Geoff actually has a 5 octave range. This was the first song I ever heard him sing because I love Tennessee Ernie Ford. I remember seeing him on I Love Lucy reruns. I'm not that old yet. Anyway, I didn't know who Geoff was or Voiceplay. I actually thought it was quadruplets at first and about choked. I can honestly say he and Voiceplay became my obsession. I have watched every video they have come out with and they only get better. Goeff's Take Me Home Country Roads is fantastic and I didn't even like John Denver's version. If you get the chance you should really react to Geoffs cover of the Headless Horseman and anything by Voiceplay. The Oogie Boogie Song has Geoff as lead singer and really shows off his range but all of the groups songs are great.

This one is Great, but you need to hear him do "Bear Necessities" & "Mele Kalikimaka /with the American Sirens" but what made the Internet Scream was "Oogie Boogie Song" with Voice Play. (and it's Tennessee ERN-EE Ford) 16 Tons was a huge hit for him back in the 40's, along with "The Shotgun Boogie". If you ever watched the old Black and White I Love Lucy reruns he had a recurring character called Cousin Ernie. He was also known for his singing of Gospel songs. Keep up the good work, Delightful as always.

Even the high notes in this song are him. I don't know if you prefer to do seasonal songs only in the season, but in addition to "Oogie Boogie's Song", Voiceplay also covered "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch", and "Grim, Grinning Ghosts". Geoff covered "The Headless Horseman", and recently "Take Me Home, Country Roads". Voiceplay also has a great collaboration with MANY other a capella artists: "Just Sing". If/when you do that one, be sure you have the captions turned on. They included information about who everyone is (as well as some rather snarky remarks).
Oh! You should also check out their cover of "Daddy Sang Bass".

This song was originally by Tennessee Ernie Ford. Tennessee grew up in Bristol, TN in upper East Tennessee. This song is about the relationship between the miners and the mining company. 16 tons of coal was required per shift. If you got less than that they docked your pay. Miners did not get a paycheck. They were given "store credit" to pay their rent and utilities as well as get household items and food from the company store. They were always and forever essentially slaves to the mining company.

Also, yes I would very much appreciate you reviewing 16 Tons by Tennessee Ernie Ford, along with many others, such as Peace it the Valley, In the Garden, The Old Rugged Cross, along with many more. I admired him for many years, My Dad had a television repair shop, where he also sold Televisions and record players. As Stereo was brand new at that time, my Dad would play Stereo records by TEF, Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, and the Country Music album by Ray Charles. This was back in the early 60'sso obviously I am as my daughter describes me "Older than dirt."

I love finding videos from people who are hearing Geoff for the first time, just to see the Surprised Pikachu face on them when he hits those low notes!

Tennesee Ernie Ford did the snaps to keep the tempo when he recorded it, but he recorded with an orchestra and was a mid-level baritone. As he aged, his voice deepened to a bass-baritone, but never as low as Geoff sings.

Hi Gitana! I’ve been with you for a long time now and I love the way you break down the videos. Geoff is one of the best bass singers I’ve heard. Any of his solo projects or his Voiceplay songs is pure gold. It’s a rabbit hole you’ll be glad you explored.

WOW! I could've sworn that you'd already done Oogie Boogie, but apparently not. Others to check out by Voiceplay are "Warriors" and their original called "Just Sing" (make sure you have the captions on for this one though, trust me it'll help a LOT). Also Geoff has several solo tracks and I recommend "Blackbird" and "the Headless Horseman".

Hey there girl. This is the best bass singer I have heard in decades. This man is a vocal stud. He goes down to those low notes and just lives there. Ernie not Aaron. Tennessee Ernie Ford was a big time entertainer back in the day. This artist and song is a classic. I was born and raised in West Virginia, the Mountain State - A large coal mining state. For many years West Virginia produced more coal than any other state. There are states out west that may mine more tonnage. But the quality of the coal is not as good. More ash, less BTU's, etc.... In the early years of coal production, the work was ALL done by hand. They used a #4 shovel to move the coal to a rail-mounted car. All of the rock, slate was tossed to the side. This coal helped build America. Fortunes were made and it is still big money. Most of the coal these days ships overseas. Not much steel is made in America these days. Some states and companies use coal to generate their electricity. At one time the Pittsburgh Seam of coal was the most valuable mineral deposit in the world. It ran from the Pittsburgh part of Pennsylvania down thru West Virginia all of the way to Alabama. Check out Tennessee Ernie's version of this classic song. As always take care and stay safe.

Just so you know Geoff Castellucci has a five octave range.
He and the rest of Voiceplay have been professionally performing for at least the last 10 years.
Jeff and Layne have known each other since middle school and all of them are mad talented.
They often do all their own production work including camera, lighting.cinematography, costuming, and choreography. If they do have help it’s usually friends or family and their production values are easily the equivalent of a major studio.
I actually attended a live performance in Walt Disney World during one of the Christmas parties and even though they do do some post production of their soundtracks for their videos I can promise you The low notes are real, the high notes are real, and all the harmonies, counterpoints and arrangements are as mind bowing in person as they are on you tube.
You are in for a real treat if you start watching voice play videos. They’ve recently settled on four permanent members again and are still featuring a guest member in their videos since they’ve had various people come and go over Time.
They are lovely people on stage and off and have really good relationships even with past members and with groups like home free who they are personal friends with.
    Enjoy the ride

Gitana, the song was written about coal miners. The Sixteen Tons of the title refers to the amount of coal a miner had to load before he got paid anything. The wages were very low and the miners were often paid in chits which were only able to be used at a store owned and run by the coal mining company. Prices were often higher than at a comparable store and was the only place that accepted the chits., They were required to buy their working tools at the store, so the miners went into debt at the store. I love your reactions to the different songs and love you (and Lucky).

    • @jeffhunt1976
      @jeffhunt1976 3 ปีที่แล้ว

This is exactly right. The miners stayed in debt because of the high prices, and were never able to break even or get get free. The practice still exists today though many don't realize it. It's called human trafficking; another form of slavery.
