He’s really focused on extending his chest voice down so he rarely needs subs; he’s really focused on the clarity of his voice. I can go a lot lower, but I don’t sound anywhere near as good.

@@TheCharismaticVoice You're definitely my favorite music reactor just because you put so much analysis and detail into your work. Too many reactors feel like I'm just watching the original video with a friend who likes to mutter a lot. I love it when you pause and go into depth about something.
My mom fell in love with my dad the moment she heard his voice booming from the back of the auditorium at the university. Dad loved singing Eastern Orthodox liturgy which requires such super-deep bass voices. His voice was sought by conductors and he sometimes was a member of two or three choirs at the same time. He sang in church (and I joined him a couple of times as I can read music from a sheet), but also traveled around the world, cut records, sang on stage in opera choruses, etc. Of course, over the decades of singing he made friends. The guys in his choir section - with equally incredibly deep voices - were his lifelong best friends. So, every now and then they'd come for dinner. After they ate, they'd each pick up one of my 3-4 guitars and start singing. Songs like "Go down Moses", "Long White Robe" and "Born under the Wandering Star" and yes, "Sixteen tons". The whole house was booming and shaking (and that was a 64-appartments building) and all the neighbors could feel it if not hear it. My voice is deep, but not like his. Also, unlike my Dad, I never studied how to sing properly (perhaps I can watch Geoff's videos on techniques of singing deep). I was, for many years, invited to all the parties to bring my guitar and sing. But how I wish I could sing the way he could. He died in 2003, and mom died last month (her 89 birthday would have been tomorrow). So these songs make me sad and nostalgic....
Just a couple things The whole lead vocal is sung in chest voice! He tends to start doing subharmonics at a G1 (in fact I think there’s only 2 songs where he’s sang subharmonics at a higher pitch) It’s hard cuz us mere mortals cannot understand how it’s possible to sound like that at the bottom of his voice but that’s just the timbre of his natural voice. Subharmonics sound a bit more electronic or robotic 13:11 this ones a G#1 His lowest chest note is indeed an F#1 which he sings twice in this at “step a *side* and that low slide at the end
Yep. If you turn on the closed captions, he actually put, in parentheses. that the final slide goes down to a low F# (with a little wink emoji, to all those he knows are checking the notes he's singing on their pianos) ..😉
Its the kidnap the sandy claws Marcelo, and I think almost everyone who watch it thinks it as an overtone but Geoff just change the placement he sing the subharnonic.
You were surprised he could sing "high", but if you view his TH-cam video in which he shares tips for singing "super, super low", he states he's actually a natural baritone. The very low range has come to him with only a massive amount of work. He said he's more comfortable in the baritone range. Enjoyed your perspectives on this cover and thanks for your analysis!
Geoff does use some instruments in most of his covers, he doesn't advertise them as a capella because there not but his voice is still very front and center, never fails to disappoint.
I went to a hotel in San Francisco to visit some friends that were in town. We met up in the lobby and hit the streets. Evening came and we went to this bar. We are hanging out and there was a singer at an open mic thing. She was singing these songs and playing a guitar. Most of the songs were in a higher register. She sang about 6 songs then she broke out into sixteen tons in a very very low register. The room was shocked when her voice dropped down to those low notes. After the song ended she acknowledged the fact that she wasn’t as womanly as she appeared. I love San Fran....
How the hell does ANYONE watch Elizabeth's videos and click "dislike"? Her take is always fresh and professional without being condescending to those if us who aren't professional musicians. She has absolutely increased my appreciation for music of all types
You're right, and thumbs up from me too! But Elizabeth "reacts", she doesn't critique. Not that she needs to--jeez, her fun and enthusiasm add so much. I've seen 10 or so reactions. She eludes to "mistakes" in a 3rd-person way ("here's where many singers struggle..." etc.). An interesting video show some real-life clunkers along with Elizabeth's ideas on how to help them out.
I still remember my first time finding Geoff and it was exactly this song. I think everyone's first reaction is "What in the utter fuck is that???" Geoff is awesome and every time hearing him sing it is sooo special :D
I can remember my Dad singing part of this song in the kitchen, while he made us breakfast/lunch/dinner. When he wasn't at work being a Navy pilot/ supply officer. His Dad was a coal miner.
I have listened to Geoff’s. Sixteen Tons I don’t how many times. But he makes me smile and my heart skip a beat or two. He is the stuff dreams are made of.
My grandfather was a coal miner. He died (and the local mine closed) before I was born but I heard my grandmother and father talk a little bit about it. The mining company provided housing for the miners and also owned the local general store. The mining company would get the wages of the miners back through the expenditures they had to make at the company store. It really felt like the mining company owned its miners. It certainly owned every thing the miners "owned".
Yep, for me Blackbird is also his best solo song... and maybe even better than this one to start reacting to his solo work... but well, hope it's the second soon :)
Guys, take the time out to watch and listen to Elizabeth singing, wow. Certainly lends credence to her reactions to others songs. Lovely voice and lovely lady to boot.
Your "innocent joy" in listening to music/sounds just makes you utterly adorable 😇. You would keep any man in your life youthful by just being the one you are 😊. Watching your videos is a treat ⚘
Elizabeth's limbic system is going into overdrive, fluttering eyes and the face touches. Geoff's voice is literally stressing her body out and it's doing all these subconscious things to release that stress lol love it.
This is so addictive and unique! I heard that his wife was the one behind the camera for this one, which probably contributed to his "something extra." This is huge because his songs are almost always amazing! I just think another big reason people love him is his solid family values and reliability, which is so rare!
First time I heard this version I was blown away (being from the generation of Tennesie Ernie Ford), this is a GREAT cover. And boy does it show his range.
Geoff's voice is just out of this world! He is constantly perfecting it and making it sound easy! Takes lots of dedication! He confirmed that there are no subharmonics in this song, it's all his amazing, mesmerizing chest voice! I love your videos, the way you 'have to' go back and play it again, because you can't believe your ears! But it's all real. There's only one Geoff! I wish you could interview him, like you did with Layne. That would be awesome! All his solo work is great! The Headless Horseman, Take Me Home Country Roads, Mele Kalikimaka, Blackbird, High and Dry, the Bare Necessities. Please review them all, you won't regret it! Keep your giggling going!!
I watched Geoff's video on how he trained his voice to get that low. He describes it as a painful process and the first attempts actually hurt and he could only do a few notes which was painful. But then over time his "voice" grew stronger and learned to handle it like any muscle. So some of the pitches and changes .. he has repeatedly trained his voice to be able to handle those moves.
the reason i love Geoff, the man is a consummate professional. and imminently talented. he spends practically all of his time working on increasing his range, and then creating amazing works that we get to be amazed by. and his channel is amazing, he genuinely loves his work and loves to talk about the details, how he does it and what he is doing, and how he trains.
Missed it. Elizabeth looked lika a tree full of owls reacting to Geoff singing and going down low 😁. He sure have some pipes and talent, bet he can swoon the birds off the tree also. She had some Geoffgasms. With the giggles. Carry on, lady 👍👍.
I love Geoff's solo stuff. If you want to see him really show off his range, check out his cover of "Blackbird" by The Beatles. Also, his recent cover of "Take Me Home, Country Roads" is phenomenal.

To me it seems to really influence your explanations and how you want to share that excitement and have the viewer experience it as well. You are one awesome woman.

You are adding another layer to already incredible performances, and even making your vast knowledge understandable to complete novices like myself. Thank you very much for a remarkable effort.
Now we need a video of Geoff Castellucci reacting to Elizabeth 'The Charismatic Voice' reacting to Geoff's 16 Tons. In addition to all the amazing vocals, the choreography of the individual Geoff's backup singing and glances is amazing.
I agree with you. The first time I saw his video I was stunned at how deep he went with his voice and I had to repeat it a few times just to be sure I wasn’t imagining what I heard! Pretty impressive!
@15:50 Workers were paid in coins that were for the companys store, workers and their families essentially didn't have to leave the mining camp. But wages were rarely enough, so the company store would extend credit to the miners. Often times the miner would never make enough to free themselves from the debt that would be due in full upon their departure.
Love you always Elisabeth! While the main thing is always Geoff's bass performance, I really appreciate his creativity and willingness to tackle so many different projects! The way the camera "shakes" when he hits the downbeat is classic!
I was introduced to you with your reaction to Disturbed and The Sound Of Silence. Watching you evaluate this was on a completely different level. I swear that I watched you fall in love with him with that first deep tone. You were just so giddy throughout the video with each note lower than the last, it made it very fun to watch.
I watched Geoff’s video and was about to begin it again when I noticed Your reaction video in the suggestions. I spent more time skipping back watching you skip back and literally express what I was feeling. Thank you, thank you, thank you for being so excited and knowledgeable and joyful, and willing to explain exactly why I was so blown away by Geoff’s performance. I was super, extra blown away by your presentation of his performance. This was my first time seeing or hearing either of you. You made this so much more amazing for me. Thank you, thank you, thank you… SO Incredible!
Original was actually done by Merle Travis, but truly Geoff's version follows more on Tennessee Ernie Ford's hit. Actually really covered song from Elvis to Tom Morello, and I've heard couple of localized versions, there is dozens of those also. Familiar from Fallout 76 radio, Geoff also released Country Roads few weeks ago and that one is also favourite of Lone Wanderers.
This is the ultimate bass song I think-- since I received my baritone voice at 11 whenever I've woken up with allergies I've always sung this song just because it's fun to be able to sing, to feel it rattling your body and all the furniture around you...

I prefer Tennessee Ernie Ford,'s version better.
He’s really focused on extending his chest voice down so he rarely needs subs; he’s really focused on the clarity of his voice. I can go a lot lower, but I don’t sound anywhere near as good.
This was fantastic. Reaction videos are ubiquitous on TH-cam these days and yet, very few of them are worth the time to sit through. The majority rely on a gimmick/formula and offer precious little in the way of actual substance. Love yours for so many reasons: the attention to detail, the thoughtful analyses, the descriptiveness, the enthusiasm. I always leave with a new perspective on whatever you've just reacted to, even if it's something I'd heard a million times before. Anyway, thanks and keep up the great work!
Elizabeth is absolutely the best
Thank you both of you! I and we try really hard to bring substance to the content, but it's you the community that helps this channel grow and be amazing. Thank all of YOU!
@@TheCharismaticVoice You're definitely my favorite music reactor just because you put so much analysis and detail into your work. Too many reactors feel like I'm just watching the original video with a friend who likes to mutter a lot. I love it when you pause and go into depth about something.
I just love her and how she gets so excited and is not afraid to show it
I feel like she's basically the Disney Princess of music with how passionate and expressive she is. Really love this Chanel
Was he a basso profundo
yes
If you do another one I’d recommend “high and dry” to hear more of his higher range
Personally, I prefer Blackbird, but I see where you're coming from.
@@matthewrayner571 Blackbird was awesome! I have not seen High And Dry (yet). Thank you both. :)
Or country roads
Absolutely! High and Dry is one of my favorite covers he does. I like to sing along too. Not saying I am anywhere near as good, but I try.
@Michael Wayne Iirc the last note in Headless Horseman is an F#1.
Just a couple things
The whole lead vocal is sung in chest voice! He tends to start doing subharmonics at a G1 (in fact I think there’s only 2 songs where he’s sang subharmonics at a higher pitch)
It’s hard cuz us mere mortals cannot understand how it’s possible to sound like that at the bottom of his voice but that’s just the timbre of his natural voice.
Subharmonics sound a bit more electronic or robotic
13:11 this ones a G#1
His lowest chest note is indeed an F#1 which he sings twice in this at “step a *side* and that low slide at the end
Didn't geoff comment on his video that no subharmonics were used?
Yeah that’s what I said?
@@CapriUni, and he called that slide “super dramatic” or something like that. The captions on “Oogie Boogie’s Song” call the last note “subterranean”!
Yes!!! Some of Geoff‘s solo work! This is what we need on this channel! And judging by the thumbnail, you‘ll like it😄
Oh, Yes. I love Geoff's voice.
I am in awe of Geoff
Castellucci.
Geoff does use some instruments in most of his covers, he doesn't advertise them as a capella because there not but his voice is still very front and center, never fails to disappoint.
"never fails to disappoint."
Uh...
LMAO.
I think you meant that he never fails to impress or he never disappoints. The way you said that makes it sound like he always disappoints you lol
I mean, that's amazing. And good for them and the bar! I would have loved to see that performance!
I would have been over the moon from such a surprise!! 😀 I'd gush about it forever! Love it!
One from the boss of Geoff's mine. Others from men that stepped aside in time and didn't get killed.
im sure she has said no to many many men.
I still remember my first time finding Geoff and it was exactly this song.
I think everyone's first reaction is "What in the utter fuck is that???"
Geoff is awesome and every time hearing him sing it is sooo special :D
Her reactions to his voice is as great as Geoff’s voice is. Love this. He is literally my fave
I can remember my Dad singing part of this song in the kitchen, while he made us breakfast/lunch/dinner. When he wasn't at work being a Navy pilot/ supply officer. His Dad was a coal miner.
Geoff also did an incredible version of the Beatles song Blackbird not to mention a whimsical version of the Headless Horseman, both great songs
His “Headless Horseman” almost perfectly duplicates Thurl Ravenscroft’s version. There’s even a video on TH-cam with both of them, one on each side.
As a kid, I got to meet Tennessee Ernie Ford and spend some time with him. Great guy
I’m pretty sure I saw him say in the comments that he didn’t use subharmonics for this song.
Exactly
I believe it, it doesn’t sound like his subharmonics at all.
Yes! Thank you! His solo work is absolutely incredible!
Geoff's solo work is great, I think my favorite is his version of Blackbird.
Blackbird is my absolute favorite
Yep, for me Blackbird is also his best solo song... and maybe even better than this one to start reacting to his solo work... but well, hope it's the second soon :)
One of my favorite singers doing a cover of one of my favorite songs all while being analyzed by my favorite TH-camr 🔥
Eargasm much? :p
thats step one.
You have the best facial expressions!🤣
Avi and Tim abuse speakers.
Geoff abuses physics.
Rotflmfao that's awesome! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
One of the only songs written for a deeper voice. Thank you for helping me understand my voice.
This is so addictive and unique! I heard that his wife was the one behind the camera for this one, which probably contributed to his "something extra." This is huge because his songs are almost always amazing! I just think another big reason people love him is his solid family values and reliability, which is so rare!
Omg Geoff in the new Voice Play My Mother Told Me.... It’s right up your alley for sure
Keep your giggling going!!
i love how expressive she is it's too cute and she really captures how i felt when i first heard him
That’s why I love watching these reacts! This cover made me so girly I was glad I was alone 😂
I don’t think you can control it!
His latest - misty mountains cold - floored me. My daughter thought it was not his actual voice.
I love your excitement when listening to other singers.
You’re absolutely going to love this version! Can’t wait till tomorrow.
I do DJ gigs and played this at an event and people just freaked out. Love this guy and his videos are excellent.
Both Geoff and Elizabeth have fantastic hair!
Thank you so much for the reaction! Loved your giddiness and the shocked faces you made. There's only one Geoff Castelucci and he's out of this world.
the reason i love Geoff, the man is a consummate professional. and imminently talented. he spends practically all of his time working on increasing his range, and then creating amazing works that we get to be amazed by. and his channel is amazing, he genuinely loves his work and loves to talk about the details, how he does it and what he is doing, and how he trains.
Missed it. Elizabeth looked lika a tree full of owls reacting to Geoff singing and going down low 😁. He sure have some pipes and talent, bet he can swoon the birds off the tree also. She had some Geoffgasms. With the giggles. Carry on, lady 👍👍.
Sums Geoff up in one sentence: "It's so low, it's so difficult but he doesn't even show it off, it's so amazing."
I think that would be 3 sentences. Still true. :)
@@victorylane2377 Eh I think commas don't count as a new sentence
Geoff recently did Big Bad John. I listen to you often including with Home Free, but I got chills with Geoff's cover of Big Bad John.
I love Geoff's solo stuff. If you want to see him really show off his range, check out his cover of "Blackbird" by The Beatles. Also, his recent cover of "Take Me Home, Country Roads" is phenomenal.
Blackbird is awesome!
Blackbird was my favorite of his solo work before he put this one out. So phenomenal.
I love watching your reactions. Reminds me of watching a kid in a candy store for the first time...all the excitement and how animated you get. Its so refreshing to see. To me it seems to really influence your explanations and how you want to share that excitement and have the viewer experience it as well.
You are one awesome woman.
Elizabeth, you really need to review Geoff's version of the Beatles's Blackbird. This is a must to see (hear!) the full range and beauty of Geoff's voice! Thanks for the great content!
Your pure love of music, of all kinds, and how you react to it is amazing to watch. Jumping onto the piano and figuring out the key changes was so very cool to watch.
I love how clear the "Cuz I can't go" is at the end after he holds that low note. So deep and clear lyrics.
Geoff's voice is amazing...and such a delight to watch, too!
I loved how some of the notes/sequences seemed to break her brain...and bewilderment on her face. Adorable.
Having been down first a Voiceplay rabbit hole, and now a Charismatic Voice rabbit hole, I have to leave a comment.
I just love Geoff's voice. I could listen to him all day long. 💜 And I loooove sixteen tons. My dad used to play it on piano. 💜
Great reaction! Loved that you did so much research on the song. His version of Headless Horseman and Take Me Home Country Roads are superb!
This is all chest voice, which is INSANE, hes so good! Great reaction
Great pick, Elizabeth! Get ready for some goosebumps!
SO glad to see you react to this one! You absolutely must listen to Blackbird by him as well!
Agreed 👍🍻
Yeah, his version of Blackbird is simply perfection! Goosebumps the whole time!
Do Blackbird to see him REALLY show off his high range, while also going really low a couple of times.
I have heard Blackbird from Alter Bridge, but it would be fun to see Geoff perform it. Possibly when I drop the interview video!
If you haven't watched it yet, you should react to Geoff's cover of "Blackbird", its hauntingly beautiful!
The world isn't strong enough for four Geoffs in tank tops, change my freaking mind
I have felt songs in my heart and my soul. But when this man sings, I physically feel it!
Love you always Elisabeth! While the main thing is always Geoff's bass performance, I really appreciate his creativity and willingness to tackle so many different projects! The way the camera "shakes" when he hits the downbeat is classic!
There are very few vocalists that can do what Geoff does with his voice. That's what makes him so great to listen to
I was introduced to you with your reaction to Disturbed and The Sound Of Silence. Watching you evaluate this was on a completely different level. I swear that I watched you fall in love with him with that first deep tone. You were just so giddy throughout the video with each note lower than the last, it made it very fun to watch.
I love that your reaction to the deepest tones mirrored my own jaw drop!! This guy!!
He just has phenomenal vocal range and his voice is amazingly smooth.
Ladies, we are all in love with this guy 💛
I'm not even a lady, and I'm in love with this guy.
Yes! Geoff is out of this world
Watching Elizabeth's mind blow and flip is why I love this.
Man I get endless shivers feeling those bass notes through my studio monitors. Hard to believe a human can do that, but its so cool!
She did say it was written by Merle Travis and made famous by Tennessee Ernie Ford.
would love to hear Elvis's version.
@@jedinxf7, according to Wikipedia, Elvis sang it live in his early ‘50s concerts, but never recorded it. Bummer.
That G1 may be my favorite note from him ever. It’s powerful and full in spite of it being so low.
I thought it was an F#1. Either way. Ridiculous.
This is the ultimate bass song I think-- since I received my baritone voice at 11 whenever I've woken up with allergies I've always sung this song just because it's fun to be able to sing, to feel it rattling your body and all the furniture around you...
Totally amazing, thank you for introducing me to Geoff!
