@@rog2224 It's funny...but I feel the same way....I only knew her from reactions , but I could always feel her passion for the music... and I miss her too.....
Hello Missy MacQuarrie ! Nightwish fans here, your reaction just appeared on our radar.. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing in 2013 at Wacken Open Air festival, in front of a 82k+ audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra, London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. As a vocal coach, you understood very well what happened on that stage, appreciating all the key elements of a Nightwish show: the intricate classical-structured composition, the high level of musicianship of all band members, the stellar vocals and charisma of Floor Jansen, our Dutch metal queen. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol " Hope you'll continue this journey with us, so I'll drop here a list of songs with the current lineup of the band you may like: "Romanticide" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) th-cam.com/video/zz_7OCCQlXs/w-d-xo.html "Storytime" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) th-cam.com/video/pvkYwOJZONU/w-d-xo.html "Ever Dream" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) th-cam.com/video/1Xi4n8dJcF8/w-d-xo.html "Song Of Myself" live at Wacken 2013 (dark/metal) th-cam.com/video/lQu5QjidHWg/w-d-xo.html "Dead Boy's Poem" - live Buenos Aires 2018 (soulful ballad) th-cam.com/video/S8E3L7ggLMM/w-d-xo.html "Ghost River" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) th-cam.com/video/05eitd-EA6I/w-d-xo.html "My Walden" live at Wembley 2015 (celtic / folk) th-cam.com/video/knqeI807ZlY/w-d-xo.html "Sleeping Sun" live at Tampere 2015 (ballad) th-cam.com/video/rsotlzr9wNw/w-d-xo.html "Stargazer" live at Tampere 2015 (operatic vocals / metal) th-cam.com/video/NhEuAPYm_Ug/w-d-xo.html "Slaying The Dreamer" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) th-cam.com/video/wA44tjaP5n0/w-d-xo.html "I Want My Tears Back" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (celtic / folk vibe) th-cam.com/video/TBOdgxjb0kM/w-d-xo.html "Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean" live In Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) th-cam.com/video/t26r_vAYQ0Q/w-d-xo.html "Weak Fantasy" live at Tampere 2015 (dark metal) th-cam.com/video/AN239Pbqbjo/w-d-xo.html "7 Days To The Wolves" live at Wembley 2015 (dark metal) th-cam.com/video/XvsfwAPbWXc/w-d-xo.html And if you want to hear Floor growling :) then try "Yours Is An Empty Hope" live at Mexico City in 2015 th-cam.com/video/DuwY1d-KIss/w-d-xo.html Last but not the least - they just released their 9th studio album on April 10th named "Human :||: Nature" - just take a peek to their official playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLihZ3gi5Yvzc0pfH2cbNKUUX8o3pb8eVg.html You can also react to Floor Jansen "tapping" other musical genres in Beste Zangers 2019 (TV show from Netherlands) here is a playlist made by Floor herself (start listen it in reverse order..): th-cam.com/play/PL8iSYWeQhlimgUnWw1FDdiJN0msPzqpLo.html To understand better the context of this show you should visit also Jenniezelf's YT channel (En subtitled materials): th-cam.com/users/jenniezelf For entire episodes of the show with En translation, you should check Denise Hofs's DM channel: www.dailymotion.com/xpinkeu/videos Thank you! Nice reaction... Believe me, after 30 songs you still will be saying "I was not expecting this from her", same for the band genres, styles, sounds, compositions, etc... Promise you, this song is not even 5% of the Iceberg... To see a massive singer she is, maybe you could take a look at "How's the Heart" acoustic from planet rock... Just she, troy and an acoustic guitar... And many jaws dropped...Probably Gabriel will send you a list of songs with instruction, believe me, it's a nice way to know Nightwish and Floor... All there has a reason to be and will add a lot to your experience... As a vocal coach, Floor can provide lessons and more lessons to your students of how to do this or that... From growl to opera... In 5 languages and 30 styles... And I already said too much for a comment... Lol... Sorry, we are passionate about Nightwish... By the way, the bassist Marco don't stay behind Floor, he is a massive singer too...
That was from the Wacken 2013 live set. That show is one of those legendary performances where everything goes right. Everyone was at their best that night. I would recommend watching the entire concert. But if you need only one to do next. Maybe try Storytime or Ghost River. Nightwish will never stop entertaining you. The song writing from Tuomas is out of this world. Marco, the bass player, has an amazing voice also. Enjoy this rabbit hole if you dare!
Nightwish is from Finland, but Floor Jansen, the vocalist, is from the Netherlands. She can sing anything...literally. The band is actually pretty diverse as far as style/sound and she kills it every time. From this same Wacken 2013 show I’d recommend Song of Myself, Romanticide, Storytime, Everdream, and I Want My Tears Back.
" She can sing anything...literally" Note: She can sing anything better than almost anybody! Early one " this is more of a head voice" Me thinks " just you wait, toots!"There have singers that belt, operatic, folk sing, and a few others. They just happen to be the same person. Oh BTW. Marko ( the bass player) is no slouch vocally either. And wait til you get to later stuff with Troy singing as well.
You want to see her sing something edgy? Try Romanticide or with full on false folds and growling ‘ Yours is an empty hope’. I also recommend Storytime and Everdream.
You have just witnessed the Goddess of Metal, Floor Jansen. It looks like there is nothing she can't do with her voice. Sometimes she's a siren but even growling is not impossible for her. And the stage presence? Unbelievable, everybody falls in love with her, when she enters the stage...
Hi Missy MacQuarrie, welcome to Symphonic Metal and the Dutch powerhouse vocalist Floor Jansen. Nightwish are HUGE, they originate from Finland, have 9 studio albums, they sell out Stadiums and Arenas all over the world, now they seem to be becoming more popular in the USA thanks to social media 😁 We the fans (The Nightwish Army) are very passionate about Nightwish, welcome aboard, I hope you listen to a lot more from Nightwish, enjoy the journey 😁 Gabriel will be along shortly with band info and the links to a list of awesome Nightwish performances
scott b. - we know who you are... no denying... we know what you did last night... (the same what we all did... click as soon as we saw a new Nightwish reaction)....
Welcome to the magical world of the Nightwish ! Nightwish has been using the London Philharmonic Orchestra or part of it in the background with their studio albums since 2004. Also two different choirs (adults, children) as needed. In live concerts, they play it from the backing tape and perform themselves on top of it. Everything that happens on stage is for telling a story. Fireworks, pyrotechnics, lights, led panels, background music (philharmonic orchestra) and music played by each band member, vocals ... And each song has its own story. And because every story is different, that’s why Nightwish sounds different in every song and within the song there are variations depending on the course of the story. The man behind Nightwish's music is Tuomas Holopainen, a keyboard player. He makes about 95% of their music and practically almost all the lyrics. He has a strong background in classical and jazz music since childhood. Prior to founding Nightwish, he played piano, clarinet and tenor saxophone. At Nightwish, he’s only played keyboards so far, but he has three of them! In this video, it was hard to see them when they were hidden behind the "Sibelius Monument." We call him by the nickname "Metal Mozart". If you continue with Nightwish music, you will understand the reason for that. Floor Jansen studied in a Dutch Rock Academy for 4 years (1999- ) and then entered the Conservatorium Tilburg for 1 year in Music Theatre, and then 1 more year of Opera. As a young woman, she has also played guitar, piano and flute. But in her own words, no longer can, because she has not practiced playing for years. Floor can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. So far, in our understanding, she’s the only woman who can slide from opera style straight to growling style - within a word!
Nightwish is a Finnish band and here are the members currently: - Tuomas Holopainen - Keyboards & main composer/arranger - Finnish - Floor Jansen - Main Vocals - Dutch - Marco Hietala - Bass & Vocals - Finnish - Emppu Vuorinen - Guitarist - Finnish - Kai Hahto - Drums - Finnish (In the video you just watched it was still Jukka Nevalainen, he left as the drummer in 2014 and is now with the band's management team) - Troy Donockley - Uilleann pipes, tin whistle, vocals, guitar, keyboards, bouzouki, etc. - English The backing tracks are recorded with the London Philarmonic full orchestra and choir. They had 2 previous singers Tarja Turunen 1996-2005 and Anette Olzon 2007-2012. Best method for reacting to Nightwish that I figured from watching reactors and discovering them recently and exploring their catalog myself: Keep the particularly long and complex songs listed below, if you have not watched them already, for after you have seen all the more standard ones from the 4 live shows mentioned in the numbered list: - Ghost Love Score (Wacken) 10 minutes - The Poet and the Pendulum (Wembley) 14 minutes >>> Doing some research on the background story for this song is very important to be able to appreciate the meaning of the lyrics. - Greatest Show on Earth (Tampere) 21 minutes 1- Just do all the Wacken 2013 songs, they are all great. 2- Then the Wembley 2015 ones that are not part of the Wacken show. 3- Then the remaining songs from Tampere 2015 that were not in the previous 2 shows mentioned. 4- Then the older songs from Buenos Aires 2018 that were not in the previous 3 shows mentioned. 5- To see what they can do with a cover and if you like Marco's singing, watch their interpretation of Pink Floyd's High Hopes. 6- Then you can explore Floor's versatility with her band ReVamp's live performances of the songs Disdain at Graspop and Wild Card at Bloodstock. 7- And finally go in the deep end of the Floor talent pool by reacting to her performances on Beste Zangers in the order the episodes aired. For the first 4 steps, you can alternate between shows, but I would recommend to still only take songs that are not performed in the previous shows mentioned, as they are ordered in audio quality from best to worst. From watching a lot of reactions, in my opinion this is the most efficient order to discover the rabbit hole that is Nightwish and Floor Jansen. That should keep you busy for a while. 😀
I really liked your reaction 🤘😁🤘 Ghost Love Score is amazing masterpiece of music. But there is soooo much more to see and hear from Nightwish. Just wait when Marko (bass player) joins Floor singing 🤩 I'll bet that Gabriel will be here soon enough to give you all info you want 😁 He is awesome, our dear Nightwish general. Greetings from Finnish NW fan from Norway. Stay safe 😊
Welcome to the world of Nightwish. What you've heard here is just the tip of what this band can do. Try other songs, too. There were 82,000 people there. Greetings from the Netherlands.
The Jinger crew often send people this way. This song is the classic taster. So, you've had a taste. You know what you expect now? It's not that Oh and then there's Marko.....
Congrats. You have just experienced a Floorgasm! Welcome to the party. 83k in crowd. This Floor's favorite song. One suggestion...listen to this one with headphones. Down the rabbit hole you go!
..."I'm not used to hearing this style of voice and this style of music." Well, you have a long and constantly evolving list of music to ge through here. Floor will keep you guessing, Marko (the bassist) sings solo and duets with Floor, Troy (Multi-talented musician and now singer). This band keeps evolving. They are truly brilliant. This is the song that gets most people hooked and wanting more. Your journey has just begun.
when it comes to versatility, you cannot compare floor to other singers, it's actually floor, who is the scale any other singer is measured on glad i subbed on the jinjer video, cause i knew GLS was following earlier or later, so i will join you on your unavoidable nightwish journey, enjoy the ride :)
Wonderful reaction, looking forward to more Nightwish and Floor reactions if you're amenable. I would recommend some of their shorter songs between the epic pieces. Enjoy the ride! P.S. I'd start with Floor's performance of Shallow on Beste Zangers where she blows away Lady Gaga's version.
An still haven't seen nothing yet. Floor master at many styles. Then you also have the other singers too. Can't wait to see what you think of Marco and Troy. Then a little nightwish nostalgia with Annette and Tarja. You have taken your first step on a long long musical path.
I always look for new reactions TO NW VERY NICE i know i have heard this performance over 200 times It never grows old and dare i say one of the best pieces ever written It has EVERYTHING
Every Nightwish song is a unique experience, you never know what's coming next. The bass player Marko has a wonderful voice as well, so if you decide to go on the Nightwish tour you're in for a treat.🤩
Welcome to the wonderful world of Floor Jansen & Nightwish, PS you ain't seen nothing yet sya with the same show Wacken 2013, these two should blow your socks off, "Romanticide & Storytime" , Nightwish is one of a kind
Great reaction I've been waiting for you to finally get to this, well done! 👍I'm just gonna say you stepped in it deep LOL! The army will be by soon and completely get you all the information you can want 😁 Nightwish can be VERY addicting! I hope you continue this journey because it will bring you many smiles 😁 Stay safe and greetings from Florida 🤘🤘🤘🤘
@@morethanjustavocalcoach Nightwish has been around for a long time, they formed in 1996 your going to get a s#@t load of requests lol! The lead singer is Floor Jansen (pronounced Yansen) she is Dutch and the band is from Finland. She has unbelievable range. There are songs where she goes completely opera and songs where she growls. Prepare to be mesmerised.
@@sleeepwalk Well, it won't be long before she gets a taste of Marko. Has his range been documented? I know he went really high with Phantom of the Opera, just curious, cheers 👍
@@danmcneal9135 I didn't find any specialized source... But we have this... th-cam.com/video/wAibT9yhE0A/w-d-xo.html - Not a great source because is Anette and him in a mix...
Congrats on your first Nightwish experience. It made me subscribe right away! I see Gabriel Bardac already found your reaction also, so now you know perfectly how to get into the Nightwish rabbit hole. 😉 Don't be surprised how fast the number of subscriptions to your channel might increase when continuing to do Nightwish reactions. There's so much more to discover about the dutch 'Valkyrie'. She's so versatile, including growling! Enjoy!
I love that she went to pause it right at the outro chorus and right as Floor raised her hand she sat back and enjoyed it. That part is so mesmerizing.
Hey, nice video, Floor Jansen is also a classically trained and a professional voice coach as well, and the pipes are just decorative but a couple of them maybe used for pyrotechnics effects and he has 3 korg keyboards behind the pipes, thanks 😊if you are interested she just posted a cover video of the movie Frozen song let it go, awesome thanks 😊 yesterday.
NIghtwish army Belgium checking in. Thanks for the react. You have just discovered Floor Jansen, our Queen, the most powerfull and technically perfect female voice alive on this planet. Floor studied rock academy and went on to be clasically trained in opera and musical theathre in conservatory in the Netherlands. She has been singing for two decades. Now try Nightwish Shoemaker, The Greatest Show on Earth, Poet and the Pendulum and check out Floors solo gigs in Beste Zangers, especially Vilja Lied and Phantom of the opera, and for fun and giggles, her recent cover of let it Go from Frozen.
Floor Jansen : The Valkyrie Goddess of Metal. Marko: The Viking Emmpu :The Electric Hobbit Jukka : The Pirate Tuomas : The Metal Mozart Troy :The Bard ( plays only in certain songs )
Seeing these newest, first time NW reactions NEVER, EVER gets old !! And, it's always good to see the Nightwish army still paying attention to the latest reactions from music educators and musicians alike as they sample for the first time Floor J. and the group (O: I really don't have to mention that she JUST started here 'master class' series here on the 'tube which I watched today (11-21-2020) ((O:
Enjoy the overwhelming amazing vocals, and most likely the increase in subscribers ..... As a member of the Nightwish Army I too look forward to you seeing the true power of our beloved Valkyrie!!
Woo hoo!! Another member in from Canada! One of the most iconic quotes about Floor "Most singers sing what they can in their genre. Floor sings what she wants." Themost truthful statement you will ever hear. Also, crowd control level Master. 82,000 people eating out of the palm of her hand.
You have to understand this ..... that's Floor. She can sing everything in all styles. She's the Metal Queen. When you teach people, you take Floor, Dio, Geoff Tate (Queensryche), Noora (Battle Beast) and Yannis (Beast Of Black) as a example, when you teach. And one thing .... fix the sound on the output. Sounds like an old radio from the 60's :)
Just "The Queen" she said it herself for the first time in "Let it go" -And it looks like i'm the Queen. th-cam.com/video/18s6ZdvAfQk/w-d-xo.html i think i never had trusted the lyrics in a Disney song more than that line.
Nice reaction Missy... that’s our Dutch Valkyrie, Floor Jansen, welcome to the world of Nightwish.. more songs will follow, a lot more 🤘🏻😁🤘🏻 some will have a little edgy tone(with a small hidden surprise from Floor).. like, Yours is an empty hope(the Wembley show).. and others will make you wanna cry, Poet and the pendulum, that’s the world of Nightwish.. that’s what makes them the greatest of all time 🤘🏻😁🤘🏻
Nightwish's compositions are experiences. Every song is a composition with deep lyrics and phenomenal execution by singers (3!!) and musicians - plus the effects. They tell stories and documentaries on stage like no other band. If you are a music lover or nerd - this is the real thing. And take it easy - you simply cannot put Floor or any of the others into a box saying classic, metal or anything else - because they are not. They have their own Nightwish box, and later on in your journey into the Nightwish Universe, you will get what I mean - they are a bit of everything including finding the new ways in music. You will enjoy these 6 phenomenal musicians, like every other music nerd does. A big Welcome to the Nightwish Universe from Nightwish Army Denmark 🇩🇰 👍 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I hope you were ready for the Nightwish Army because you've summoned us! I hope to see you continue down the Nightwish path and I look forward to it if you do. One of my favorites I'd like to see reacted to would be Storytime. Great reaction also, I seem to have found another person I will turn my notifications on for :) I'm off to check out more of your videos.
Love to see the vocal coaches react to Floor for the first time. And it's always fun to see them judge her on this one song. They ALL love her ability, agility and technicality; I can't imagine someone who knows singing would not. But as we all know, this is - while broad - such a small sample of Floor's incredibleness. (And yeah, I don't care if that's not a word; it is now.) Thank you Missy for doing this and hopefully you'll do more Nightwish with Floor. You'll get tons of suggestions and while I'm nobody important, I can promise you that this is a fantastic journey you could take, and the Army will be an excellent guide. Enjoyed your reaction. Subbing for more.
Welcome to the wonderful world of symphonic metal and Nightwish. This is one of the most epic live performances ever. The band is from Finland and the singer is a Dutch singer/songwriter and vocal coach Floor Jansen. Glad you liked and greetings from Finland! ⛄
Believe it or not, you have only heard less than half of the kinds of singing that Floor can do. She can sing delicately, she can get all breathy, she can do heavy metal growling, you name it. For most people the next song to try would be one called Romanticide from the same live show: th-cam.com/video/zz_7OCCQlXs/w-d-xo.html But if you want top try something different from your singing coach point of view, Marco (the bass player) also has a wonderful voice that so often ends up playing second fiddle to Floor, but they sometimes let him take center stage vocally too. I would recommend either The Islander: th-cam.com/video/Zo8ncK_5kzc/w-d-xo.html or High Hopes (a Pink Floyd cover): th-cam.com/video/4oEDnVeYYyM/w-d-xo.html, both of which are fantastic!
What is always interesting about Floor's voice is how she consistently hits the top of her notes then slides down rather than the inverse. You can see from her breathing technique she is always setting up for where she wants to go next way before she needs to go there and her holds are amazing. This song shows her vocal versatility from her natural head voice soprano right through to her 'rock chick' vocal edge where she digs deep into her diaphragm to punch out some killing sounds. This woman can hit up to G5 notes at will and flick between singing styles as if it were the most natural thing it the world. Stunning singing talent backed by one of the tightest bands you can imagine. The drummer in particular is extraordinarily good. When all is said and done you will succeed as a singer if you perfect even a quarter of what Floor shows you what can be done.
The one thing you can expect from Nightwish is the unexpected. Floor did four years at the Dutch rock academie, then a further two years at the conservatory studying classical singing and music theater. All that while being the lead singer in After Forever. She's a self confessed vocal technique nerd with lungs of a deep sea diver. If you want to hear her sing straight opera there's a video of her singing "O mio babbino caro" And another of her, together with Simone Simon (Another great singer from the band Epica) singing "Stabat mater dolorosa" I think your next Nightwish reaction should be Storytime from the same show.
Nightwish ✔️ Floor ✔️ Epicness ✔️ your necklace ✔️ tickeld ✔️..great reaction ..keep them coming...👍 Give Opeth - Ghost of Perdition....🤘🔥🤘🔥 a whirl .... anyways be safe and keep healthy ♥️🧡🖤.
You should definitely check out more of this superb band, there are so many more sings which show Floor’s total range from this to growling and more metal, watch and enjoy
Welcome to your first stop of a probably long, surprising always awesome Nightwish journey. This band is from Finland. Tuomas is the keyboarder, Songwriter, composer. Marco is playing the bass and doing also the vocals. He is very versatile and an awesome singer as well. You might watch „The Islander“ from Tampere to experience this. Emppu is playing the guitar. He can shred it but he always does exactly that much, that is required by the song. Kai (also Wintersun) is now at the drums and replaced the original drummer Jukka (whom you saw here) who had stop playing the drums due to health issues. But he still is with the band. Julka was a perfect drummer and showman, Kai is a perfect drummer and a machine and beast at the drums. Then there is Troy, a multi instrumentalist from England who in older performances supported the band at some tracks but became luckily a full member of the band after this tour. He‘s a great singer as well. Last but not least there is Floor, the Dutch singer. She is the bands third singer after Tarja (operatic) and Annett from Sweden (pop/rock). She can sing really everything from opera over pop/ rock to growls This gig was at Wacken. Wacken is THE metal festival worldwide. Nightwish were one of the headliners in 2013. It is in the north of Germany in a rural area. Therefore the bullhead with flames is the Wacken symbol. There are more than 80.000 metalheads having a big party each year. Here are some suggestions for your next stops: -> There are only great songs from Wacken: „Story Time“ and "Ever Dream" are catchy in a very positive way. "Song of Myself" starts catchy and ends with everyone headbanging. "Romanticide", "Last Ride of the Day" and "Ghostriver" are the heavier ones. -> "Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean" (Buenos Aires) will give you a metal and power blast: Maximum speed and Marco (the singing bass player) becomes Hannibal Lecter ;-) -> "Yours an Empty Hope" from Wembley (have a good look!! at the growls. You'll be surprised.) -> „Dead Boys Poem“ from Buenos Aires (so amazing and emotional) -> „Weak Fantasy“ (Tampere): Kai the beastat the drums, Troy joins in, great duets with Floor and Marco, … -> Elvenjig / Elvenpath (Buenos Aires): Awesome intro and it continues on that level -> "The greatest Show on Earth" (Tampere) is one of the two most epic songs. The title is not about the gig, but about the topic of the song: The evolution of mankind. -> "The Poet and the Pendulum“ (Wembley) is my personal absolute masterpiece of Nightwish. Be sure to know the background of this song ahead (short version see below *) ***** From the new album there are for obvious reasons no live sessions so far. For all songs there are lyric videos, except for „Noise". But maybe you'll give some songs a try as well. It's an awesome album. Definitely not an "easy" one with a lot of really unique songs, different from what is "typical" for Nightwish. Floor said that she was really challenged to sing the songs that Tuomas wrote for her. Knowing her abilities, you can imagine that they are "special“. It‘s a good idea to hear the album in the given order, but nevertheless here are some of my options to some of the songs. -->"Noise" is probably the most "typical" song and the only one with "real video". The video is great as the song itself --> "Tribal" is the heaviest one and Kai, the drummer, had to change his normal setup to be able to play it. --> "Shoemaker" (about Eugene Shoemaker) is such a heavenly and epic song with the possible epic ending. -> „Pan“ is just an amazing ride. When it starts you for a moment think you‘re listening to Floors husbands band „Sabaton“. In the song you‘ll be reminded to „Tribal“ and „Noise“. -> Procession“ a rather calm song with so amazing vocals by Floor --> "Harvest" is so different with Troy singing, that you will wonder if you're listening to Nightwish. -> „Endlessness“ is Marcos song and shows his great voice. --> "Music", „How's the Heart", ... are really cool songs as well. Of course. The album challenged Floor as singer, which is not easy to do, as she is one of the best and most versatile singers in the world. ***** If you'd like to Explore Floor on her own: Beste Zangers Just in case (which I can really recommend) you're going to do "Beste Zangers" make sure you take the clips posted by "jenniezelf" on TH-cam as she has also included the talking / interviews before and after with english subtitles. The concept of the show is, that on one day all singers sing a song for one of them. It's a song that is by that singer or a song that means a lot for him / her. So it is very interesting to get to know the story behind each song. And it will help to understand the reactions of the other singers. Floor is singing there in German, Dutch, Spanis and English. Her "Phanom of the Opera" duet with Henk Poort is legendary. ***** * Backstory for „Poet and the Pendulum“ Tuomas (the keyboarder and songwriter) was in depression after the split from their first singer Tarja. He was in the position to either commit suicide in real real life or to write a song about it and die within that song. Luckily he choose the latter option. He is the poet, "killed" by the pendulum. And afterwards there is darkness, silence and just a fading heartbeat. It gives me a shiver every time. As this song is so emotional for him all the others have an eye on him. He even had his the vocals turned off in his in ears. One detail showing the ingenuity of Tuoams: Exactly three minutes after the words "Now I have only three minutes and counting" he is "killed" by the pendulum. And then everything becomes dark and there is just this fading heartbeat of the dying poet. Here is the open letter Tuomas / the band wrote towards Tarja: nightwish.fandom.com/wiki/Open_Letter_to_Tarja_Turunen And here is her response: nightwish.fandom.com/wiki/Open_Letter_from_Tarja_Turunen From what I have heard, her husband/manager was (from the bands point of view) the core of the problem. There is one song addressing him: "Master Passion Greed" They never played it live and will never do so. It is maybe their heaviest song, but for sure the most angry one. You should definitely listen to it. Greetz from a German-Dutch concert photographer
I've only recently found nightwish, and really enjoy Floors vocals, the "symphonic rock" style and the bands amazing stage presence.... Am I a young long haired rocker... Steeped in tattoos... No, I'm a 59 year old man from middle England.... Never too old to find good music....
I went to this concert in 2013 in anticipation of Annette the previous singer. The tickets for Wacken must be ordered more than 1 year in advance. Then 10 months before the break came with Annette, remember Floor was only 10 months in the band as a replacement to end this tour. When I heard in the media that Tuomas asked Floor, I knew it was going to be an unforgettable experience, I knew Floor from her previous bands After Forever and Revamp, I knew that she was a perfect match for Nightwish, she made each of the songs her own. Was in Wacken again in 2018 and for this year I had a ticket for the Nightwish concert in Frankfurt, which was postponed due to Covid 19.
Exact same experience for the 2013 show, which turned out to be epic even for Wacken! Will be using my 2020 tix next year, I hope. Also knew Floor from Arjen's projects.
Wonderful react Missy, and welcome to Nightwish. You are correct, Floor Jansen is classically trained. She is a graduate of the Dutch National Conservatory of Music, in the Netherlands. However, she's fronted very successful metal bands since she was 16, all while completing her education. How cool is that for someone so young?
Thank you for reacting to Nightwish. They are some amazing musicians, and Floor is the "Swiss Army Knife" of vocals. She can sing using Operatic delivery, she can belt with the best of them, and she can also sing in multiple languages. For some added content, check Beste Zangers 2019, which is a Dutch TV show featuring some pretty amazing singers, including Floor. Again, thank you for this reaction.
These fans won't steer you wrong. Any suggestion you see more than 4 or 5 times in your comments is a solid recommendation. Nightwish has some of the most dedicated fans on Earth. Just enjoy the ride, and any reactions you do will have guaranteed views. The Nightwish Army loves vocal coach reactions.
Thanks for the reaction :) Pro tip.... Use headphones while reacting. The audio isn't too clear otherwise, and can be very off-putting to viewers. Also, this music is so detailed that you might miss something special without the head phones. I look forward to more Nightwish videos.

Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer.
So be prepared. lol "

And *Yours Is An Empty Hope* Wembley, Whit Little Floor Suprise 4 U. Stay safe.
Forget doing those songs just do the whole concert
You want to see her sing something edgy? Try Romanticide or with full on false folds and growling ‘ Yours is an empty hope’. I also recommend Storytime and Everdream.
oh yes! And so much more :)
💕💕💕
I recorded Romanticide today 🤘🤘
@@morethanjustavocalcoach I also think you would really like Ever Dream and Storytime, probably more than the heavier songs.
@@morethanjustavocalcoach If you do Yours is an Empty Hope take note of the growling on the chorus: it's HER, not him.
What lyrical style does Floor sing?
Floor: Yes!!!
You have just witnessed the Goddess of Metal, Floor Jansen. It looks like there is nothing she can't do with her voice. Sometimes she's a siren but even growling is not impossible for her. And the stage presence? Unbelievable, everybody falls in love with her, when she enters the stage...

She's the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal, also love your pendant
Oh, dear... so much to come. Hi, from Finland!
Nightwish is a Finnish band and here are the members currently:
- Tuomas Holopainen - Keyboards & main composer/arranger - Finnish
- Floor Jansen - Main Vocals - Dutch
- Marco Hietala - Bass & Vocals - Finnish
- Emppu Vuorinen - Guitarist - Finnish
- Kai Hahto - Drums - Finnish (In the video you just watched it was still Jukka Nevalainen, he left as the drummer in 2014 and is now with the band's management team)
- Troy Donockley - Uilleann pipes, tin whistle, vocals, guitar, keyboards, bouzouki, etc. - English
The backing tracks are recorded with the London Philarmonic full orchestra and choir.
They had 2 previous singers Tarja Turunen 1996-2005 and Anette Olzon 2007-2012.
Best method for reacting to Nightwish that I figured from watching reactors and discovering them recently and exploring their catalog myself:
Keep the particularly long and complex songs listed below, if you have not watched them already, for after you have seen all the more standard ones from the 4 live shows mentioned in the numbered list:
- Ghost Love Score (Wacken) 10 minutes
- The Poet and the Pendulum (Wembley) 14 minutes >>> Doing some research on the background story for this song is very important to be able to appreciate the meaning of the lyrics.
- Greatest Show on Earth (Tampere) 21 minutes
1- Just do all the Wacken 2013 songs, they are all great.

A big Welcome to the Nightwish Universe from Nightwish Army Denmark 🇩🇰 👍

I hope you were ready for the Nightwish Army because you've summoned us! I hope to see you continue down the Nightwish path and I look forward to it if you do.

For most people the next song to try would be one called Romanticide from the same live show: th-cam.com/video/zz_7OCCQlXs/w-d-xo.html
But if you want top try something different from your singing coach point of view, Marco (the bass player) also has a wonderful voice that so often ends up playing second fiddle to Floor, but they sometimes let him take center stage vocally too. I would recommend either The Islander: th-cam.com/video/Zo8ncK_5kzc/w-d-xo.html or
High Hopes (a Pink Floyd cover): th-cam.com/video/4oEDnVeYYyM/w-d-xo.html, both of which are fantastic!
Or Marko's recent side project single out as : Marko Hietala "the voice of my father"

Welcome to the Kingdom of Nightwish with it's army of global proportions......once smitten......great reaction .
Nightwish Army reinforcement from Atlanta reporting. Prepare for a deep rabbit-hole with Nightwish and Floor. Subbed.
If you want to hear her sing straight opera there's a video of her singing "O mio babbino caro" And another of her, together with Simone Simon (Another great singer from the band Epica) singing "Stabat mater dolorosa"
I think your next Nightwish reaction should be Storytime from the same show.
FLOORGASMS!!!
Might wanna set aside a Nightwish Day after this :P
She can sing really everything from opera over pop/ rock to growls
This gig was at Wacken. Wacken is THE metal festival worldwide. Nightwish were one of the headliners in 2013.
It is in the north of Germany in a rural area. Therefore the bullhead with flames is the Wacken symbol. There are more than 80.000 metalheads having a big party each year.
Here are some suggestions for your next stops:
-> There are only great songs from Wacken: „Story Time“ and "Ever Dream" are catchy in a very positive way. "Song of Myself" starts catchy and ends with everyone headbanging. "Romanticide", "Last Ride of the Day" and "Ghostriver" are the heavier ones.
-> "Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean" (Buenos Aires) will give you a metal and power blast: Maximum speed and Marco (the singing bass player) becomes Hannibal Lecter ;-)
-> "Yours an Empty Hope" from Wembley (have a good look!! at the growls. You'll be surprised.)
-> „Dead Boys Poem“ from Buenos Aires (so amazing and emotional)
-> „Weak Fantasy“ (Tampere): Kai the beastat the drums, Troy joins in, great duets with Floor and Marco, …
-> Elvenjig / Elvenpath (Buenos Aires): Awesome intro and it continues on that level
-> "The greatest Show on Earth" (Tampere) is one of the two most epic songs. The title is not about the gig, but about the topic of the song: The evolution of mankind.
-> "The Poet and the Pendulum“ (Wembley) is my personal absolute masterpiece of Nightwish. Be sure to know the background of this song ahead (short version see below *)

From the new album there are for obvious reasons no live sessions so far.
The video is great as the song itself
--> "Tribal" is the heaviest one and Kai, the drummer, had to change his normal setup to be able to play it.
-> Procession“ a rather calm song with so amazing vocals by Floor
--> "Harvest" is so different with Troy singing, that you will wonder if you're listening to Nightwish.
-> „Endlessness“ is Marcos song and shows his great voice.
--> "Music", „How's the Heart", ... are really cool songs as well. Of course.
The album challenged Floor as singer, which is not easy to do, as she is one of the best and most versatile singers in the world.

If you'd like to Explore Floor on her own:
Beste Zangers Just in case (which I can really recommend) you're going to do "Beste Zangers" make sure you take the clips posted by "jenniezelf" on TH-cam as she has also included the talking / interviews before and after with english subtitles.

* Backstory for „Poet and the Pendulum“
Tuomas (the keyboarder and songwriter) was in depression after the split from their first singer Tarja.
Here is the open letter Tuomas / the band wrote towards Tarja:

And here is her response:

From what I have heard, her husband/manager was (from the bands point of view) the core of the problem. There is one song addressing him: "Master Passion Greed"
They never played it live and will never do so.
She has some edge ...maybe Yours is an empty hope next? 😉
That’s exactly what I said when she said that.
Yikes deep end suggestions coming in already

Wonderful react Missy, and welcome to Nightwish. You are correct, Floor Jansen is classically trained. She is a graduate of the Dutch National Conservatory of Music, in the Netherlands. However, she's fronted very successful metal bands since she was 16, all while completing her education. How cool is that for someone so young?
loved the reaction, thx missy
Thank you for reacting to Nightwish. They are some amazing musicians, and Floor is the "Swiss Army Knife" of vocals. She can sing using Operatic delivery, she can belt with the best of them, and she can also sing in multiple languages. For some added content, check Beste Zangers 2019, which is a Dutch TV show featuring some pretty amazing singers, including Floor. Again, thank you for this reaction.
You really need to watch the entire concert, Wacken 2013. Floor owns it. It’s a mind blowing experience.
Since everyone else has commented on everything else ; as a photographer, I !"#¤%! love that lone microphone shot. It's fantastic.
suggestion: Nightwish - My Walden :)
