A General is a commander in the army. An Admiral is a commander in the navy. Not only are they the sams rank, but it's also out of jurisdiction, unless an officer of superior rank and with overall command (like the commander of an entire front or region or one of his subordinates) makes that command.

I feel like the clone commanders who were personally trained by Jango would have far greater knowledge of battle tactics and leadership skills than any Jedi general. Not to say some Jedi weren’t great leaders like Anakin for example but most Jedi had little experience compared to those clone commanders.

@@sp4391 Your thinking of Krell, Anakin actually admired and respected his soldiers. Now was it Anakin’s fault that his legion (501st) saw the most action in the war compared to other legions? Think about it, Anakin and the 501st took part in many of the major conflicts during the clone wars and using common sense we know that in war and in brutal battles of war you will lose men. Normandy and the storming of the beach, are you saying that the Eisenhower was a dumbass when that was literally the only strategy he had, throwing his men into the meat grinder? Same goes for Anakin, at least he spearheaded most if not all of the conflicts his legion was apart of. Many of the Jedi generals did not fight in the front lines like Anakin did or lead his men in the front.

During the Old Republic Jedi clearly had a superior rank within the military of the Republic where they could lead entire armies in campaigns, but there also separation as well between them and other military officers work better as co-commanders or even as junior commanders for the Jedi under non-force user if their experience outweigh the Jedi. Palpatine on purpose created a situation that the Jedi were in the highest in command so that every failure and death could be blame on them, and corrupt the image of the Jedi as warmongers rather than the peacekeepers they once were.

lol Clones are all 9 years old when deployed, that 14 year old has 5 years more experience than they do. Remember that clones age twice as fast, they're all half as old as they look. It isn't a matter of age, but of training. Clones were trained in tactics and strategy from the moment they were made, while Jedi were trained primarily as diplomats and cops for about as long. They sent the local SWAT Team to go tell Westpoint graduates what to do, and they only got away with it because the Clones were genetically engineered to be obedient. The Jedi didn't study such warfare, tactics etc. Qui-Gon even flat out told Padmé in Episode 1: "we are not soldiers". They are essentially monks who by the way have sabres to protect themselves and others around them. They are not Ulysses Grant or Patton etc. It was an asinine idea for them to take part in battles. No wonder they became blind to the emergence of the dark side and by the time they noticed it was too late.

It was intentional, it was over a thousand years since the republic and the jedi went into active war. Palpatine relied on this to blame the jedi for the war. The Jedi made a deal in the past with the republic with no foresight to see the potential problems of decay, where an organization loses its war capabilities despite being expected to be involved.

I think its also worth mentioning that the clone commanders who served under the generals had a higher rank then normally if their general was a higher ranked one. Kenobi is a good example: He lead a systems army, thus making cody 2nd in command of not just the 7th sky corps, but also leader of a huge number of other units including the 501st. Codys rank Was the highest a clone could get: Marshall commander. But He had more Power then "normal" Marshall commanders who just Controller a corps. So that means that high ranked clone officers' Power depended on their jedi generals Power. Confusing shit, because if cody would have served under someone else He would just have a corps because of his rank. But having a high general gives him more authority too

I would go further as to say they should have been made a special operations unit.
Made to go in during difficult and highly dangerous assignments during campaigns such as Umbara, Geonosis, and Fulucia.
Security Forces would make up the bulk of the “common” infantry that would accompany the Jedi during assignments and clones should they wish to would have the option to join.
As for command I’d say the Jedi could’ve had complete authority in their own operations whilst having close to equal authority in other operations outside of their chain of command. Equal authority in that they would be addressed by their rank and respected, not so much so having higher commanding authority than the equivalent rank of other branches. If anything they have authority as an advisor when it comes to other branch’s chain of command.

Even the order was different in different periods of time. the order went from something of a monastic order of warrior monks, to a militant order of superpowered warrior monks acting in the capacity of a militia, then increasingly becoming a weird institution of demigod lords that quite practically ruled the galaxy, before being absorbed completely into the republic as a branch of its armed forces. for much of the Jedi Order's history, they were mostly an independent institution working closely to the republic, then almost becoming the republic itself, before becoming entirely subordinate to the republic. during the times when the Jedi Order was independent, they can do their own shit & didn't have to actually answer to anyone but themselves, more so when the order was actually the republic. then came the time we knew so well that the order no longer had such independence, which meant that like it or not, the Jedi just had to do whatever the fuck the republic government told them to.

In real life I should mention it’s not entirely odd to have a General lead a “Task Force”. It depends on the tasks involved, and generally speaking, an Army General will allow a Naval Admiral to operate with pretty vast autonomy. Because whilst the General is “in charge”, if they’re competent they know they know NOTHING about commanding a fleet, and vice versa. Unlike Star Wars, real militaries are very much aware of their roles as completing objectives for the STATE rather than a group or idea. So an objective is to be completed by whatever forces necessary. A General does the actual taking of the objective and the Admiral handles supply, landing, and reinforcing. This is a VERY simple look at it (yes I know I explained virtually nothing.) but the short and simple is “a person in charge of ANY major operation will be in charge of everyone, regardless of rank or branch.” Technically it’s possible to have an Air Force Brigadier General in charge of a Marine Task force ABOVE a Marine General. But of course you would never see that because the Air Force has no experience invading, so unless the force is ONLY doing something like Disaster Recovery, it wouldn’t make any logical sense and wouldn’t really work. Hope this at least kind of explained the real world parallels and feel free to correct me or ask questions if you know anything more. Like I said my explanation is dirty and VERY simple.

I want to know more about the Moffs. What exactly are they? For a while I thought it was simply another name for the planetary governors, but they seem to be a bit more. Perhaps sector governors? If so, what then is a Grand Moff? There was Tarkin, who was pretty much in charge of the entire Imperial military, which would make him incapable of also being a governor (though I seem to remember Leia calling him governor in A New Hope). And then in the X-Wing novels, when Isard hands over control of Imperial forces on Coruscant to Kirtan Loor, he says that she is effectually making him Grand Moff of the planet. So it all seems wildly inconsistent.

Prior to the Clone War, most planets/systems had a regional Governor/Duke/King and Galactic Senator. In many cases the Senator was the ruling person, because their local government sent their head as their representative in the Senate, but that wasn't always the case. During the war, as local civil wars and Republic "liberations" of Separatist worlds. Many governments were toppled and replaced. Individual worlds gained a Governor, that usually kept power if they were loyal during the change to the Empire. When Palpatine changed the organization to Sectors. There were appointed Moffs over the Sectors. Later the entire Outer Rim was lumped into an Over Sector and given to the new Grand Moff Tarkin. I don't actually know what other Over Sectors were created, but we know it happened. Because rebels were using the Sector system to dance around Imperial investigations.

I find that they threw a lot of troopers away simple due to their inexperience. Clones while not battle tested were trained by the best mercenaries, bounty hunters, and military leaders of the time. They had more time to prepare and did live fire training with training rounds/droids the same model as the CIS ones so while it is not real combat every trooper knew exactly what they were up againist.

There wouldn't have been a clone war if the Jedi ain't involved. Palps engineered the whole thing from day one specifically to mess with the Jedi first & foremost. the Jedi's participation as high-ranking military commanders had been an ABSOLUTE condition to get the entire show running.
Messed-up machinations right from the start aside, it became clear very early in the war that the CIS droid army is superior in just about every damn way compared to the GAR. if Palps hadn't been throwing wrenches after wrenches into the CIS' side to make sure that they don't get too powerful, if they were to actually be allowed to fight in earnest, the Jedi Order could have been twice as huge & three times as powerful, & the republic would STILL lose the war in the end.

Moffs weren't created until after the Clone Wars bro.
Also, It's entirely possible for generals to give orders to an admiral. It all depends on who is in operational control of the theater or operation.

Always found it a little disappointing. Clones were breed to win the war . They were taught almost every battle tactic and independent thinking creating new tactics .
Being bred to win a war . And control armies and have ranking systems . And then have a Jedi with no battle experience just become in charge seems dumb on the ranking part . Maybe as advisors with the commandors being in charge of ground forces and then admirals of course being admirels . And the general rank just being done away with . Or giving them to certain admirels or clones

  • @liamhamilton9086
    @liamhamilton9086 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

It would’ve been interesting to see the Jedi during the Clone Wars operate as a special operations unit/branch.
In that branch they’d have complete authority on their own operations and have close to equal if not equal authority in other branches when it comes to being advisors.
Security Forces would be chosen from the Temple to become part of their separate infantry and perhaps citizens who wish to join the war could enlist in this special operations unit provided with the proper amount of training.
If it were not for Palpatine I would say that the Jedi could choose whether or not to allow Clones to join as part of the special unit. If anything the Jedi could enlist Commandos and perhaps ARCs if the possibility of keeping clones out was nonexistent.
As for missions they’d be sent during highly dangerous and very difficult assignments during strenuous campaigns. Some examples would include Geonosis, Umbara, and Fulucia.

Really made no sense to have a Padawan, a learner, to outrank a born and raised Clone Commander, or really ANY clone bred for leadership duties. A Padawan being brought along with their Master into battle should defer to both their Master first AND their clone liaison second.

Other then that thanks for a great video

To be fair the Jedi aren't a terrible choice for commanders and generals they were generally well educated in a variety of subjects including tactics and strategy of course not all studied those subjects but those who did were excellent leaders on the battlefield.

The clone wars never had any threat for me or high stakes not like The Great Sith War in The Old Republic where people killed people and either side had good and bad people . The Sith were right but for the wrong reasons and the Jedi were wrong but for the right reasons.
Darth Viciate was right to create the Eternal Empire to see if it is true if warrior balanced in the force Light and Dark was better than Sith and Jedi and he was right...they were unstoppable and called their use of the force (Justice) not light or dark. So the clone wars was just a bunch of stupid robots and clones...the stakes are too weak for me.
