and Slow Love Slow (jazzy). Then this year she's followed it up with two singles from her up coming 2023 album, Fire (th-cam.com/video/rqwHMgo_DdQ/w-d-xo.html) and Storm (th-cam.com/video/8dAP8Mjgh_E/w-d-xo.html) - both of these links are live versions which I prefer over the official music videos - she is one whose voice needs no production to make it better. It was great seeing your reaction. I discovered Nightwish back in 2004 and they are still my favourite group today. I would recommend three more songs, Storytime, then Ever Dream, then Romanticide (you can get the links from Gabriel Bardac's post). since she performed this song way back in 2013 Floor has always refferred to that moment as "The Note" and she has actually gone on record to say that shes been sick as a dog at a concert once and when she hit that note she felt significantly more energy and 100% better. in many ways this song is *her* song.

I bet I’ve watched that video at least 40-50 times and get emotional every time. There is just something about her voice and this band that just seems to pull emotions out of you no matter what song it is. Not many bands and singers have the ability to do that. This band is without a doubt something special!
The bassist, Marco, is also classically trained and sings Opera to death metal as well. The two most common rx to multiple NW songs is "that was it what I expected" and "this is my new favorite NW song". Truly a surprising rabbit hole. Like Pink Floyd in that all songs unique and clearly them yet all truly different also

Great reaction. Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range, versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a spinto soprano with a range of around four octaves. Floor joined her first band (After Forever) at the very young age of 16. She also attended the Rock Academie in the Netherlands and studied opera and musical theater after that. Floor has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several Master vocal coaches (She is also a certified Master vocal coach). Floor can sing in multiple languages, styles and genres. She also speaks 5 languages. Floor often refers to herself as a vocal nerd. This Valkyrie goddess is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to Nightwish. The Band hired her in 2012 as a temporary replacement for their previous vocalist Anette Olson (2nd vocalist hired after the original Tarja) to finish out the North American tour. In 2013 Nightwish officially announced that Floor and multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Troy Donockley are now permanent members of the band. Welcome to the Nightwish rabbit hole. Gabriel, as you are fully aware, has provided essentially a foolproof way to enjoy Nightwish, and each song on his list is so different and yet so epic and amazing. They're really worth your time as you will find a new band and a chest of wonders, if you'll mind the pun. You'll understand that when you get to the song ;)
Glad you enjoyed it! As a long time Nightwish fan I would suggest you simply listen to the whole Wacken 2013 show and then work your way forward. Floor has also done quite a few cover songs during the pandemic so you might want to check them out as well. Beste Zangers 2019 is also another great option as mentioned in the previous comments. Please keep in mind there is no right or wrong way to experience this awesome band. I will remind you that prior to 2012, you will not see Floor Jansen as that was her beginning with Nightwish. I have been following the band since the release of their first album back in 1997. One of my favorite songs from that era is Beauty and the Beast however, since Floor joined Nightwish I find it hard to listen to any of the older material as it just isn't the same. It is a good way though for anyone to see how this band has evolved over the years. There a couple of good documentaries online that you can watch for the extra details that we as fans tend to forget about. Again, no rush. You have a very long list to catch up on and it's going to take some time but the key is to enjoy it and not rush through it. Thanks for the reaction and welcome to the world of Nightwish!

I was at the concert in Denver on May 16. WHAT A SHOW! For a smaller venue, it was great! I won't go into how great Nightwish is because that should be apparent through all the comments here. And if you go through Gabriel's list and do more Nightwish reactions, you're guaranteed an audience with the Nightwish Army. But beyond Nightwish, you should check out the live show of Epica's song Consign To Oblivion in Paris. That's a real rocker! And check out Epica's performance of Sancta Terra where Simone Simons and Floor Jansen are singing together over a live orchestra. Both of those are not to be missed! :) And maybe while you're at it, check out Kamelot's live version of The Haunting with Simone Simons in Norway. I'm not usually a big fan of male voices, but Roy has quite a voice as well! Their voices blend SO well together.
I discovered Nightwish 2 years ago during lock down working from home and TH-cam suggested to me their 2015 concert from Tampere in Finland. I prefer the version of Ghost Love Score from that concert but PLEASE just watch the whole video. It's mind blowing!

I hope you weren’t too overwhelmed with all the people coming in for this reaction. It is fascinating and a joy to see someone truly appreciative be exposed to these extraordinary musicians and singer. I’m sure people have shared much with you about this band and this singer, Floor Jansen. This show from Wacken 2013 has gone down as one of the most epic and iconic in the bands history. I don’t know how much you’ve been filled in on the bands history, but the singer, Floor Jansen, had only joined the band earlier in the middle of that tour. You would never guess by how well her and the band so beautifully gel together. And by how much love and adoration the fans at the show are heaping upon her. If you watch the full concert, near the beginning the bassist Marko, formally introduces the singer Floor to the audience who at that time didn’t know her. Nightwish had a falling out with their previous singer while in the middle of touring America. They reached out to Floor who was in Europe at the time. She flew out from Europe to America to join the band on tour and had to learn the entire setlist in 48 hours before performing with the band live for the first time ever. Hope to see you react to the live Wacken 2013 performance of their song “Romanticide” next. I know you will love it!

Well, I'll get in the line, to welcome you to the world of Nightwish. Nightwish Army will gladly join you on your tour down the rabbit hole (aka discovering all their wonderful music). I do hope you'll react to more from Nightwish. As per usual, keep Gabriels list at hand, he wont steer you wrong. The usual recommendations in a Nightwish-reaction comment, is the band Sabaton. I first of all prefer to see more Nightwish reaction from you, I truly enjoyed it (been a long while since I honestly enjoyed a 'reaction' video). Sabaton is a swedish metal band. Their drummer is married to Floor (vocalist you just was awed by). The classic recommendations are songs like "Bismarck", "Christmas Truce", "No bullets fly(the animated one!!), and "The Night Witches"(preferably the animated aswell). Also "important" to note when it comes to Sabaton (if you're gonna dive down *that* rabbit hole too) #1. their music is about our history: ww2, other "famous" events etc. #2. In most if not all of their videos, never, ever stop the video(important) until it stops by itself at the end (trust me, some of their videos aint over just bc the song seems to be over!) For Nightwish songs...geez, way too many to recommend, so again, I refer to Gabriel's list :D My personal favorites are "Storytime"(same concert as u just watched), and "I want my tears back" (prefer the show from buenes aires over the wacken-one mainly for the 'atmosphere' on that particular argentinian show) Then you have the juggernaut songs "The Poet & The Pendulum" (rly shouldnt listen/watch to that until u have much more Nightwish under your belt), and the looong song "Greatest Show on Earth" (bring popcorn, or coffee, its a long one) Looking forward to more reactions miss/mrs

About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland...
... Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

Following the success of Beste Zangers show, Floor performed a series of solo concerts in the Netherlands in early 2020 with songs from her entire career (After Forever, Revamp, Northward, Nightwish, Beste Zangers) following that the last and the largest concert, at AFAS Amsterdam, to be professionally recorded and broadcast online, with the support of a crowdfunding campaign. How was the concert?
@@cooperc4060 It was a great show :) with pyro, screens, lights. I was right in the group in front of the stage, about 25 meters away, so I could see everyone well. Open air, in a concrete parking lot in Romexpo, an audience of around 10k, and the weather was perfect. Many young people in the crowd, that made me happy. My ears rang the next day :) luckily I had a set of earplugs. I took some pictures, plus 2 short video recordings with my mobile phone, which turned out surprisingly well.

I was there for the New York show!
Every time I hear her ending notes I start crying and laughing at the same time. There is no one else who can match the Valkyrie Goddess of Symphonic Metal Floor Jansen as a vocalist. She has perfected her craft as no other Metal singer ever has.
Floor is truly a once-in-a-generation talent. She can sing anything…any song, any style, any genre…and make it her own. The band is very diverse…not all of their songs sound like this…in fact, no two of their songs really sound alike. Anything live by them, especially from 2013 until the present, while Floor’s been the singer, is can’t miss. But, from this same Wacken 2013 show, I’d recommend Song of Myself, Storytime, Everdream, and Romanticide. ☮️

Just in my country alone I know 20 female young singers in their 20's and 30's who are better than her, so nope, not a once-in-a-generation talent, your standards are just skewed because you're probably used to listening to garbage. She's great but not spectacular. 8/10 at best, but that's still better than all the 3/10's in the mainstream music industry.

Welcome to the greatest band on the planet. Six musical geniuses who see each other as family, who perform without ego. Tuomas, the keyboardist, composes about 95% of their music, and I consider him the greatest composer of my lifetime. His music is multi-layered, and he uses tracks recorded with the London Philharmonic that he triggers with his keyboards in concert, including vocal choir tracks. Each song is unique, but equally great. A typical statement from the Nightwish Army, who you have obviously met, to the question "your favorite Nightwish song?" - "The one to which I am currently listening." I promise you will never be disappointed in listening to any of their songs. Gabriel is our "official" General and he can lead you on the greatest musical journey of your life, if you are so willing. when they call Tuomas the Metal Mozart, it isn't hyperbole. My formative years were in the late 70's and 80's, and up until I found NW, I felt like Prince was the greatest song writer, arranger, composer in music history....Tuomas is right there with him. Combining metal with classical music (the symphonic part) can't be easy, and not only does he write great songs he knows exactly how to take advantage of everyone in the band's particular talents.

I've been listening to Nightwish since '97, and when I first heard her performance, uncontrollable tears poured down my face! It hit me hard because I've listened to them for decades, and to hear someone sing it with so much soul and emotion, overwhelmed my senses. It gave me so much nostalgia hearing an old, classic song being born again though her voice!🤘🏾❤
Greatest show I have ever seen in my life, when I saw them the first time a couple of months ago in NYC, at a much smaller venue than this lol. Floor's stage presence and voice are just spellbinding. She's the greatest active singer right now, imho. You should check out more from this show, but also a few others, live. They are all so good that they are even better live, which is a rarity. Truly amazing.

There are a few bands that I have seen that are similar in that they are better live, even when their studio stuff is amazing. I would put Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Genesis/Peter Gabriel, Grateful Dead, Santana and a few others in that category (each for different reasons). I also saw my first NW concert a few months ago, near Washington DC and it easily goes into my top 10 favorite concerts (out of well over 150).

Nightwish Army North Texas division reporting for duty. Welcome to the wonderful world of Floor Jansen and Nightwish. This is an amazing, unique, and diverse band, that is well worth exploring. This is just the tip of the iceberg. This show was in 2013 and was fire from beginning to end. This was song #13 of 15. There were over 80,000 in attendance. They did a limited North American tour in May. US shows are at considerably smaller venues. They are currently on tour in Europe now, and even with a couple of personnel changes since, are still putting on amazing shows at huge venues now. I am also from the United States, and I hesitated watching this band because how good can they be because I have never heard of them. One of the greatest bands I have ever heard, and currently the best there is from all I have heard. Floor Jansen is the lead singer, she is from the Netherlands, the band is from Finland. Floor's voice is perfection to me, and she can sing any style or genre as well as metal. Her nicknames from us her fans are : Queen of Metal or The Valkyrie Goddess. She was trained in opera and was a vocal coach, but has been fronting metal bands since she was 17 years old. She is 41 now, and she and Nightwish have never sounded better or stronger. I liked and subbed for your journey.

Hello and welcome to the phenomenal band that NW is! The band is Finnish. The leadwoman is Floor Jansen (Yahn-sen), Dutch, their 3rd and current singer. At the time of this concert she was only ten months with the band. End Sept 2012 she stepped in halfway the band's World Tour after the 2nd singer left the band. Floor had to learn the setlist in 48 hrs. Ghost Love Score was not on that list but she knew the song and loved it so they inserted it to it. She added the last high note to it and since then it became an enormous succes! The goosebumps are called "Floorgasms"😅This song is but the tip of a very, very high iceberg. Thats our Valkyrie Floor... she captures your eyes, then your ears, then your mind, and then she takes your soul... but you know what? She gives you your soul back in the end, incredibly enriched... and that's why we go into it again, and again, and again! BTW, no two songs by Nightwish are same, so if you maybe think you now know Nightwish think again... maybe after the first 100 or so songs... they are among us since 1996 so the is SOME library to choose from...
And they allways been best live, so going for live recordings from big events (like this Wacken 2013) is usually the best thing you can do... they have professional audio and video quality.

When I first heard Nightwish, many years ago, it was a pretty big emotional experience for me. I had not heard anything like it before, and mostly listened to what was on the radio in Iowa. So I was pretty oblivious music could even sound like this. Years later, I'm always looking for a new sound, and creativity. I listen to a wide variety, and it's broadened my mind, and perspective. Music is the sound of the soul.

I got to see them live back in Orlando, October 2012, Floor had just been called in to replace the former singer mid tour, and I got my tickets in the mail the exact day the announced the lineup change. I had to convince my wife(girlfriend at the time) to give the new singer a chance since I was very familiar with her earlier work and knew she'd knock it out of the park.
There are a lot of concerts I wish I'd gotten to see in my life, but this one I consider a privilege to get to witness this legend in the making before she blew up and started to wow the whole world. Nightwish is my favorite band and I will never forget that performance for the rest of my life.

At 6’1 and 170 pounds Floor is a smiling, singing, dancing, enchanting, stage commanding Valkyrie Goddess, and to me at least, a gift from above. Seeing the whole video of this concert, Especially the Floorgasm changed my life. It made me start listening to music again. @@JyngerSlapz The thing you haven't experienced yet is when Marko starts singing. He is the absolutely perfect match for Floor, with a deeper voice and longer beard 😂. (Just kidding about the beard.). The harmonies are breathtaking. The other two from the "Holy Trinity" (besides Ghost Love Score) are "The Poet & The Pendulum" and "The Greatest Show On Earth." I highly recommend the Tempere version of the latter. Both need a bit of background research to fully understand the incredible brilliance and meaning behind them. The first being a highly personal piece for Tuomas, and the latter being the history of our planet in approximately 18 minutes. The detail and passion in each of them is dripping, and even a grown old fart like me watches them through tear-filled eyes every single time. Get your feet wet on others before you go there, but there just isn't a song that isn't a thousand times better than anything else out there. I'll be around to accompany you on your quest.

Nightwish is a glorious rabbit hole of awesome, with world class song-writing, musicianship and arguably (or unarguably to most who've heard her enough😉) the best and most versatile female vocalist alive today (maybe ever), the Valkyrie Queen of metal herself Floor Jansen (pronounced Yansen). Floor is a classically trained soprano and has a vocal range of more than 3 octaves (D3 to F6+).
Floor is the third female vocalist that Nightwish have had (and my personal favourite), she was only with them on tour for 10 months at this point and officially joined the band in 2013, she is still with them today.
The other vocalists are -
Tarja Turunen - (1996-2005) - (Finland) - Very operatic focused vocals.
Anette Olzon - (2007-2012) - (Sweden) - More pop-centric vocals.
Floor Jansen - (2012-Present) - (Netherlands) - Extremely diverse vocals, from deep growls to full on opera.

Floor herself is Dutch and is another glorious goldmine of awesome as she has a lot of non-Nightwish related stuff (including 2 other bands, After Forever & ReVamp) that she has done that is all pretty amazing as well. She is also an absolutely lovely, funny, smart and grounded person (in fact all the band members are exceedingly down to earth individuals). She has her own channel here on TH-cam where she regularly posts covers of songs.
The band was formed in 1996 by lead songwriter/composer and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen.
The name of the genre they generally belong to is Symphonic Metal but their discography is EXTREMELY varied.
The "Symphonic" backing tracks of their music is composed in the majority by Tuomas and performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
This was the 13th song in this particular set, Floor is belting notes like that the entire set.
Nighwish are almost always better experienced with LIVE versions of their songs if at all possible.
Most new reactors are better off sticking with the Wacken 2013 set to begin with as it offers a taste of a lot of what Nightwish has to offer, they have multiple concerts though all of which are superb.
Some suggestions for more songs for you to continue your journey would be Storytime, Romanticide, Ever Dream, Ghost River, I Wish I had an Angel, Song of Myself, Dark Chest of Wonders, I Want My Tears Back and Amaranth all from Wacken 2013 (pronounced Vacken).
Saying that, anything from Wacken 2013 is golden really to start, there's a reason why that set is pretty legendary at this point, 82,000 people were in attendance.
Beware of some messed up slowed down versions of the Wacken 2013 songs as they can take the energy right out of the performances, just check the comments on them and I'm sure someone will mention if it's a slowed down version.
Your choice obviously but I'd avoid Poet and the Pendulum and The Greatest Show on Earth for now until you are more familiar with the band and it's history, they will make a lot more sense and be more enjoyable for you that way.

Ok Jynger - you've come to two paths in the woods. Reading the comments below, they will encourage you to take the Nightwish path, only you just reacted to penultimate live performance ever recorded though I do enjoy their version of Ever Dream from the same Wacken show. Yes, not sure at the moment where you're located but they did a US tour earlier this year. An interesting note in regards to Floor joining the band - that happened in the Fall of 2012 where they fired their then singer Annette mid-tour, called Floor and asked her to learn the 17 song setlist in 48 hours while she flew from Europe to join them. Her day job. She wowed the 80K+ Wacken attendees this night which really heightens the energy in the room.
I, on the other hand, would encourage you to take the Floor solo project path which really began in 2019 with her inclusion on a show called Beste' Zangers where she sang songs in several languages, from Operettic (Vilja Lied) to stage musical (Phantom of the Opera - duet) to pop (Solo of Shallow). In 2021 she did a live show in Amsterdam with songs like Storm in a Glass (rock) and Slow Love Slow (jazzy). Then this year she's followed it up with two singles from her up coming 2023 album, Fire (th-cam.com/video/rqwHMgo_DdQ/w-d-xo.html) and Storm (th-cam.com/video/8dAP8Mjgh_E/w-d-xo.html) - both of these links are live versions which I prefer over the official music videos - she is one whose voice needs no production to make it better. So we'll see the direction you'll try. I don't think you'll be disappointed with either since she is a master of her instrument and never fails to impress.

Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy. Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 5 octaves (Eb2 to F5)
She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot.
Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016.
From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour. On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020.
This was recorded at the 2013 Wacken ( pronounced Vahken) Open Air festival in Germany in front of an audience of 82,000 people. The fiery bull head is the symbol of the festival.

since she performed this song way back in 2013 Floor has always refferred to that moment as "The Note" and she has actually gone on record to say that shes been sick as a dog at a concert once and when she hit that note she felt significantly more energy and 100% better. in many ways this song is *her* song.

I bet I’ve watched that video at least 40-50 times and get emotional every time. There is just something about her voice and this band that just seems to pull emotions out of you no matter what song it is. Not many bands and singers have the ability to do that. Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range, versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a spinto soprano with a range of around four octaves. Floor joined her first band (After Forever) at the very young age of 16. She also attended the Rock Academie in the Netherlands and studied opera and musical theater after that. Floor has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several Master vocal coaches (She is also a certified Master vocal coach). Floor can sing in multiple languages, styles and genres. She also speaks 5 languages. Floor often refers to herself as a vocal nerd. This Valkyrie goddess is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to Nightwish. The Band hired her in 2012 as a temporary replacement for their previous vocalist Anette Olson (2nd vocalist hired after the original Tarja) to finish out the North American tour. Gabriel, as you are fully aware, has provided essentially a foolproof way to enjoy Nightwish, and each song on his list is so different and yet so epic and amazing. They're really worth your time as you will find a new band and a chest of wonders, if you'll mind the pun. You'll understand that when you get to the song ;)

Glad you enjoyed it! As a long time Nightwish fan I would suggest you simply listen to the whole Wacken 2013 show and then work your way forward. Floor has also done quite a few cover songs during the pandemic so you might want to check them out as well. Beste Zangers 2019 is also another great option as mentioned in the previous comments. Please keep in mind there is no right or wrong way to experience this awesome band. I will remind you that prior to 2012, you will not see Floor Jansen as that was her beginning with Nightwish. I have been following the band since the release of their first album back in 1997. One of my favorite songs from that era is Beauty and the Beast however, since Floor joined Nightwish I find it hard to listen to any of the older material as it just isn't the same. It is a good way though for anyone to see how this band has evolved over the years. There a couple of good documentaries online that you can watch for the extra details that we as fans tend to forget about. Again, no rush. You have a very long list to catch up on and it's going to take some time but the key is to enjoy it and not rush through it. Thanks for the reaction and welcome to the world of Nightwish!

I was at the concert in Denver on May 16. WHAT A SHOW! For a smaller venue, it was great! I won't go into how great Nightwish is because that should be apparent through all the comments here. And if you go through Gabriel's list and do more Nightwish reactions, you're guaranteed an audience with the Nightwish Army. But beyond Nightwish, you should check out the live show of Epica's song Consign To Oblivion in Paris. That's a real rocker! And check out Epica's performance of Sancta Terra where Simone Simons and Floor Jansen are singing together over a live orchestra. Both of those are not to be missed! :) And maybe while you're at it, check out Kamelot's live version of The Haunting with Simone Simons in Norway. I'm not usually a big fan of male voices, but Roy has quite a voice as well! Their voices blend SO well together.

I discovered Nightwish 2 years ago during lock down working from home and TH-cam suggested to me their 2015 concert from Tampere in Finland. I prefer the version of Ghost Love Score from that concert but PLEASE just watch the whole video. It's mind blowing!

It is fascinating and a joy to see someone truly appreciative be exposed to these extraordinary musicians and singer.
I’m sure people have shared much with you about this band and this singer, Floor Jansen.
This show from Wacken 2013 has gone down as one of the most epic and iconic in the bands history.
I don’t know how much you’ve been filled in on the bands history, but the singer, Floor Jansen, had only joined the band earlier in the middle of that tour.
You would never guess by how well her and the band so beautifully gel together.
And by how much love and adoration the fans at the show are heaping upon her.
If you watch the full concert, near the beginning the bassist Marko, formally introduces the singer Floor to the audience who at that time didn’t know her.
Nightwish had a falling out with their previous singer while in the middle of touring America.
They reached out to Floor who was in Europe at the time.
She flew out from Europe to America to join the band on tour and had to learn the entire setlist in 48 hours before performing with the band live for the first time ever.

Well, I'll get in the line, to welcome you to the world of Nightwish. Nightwish Army will gladly join you on your tour down the rabbit hole (aka discovering all their wonderful music).
I do hope you'll react to more from Nightwish. As per usual, keep Gabriels list at hand, he wont steer you wrong.
The usual recommendations in a Nightwish-reaction comment, is the band Sabaton. I first of all prefer to see more Nightwish reaction from you, I truly enjoyed it (been a long while since I honestly enjoyed a 'reaction' video). Sabaton is a swedish metal band. Their drummer is married to Floor (vocalist you just was awed by).
The classic recommendations are songs like "Bismarck", "Christmas Truce", "No bullets fly(the animated one!!), and "The Night Witches"(preferably the animated aswell).
Also "important" to note when it comes to Sabaton (if you're gonna dive down *that* rabbit hole too) #1. their music is about our history: ww2, other "famous" events etc. #2. In most if not all of their videos, never, ever stop the video(important) until it stops by itself at the end (trust me, some of their videos aint over just bc the song seems to be over!)
For Nightwish songs...geez, way too many to recommend, so again, I refer to Gabriel's list :D My personal favorites are "Storytime"(same concert as u just watched), and "I want my tears back" (prefer the show from buenes aires over the wacken-one mainly for the 'atmosphere' on that particular argentinian show)
Then you have the juggernaut songs "The Poet & The Pendulum" (rly shouldnt listen/watch to that until u have much more Nightwish under your belt), and the looong song "Greatest Show on Earth" (bring popcorn, or coffee, its a long one)
