The best part of traveling alone is getting away from tourist nonsense-- then stumbling upon little "hidden" places like this. Anywhere you go in the world, they're out there. Not crowded, genuine, lovely.
I studied in Japan for a year. Just outside the student housing area there was a tiny little restaurant; someone had simply remodeled the ground floor of a small 2-story house to a restaurant with maybe 4-5 tables. They had the most wonderful genuine japanese food I've ever tried. Working out what to order was a challenge though, as none of the elderly couple that ran the place could speak even the simplest english, but it was good practice for my japanese skills
I want to live in Hokkaido...I know this place name from doraemon cartoon ..where novita one friends was from hokaido..she was from hokaido..she said to novita to come in hokaido...I really want to visit that place before I die..
These videos remind me of visiting my relatives in Japan. They make me feel so at home. I go for teppenyaki lunches with my cousins when I visit. The sound of the sizzling reminds me of my mother and grandmother and aunts cooking. It's such a wonderful time, being there. Food really does bring out the best in us.

Amazing production - both in terms of camera work and chefs’ creations. Oftentimes the best and most satisfying things in life are simple, not complex. A premier restaurant not only features great food but memorable service. I’m ready to fly to Hokkaido just to see the cute auntie smile as I enjoy a truly remarkable meal.

I love watching all of this Japanese, Vietnamese, Chinese, Taiwanese and Korean cooking video. I definitely pick up some new cooking ideas and skills. Thanks for sharing and it look so good : )
18? Maybe 88 years old... What i try to say js that japanese women looks much younger that they realy was. For example, 40 years old japanese woman looks younger that some 25 years old women in USA, Europe... I think food they eat is crucial for that. In Japan even "street" or "junk" food is healthy. They eat lots of seafood, not very much bread , they dont have same amount sugar in soda, chocalate ( have less sugar and other poison)...
+Nenad Vuckovic Generally speaking, to us asian, European at certain point looks far older (or mature) than their age & i've heard many times that us asians look younger than our age (to the europeans)
I just love how Teppanyaki chefs in Japan don't do all that "flippy spinny" shit with their knives and spatulas. They actually put care into their food as they cook.
I mean comparing Teppanyaki and Hibachi is pretty hard, as typically Hibachi is a "party" thing that you bring friends and family for the show, while Teppanyaki is more intimate with the person or few people that the chef is cooking for. All about a different business
Teppanyaki came about as a way for struggling Japan to rebuild itself after WW2. American troops were fascinated by Japanese food during their military occupation, and through good old fashioned Japanese hospitality, Teppanyaki was born as a way to attract the very large US soldiers and their large appetites, and deep military wallets. There's no need to be flashy about it to locals, as that entire show of spatula prowess was created to attract giant US soldiers into stopping by and checking you out.

Arkham's Gaming. Really? Japan is cheap? Hmm perhaps it depends where you live or touring in Japan I'm assuming. Yeah America is a shithole with so much expensive shit
I found food to be pretty cheap in regular places. Of course if you are in tourist areas the prices tend to be a little, but it's not too bad. I always found that when the price is higher the food quality always matches, instead of other tourist places where you pay 7 euros for a coke.
Almost 3:00 am... I was studying for my final exam to be a doctor, and I wonder how the fuck I ended here enjoying the prep and feeling hungry. I love the way these chefs treat the food and serve it
That looked amazing and quite filling. I was in Japan for two weeks and swear I had to order two of everything the portions were so small. Now I know the secret, find a place run by a kindly grandmother.
These videos are awesome. I love how you get the full experience of what its like to eat here. The video creator feels no need to inform his viewers outside of a simple description on the video. I fuckin love that theres no interjection, or editing. Its just the raw unfiltered experience and I get to experience it ALMOST in the same way that the camera holder does (minus the best part - eating it). Even though im sitting here and every time they set an ingredient down I'm like "what is that???" but thats also sort of my favorite part, its just part of the unfiltered experience. Fantastic videos man! Im super jealous you get to eat all this good food. My only question that isnt in the description is how expensive are these meals? If i were to go to Japan is this typically how dinner might be served or is this kind of style only reserved for the fancier restaurants?
This is not a traditional Teppanyaki place over there. They have the same types of shows we have here in America. It was harder to find on mainland, but Oki had them all over the place cheap as hell. I used to eat one that did a semi show and charged $12 at lunch.
