  • Hey everybody! I hope you enjoy the house and calisthenics home gym tour! I am NOT trying to flex in this video. Just need to make that clear. I'm in no way trying to "show off" my home or anything. This was a request that's come in many times now to see a whole house tour, so I figured why not? It's a fun way to give you guys a calisthenics equipment update :)

    You have such a beautiful home! Sounds like your wife is very creative. I appreciate that you emphasize that not a lot of equipment is needed for calisthenics; as a broke student, the price tag (or lack thereof) is one of the main reasons I became interested in this path. Cheers!

    Weighted vests are awesome! I got one half a year ago, and have mostly used it for hiking, but started using it for pushups the other day, and ordered a good pullup bar yesterday. I dont really care about getting ripped, so i have usually only trained cardio (hiking, kayaking, and riding my bike), but ive been getting lazy the last few years, and usually dont have the patience for longer exercise sessions, so the option to add more resistance is a huge motivation for me to at least do a quick exercise every now and then. I used to feel sluggish and almost got out of breath just thinking about running, but after a few short hikes with the vest, i feel light as a feather, and running got a LOT easier. The only downside is that it can get pretty hot, and so it is not ideal for hiking on warm summer days... I also got a hydraulic rower and an exercise bike (both with possibility for pretty high resistance, for those lazy days/years, lol!), so now i mostly just want an adjustable bench and some dumbbells - and i guess i should get some rings too. Getting the pullup bar makes me suspect i will get another month or 2 of regular exercise, before taking a LONG UNdeserved break 😅

    The bare minimum is having a pullup bar. Hard to do vertical pull excercises without that. Even if you have rings you need some place to hang them on. Don't need anything for the push excercises as we can do a lot of excercises on the ground.

    • @MinusTheGym
      @MinusTheGym  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed. I prefer to minimally have a pull up bar, but I can make do with only the ground when necessary.

    Good job, your content is right on and well I am on the subject of Contant have a quick question for you. I noticed that when I am using the abb shell my lower back is starting to hurt just a bit right where my hip and lower back meet. I rest for a couple of days and the pain goes away. I have been watching you with your Atwill and following instructions very carefully. Keep a small arch with the core tight and when I stand keep the core tight and pull back with your core not your arms correct.

    • @MinusTheGym
      @MinusTheGym  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, that’s correct. A small arch should be fine. But if you’re experiencing pain in the low back from the ab wheel, I recommend working on your abdominal bracing without so much resistance. To do this, lie on the floor on your back with your knees bent. There should naturally be a gap between your lower back and the floor. A gap big enough that you can stick your hand beneath your lower back. Now contract the transverse abdominals by gently sucking it in, like you’re trying to put on a tight pair of jeans, while simultaneously contracting the glutes (butt) and you should feel that gap completely close. You should no longer be able to stick your hand under your lower back. Those contractions are tilting your pelvis to flatten the lower back more, and we call this abdominal bracing. Practice this often. Like 2 or 3 times a day, do a couple sets of 10 reps on the floor. The more your practice it, the better. Having strong abdominal bracing will fix the issue. The goal is to brace the abs and hold it for the entire set of the ab wheel.

    Do you know any good adjustable parallel bars besides the B Bars. Sadly they do not ship to my country.

    • @MinusTheGym
      @MinusTheGym  ปีที่แล้ว

      Look for Lebert Equalizer bars. Those are a nice alternative. They’re not height adjustable, but they’re two independent p-bars, like tall parallettes, so they’re highly versatile.

    What is better for a dip bar the b bars or the ultimate press dip bar?

    • @MinusTheGym
      @MinusTheGym  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The B-Bars are a more versatile but more expensive too, so it depends on your budget. The Ultimate Body Press dip station is great, don’t get me wrong, it’s just more limited because it’s not height adjustable, so its main advantage is that it costs less than half of the B-Bars.

    Hey man, I saw a video of yours where you talked how plant based diet saved your life. I have a problem with my digestive system for 3 years now, I am bloated every day, I pass around 20-30 times a day gas sometimes even more. I usually eat more meat than plants, but I do include them everyday in my diet, fruits too. Potatoes, rice, beans and peas make me gassy in minutes. Went to doctors, did all tests, got tubes down my throat, nothing. Nobody knows what I have, did you have this problem too? What can I do?

    • @MinusTheGym
      @MinusTheGym  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, I'm not a doctor, but I recommend cutting out the animal products completely and eating 100% whole food plant based for at least 3 weeks. You can gradually shift to this across several days, or go "all in" in one day if you want. Either way, you'll probably be on the toilet a lot as your system adjusts. Be sure to focus on raw fruits and vegetables as much as possible. Try to get at least half your calories from fruit and vegetables, if not more. It can also help to track what you eat in an app like Cronometer or MyFitnessPal to make sure you're getting enough calories for your height, weight, age and activity level (eating plant-based is much higher volume than omnivore, so people often don't eat enough in the beginning). The idea here is that your microbiome - the bacteria in your gut - are kind of a hodgepodge right now due to the omnivore diet you've been eating. Going 100% plant based will gradually reset your microbiome with the bacteria that are meant to be in there and this will help your digestion be less "violent." Not to mention the focus on raw food will help clean out your colon too. No matter what, though, you will always have some gas from the starchy complex carbs (legumes, lentils, grains, etc.) if you eat too much of them. We're biologically adapted for fruits and vegetables - not grains and legumes. Our most ancient ancestors ate upwards of 95%+ of their calories from raw fruit and veg. So the more you eat of those raw foods, the better off you'll be in terms of digestion.

    • @Kanvox
      @Kanvox ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MinusTheGym Thanks man! I will try your advice and include half of my calories as fruits and veggies, I dont know how I will get 1500 calories just from them but I will see, If this will fix my gut problem, i swear I will add you to my prayers. Hahaha, take care!

    • @MinusTheGym
      @MinusTheGym  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not easy but there are some hacks 😊 For example, cut a large watermelon in half, hold it like a bowl and just eat it all with a spoon. Half a large watermelon is approx. 700 cals. Bananas are pretty calorie-dense too. Roughly 100 cals per large banana. I'll eat strawberries a few pounds at a time. 2 or 3 cantaloupes in one sitting. It's easiest to focus on one fruit at a time like that. Or make a huge fruit salad and throw some greens in there. That's a fun way too. The worst part is the price of it. Fresh produce can be quite expensive depending on where you shop.

    • @Kanvox
      @Kanvox ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MinusTheGym wow I did not know about watermelon having that Manu calories, i can blend it too, i was also thinking about bananas, avocados, maybe some nuts too, olives, yeah the prices can be a problem, luckly there are some nice deals from time to time here, i might not go full vegan but i will try my best to at least go half half
