This was a very thorough video and very helpful in repairing my uncle’s Genie garage door opener. There were actually two problems with his, one with pinched wiring from tight stapling during original installation and depending on time of day, the sunlight caused problems with the green sensor. This video addressed both problems very well. Thanks for the attendance to detail.

I had a similar issue with the sun, and I attempted all sorts of solutions with the outdated box-style sensors. However, I decided to purchase the newer sensors and installed the green one on the side with more shade. Your advice was incredibly helpful - thank you for sharing!

I watched this video as I was pondering how to mount the sensors when switching from Genie (1024 model with old school boxy sensors) to Chamberlain. I decided to keep the old Genie bracket. I slid the sensor off and drilled a hole in the bracket to fit the screw hole for the Chamberlain/liftmaster sensor. It's a surprisingly good fit.

I have run into the sunlight problem, I made an ABS pipe cover and then they worked perfectly. Thanks....Jim
PS.....I got a new Liftmaster 8550, it’s so much better than a Genie.....I’ll never go back. My new door opener is so quiet, has battery backup, has MyQ, is so easy to program, and has a button on the outside pad to close......many things Genie lacked. I never got more than 8 years out of a Genie. In my family there are 2 Liftmaster over 25 years old. Programming is so easy.

Hello Jim Pie! Thanks for the feedback. The 8550WLB is my go-to belt drive motor from LiftMaster. It's a very polished motor. I've never had a customer complain this motor. Genie use to dominate the garage door motor space for a long time. But they have had an uphill battle with some of their newer motors. I appreciate your feedback. Stay safe party person!

Will the new Genie Safety Eyes work with my Genie Blue Max screw drive circa 1994? If so the old sensors have a plug on the end of the wire that goes into the back of them. Do I just cut the plug off and strip the wires and connect them via the screw terminals? If so which colored wire goes to which terminal? One wire is solid white and the other is white with a blue stripe. Thank you!

Very thorough explanation, thank you. We have two Genie door openers, one is connected Genie Aladden connect. We are wanting to add another door sensor on the other door, however for all Genie's videos and TH-cam, they do not show how to wire connect the two openers together allowing Aladdin Connect to manage the other door.

My old Genie square sensors were working fine, then all of a sudden they died, i.e. no green or red lights. I ruled out the potential wiring problem since the system was working. I plugged in the two new Genie sensors shown in this video. Unfortunately, there is still no green or red light with the new sensors. Any thoughts on what could the problem be?
BTW, the garage door opener motor is still working; it will open, but it won't close for the obvious reason that the sensors are not working.

I had to replace the sensors on my aunt's genie intellicode screw drive once. The red sensor was giving the 3 flash error code, meaning it was getting interference. It wasn't from the sun, it still did it when the door was closed. I couldn't figure it out for the life of me, so we just changed them out and we haven't had any issues with it since.

I just bought a new genie opener (model 2035) with these safety beams. The red light blinks three times and the door will open fine but I have to hold the button on the wall for it to close. I have tried swapping the sensors around to see if that helps but it didn’t. I do have a large shelf that is about 6” behind the sensor that I really don’t want to have to move. Do you think that could be the problem or could it be faulty sensors? Thanks

    • @sosgds

Hello. It's possible that you might have a bad connection to the sensors. I would check the wires to the motor first. Make sure the sensor wires are the two far left connections. I would also check the wiring to the sensors. Another possibility is that the sensors are faulty.

Hello. I believe your wires to the wall button and Safe T Beam sensors are crossed. The wall button wires should connect into the black and white terminal to the motor head (white wire to the white terminal and color/lined wired to the black terminal). There sensor terminals are colored different but you want to place the white wire on the left terminal and the colored/lined wire on the right wire. Hope this helps.

I have the Genie 2040L garage door opener from 2007. My Safe T Beams are blue rectangles. The box of the replacement Safe T Beams indicates that they are not compatible with the 2040L model. Do you know why? Genie could not answer this question when I called them.

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hello. The reason why is because that motor was not from their original manufacturer. The 2040L was from a different China plant and the tech behind this motor which includes the sensors are not compatible. Yet I am surprised they would not support it. Which usually means they are discontinuing the product line.

Basically you have to cut the clips off. You will want to strip a small portion of the plastic sheath to the wire exposing the wiring about 1/2 inch. And you will join the white wires together. Then you will join the white blue wires separately together. From there you simply unscrew the contacts on the new Genie sensors and set the wires in securely. Please let me know if that helps.

Santiago, I've bought a Chamberlain model sensor kit to install onto a few years old Genie opener; this was the only one Home Depot carried at several stores. In your experience, are they cross compatible. The Chamberlain box says only to install onto a couple different brands but doesn't mention Genie as one of those brands. I have to install on a rental property that is a bit of a drive and I don't want to travel all the way out there to find that they don't work together. Its seems like one of your readers mentioned this (Dollar Guy), but not the Chamberlain model specifically.

Okay so it should be that you should have two terminals on each sensor. And the four terminals to the Motorhead will be for the wall button and the sensors. So the last thing you want to do is to apply the safety sensor wiring to the connecting terminals for the wall button. You only want to use the two terminals for the safety sensor. I know that sounds a little confusing but basically if all four terminals to the motor are occupied then that means your specific motor may not have the sufficient terminals for safety sensors, thus your motor would be too old and you're better off upgrading your motor system then simply applying new sensors.
